Give me an exampleThere is plenty you can do if you're sincere about that, there are many tried and true methods and strategies, it all depends on what exactly you want from this site and where you want it to go.

What issues are you talking about?This is not a good solution and can be completely avoided if the issues on this site were fixed. All this will accomplish is more alienation and more people leaving the site. Anyone who may want to sign up here will see this as a broken site.

And guys, I am afraid there are quite a few issues in the real life that fell down on me and it may slow me down for some time, probably a month or so. I am moving to another country and there is a huge personal issue that also involves some travelling and organising.

@Alec
I could and I would probably merge it as another column for the debates leaderboard.

@keithprosser
It would be controlled partially automatically and partially by some mods or trusted users. At least that's how I see it at the moment.There is only the matter of controlling the membership of the 'professional' sub-group unaddressed.
In passing, I think that commenting on debates should be removed. Voting should be on the arguments presented - what purpose do the coments serve?
Comments are the means of communication in the scope of some specific debates, I am afraid, I don't understand why it would make sense to remove them.

@Death23
I think I expressed myself incorrectly, it's not even proving themselves but proving that they can take it seriously. If people truly try to do their best, if they don't forfeit the arguments and don't write obvious nonsense, don't show utter disrespect and etc, they deserve to be "professionals", even though they may lack the experience of debating per se but it shouldn't matter that much, the most important thing is showing due diligence to the process itself.I see the trouble with rap battles and silly debates, but I don't see any need for users to prove themselves. Why would the latter be desirable?
At least that's how I see it.
Created:
Posted in:
ThisThis will kinda separate the professional debates from the rap battles. That way the good debates don't get burried in with a bunch of troll debates
Created:
Posted in:
So I have this idea of implementing the concept of "professional" debates, in which case only chosen users become "professionals" and can participate in the "professional" debates against other "professional" users and only with "professional" voters and so on. Also I am thinking about canceling the ratings for the general debates and make it "professional" debates specific thing. This way general debates will be used for proving to have the skill and deserving to be "professional" or for general rap battles and silly debates and whatnot. It's a super raw idea but I wonder what you guys think about it?
I believe I brought something up like this before but this time I am thinking about putting my hands on it and actually start working on it.

I don't live in the US so I have different expenses than you, so my salary is okay-ish for this area ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Polytheist-Witch
Well, even 15 bucks is half of my daily salary and most likely it won't attract too many people considering the advertising budget itself and unfancyness (this word probably doesn't exist) of this site and our Facebook page. And spending more money on a hobby project that barely covers its expenses, I don't think I would go for something like that, I still need to eat once in a while. In your case it makes sense to advertise properly because you are making money from your sales, so your expenses are justified and give you better income after all.
Regarding the SEO, that's an issue indeed but to be honest, I barely understand what may be the issue except for 2 things, either it's because we're too young or because we don't have a mobile version and frankly, I am not sure how to go about it but I've done my best from the technical point of view, as far as Google is concerned.

There is a lot of things we could add to make the experience much better and we do have a facebook group. What kind of advertising do you mean? The paid ads from Facebook and Google and stuff like that?

So, as somebody mentioned in another topic, we don't have a lot of people here and apparently it gets boring.
Well, I guess that's about right, at least to some extent, and we gotta do something about it and I need your help because it's rather time consuming to do everything on my own.
Since we don't have many cool features here, at least yet, we should try to attract mostly folks that are interested in online debating.
There are a lot of Facebook groups that are dedicated to debating and some of them have up to 20k people, believe me or not, so we should try to get at least some of them here. I didn't have a lot of time for it yet but I contacted a few admins of those groups but they haven't replied yet. So if you are a member of such group or just would like to help, please, try to contact any of those people and let them know that we exist and maybe even show them some of the debates that we have here, because we do have some really good debates here after all and they may be interested.
Apart from Facebook, I believe there are Reddit debating sub forums with lots of people, so that's where we could also try to find people that would like it here. And the list doesn't end here, there are other forums, websites and stuff like that so if you are willing to help, that'd be highly appreciated by everyone here :)
In my turn, I will finish some refactoring and get to implementing something new that could also attract some new blood here, but I am not yet sure what exactly it would be.
Thank you!

@Castin
There is only one guy working on this site in his spare time.
Exactly and not only that, but the debating subject is something really specific and not a lot of people are into things like that.
For example, there is this website called Kialo, I believe this is a good try to monetize this field and I am not sure if they are doing that great, considering that they have spent like 5 years of development with a bunch of highly paid Germany based developers, designers, marketing people and etc. They probably have some income to keep going but I am not sure if it's really that great. Maybe I am wrong though, I don't know.

@Polytheist-Witch
Yeah me too. I have rewritten the damn thing from the ground up, took me almost 3 weeks :/
Now I just wonder how glitchy it is, hopefully not too much.

