A number of people smoke where I live and work.

Has anyone studied which ways to smoke tobacco have a lower health risk?

  • A certain sort of pipe
  • Cigars of some sort
  • Cigarettes
How often should one smoke if they prefer tobacco?

Occasionally, the sly hotspur within Malcolm compelled him to disobey his sovereign’s orders that he humbly petition the Klansmen. After being allowed to ease away from the segregation-versus-separation stalemate, Fellows suggested, for instance, that the Muslims might operate as something of a Black franchise of the broader Klan movement.

“We can work together,” Fellows said, “and put a stop to this integration.” The direct offer brought a wicked smile across Malcolm’s face that he just as quickly wiped away.  Still, he could not restrain himself. “Well, what do you mean, we can’t join the Klan?” Jeremiah remembered Malcolm saying, wary of where the proposal was heading.

“We’ll make y’all like a partner,” Fellows explained—like an auxiliary.

“Are you going to get us some robes?” Malcolm deadpanned in a manner that had Jeremiah chuckling heartily, but only internally for the moment.

“Well, no, we can’t let no n----- wear a white robe,” the Klansman said, pondering alternatives as Malcolm leaned in over the tripod of his fingers.

“I tell you what, Malcolm,” Fellows finally said, “we can get y’all some purple robes.”

“Oh, no, no, no.” said Malcolm, unwilling to let the opposing leader slip the leash. “We want white robes.”

Returning to the stalemate over racial segregation versus separation, Malcolm chided the Klansmen that they shouldn’t be able to segregate him and give him what they want him to have, instead of what he should have. “If we are going to be partners in this thing, then give us a white robe like what you have.”

“No, we can’t let no n-----s wear white robes,” Fellows insisted, as he gazed back at the puzzled countenances of his colleagues at the table.

“Tell ya what,” Fellows continued, “we’ll bring some purple robes over here and you’ll just have to make do with ’em.”

Point made, Malcolm relaxed the purple-robe tension by allowing the matter to float away as a nonstarter.  He then brought Jeremiah and the other Klansmen into the discussion on more general matters, focusing on the Nation of Islam’s taking care of its Black “hypocrites.” Digressing somewhat from instructions, Malcolm stated that violence sometimes was indeed necessary, especially to defend one’s people from those who would lead them astray.

How do you actually function as someone who doesn't believe race exists?

If I'm interacting with someone who expresses their belief in races, I'd likely just ask them what they actually mean when they bring up a racial construct.  The last time this happened someone said their wife was "white".  I asked what that meant, and they meant that she likes Starbucks, and comes off as a bit shallow and materialistic.

Instead of projecting nonsense onto their wife, I actually know what they meant.

My life is not burdened by strange relations or more complicated from distorted views. I just don't think about races from day to day.  It's not the first thing I think when I see someone, nor the last.  I tend to get along with people perfectly fine.  I don't typically invite people with such notions around my family, so there is that.  It's not as if I have something against anyone in particular.  I just want my family to be respected, so if you want to meet my family you have to be respectful.

Do you think forensic scientists just make stuff up when they identity the race of someone through their skull shape?

I think I would have to ascertain what they are intending to communicate and consider what the methodology is comprised of.

Often times in law enforcement people are following protocol.  If that is the case, they are not "making stuff up".  The stuff was made up for them.

Do you think skin color is just random?

Broadly speaking I am not sure how ensoulment works.  Does our body limit us by happenstance?  Is it selected for us to lead a certain life, with certain perspective?

I don't believe it was truly made according to a construct arbitrated by man.  I know that for certain.

Reserving ourselves to a biological approach, it appears random from observation in the sense that you cannot predict someone's skin tone by looking at their parents, though the apple does not fall far from the tree.  With practice, one might be able to approximate the range of possibilities the majority of the time.

Does that answer your question?

Ethnicity is sentimental because it is rooted in perception of shared experience.  A race would generally not have a shared sentiment.

It should seem obvious that the concept of a race is not equivalent to an ethnic group.
I think this statement happens to hold true whether or not one should believe in such things.

