Yeah I definitely like the idea of having layers. We will have to think about it and decide how it's gonna work here. For now I think it would make sense to start with a functionality to report things and people and with building up an admin interface for that.
I hear you say "we" pretty often, and I remember you mentioning that this site has a team working on it. What is their role? Will we ever see them join as users? Will you pick your moderators from them?

So sort of like toward the end of a videogame when your character has amassed so much power, wealth, and resources that you can pretty much handle anything the game throws at you?

Thanks! As I replied just a few mins before, considering where I am from it's rather hard to get me upset or surprised haha

Yeah, I've also seen some posts by eth and I don't know what would happen without him :)
Yeah he was kinda your St. Paul here, at the beginning.

Is it true almost everyone in Russia has a dashcam?

Think they're just being stubborn? Like there's always those people who know the hurricane is coming but refuse to evacuate their homes. "I'm here! I've always been here! I ain't moving!"

airmax may be a bit tired of positions of responsibility. It'd be cool to have him as moderator but if he didn't want to I would understand. Just his presence on the site would lend some officiality to it, whether he's a mod or a regular member.

Man I hear that. That spam apocalypse was so friggin' preventable. Would've taken just a little bit of Juggle's time.

I don't really get why those members are staying, but I expect if DDO becomes inactive enough they'll try this site eventually.

Awww yeah. We are survival fan synergizing right here man. And his own channel is actually news to me.

When he started doing the Bigfoot thing I was actually like, "Seriously?" I really thought it would hurt his credibility, and also I wanted him to make new survival episodes, not Bigfoot episodes. But then I just chilled out and watched them. They were fun, if nothing else. I think that Bigfoot hunter he had as his guide seriously faked some evidence. The most recent thing I saw from Stroud was when he started doing his show with his son, who apparently beat cancer recently.

Ha, the infamous Bear Grylls. I like him, I just think he's a stuntman, not a real survival expert, so he shouldn't pass himself off as a real survival expert. The advice he gave on Man vs Wild was often more likely to endanger people than protect them in a survival situation. He would just run from one reckless danger to the next, saying "here's what you do". Then that whole thing came out about him actually sleeping at a hotel instead of roughing it through the night in the bush (like Les Stroud does). It should have been pretty obvious to everyone that the show was contrived, but there are always some people who don't pick up on it and take it seriously.

I've never watched Alone, what's it like?

And dude get out of my head. I totally tried Naked and Afraid because I ran out of survival shows to watch. And I'm not gonna lie, it was absorbing. It was the one with the "bugs in my vajayjay" woman.

As for Dual Survival, I haven't watched it in a few years, but when I left I really felt like it had lost respectability. They just kept cranking up the melodrama. I liked the original pairing, but then they started switching people out like crazy. Cody Lundin seemed interesting and legit, which kept me watching, but they fired him and then released sensitive footage of him having tantrums on set.

When I try to watch old Mel Gibson movies it reminds me of what he's become and I get kinda bummed out. I'll keep an eye out for 'em though, if you think they're good. And I must admit I really liked Hacksaw Ridge, which was Gibson's I think.

You're not the only person I've heard say "so they're just on this truck through the whole movie?" Yeah, it was different. I think that was the plot -- a marathon race to escape, beset upon by every warlord army in the land, keeping the truck going at all costs. A bare knuckle ride that lasted the length of the movie.

Ha, no way. I didn't expect anyone here would ever have heard of him. Nice. I've always considered him the best survival authority available on television. He's interested in filming the reality of survival, not in creating cheap sensationalism.

Their training would have to involve more than just learning to shoot, I would think. Someone who has never been in a life or death situation has no idea how they will react in one. Animal fear could take over, they could lose their self-control. They could start shooting with panic fire. Soldiers and police are trained and trained and trained to deal with nerves like that, teachers aren't. They're just civilians. And at the firing range you're just learning how to hone your marksmanship in a safe and calm environment.

Local gun range idea's not bad, as long as the discount is considerable. Given teachers' salary, I don't think they'll be very enthusiastic about having to pay for it themselves.

I know Goldtop and Ludofl3x signed up there. I can send them PMs. A public invitation would probably get me accused of poaching. Even if I said, "I'm totally not trying to poach, I'm just trying to tell some friends where the rest of their friends are!"

It's not a bad site btw. http://www.sciforums.com/  But not very many DDO members are there, so it's just not the same. It's not "us".

Well, I am not sure if it would be used frequently and it would mess up the design of the upper part of the topic since pagination takes lots of space. I am thinking about adding a small "Go to bottom" button that would automatically scroll the page down to its end and one could use the pagination from there. I believe that would just as useable.

Why can't you put pagination at both the top and bottom of the thread? Wouldn't it just look like this? https://ibb.co/gcJMo9

Is anyone else having a problem where the buttons on the post creator stop working? Like sometimes I'll hit the quote or italicize button and nothing happens, the icons just sort of gray out. It's sporadic. I'm not sure what conditions cause it. Navigating away from the page and then back again seems to fix it temporarily.