@Vaarka
Oh okay, the main difference is that now, hopefully, you don't need to update the page when somebody replies to you, the new messages should be appearing in the real time mode.
Created:
Posted in:

@RationalMadman
Wait wait, the replies must be real time, why do you think they aren't real time?
Created:
Posted in:

@Vaarka
I will add an option for it later. How's the general experience though? Did you have a chance to talk to somebody in the real time mode? Was everything okay?
Created:
Posted in:

@Alec
Yeah, quite a few people mentioned it before and it's not that hard to add it, we'll just need to do it in a different way than DDO has
Created:

Also I have completely rewritten the PM system using another library, which is much better than the previous one and soon we'll have it working in a real time mode and after that, we'll have our long awaited multi PMs.

@RationalMadman
I have fixed that problem with the invalid counter value, it was just a presentation problem so I first wanted to finish some other things and that's why it took me so long. Anyway, thanks again for the help!

There haven't been updates for quite a while and I just wanted to explain what I've been up to.
So I've replaced the assets building system, which is an annoying but required thing and it took me a few evenings just to do that and there is a chance it will introduce some bugs but hopefully we'll fix them quickly. Also I've learned a new technology for writing highly interactive UI, like the PM system that we have and I have almost finished rewriting it, since the previous tech is a disaster that I shouldn't have used in the first place. Once I am done ( probably this weekend ), the PM system will be real-time and it will much easier to extend it to allow conversations with more than 2 people in them. But it will take time to implement that because a lot of things need to be taken into consideration, it only looks easy :)
So I am still working on the project, it's just taking me quite a while because I needed to learn and implement quite a few things behind the scene. But once I am done with that, we'll get back to more frequent releases and bug fixes.

@Barney
I will add vote editing but it also comes with few gotchas so I'll need to make sure it works properly.
Regarding the second idea, I do like it quite a lot, that's probably what we'll discuss at some point and implement.
Created:

@Alec
That's another tricky thing since it could introduce lots of confusion, among other things. Most likely I will add it, but it would allow users to change usernames only once in 6 months or something and probably with some kind of notification for, at least, the friends.
Created:

@Alec
I will need to think about it because it may be tricky, but if it's possible, then I will surely add this functionality.
Created:
Posted in:

@RationalMadman
Wow, that indeed looks like a bug, I don't know how I didn't notice it. I believe I tested these things on the initial release, but I probably introduced the bug later and didn't realize it.
I will try to fix it as soon as possible, thank you very much! I really appreciate all the help! You are amazing, mate :)

I have found some issue with the counter and fixed it but I am not sure if that was the issue that you had. Let me know if it still happens to you.

Hi folk,
I just wanted to apologize for the absence of the new features, I've been working on the mafia section and it's taking a while, and that's apart from the fact that I still on my Christmas\New Year holidays and I barely spend any time at home. I will return to my usual working schedule in a few days and the progress will be much faster.
Just didn't want you to think that the website has been abandoned.

That sounds like a bug. I am not sure I understand how to reproduce it, could you please explain in more detail?

Yeah, I imagine some kind of archive could solve the problem, I guess. But it's also controversial, if the archive would be public... Eh, I don't know...

Also guys, sorry for the long replies and being off, I went to a ski resort and didn't have my laptop with me and I just hate to use smartphones for typing, especially on a website without a mobile version. Also I got sick as hell but I will be fully back in a few days, when I feel healthy and energized :)

@drafterman
Drafterman has its point... I am also not sure about this. We could, of course, elaborate on that in a separate topic, see what other folk think.It would be good if posts could be red flagged by mods to show the post was found to be in violation of the CoC. As of now there's just a green check mark either way, and people associate green check marks with approval. Red flagged posts could also be a continuous demonstration to other users of the kind of behavior that should be avoided.

@DrChristineFord
No reason to switch to Russian, it's not fair to the other users.
You don't debate and you didn't really notice users...I gotta ask - what were you paying attention to, and why pick ddo?
I read the arguments for and against some topics that I was interested in. Answering the second question, there weren't any other options but DDO.
пожалуйста, объясните нам. почему вы создаете этот прекрасный сайт на английском? когда ты говоришь по-русски и не любишь спорить. Вы продадите это, может быть?
It was initially in Russian, didn't work out, so I translated it to English when I noticed that DDO was going down. And no, I am not planning on selling it, it's a hobby project, not a commercial project.

About 6 feet (google says that 184cm). Blonde. No abs, but then, bottoms don't really need them quite as much.
So tall and blonde? I hope you are not handsome guy with blue eyes, I hate you damned arians, you make it impossible for other guys to compete lol
God, I hate metric.
This one is on you, you Americans just had to come up with everything different from the outside world haha

@bsh1
Not tall at all, 175-180 centimeters, give or take. I wanted to cry when I went to Germany once and saw those giant people there but I like to think that I am simply heat efficient haha. Some weird dark-ish brown. Abs? I think I saw them a few years ago but then they broke up with me. But with proper training, I could get them back in a few months, but currently, I am too lazy for that haha
What about you? :)
