I've never thought about spirituality very much and find myself wondering what it is?

I'd like to learn what exactly it is, how to achieve it, what the benefits are, why I should be spiritual and read about your personal experiences with spirituality.

I am interested in all forms of spirituality, not just those connected with established mainstream religions.

Religion is all about you, God and your relationship with God.

Why do people believe in God?

Most were trained from birth to believe, others begin to believe later.

Believers believe because they don't want to go to hell of course, that's one big thing.

They do want to go to heaven, that's another thing.

They want to be better more disciplined people, which is an advantage.

They want to feel better and many report feeling more content as a result.

They may want to quit drinking or have some other life crisis that can be eased by the adoption of religion.

There are probably a lot of reasons, but they are all about you and what is going on inside you.

Religion is an inwardly focused activity and that's what it's about.

Most of us have seen the Castle Bravo nuclear test at Bikini Atoll, but did you know it was a mistake? Castle Bravo was designed to be a 5 megaton device, but when they set it off it unexpectedly yielded a 15 megaton blast. This was due to a mistake in the design.

The fuel used was lithium 6 and the core was a mixture of 30% lithium 6 and 70% lithium 7, the lithium 7 was thought to be inert. When the detonation occurred the reaction stripped one of the neutrons from the lithium 7 atoms and that turned it in to lithium 6 so instead of a 5 megaton blast what they got was a 15 megaton blast.

For the people at the test site this 15 megaton blast was a terrifying surprise and many of them thought they were going to die right then and there. Some of the people did end up dying later as a result of radiation poisoning.

It seems such an obvious mistake that it's hard to believe that the scientists at the time didn't see it coming.

Do you ever think about the shape of the universe?

How would you describe the shape of the whole thing?

We can talk about the center of the universe as well if you like.

Your true creator is the universe. I say true because god has not been confirmed, the universe has. Our universe is where we come from. We are made of the same atoms that it is made out of. We grew from the ground here on this planet in this universe and became what we are now. There is no matter imported from another universe inside you. If you can't find it on the periodic table of elements you don't have it in you. The universe created you in the same way that a flowing river creates a valley. It has no more intent or plan than a river does.

All of this will not affect god because he can be forever moved to just beyond what we know. God is where we will mark our ignorance as if to say, beyond here there lies dragons.

I saw a TV show where people from the future were traveling back in time by somehow downloading their minds into a person in the past just before that person dies. We don't need to talk about plausibility, it's just completely ridiculous in every conceivable way, but one thing I thought when I saw this show turned out to be worth contemplation.

The way your brain learns is by brain cells shooting out dendrites which connects it to other brain cells, they do this your entire life from birth. Dendrites are little hairs that grow very rapidly out of every brain cell. The more you listen to/write about/talk about/ practice something the more your brain makes dendrites. Learning equals growth of dendrites.

What this means is that learning physically changes the structure of the brain so it's not as if your thoughts have no physicality at all, in fact it's the opposite of that. Not only your thoughts but the way you think is hard wired into your brain in real time.

So let's say we take a dead brain and reanimate it by forcing some kind of energy through it, what would likely come out? Most likely what would come out would be the guy who owned the brain when it was alive.

Have you ever seen something on the news and said, Wow, that was straight out of Atlas Shrugged?

If you have, describe what it was.

You should never argue with religious people because they have magic on their side. When you have magic on your side literally anything you can think of is possible. So, never argue with religious people, unless of course you find it amusing.

If we had no math you would know all your children's names, but you wouldn't know how many you have. If we had no math not much would be possible. Nothing requiring numbers would exist. Pages in a book could not be numbered and the number of pages would be unknown. We could not measure anything and technology could not exist. When I think about it having no math seems utterly impossible.

Religious people often seem to be at odds with science because they believe it threatens their religion.

What I am wondering is, do you ever wish you lived in a world without science where your religion could flourish unimpeded?

I've seen and heard religious people talk about stuff like that. In terms of a hole or a space or a place inside them that they fill with Gods love, or something to that effect.

I'd like you guys to explain this to me and also to share your personal experiences of this phenomena.

I've seen many religious people use the phrase, Jesus is Lord, but I'm not exactly sure I understand what it means. Can someone please explain this to me?
