Specifically I mean the idea that there could be an AI that somehow improves itself or writes the code for a significantly more powerful AI from scratch that then snowballs uncontrollably into exponentially more and more powerful AIs coming into existence without human input being required. The type of things you describe are things that could happen as a result or just happen as a result of natural non-singularity-related advancements in AI.
My claim is that this self-improving AI run away snowball effect idea is silly.

So according to you if I asked 35 million Republicans if they strongly opposed concentration camps only 28 million would say yes. Either that or the way thefederalist.com presented the polling was misleading and it actually had nothing to do with putting people in camps. Those are the two possibilities. It could go either way really, neo-nazi organizational membership is increasing in the country so there being a strong minority of citizens that are pro concentration camp is at least plausible.

Most people who believe in climate change don't put their money where their mouth is (otherwise they would buy solar panels or wind turbines).
What the hell are you even talking about you indescribably weird person? If you are talking about a multi-million dollar wind/solar farms then yeah, most people don't go about doing that in their day to day lives because most people (and you can fact check me on this) aren't multi-millionaires. If you are talking about throwing a few solar panels up on your roof to reduce your energy bill, that actually is very common even among climate deniers because (and you can fact check me on this too) people like paying less in utility bills.

Looking back I don't think badger is suspicious for disagreeing with pie on lynching less active players, just a difference in philosophy.