What are some big things you’ve changed your mind about?
Marriage is not recognized by any government in the United States of America.  As a byproduct, one of the side effects we see is common law hanging by a thread.

I don't see how an aspiring student is supposed to reconcile common law (actual marriage) with the status quo, which is essentially designed for permitting a civil union.  If you insist that the government should involve itself in marital affairs, it has become apparent that society is not currently bound to self-correct.

As for what has changed for me, for one thing I used to listen to NPR, and now my stations have become somewhat off-putting.  When I was still expecting to see employee turnover, I felt almost a sensation of confusion as to how absurd it is to hear subliminal or more explicitly racialized material from someone tasked with public relations.  I expect some people to hold archaic notions, but as I have gotten older I have resolved myself to be decidedly intolerant of racial nonsense rising up through the ranks.  Even for someone without a spine, these days you can say it's bad business.  I just can't relate from my experience to how people with such views have assumed managerial positions in ventures initiated by the federal government.

How these figures are obtained is anyone's guess, but it can serve well enough for understanding the trend.  You can see in the third graph that the United States of America as a whole has leveled off, and it's not realistic to expect that reduction in American commutes is going to offset the rest of the world which in general is developing at a faster rate.  Even if we all get a solar panel and bury 100 percent of our carbon emissions into the ground, it's not going to slow things down so much as it is going to shift where it is coming from.

Look at how much China has grown.  Imagine if that growth takes place somewhere in Africa or South America.

Some men want children and some are not particularly interested.  Decent men assume a protective roll in marriage.  It is a well understood reality that life is harder on a man.  Wise men will take some account for their partner in old age, and they do tend to consider the age difference.  I don't see that people should take on a view that there is an ideal age to marry.

If I perceived that I was "on the market", I wouldn't desire to continue dating someone.  There's a different game being played in that situation.

If your relationship is transactional in nature, I wouldn't call that a marriage.

It's probably best to be satisfied with being single.  Some people say that makes a woman unfulfilled in old age, but I don't think so.  It makes her highly attractive.  She ultimately has higher quality relationships with her friends, and a higher chance of meeting a man that is willing to propose and able to marry.

Faithfulness is extremely important to the man a woman dreams of marrying.  Women who wait for the right man age more gracefully.

Is it possible to have a trophy husband? You know, some pretty boy that doesn't do much but is gorgeous?
It happens sometimes with wealthy older women yes.
How often do you think it happens that a woman takes to a husband just from looks, knowing that he has no drive?

Do they actually end up bonding within a valid marriage?  A husband is bound unto his wife for life.

I will start by looking at information that took place in the last month.  After looking through the forum subjects, it looks like the vast majority of talk takes place in the politics section.  I'll give priority outside of politics if I happen to notice something.

First, when will Americans finally concede that there is no good reason for citizens to own semiautomatic rifles with high capacity magazines?
This is an ambiguous statement.

The  Girandoni rifle was carried on the Lewis and Clark expedition which trekked across the United States from the east all the way to the pacific ocean, starting in 1803.  The standard capacity for the magazine was around 20 lead balls.

The Secret Service which employs civilian LEO's charged with protecting the President of the United States has been known to utilize the FN P90 rifle.  The standard capacity flush fit top mounted magazine is 50 rounds of 5.7x28 centerfire ammunition.  The semi-automatic version, generally with a longer barrel, is known as the PS90.

The original Henry repeating lever action rifle made during the 1860's equipped with a 24 inch barrel has a tubular magazine which can house 15 rounds of 44 caliber rimfire ammunition, if you can find 44 Henry ammunition.

Modern rimfire rifles with tubular magazines typically hold about 12-20 rounds of rimfire.  Rifles capable of cycling 22 short are often capable of housing more than 20 rounds because of the shorter length of that cartridge.

The M1A rifle is designed so that the magazine naturally protrudes from the bottom of the rifle.  Flush mount magazines exist, but more typical is 10-20 rounds of .308 Winchester ammunition.  The rifle was made with 20 round magazines in mind.

