Can you guys/gals add a feature that replicates DDO's look
Nope, we are trying to do exactly the opposite actually. Intellectual property and stuff.

I like the way the debate section was set out. It might be nostalgia but even now I can't shake my positivity towards the way DDO's debate section looks. It is not ecompassing the whole screen and it centred in middle and on the side is other sections of the website. Basically my problem is that it is a bit too wide for me. I liked the gaps on the side so that words were centred in the middle.
It used to be like that but it was ugly because the height of the debates are usually much bigger than the height of the sidebar and you end up with lots of empty space on the left.

I don't also like how big the debate details is. I think you guys/gals can make it shorter.
If you mean the debate description, then again, it will probably be even bigger at some point once I make it possible to use the rich editing there. I am not sure I see a problem there.

I like words more than colours and icons and was hoping you add more words in the debate section. One example is the yellow star. Can you add the text "Add it to favourites"?
It was also like this but then we moved away from it, I believe there wasn't enough space for all the buttons and their texts.

Can't you call yourself DA instead of DART? Nit picky but had it on my mind.
Everyone calls it differently, I don't think there's one selected version for it.

Why did you guys pick Blue and orange? Was blue and red taken? Can you add like a customisation feature so that I can choose what colours I like to most to colour the site?
Not anytime soon, there are so many other things need to be implemented before we get to things like color customization.

@TheRealNihilist
Then what is your incentive in making this site? If I was you I would have ads. Non-intrusive so that you can fund the site with the site instead of externally. I am guessing donating doesn't work out.
Personal interest. Not only I like the idea, I get to play with coding a lot, trying different practices and whatnot.

Ads are useless, we live in the era of AdBlock.

Why did he make the site if he doesn't even bother to care about it? Ads?
Yeah, that's why I spend every evening working on it without making any penny outta it - because I don't even bother to care about it.

Try this please -> https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/how-to-clear-browser-cache/ But be careful, you need to delete only images and files, don't delete cookies or anything else of importance.

Have you cleared the assets cache or at least tried to force reload page? I believe it's CTRL + R or CMD+SHIFT+R or something among those lines.

@Outplayz
Well, clearing your assets cache will not really effect anything, except that the browser will need to load all the styles and images again, which is a problem only if you have a bad internet connection. You are probably confusing it with clearing your cookies, which is something that could log you out of many sites, if you delete them all. But anyway, if it actually works now, then I guess you don't need to do anything anymore :)

Because apparently I messed up the cache when released a new update yesterday. I am still not sure what happened since I didn't have time to do a proper research but seems like clearing the cache solves the issue.

Maybe it was this one -> https://www.cloudflarestatus.com/incidents/1k9s7mswbzzs, because we also use CloudFlare in front of the website's server and depend on it working correctly.

I pushed the update yesterday and it may have affected your browser's cache as well, so please clear and it may help somehow. But the update itself was minor and it had no breaking changes so I am still figuring out what went wrong ...

@Vader
I've been rewriting most of the modules of the website to make them much easier to extend. But apart from that, I've also added some minor changes, which will be deployed alongside the new rewritten version, some of them are:

1) Much more advanced permissions system for the admins to control the access to the website's features.
2) Full screen messaging window, it won't have the office sidebar on the left anymore.
3) Much better error messages, like if you try to access a wrong URL and whatnot.

Also I will probably try to add the system that would allow the mods to delete votes for the finished debates and some other minor details.

But after this rewritten version is deployed, we'll have new features every one or two weeks, as before.

Hi, I am rewriting the most parts of the website at the moment because they are quite messy and it would be hard to go on without creating even bigger mess. After that's done, I will implement bunch of new things, including the votes leaderboard :)

If someone wanted your IP address, it’s as easy as getting you to click a link - as every time you log into any website of any kind  it gives that site access to your address. To those who could use your IP address to so bad things, it takes about 5 minutes effort to do it.

In terms of data breaches - there’s no info of value on this site is your data of birth and your email address and your password.

I’m all for everyone being paranoid about Cyber Security, the fun you can have with Starbucks wifi and off the shelf network tools is amazing; but it’s important to have the right level of paranoia.

If bsh or virt - or anyone where had the ability and intent to use your IP address for nefarious reasons, not having access to it via a moderator panel is not a big hurdle.

Saying that, the value of seeing the IP address is not that great. It’s either going to show that two people are the same person - or it’s going to show that one person is traced to a TOR exit node/random VPN. Neither of which are improved by letting anyone see it.
That.

But anyway, my preference is to simply automate somehow the process of spotting the double accounts and let the mods know about it, without actually revealing the IPs themselves.

2 factor confirmation is more of a extra security for logging in. I think it's super helpful for the admins to require 2FA, but I dont think it'll solve the problem.
Good point, I also thought about, 2FA for the mods would be a great thing to have.

No offense to any of y'all, but I don't trust random internet people, even if they are moderators of some sort. Especially if the site isn't "verified". This means if a mod is hacked or info of the site is breached, (which could be common due to foreignness of bsh and Mike) all my info is out there for the world to see. And what if the mod is some sort of pedo trying to get into my account(not saying you would be). I just am not comfy with that idea, especially for teens on the site

I'd prefer email if it had to come down to that. A new email address could be made
Yeah, that's a very fair point.

