All right dudes and dudettes. Pick a profile image you think would be fitting for a friend or member you know. Can be joking or semi-serious, but don't be hatin'.
Goal: Fun, snorts, unintentional farting, laughter, occasional comments like "actually that one's spot on" and "oh that's so him/her!"

Are you saying every school that isn't part of the two groups in the experiment would be the control group?

@DebateArt.com
Yeah :) Well, if I change it now, people will not know that they need to contact "Mike" with questions or suggestions. First we need to add at least some "admin" and "moderator" icons or some other kind of indicators.
For now you could just change your username to Mike (Admin) or something like that. Or just use a profile picture that has an admin badge.
So are the usernames of banned members always in red?

I've recently decided to keep calling this place DART. I don't care what the site icon says.
How active have you been in the month you've been back?

triangle.128k and I were discussing this in the incorrect grammar and spelling thread, and I didn't want to derail it.
Conversation history:
triangle.128k: Add fascism as a political ideologyCastin: You probably understand why an admin might not be too eager to do that.triangle.128k: Why not? Communism is added as a political ideology.Castin: That's true. But I think even communism doesn't have as many bad associations as fascism. My guess would be that D doesn't want it to look like he's supporting fascism (or National Socialism, as you also requested) by offering them as legitimate options on his site. I could be dumbass wrong, though.triangle.128k: How are you suppoorting any specific ideology to include it? Your feelings toward an ideology don't matter, it's still legitimate and deserves a place in an ideology drop-down. Is DebateArt supporting Communism to include it in an ideological drop down? That same logic would apply. Fascism may have bad associations, but this is a debate website.Castin: I think it's that if you include fascism or Nazism in the dropdown menu, you're saying, "These are all valid choices. Pick." It is indeed a debate site. I don't know, maybe you can talk to D and get him to think about it. It's his call.triangle.128k: Maybe not Nazism, but if you're going to include the ideology of Pol "Crush Baby skulls for Fertilizer" Pot, why is Fascism so big and scary to add?
@trian:
I get where you're coming from. And by raw kill count, communism beats fascism. But this is how I see it:
- Communism is a much larger and more varied overarching ideology with many more branches and forms, all of varying degrees of merit, some of which even have opposing ideas.
- While communist regimes have often become monstrous, communism as an ideology originally focused on the values of equality, liberation for the working class, and sharing without discrimination. Fascism focused on the values of totalitarian power and fanatic nationalism.
- There are over 1 billion communists in the world today. How many fascists are there? Policy decisions are based on how many people can be a pain in the ass for you right now.
Again, just how I see it. I have no idea what Michael's reasons are. Maybe you could ask him to replace the dropdown list with a blank input field we can type anything into. Although that would probably lead to a lot of users with ideologies like "bewbs" and "420".

I don't know where you are from, but one of the more recent school shootings in Maryland was relinquished rather quickly by someone armed. I believe it was an officer but the point is that having protection could prevent further damage by a long shot. I think though having access to fire arms both outside and inside would be better. It just so happened the shooter was outside and there was an officer but had the shooter been inside the school there could have been serious consequences.
I am from the rural United States.
I prefer the idea of hiring more guards or veterans, as Budda mentioned. Let teachers be teachers.

I think that may be a mistake on "debates" part. The godists who complained about him are the usual trolling for god mob who call anyone who disagrees with them a troll. Rookie mistake, but "debates" you gotta stop listening to the posters who are pissing in your pocket, their agenda is not benign.
I think banning him was a no-brainer. If everyone who had reservations about his behavior was a "godist" then I guess I'm a "godist". Though that's kind of confusing for me, being an atheist.
Something I saw in the religion forum on DDO: theists loved trolls who hated atheists, and atheists loved trolls who hated theists. An overgeneralization, obviously. But it was a reminder that when we sink too far into Us vs Them thinking, all we care about is whose side the monster is on -- not the fact that it's a monster.
Again an overgeneralizing metaphor -- RM if you're reading this, you're a human being not a monster and I hope one day you will find your troll paradise in the sky. *turns up the volume on Carry On My Wayward Son*

Cite some hostile posting or have you turned all marshmallow to fit in with this lot?
I'm confused about where this came from, V. I was just saying 1hard's post made sense to me. I know airmax's buddies want him back in power by default, and really I'd have no problem with that at all, but I never really personally knew him like they did. He was a distant landmark to me.

They made mistakes. First, they should know that the mole is is member. Hari even bragged about his Indians he had called off for the sites brief respite. I don't think he controls them, but he is their way in. They should have deleted the hari account. (And his sockpuppets)Second, people who stayed logged in all the time, did not need to do the captcha. They had permanent access. Till today I could access the site without having to do any captcha. They need a web admin. Either bite the bullet and get it done, or give up on the domain for now. Bots lose interest after some time. But closing all accounts means they finally are serious about fixing the spam problem.
Do you really think Hari had something to do with it? Or does that just jump to your mind because he's a racist troll we don't like who happens to be from India?

