Matt Walsh on Dr Phil.
-->
@Bones
At what stage do you think it is appropriate for someone to change their gender. If gender is in the mind, can I change it now? What if I'm not on the spectrum? What if I feel like a turtle?
Alright I’ll play along.

Hmm good point. What if someone dressed up in a turtle costume? Would they be a turtle? We would call them a turtle in any other context wouldn’t we?

Matt Walsh was recently on the Dr Phil Show. Here is his own breakdown. From a purely neutral position, I don't think the gender activists did a very good job - they constantly had mental blocks and couldn't answer some pretty reasonable questions from Matt. To be fair, Dr Phil could have called on some more capable gender activists, especially if they were going to be "debating" someone as prominent and quick minded as Matt.

What do we think of this exchange? How would you have responded to Matt's questions?
Conservative quick minded wit when it comes to identity politics is essentially oversimplified questions where one has to backtrack to their axioms. Which would be fine if they weren’t set up as gotchas.

I would say woman is a gendered word. It relies on gendered characteristics, not biological ones such as a uterus.

From my understanding the Amish have small tight knit communities with practiced doctrine that is the antithesis to civilisation when it comes to technological advancement.

But yeah, they’re a society.

I’m not arguing that no civilisations have collapsed. Sadolite is arguing the opposite, that all civilisations have fallen.
I said to him I distinguish between decline and collapse.

You define civilisation very narrowly. Your criteria for a collapsed civilisation is a failed government/famine. Civilisation is more than just governorship. It’s also a shared cultural identity. This is why I think you’re conflating civilisation with empire.

There are plenty of civilisations that have stood the test of time including the most famous one in North Africa and two big ones in Asia.
I distinguish between decline and collapse (abolished). There are many in Europe too. I’m no expert but those are the obvious ones.

I think you need a break from what you’ve been doing that got you into this mindset. It’s not healthy.

The more interesting philosophical question for me, is why has it become necessary for a species to be dependant upon electrical energy?

A different forum perhaps.

Whether or not I like snorting coke off of a gay hooker, really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Wouldn’t you be part of the problem? Or are you arguing snorting cocaine off of a gay hookers ass isn’t gay? I’m kinda confused.

I counter with the supposition that they’re layered. PC upon PC. You can’t escape it.

A Moral Question Involving Homicide
-->
@Buddamoose
I’m going into this with no idea how law surrounding this works.

Lets imagine for purposes of edification there is a married couple. Person 1 in the married couple is quite unhappy with Person 2. So much so that Person 1 hires(pays) Person 3 to kill Person 2.

Person 3 kills person 2. This plot is uncovered by Law Enforcement and both are arrested.

Should Person 1 or 3 be charged with homicide[1], or both? Why?
Only Person 3. Person 3 was the sole actor in the murder.

Should Person 1 or 3 receive the more severe punishment? Should their punishment be equal? Why?
The punishment of imprisonment should be equal, assuming everything was straightforward.

Person 1 actively/knowingly incentivised the murder through a neutral transaction.

What critiques do you have, if any, with how homicide, and its variations, is classified and prosecuted?(in the US) Why?

If none, what aspects are particularly appealing? Why?

I do not know.

By lethal drugs I meant addictive drugs that can kill you if you quit cold turkey.

There are things in life that are far worse than death.
If you want to get all depressed about it. What do you mean exactly?

If they give a definite signal that they are going to start killing hostages for some stupid reason, then yeah I’d say playing the hero would be justified.
But do you really think it’s 50/50 getting killed going along with their demands versus being defiant? That’s what it sounds like. There’s a large amount of statistics and research out there.

What’s the point of risking your life and others for a bank? Reality will play out differently than what you would imagine. It probably won’t finish with you getting laid. On the other hand If you/others are in immediate danger of being killed, that’s a different story I’d say.

Evidence for God
-->
@ethang5
Well, it will be very easy for you if you simply insist your beliefs are reality. I don't mind you "winning" that way. God is not "abstract" at all. In fact, I don't even know what "abstract" means as you use it here.
By abstract I mean intangible. How do you experience God outside the mind without delving into new age spiritual abstraction?

No. I may not be an Einstein, but I'm certainly not that stupid. Why would I consider that?
Because God has genocidal tendencies. A big one would be the flood for example.

True, but using formal terminology would clutter the process, and would make people not familiar with the jargon less able to follow.
I think it would expand and clarify a lot of ideas while condensing the conversation. It would just take a quick google search for us to be on the same page. The dilemma would be for me to find the terminology in the first place.

What does "abstract" mean. Not in existence? Because God exists.
I’m just going to be blunt. God exists just like my dragon. Though you might be more emotionally invested. Existence is a big umbrella term if you ditch colloquial speech.

And my God is my God by definition.
Yes it is.

So you are using "abstract" in terms of non-existent. But is it logical to insist on your conclusion while we argue your argument? Should we not establish the truth of  your premises first, and then see if your conclusion follows necessarily from them?
Again I’m using abstract in terms of intangibility. Is this the premise you wanted?

Much deeper. God created me with his very "hands". He sustains me. The life force/power in my body and mind are sourced from Him. He soothes me when I'm afraid or dejected, He directs when I'm lost. He protects my loved ones. He gives me peace that passes understanding. He understands me.
I could say the same thing about my dragon.

I would have to lie to say I was unsure God exists.

Why could you not have used "non-existent"? How was "abstract" a more honest choice? We already know you don't think God exists, how can a premisein your argument that God doesn't exist, be your conclusion?? (And yes, there is a name for that logical fallacy.)

If you think my arguments success depends on your credulity, then I will have no problem leaving you to your beliefs that you conflate with reality. I just thought you were about to logically show me how God couldn't exist, instead of simply telling me in a dodgy way, that I must be wrong because - you don't think God exists.

Bummer.
Fiction still exists conceptually. I’m not using existence in a colloquial sense because we’ll probably end up in the weeds if we go down that road.