I think a simpler solution would be to do what DDO does with cell phones and manual confirmations.
I am afraid that's just beyond expensive, the prices are insane.

I started working on the project again but I noticed that implementing even simple things become more and more complicated due to some shortcuts that were made during the previous development phase so first I am gonna fix those and then we'll get back to implementing new stuff. Also during the refactoring, I will add some minor features that were requested by some folk so there's also that. Hopefully refactoring will take 2-3 weeks. I know it sounds like a lot but trust me, it's better to spend some time now than suffer much more in a few months.

not an issue with a base issue with programming, but Mafia just seems to be forgotten when it should be promoted due to it's activity it brins
Well, I actually tried to create a separate section of the website devoted specifically to that but I realized it would involve too much effort so it's postponed for now, I am afraid.

Where have they been
Well, we'll see how it goes, I first need to organize the process properly, right now it's a mess.

@Vader
Development seems to have slowed
That's only temporary, just lots of things to deal with in the real life. I will get back to speed in 2-3 weeks.

Group PMs not added
Well, I've done 2 steps into that direction, I've rewritten the chat to make it much easier to extend and I've added real time functionality, the group chatting is the next on the list.

Mafia just gets pushed under the shelf
What do you mean?

Someone who is active in coding takes on a part time coder and developer
There's already a couple of guys helping me, I just need to organize the process properly and I will once I get back to speed.

Yes, you're interested or Yes, you want to keep the status quo?

If interested, get to work on that mission statement and think about what you want here for this site and what kind of folks you want to attract? For example, do you want to attract reasonable, logical and rationale people who will provide relatively intellectual debates?

No one can help you with this unless we know what you want.
Of course I am interested but I have no clue what you are talking about, it's too abstract for me. It's like those "How to get rich" books, they may have 500 pages but it's all either obvious or nonsense stuff.

If you have some specific ideas, please share them. I don't understand how those mission statements will help the situation.

@oromagi
I'm sure others have suggested this elsewhere but I strongly believe that the first forfeit in any debate should garner an automatic loss- no voting, no waiting.   This would really process through a lot of debates with lower interest levels, experiments, absences, etc and help focus the audience on debates where both sides are engaged.  Yes, that means a much smaller set of debates running but I think it would increase the number of debates & interest in them over time.
I believe we had some discussion on this and it wasn't that simple. I believe Tej brought up some good points on this. Let's ping him.

I like the idea of weekly themes or key words to encourage people to talk about the same things.  The more topical the better.

I like the idea of more frequent, low value recognition:  have a thread where people nominate best forum topic & response  of the week/ best debate/ best RFD, etc.  Last week's winner chooses this week's winner, etc.  Something like this can get little support in the beginning but even if it's lame in the beginning it incentivizes good writing, research, and calls attention to posts that inspire the next week.  I think something like DDO's Olympics was a good idea but the timeframes were killing interest.  I think you're better off doing quick cycles with a few participants that might potentially grow over iteration.
That sounds interesting, we might turn it into something.

More women.  Ask more women about how to attract more women.  Women are the majority of society- no social activity can be said to be really buzzing without a lot on interest & content from and for women.  A site like might always be dude-heavy but if we want something interesting here, we need to be always trying to improve the ration of women to men.
I am afraid it's not that easy to attract people here in general, the site needs many improvements first :/

If a category of forum or debate isn't getting a lot of love, axe it.  If a category is getting most of the attention, divide it.  Right now the cars forum has 5 topics and 42 posts.  Why not stick those threads under technology
Oh it's been on the TODO list for a century, I will definitely do that. Pain in the ass about it though is that I'd need to setup bunch of redirections to not kill SEO.

With all due respect, I think the non-commercial purpose stuff is something that you can't even believe it yourself.

Even if it were your hobby, you need some money to hold up this site. Have you ever thought about what you would do if this site gets more popular and you need to increase the bandwidth of the hosting service? As every site devoted to content, it's always possible to monetise it. But for that you need a bit of investment and time.

You've got to take it as a business anyways.
Well, I had hopes on donations but I am not sure anymore. Bandwidth, RAM and CPU are cheap these days and I use a programming language that is really efficient when it comes to this, so there won't be any problems on this side. But things like emails delivery, storage (for avatars and probably some other things) and the like will indeed require more investments, not that much but still. Not mentioning that sometimes I have to buy some damn icons :/

But I think that if at some point we actually have some good amount of people here, then we'll need to think about it more thoroughly, because the site would need much more moderation and maybe even some support system and things like that, which actually requires money ...

Anyway, I guess time will tell :)

@Goldtop
There is not much what can be done to control the kind of people that the website has. Unless I prevent people from signing up until they send me a copy of their PhD paper or something. This is internet.

I do know that people are leaving but I don't think it's because of the fact that we don't have some explicit goal or statement, I think it's simply because this website is a niche one and with very limited number of things to do here, at least at this point. If we had more things to keep people interested, I don't think this problem would still exist, it's simple as that.

I think DDO was super quiet for years and years before it finally built up the sizable user base it had when we all came across it. Considering that this site started off as a refuge for the very few who stubbornly remained while DDO went down the drain, its no surprise that things are still rather quiet.

Just give it time, handle any moderation issues that need to be handled, and more users will eventually come.
I guess we will see. I do have some ideas how to improve the situation but I need much more free time for it, which I am afraid I won't have in the next month :/