The Kel-Tec CMR-30 rifle and the Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol both utilize the same magazines.  Standard magazines that come in the box hold 30 rounds of 22 magnum ammunition and fit flush inside of the handle.

And what is the reason it’s important for citizens to be allowed to own semiautomatic rifles with high capacity magazines?
Semiautomatic means that if you pull the trigger, the action of the firearm will self-actuate from pressure and automatically chamber the next round.  After the round is chambered, you have to manually reset the trigger by releasing it, and then pull it again to fire another round.

A rifle is used because rifling in the barrel induces spin on a projectile, which makes it more accurate at distance.

People may prefer semi-automatic rifles because it removes the human element from the equation.  Some people find that it provides practical consistency.

The reason high capacity magazines are important is generally because the standard capacity the firearm was designed around does not hold enough ammunition.

Here is a tangible example.  Many people bring a firearm with them when they travel.  It's nice to be able to separate the ammunition from the firearm.  You can purchase a firearm along with an upgraded detachable magazine that holds as many rounds as you need for a camping trip.  When you are done using it you can remove the magazine which makes it inoperable.  When you want to use it again, it can be ready to go within a few seconds.

The intent of this exercise is to promote healthy and relevant discussion on a topic many have taken interest in debating.  I have no political affiliation besides loyalty to my fellow citizens, no financial interest, and no professional pressure influencing my writing.  While it is nice that there aren't a lot of sources of bias to impart, I also don't have any real accountability and I am limited by my experience.  To offset any shortcoming, critical review is necessary.  There is no reason to treat the information as an authoritative reference.  It's aimed to help people convey their intentions in a way that others can relate to.

Due to inflation and labor shortages you should probably be looking for $15 at minimum in todays market, and that's if you live in a place with such a low cost of living.

A lot of places are dealing with the softest generation in American history.  It's not that hard for an able bodied man to compete with.  Just stop starting fights, don't lie, and work on your handshake.  Part of working on your handshake is working on yourself, maybe some forgiveness.  If you picked a good wife she'll make breakfast and nudge you to get up on Sunday mornings.  It's complicated with a family, but there is the option to move if you have to.

I've never been the best at anything before, so I appreciate the gesture toward my compelling argument.  There isn't a surviving word in our current language for the ethnic connotation of black or African American to differentiate it reliably from a racial one, so you're always going to have some confusion and you can't get around that with a general audience.  Even if it's only several people out of a hundred that is quite significant, so more descriptive language is definitely warranted.

There's another problem that was overlooked, because you don't understand why they're saying something.  It could be their whole family isn't racist, and that's what they draw from.  Maybe they feel passionate about the subject, and it's hyperbolic, so to say "how could they possibly do such a thing?".  Are they saying "we experienced racism and we don't like it" or "my race is immune to racism"?  There's no way of knowing.

Even if the sampling method is adequate, the poll is flawed.  There isn't any line of questioning that actually cuts to the chase.

Do you believe in races?  Yes or no
Which ones?  Check all that apply
....
Do you think the white one has these special qualities?

If you're forced to revert to drawing from your experience, then the poll is pointless.

@YouFound_Lxam
I call might refer to a man dressing like a girl as a crossdresser, or more likely not call them anything in particular.  That doesn't benefit society, and its not an ideology.  It is what it is.

It's also not a political thing, not unless you want it to be.

20 years ago someone your age would have heard the song "Dude looks like a Lady" by Aerosmith over the radio.  They might feel it's a good song or not, and not think any more deeply on the subject than that.

Honestly, I would have to go out of my way to find someone who even talks about such things.

Psychology is not a trade, and college is a place where men and women are physically at or approaching their peak for starting a family, but since we encourage people to go before they even have their own home, they don't have enough skill and stability for the commitment.  There's lots of bias brought about by sexual exploration associated with the culture.

It's a fad.

I don't doubt a significant percentage could be proven, but it was not done by the OP.

