Let me expand upon what I’m saying here.

What does it mean to cause pain? Are we causing pain by denying someone their pleasures? If so, the paradox of hedonism is a good angle to look at the issue from. 

The way I see it, the best way to pursue happiness is to pursue work, discipline, and ways to serve others. If we do this, happiness will follow. But if we pursue happiness directly by only doing what makes us happy in the moment, we destroy our chances at long-term happiness. That is the main idea behind the paradox of hedonism.

In knowing this, it is reasonable that sometimes, the best way to avoid harming others, is to thwart their hedonistic pursuits of pleasure.

The individual who does what? The one who cites the paradox of hedonism as means of saying, we can’t let everyone do everything they want?

I’m pretty sure you’re trolling (it’s all you do here, mafia aside), but I’ll offer my opinion regardless.

As a general rule of thumb this is okay for talking to strangers and friends who aren’t close, but getting deeper into philosophy, this statement is terrible for deciding on laws and moral principles.

This thread is goated. Serves the same purpose as a spam thread, but you have to think to post something, so it isn’t actually a spam thread. The mods can’t lock this thread!

Also, in not being spam, I think this thread carries on the legacy of the “Record Attempt at Most Posts” thread from DDO. Keep in mind DDO user GodSands, who created that thread, encouraged people could make small, thoughtful posts along the way.

Another war.

I’m Mharman btw. I’m a Christian conservative. Younger guy (22). I love playing mafia on this site. Other interests include debating (respectfully), video games, chess, and a few misc. things. I’m a pretty honest person, and I prefer to mediate or smoothen conflicts rather than start them.

I doubt people are giving you scum on purpose. With so many games that have been played on this site, and many players, at least one person is statistically likely to draw scum several games in a row at some point.

When did you guys decide you were gonna be hard bussing each other? In DP1 it seemed like both of you were hinting at being willing to lynch the other DP2.

Crazy. I was spectating and told Wylted I thought Pie was scum right away.

I didn’t expect RM to be the teammate though. I was hard townreading him from the start. I figured it was Pie + Austin.

After RM flipped scum it was clear that he and Pie were just hard bussing each other, but that’s so hard to read when actually playing in the game, as opposed to reading along. Austin even called it in DP2 and lost the thread because it was hard to see Pie and RM being on the same team, given their behavior. 

What a performance by them. GGs.

Last nomination goes to Wylted. Dude is weird, but he’s not all bad. He’s not DART president material, but he’s undeniably a part of site. He’s sometime serious and sometimes trolling, to the point where it’s hard to tell what mode he’s in at any given moment. There’ve been many borderline trolls in the history of this site, but Wylted’s one of the OGs. 

Tough choices. 

I nominate Lemming… he’s very thoughtful and his unique style of posting gives everyone a window into his thought process. Just an all-around interesting guy .