I had a link to DA in my signature. My DDO account remains closed. Jhhillman's signature also refers to DA but it looks like that account is still active, at least as of 2 hours ago.

It is possible just not too obvious I imagine, you can just click on the timestamp in the last post column, the one that says "5 minutes ago" or something like that.
It's probably not immediately clear to newcomers that the time stamp is a link. Putting the link under the time stamp and calling it "View Recent" or "View Last Post" might be better.

Ha! you watched the Bigfoot series already? you're one step ahead of me I haven't seen those yet! except you have to watch some of the other survival shows you missed like Alone and Live Free or Die. Sounds like you're a no-nonsense type of girl, then I would think you would like those two.Bear Grylls not a real survival expert? have you seen the show where he takes celebrities out to survive, big difference between him and them, I'm sure he could survive alone for a time longer than the average person even if his shows are not 100% survival based.
Oh -- and what I said about "real survival expert". Bear Grylls had survival training in the military and he's not an idiot. But when he's on camera, he's not a survival expert, he's an entertainer who is first and foremost responsible for holding the audience's attention. His shows are about glamor, thrills, and keeping the audience hooked. That's why he does dangerous stunts and eats things that would make you vomit. And there's really nothing wrong with all of that, if you know the show is contrived. Not everyone did, though. And of course there's a big difference between his skill level and the celebrities'. They have no experience with bushcraft. Actor vs outdoorsman.

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
I just think some "survival" shows should be a bit more honest. Survival is about people's lives. And I'm not talking about Survivor or any other melodramatic contestant show -- I'm talking about a survival show where there is a supposed expert who is trying to teach you something and speak with authority.
If a real person tried to follow Bear's advice in a survival situation, or worse, imitate Bear's behavior, he'd be putting his life at risk. Bear does things like jump off waterfalls when he could easily walk around. He picks up giant soggy balls of elephant dung and squeezes the moisture into this mouth. Because there can't be anything bad for your health in wild animal poop, right?
Anyway, I'll try to check out those shows you mentioned. If you decide to watch the Bigfoot eps, let me know what you think. I have indeed seen several of Bear's celebrity wilderness episodes. They were pretty good. He got some big names to come on.

Some small changes:1) Removed the "Show recent" link and added pagination to the topics top right corner, it should be a bit more flexible this way.2) Now it's possible to click on timestamps in the "last post" columns and it would take you straight to the last page from the categories or topics list.

Here's an article about it I remembered: https://www.livescience.com/24875-meat-human-brain.html (I did read your articles as well.)
For the most part, larger bodies have larger brains across species. Yet humans have exceptionally large, neuron-rich brains for our body size, while gorillas — three times more massive than humans — have smaller brains and three times fewer neurons. Why?The answer, it seems, is the gorillas' raw, vegan diet (devoid of animal protein), which requires hours upon hours of eating only plants to provide enough calories to support their mass. For gorillas to evolve a humanlike brain, they would need an additional 733 calories a day, which would require another two hours of feeding, the authors wrote. A gorilla already spends as much as 80 percent of the tropic's 12 hours of daylight eating.Similarly, early humans eating only raw vegetation would have needed to munch for more than nine hours a day to consume enough calories, the researchers calculated. Thus, a raw, vegan diet would have been unlikely given the danger and other difficulties of gathering so much food.Cooking makes more foods edible year-round and releases more nutrients and calories from both vegetables and meat, Herculano-Houzel said."The bottom line is, it is certainly possible to survive on an exclusively raw diet in our modern day, but it was most likely impossible to survive on an exclusively raw diet when our species appeared," Herculano-Houzel told LiveScience.
That last paragraph sums it up pretty well imo. We don't *need* meat now, but we once did. As for your other mentions:
- Getting it confused with fruit -- The tests that determined fruit led to brain growth were only ever conducted on monkeys, I thought. All they proved is that fruit helps monkey brains grow.
- Why are carnivores designed for meat and we are not -- Well, we're not exclusively carnivores, so we don't need specialized carnivore organs, perhaps. We also don't have multiple stomachs, or a rumen, because we're not exclusively herbivores either. Our digestive tracts are longer than a carnivore's but shorter than an herbivore's.
- If we need meat protein so bad why do so many people not eat meat -- Because they don't strictly have to in this day and age. Availability of resources and knowledge means your average vegan can easily substitute the missing nutrients in their diet.
- If meat gives energy why does everyone get tired after they eat it -- I wasn't aware everyone did. People get tired after big meals though. Nap or no nap, that meat is still going to turn into energy for you later.
- Big cats, carnivores, and sleep: I thought big cats slept so much because most of them are nocturnal hunters?
