Well the people who sat through the trial of the central park 5 found them guilty and a judge later on overturned the conviction due to lack of DNA evidence, an incorrect decision. So glad you agree with the jury here

It's better than the alternative; censorship. This is why we have menus at resturants; one food option may taste horrible to you, but other people may like it. Some people like talking about Trump, other people like talking about guns. If you don't want to talk about whether the Trump shooting was justified, then you don't have too. Other people like it. This is why we have menus (Trump said this btw, and as much as I hate Trump, he is right here).
They may have not directly rape her but were part of the criminal group that took part in the events that night. It's like when a gang surrounds you and only one is beating the shit out of you. The one's surrounding you are also at fault because you know what will happen if you attempt to defend yourself.
You can believe that if you disagree with the NYC court ruling; but the NYC court found them not guilty. When it's whether person X did something everyone believes should be a crime, but the guilt status is in question, I consistently trust the people who actually sat through the trial. The court found Andrew Tate innocent of rape charges, I believe them. Same thing with Kyle Rittenhouse, same thing with all 3 of Trump's trials, same thing with the Brooklyn 5 and OJ Simpson.
Such debates about past events are pointless because they are unchangable.

There is a huge difference between calling for the death of the Brooklyn 5 and actually murdering them. You hero, Trump, called for the death penalty for the Brooklyn 5 because he believes they did something horrible. He is allowed to do that. It would only be illegal if he acted on this belief and murdered them (although if the Brooklyn 5 was actually rapists, then I don't think he would do anything wrong; it is because they were found to be innocent that I think what Trump would hypothetically do should be illegal). Trump believing the Brooklyn 5 are rapists, believing rape is horrible, and merely calling for them to be killed for something obviously bad if true is free speech.

So split up into more ideologically similar factions and have rank choice voting if you are worried about splitting the vote. Why would a non-religious buisinessman who is pro choice but wants lower corporate taxes have any sense in voting for a religious politician that is pro life and would restrict buisinesses to allow for more paid maternal time off to reduce the abortion rate just because they are both republicans?

The measures harm this nation if they don't significantly reduce the homicide rate because they unjustly tread on liberty. If the law forced everyone to wear orange shirts every Monday, then nobody gets harmed by that law. That doesn't mean it's a good law because it treads on freedom pointlessly. Wearing an orange shirt every Monday should be strictly optional.
I read the source. I looked at charts A and B. In chart A, the firearm homicide rate(FHR) was falling before the gun control and falling slightly faster after the gun control. Also, the non firearm homicide rate (NFHR) fell a little bit in that study as well (chart B). It's widely believed that gun control laws effect the firearm homicide rate, but nobody believes gun control laws would reduce the non-firearm homicide rate. But both homicide rates went down, so it's safe to assume that some other policy that happened in 1996 caused this to happen. Otherwise, the FHR would have fallen and the NFHR would have been virtually the same.

The idea that the 2 parties are equal doesn't make sense to me. The democrats are more respectable voters because they have a consistent ethos and the GOP doesn't.
The democrat voter block is superior to the republican voter block from an intellectual standpoint, even if I personally lean more libertarian. Libertarianism and Democrat ideology; they are equal because they are principled with something (for the libertarians, it's pro freedom, for the democrats, it's anti-unwanted pain). Republicans don't have a consistent ethos, so their combination of beliefs is inferior.

Escaping Planet Earth is essential for long term species survival.
This is only true if Earth becomes inhospitable (which even with climate change by 2100, earth will still be more hospitable than mars).
But if you want to colonize Mars at some point, then it makes sense to start with easier things to colonize like Antartica and then gradually work our way up. Antartica behaves like Mars in many (but not all) ways; extreme cold, dry atmosphere, but you also have oxygen, an ozone layer and a magnetic field.

Intentional homicides (per 100,000 people) - Sweden | Data (worldbank.org). Sweden implemented strict gun control measures in 1996 and their homicide rate didn't fall significantly because of it.

There are people here that love and hate our POTUS candidates; nobody on this thread is plausibly going to travel thousands of kilometers to DC or Florida and go out of their way and lose their job to commit an assassination against someone that will probably fail.

Almost every other country with better regulation has lower gun violence rates, and they significantly dropped after the policies were implemented.
The Non American West (NAW) does have much lower homicide rates than the US, but this was true to a very comparable extent even before their gun control laws got stricter.
From 1995 to 2006 (when these laws were put into place) the gun violence rate has dropped by 59% and suicides involving guns have dropped by 65%.
I would need a source for this. I thought their homicide rate was basically unchanged due to the laws and they kept their laws; there was no sunset provision in place.

I'm not sure, but I can do a proof by contradiction for why gun laws are not the reason.
Lets say we assume that gun control laws are the reason why the EU has less homicide than the US. If this was true, then the homicide rate in the EU would have been a lot higher before the gun laws vs now.
Australia implemented very strict gun laws in 1994. Did it reduce their homicide rate significantly? No. Sweden did something similar in 1996. Did their homicide rate fall? No. Their homicide rates were much lower than America's before their stricter gun control laws.
So to claim that gun laws are the reason for the EU's homicide rate being much lower is incorrect.

You are allowed to advocate assassinating leaders you think deserve it. I have no plan to get it done. Like if I said we should kill Kim Jun Un and I live in the US, nobody considers that to be crazy speech. Now, Trump isn't as bad, but the same concept applies.
You can advocate for nuking Pyongyang (which would kill a leader plus millions of other people) and that's fine. Advocating the killing of one leader that I believe is horrible with no plan to get it done is legal to do.

Ronald Reagan dominated both major elections he had.
You might be right, but it's uncertain. And unlike Reagan, a solid 90% or so of the population has their mind made up on Trump. Trump would be the favorite even without this event because he only barely lost in 2020 because COVID existed and Trump took unpopular positions on the issue (no mask mandate, which polled at 25% in 2020). If COVID didn't exist, then Trump would win in 2020 because suburban America was very pro mask mandate in 2020 relative to other comparable areas politically (I live in the suburbs; I know) and this caused Trump to lose a lot of suburban voters.
Now to me, Jan 6 is a deal breaker. This isn't universal, but the suburbs hate Jan 6. This is causing the suburbs to be more blue. But a lot of black voters are turning up for Trump because a decent chunk of blacks are immigrants (as are Hispanics) and Biden deported more people than Trump. Blacks that have been here for 10 generations or so don't care about that, hood blacks are going to be very blue voting even in 2024.
If Biden kept his immigration promises of reducing the deportation count, then I believe he would be polling better with non FBA blacks and Hispanics. But he's acting very Trumpian on it, so a lot of them abandon him on this.
Lets say you are a democrat; your ethos is reducing unwanted pain. If you had to pick between 2 people that are acting very right wing on certain issues, then you are either voting Biden as an anti Trump vote or you are going for a 3rd party. If Trump never did Jan 6, then democrats would be checked out, they wouldn't vote, and Trump wins virtually every state by large margins.
But Trump's assassination attempt I believe won't help him much in the polls. It might even cause some brain damage (he was bleeding a lot near his head and he's 78).