It says black people, so some people who's family immigrated from Africa aren't going to answer it because black and African American mean different things, and different people will perceive it differently as well.  That's going to mess with the percentage because the poll doesn't properly define whatever the pollster intended to communicate.  On top of that, there's not enough options to select from.

Also, twitter is kind of a cesspool.  It's not a representative sample of the American populous.

Traditional superstitions held within the United States became obsolescent for common people sometime between around 160 and 60 years ago.  It's pretty normal for someone below the age of retirement not to have formed belief in such notions in the 21st century, and it's not unheard of among the elderly.

Black guy voice, is it different from others?
-->
@IlDiavolo
It is a cultural thing.  The more inclined they are to segregation the more likely a distinct manner of speaking is to be handed down.

American immigrants are often more "American" than the native population.  I've had opportunity to see immigrants to the United States that enthusiastically take full advantage of their opportunity during the formative years to embrace vibrant new culture.  Naturally it is possible if someone assimilates well that they would incline themselves to learn the peculiarities of their English speaking from a native accent, and that contributes to generating opportunity (Americans love immigrants) which in turn contributes to efficiently attaining a great level of refinement.

If a child or young adult was not familiarized heavily by a Spanish speaker and they immigrated for say, education, where they were somehow immersed in black culture, they might come to speak similarly while thinking in English with only slight or occasional hints of their native tongue.

The opposite is also true.  I've seen old families that hand down their black ethnicity migrate to places that they got along very well with, and their children or grandchildren developed the native accent of their peers because there was no segregation about the community.

That has been my experience.  Of course, individually, your voice has that inherent influence by your direct family.

For some reason I decided to read from a forum tonight before I go to sleep.  The sentiment I feel at this moment is that I hope you all feel free to express yourselves, but at the same time I hope you can leave satisfied with your words.  I would be ashamed if I learned my family member had spoken in such a manner as displayed here.

The solemn event which I just learned of has come long after two men were involved in a fight, one of which lost their life.  The deceased was a young man, probably for all I know, the son of a living mother.  Another man was charged and tried for the serious crime of intentionally killing someone, murder.  He also has a family.  Witnesses and responders will remember a firsthand account of tragedy for years to come.  This is not something to bicker about.

In Texas, you are liable to be charged with a hate crime if appropriate.  If the survivor was not deemed guilty of a hate crime, he will not be pardoned of a hate crime.

Skin color was a notably inappropriate implication as displayed by each member here.

Hopefully, this is of help to someone.

@PREZ-HILTON
There are other means than a gun or knife to prevent harm or provide self defense. Some new ones are non lethal, providing a means to escape.

This is a good point.   Most of self-defense is avoiding conflicts.  If you can't avoid it all together, the next best thing is to escape.  Eventually someone is going to come up with a less lethal option that works better for personal defense than a firearm.  That would be popular in urbanized areas and will undermine conventional fighting implements.

In the long term your individualistic arguments aren't sustainable.  Eventually the constitution of the United States will cease to exist.  It is not insurmountable.

You should be thinking long and hard about how people will be trained in the future if you actually want the 2nd amendment to carry into the 22nd century.

What common belief unites all of republican beliefs and what common belief unites all of democrat beliefs?  I can't think of any 100% consistent answer.

Hello,

It appears we've gotten off on the wrong foot.  I understand that this is not an ideal format for communicating the finer nuances of emotion, and perhaps you only intend to be honest.  I happen to be one of the nicer people you will meet in life, quite open minded and generally easy to get along with.  If push comes to shove I am also known for my stubborn streak in the face of injustice.

For the unlikely case it should not be readily apparent, I will say that insulting behavior is not a convincing argument for doing research on someone else's behalf.  I have no interest in performing work which would be more likely to be used against me than taken in earnest.

That said, I am not one to let first impressions spoil potential in future relations.  I expect that you will be more polite in the future.

I noticed someone claiming that automatic weapons are banned in the United States of America. This is probably true in a few states, though not in the sense that it would be in other countries.  They would be illegal to transfer within the state, without theft of lawfully held property having taken place.