The part of me that was made to feel powerless in school enjoyed that clip far too much. I mean, since I knew it was just a movie. If it had been real footage I'm pretty sure I would have thrown up.

What the hell were those soldiers in the courtyard doing, anyway? They just took a knee on the grass right out in the open and started firing up at the roof, taking no cover whatsoever. Some of them laid flat on their bellies. That's only helpful if you and the shooter are at the same elevation. If the shooter's standing a hundred feet above you at a 45 degree angle it's friggin' useless to lay down in the open.

Who's The Creator of This Site?

@DebateArt.com
Okay folk, I am gonna try to kill all the suspicions and tell you the whole story.

So initially, this site was not meant to be in English and have anything to do with DDO.

It happened ~ 3 years ago when I stumbled upon DDO and I liked the idea which is what I was looking for back then in order to practice my programming skills since I hate to practice on abstract things or the usual exercises. So I decided to kill two birds with one rock. I decided to try and implement this site with the new programming language and at the same time, move this experience of DDO to my country's domain and therefore the design resemblance, because it didn't make sense to bother too much trying to come up with an alternative to what already works perfectly. So I did create that website and it turned out to be crap because it was a mess both from the design point of view and code quality.  So I closed it.

Then, believe me or not, I changed the programming language again and decided what the heck, I am just gonna do the same but properly this time. And I did it and it's still up and running -> https://smartdebate.ru, do you see the resemblance? Lol

Truth be told, it had no success whatsoever, the debating is not a common thing here and even though I contacted probably all the debating clubs and forums I could find, it was to no avail.

Then I wanted to close it as well because God knows I tried but I noticed that DDO was overwhelmed with some Indian spammers and nothing was done about it and I actually liked DDO a lot, I didn't really participate in the community but I enjoyed reading the debates and it helped me to adjust some of my views on the world, believe me or not. So I decided to just translate the website to English and see what happens because I checked the alternatives and didn't like them too much, if to be honest. So here we are.

Regarding the spam, I have no clue whatsoever who is responsible for it but I freaking despise it. And to be as open as I can get, I am just sick of people saying that it was me. Somebody actually left a feedback on the website asking not to spam DebateIsland.com. Seriously? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I feel ya, man. Don't let the haters get you down. The competition between websites is making people nasty and paranoid.

I'd never even heard of this site until ethan discovered it and gave us the link. You made a few posts about it before that, but I would never have seen them, and my guess is you probably wouldn't have made many more. The ball only seemed to really get rolling after eth started spreading the word.

Will you go back to DDO?
I'm hearing that millions of spam threads have been deleted on DDO, and I can see the forums showing signs of life. Will you be going back with any regularity?

I think I'll mostly remain here. I still have no reason to think DDO will be properly moderated from now on, or that the next wave of spambots will be dealt with in a timely fashion. Some of the spambots are still posting, so they haven't plugged all the leaks. Still only silence from Juggle. I've been wooed by the promise of improved features on other websites, and I don't want to go back to DDO's rather limited UI. And I just peeked into the religion forum on DDO and was reminded of how toxic the atmosphere of a completely unregulated forum can be. Also, I'll never have the creator's ear on DDO like we have justmichael's ear on this site. Here you can make requests and get feedback. Huge personalization value.

May I suggest that a quote feature that allows you to quote things the post I'm replying to itself quoted? Like in this post it's not obvious that you didn't ask for the larger profile picture so that you could show off your boobs.
Yeah, he said he hasn't gotten around to the quote feature yet, but he will.

I would never participate in a reality show about survival. Too much risk of contrived drama and events manipulated for trashy sensationalism. My goals and the producers' goals would be at odds. My goal would be a stable, safe environment where everyone is calm and as well taken care of as they can be while we wait for rescue. The producers' goal would be an unstable, melodramatic environment where people are at each other's throats, entertainment value is prioritized over stability, and the audience can't tear their eyes away.

Naked and Afraid is more like Naked and Miserable. I watched it a few times but I just couldn't get past the absurdity of the nakedness thing. One layer of clothing is the bare minimum you can expect to have on you in a plausible survival situation. It's just TV clickbait, obviously. My favorite survival shows would be Survivorman and Hacking the Wild. Hacking the Wild was pretty cool. The host goes into the wilderness with modern tech, like a laptop and a phone (with dead batteries, of course), and takes them apart to see what survival tools he can make out of them. One minute video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0T_ylKPFAw Also, he's a vegetarian but surprisingly he's stuck to his guns so far and won't eat any meat in the wild, even when the pickings are slim. One time he refused to even eat a sea cucumber. Although he did eat a... byproduct of the sea cucumber.

Could be that images made out of keystrokes and special characters can be copied because they still count as text. But a picture is not text, and the text window won't recognize it. There are a lot of forum sites that let you paste images though. It can be done.

Should trained school officials, teachers and the like be allowed to pack heat in the buildings vicinity in case of emergencies? are you comfortable with the idea of your children going through weapon detectors at school? we've had a few evacuations in my local area, both false alarms but still unnerving. A couple of death threats in the high school as well. What are good options in your opinion to protect students?

Who is going to pay for the training these teachers will need?
