@Castin
If you're reading the Hebrew Bible from a Christian perspective, you'll get an entirely different interpretation than you would from a Jewish perspective. Jews believe in an Oral Torah as well as a written Torah. The Oral Torah helps explain the meaning of the mitzvot and how they are done.
Example: An eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.
One may erroneously assume that if I poke out someone's eye then my eye would be poked out also. However, the Oral Torah explains that this is a fine and not to be taken hyper literal.
Another example regards the death penalty. In actuality, the death penalty is extremely difficult to carry out. The Talmud notes that a beit din (court) that puts someone to death once in every 70 years is considered to be a bloodthirsty court.

an RFD is reason for deciding who you voted for. Instead of just voting for the side you agree with, DDO standards require an explanation as to why you voted for that person

St. Thomas Aquinas answers this nicely:
We see that things which lack knowledge, such as natural bodies, act for an end, and this is evident from their acting always, or nearly always, in the same way, so as to obtain the best result. Hence it is plain that they achieve their end, not fortuitously, but designedly. Now whatever lacks knowledge cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being endowed with knowledge and intelligence; as the arrow is directed by the archer. Therefore some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end; and this being we call God (Aquinas, Summa Theologica, Article 3, Question 2).
This is evident in everything from the laws of physics to biology. Thus "un-designed" would look like bodies and natural entities that act with no end or no goal.

This should say "Signed up on August 08, 2018."
Signed up from doesn't really make sense.

Hi Smithereens!
What was your DDO name
ThinkBig
What do you think of the US-Israel relationship?
This is a complex question that is hard to answer in a few paragraphs. In short, I think US-Israel relationships are good. However, I think US needs to recognize Palestine, should not have recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, should move the embassy back to Tel Aviv, and should stop giving them billions of dollars in aid.
What should Western nations do about the Syrian regime?
Leave it alone.
Where do you source your news?
I read a variety of news sources on the web and read a healthy amount of various opinions. I read both conservative and liberal leaning news outlets and try to get a healthy balance of opinions.

The sites that I'm used to, a red username is typically reserved for site administrators and staff. I might sugges tpossibly using red for site admins and green or blue for site moderators. As it stands now, one may think RationalMadman is a staffer because of his red name.
For banned users, I would consider making their names a lighter color grey, italicized, and crossed out.

Suggestion: I think it would be good to put a list of all the user's debates on their profile like there is on DDO.

Perhaps you could find some way to show that a post was edited? Editing posts during a mafia game is a serious breach of game integrity.

Editing posts should never be allowed. If a player is caught editing posts, they should be modkilled immediately.

Just a question: If someone is banned while they are in the middle of a debate, should it be possible for the debate to be reset or auto resigned?
I think having a "resign debate" feature would also be nice. That way they don't have to wait several days for the next few rounds to be forfeited.

Not sure if there's a way to tell if someone's banned or not. That's why I suggested a public moderation log or something that says "USER is banned"

This site has an owner who seems ready to be the head mod. We do not need Airmax.Airmax was as biased as they came. It wasn't the spam that killed DDO, it was the trolls. Airmax was alerted to their horrendous abuse and he decided to do absolutely nothing about it.Not only that, but was generally snippy with people who were concerned about it. For years he stood by as the site died from neglect and trolls, and spent his time with his crew making movies about how terrible the religion board was.If Mike wasn't the same future as DDO, he can bring Max here. As soon as he is here as mod, trolls like dee, willows, bully, and hari, will know they will not be limited at all and they will infect the site.Already bully is here paving the place with his stupidity. You can have that. This site has done fine without Airmax. Let him stay at the site he made. We're fine.
I completely and totally agree with this. Just look at all the reviews debate.org has!

With several debates in the debating period, I think it is a good idea to start discussing voting standards. @DebateArt.com, what will voting actually look like? I see we have an option for open voting or judiciary voting.
I like the standards that are on DDO, but at the same time I don't think you need to write a 5 paragraph essay on why a player won a debate.

@Lunatic
Just curious, how are you going to select mods? Will you host an election of sorts for the community to vote, or choose someone you know and trust?
I strongly advise against moderator elections. The problem with mod elections is that it just becomes a popularity contest. The most popular people on the site are not necessarily gonna be the best moderators. (Yet on the flip side, someone who is not well-liked or well-respected won't be a good moderator either).

I've been a moderator on several forums before. Here's my suggestions;
1) Create a public moderation log
-This log informs the public as to why a specific person was banned. As an example of what this might look like, see this: https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/threads/137-Public-Moderation-Log.I believe this is important to be transparent with their process. Furthermore if someone is debating someone or is in a game with someone that is banned, it would be helpful to know that they were banned.
Note: While I am staff on MU, I AM NOT A MODERATOR on that site (just for emphasis).
2) Create several tiers of moderators
Global Moderators/Head Moderators:
These oversee the moderation team as well as have reign and say over the entire site and create and modify site rules as needed.
Debate Moderators
These moderators will oversee the the debate section on DA. They remove votes that do not conform to our standards (which needs to be created), delete debates that violate TOS, and can ban users from voting on debates.
Forum Moderators
These oversee the forum section of the site. They should have the ability to ban users from posting to forums, ban users from editing, lock threads, pin threads, and edit posts/threads as needed.
Site Chat Moderators
Site chat moderators will oversee the live chat section. They should have the ability to kick people out of the site chat and ban people who are being abusive, trolling, etc.

Airmax has been banned?! My account is still open, but with mass bans taking place I think it's time to pull the plug on DDO.
The good thing about this site is that because it's new and pretty much still contentless, we can help mold this site into anything we want.
Civid looks like an interesting choice, but Debatearg seems to be more DDOish, which I think is what most people want.

Mafia Replacement Requests
This thread is for moderators to announce requests their need for a replacement of a player in a game that they are moderating, and for interested players to find games in which to replace into. The only people who should be posting in this thread are game hosts who need a substitution. Players should not be posting in this thread.
Thank you for hosting on debateart.com!

hello! I am virtuoso, aka ThinkBig. I am looking forward to participating on this site. It looks really clean and asthetically pleasing.
The only feedback/suggestion I have is to narrow down the forum categories until there are more members and more content. Having a half empty forum doesn’t really look that good. Do we really need a category for fashion, cars, and people etc?