In the US, we have our automatic weapons taxed a flat rate of $200 by the federal government at the time of transfer.  It happens that the ones that are legally held, to my knowledge, are virtually never used in crime.  A sizeable amount are not registered, not out of dishonesty but because the owner anticipated action like that seen in places where property rights are not respected, or because they persistently believe a particular measure isn't valid law.  This is not an endorsement of ignoring ATF protocol.  Right or wrong, they will most likely get away with violating your rights and charge you with a felony.

Most people acquired their property prior to 1986 when the federal government started strictly controlling new production.  Still, there are places where new weapons having been extralegally built/converted are encountered by police officers often enough because they were carried by criminals.  It is presently legal for civilians to procure new "machine guns" if they are well enough connected to something the government takes interest in.  It is expensive, but also legal in most states if they obtain proper licensing with the federal government for manufacturing.

In most states, automatic weapons are not banned.  It would be pointless.

Tell me more about gun culture that American was born and raised on. Let's start with that blunderbuss that you owned at only 12 years of age. Did you ever shoot yourself in the foot with it?
12 years of age, eh?  must be in the genes.

For most people some sort of long gun would be more intuitive to safely operate than a motor vehicle.  Kids are usually entrusted in some capacity between the age they develop the physical skill set up to the age they are expected to roam miles away unsupervised.  I've seen boys that masterfully use their rifle by around 12, and do so with maturity expected of men in their 40's.  It really doesn't matter if you learn at 9 or 92.  Everyone is different.

Do grades determine your intelligence?

In the states I have lived in, most everyone can get an "A" in high school.  College isn't much more complicated than high school.  It just takes more work, and you need to be fine at scheduling.  Maybe some people will drop down a letter grade, and more if they get distracted.  As far as I'm concerned, above average grades indicate above average chance of graduating.  One great argument I've heard for consciously working to obtain "good" grades is to secure financial backing for your education, and of course making your mother happy.

After graduation it's rarely discussed, and I don't entertain that it has practical applications.   I am wary of a false sense of entitlement so don't present yourself in that way, but I probably won't care.

I don't read into it any more than that.

We are refining the crude oil that was made long before history into fuel so it can be burned, so I would agree with someone claiming that it is nonrenewable in that context.   Renewable resources can be depleted as well.  The reason I believe modern contentions that we should consider the reserves as finite is because I am impressed by the advent of fracking, and now I believe further improvements will have diminishing returns.  I don't rule out that this may prove inaccurate, but at the same time I'm confident that there's only so many years left of the best reserves.

I haven't said anything about the climate.  I think that fuel prices are going to rise well before we run out of crude oil if demand rises while supply shrinks.

If the United States were to become economically isolated by large scale international effort, what do think we're going to do?

That doesn't really answer the question of whether or not EV's can exist without being subsidized by govt. Internal combustion engines can be scaled to any size also.
Unless demand for fossil fuels miraculously declines in the coming decades, the writing is on the wall for mainstream application of conventional reciprocating piston engines.  If internal combustion engines are hooked directly up to the drivetrain of the future, it would be on account of something radically different.

I think for situations where they won't prove unreliable, electric motors are the most viable means of propulsion that exists today.   This is quite clear to me.  The question that I can't answer is how energy will be stored.

I don't believe lithium-ion batteries as they are currently produced are 'the future'.  That's not to say it won't happen, but I recognize that billions of people demand personal transportation, and scarcity of resources is a decisive factor as to what remains marketable.

Some of the governments are actively hording lithium by promoting growth of infrastructure to reduce their dependance on other resources, which is probably reasonable for consideration of national security.  I don't know any details of how well it can be recycled.  Nobody has provided me with good reason to believe that lithium can be extracted and utilized in quantities as large as what is currently expected for aluminum engine blocks and transmissions, in addition to all its alternative applications.

If it happens that batteries won't become dominant as a means of energy storage, then what will?
