Why bother with beliefs on LGBT at all? The rest are pretty much fine, all a bit of a wank, but what of it. But your ideas on LGBT are antagonistic with nothing really coming back at you or provoking it. Why invest in such ideas at all?
Same goes for abortion. I mean, it doesn't really matter. It's an issue you're going out of your way to have an opinion about. It's not god, you don't believe in god. So, what?

I don't know. Farmers around used to come to my grandfather to "kill the pig" as they called it. He was something of an expert about it apparently. Bit of a giant of a man also, probably helped. But it was that. Hung up, throat slit, let to bleed out. And a big drum underneath to catch the blood. I don't know how needed was that. They didn't have stun guns, gassing, or electrocution for sure. I might have wanted to cave the animal's head in with a sledgehammer first. Anyway, I missed all that.
We have our kind of a ritual when the animals go to slaughter, and I do take comfort in it. Same thing every time. We have this very ugly, very little, very religious man comes with the lorry. An Igor sort of character but not a bit of badness in him. All Holy Gods and Christs Above. The man is more of my religion than any priest I've ever met. Really, I guess he's about all there is to it. I don't know who chose him for the job, but they chose well.
I do hate the idea of factory farms, but mine is not that. There's maybe something in what Skep said too. I'd still have wanted the sledgehammer.

I once nearly had a fight with a vet because he punched one of my cattle in the mouth because it kicked while he was injecting it. Bit hypocritical really, because I've done it too. Dumb animals can be frustrating. I learned though. Their faces are fucking hard.
Your posts killed my erection completely last night.

My next thread was gonna be Big Sulphates, Selfish Lovers, and the Problem of Pussy, but it got way too graphic. I think I got some good points though if only it weren't all about head.

Enough about Big Pharma. Lately I've been thinking a lot about Big Meat.
Anyone else ever think about Big Meat?

I have never watched explicitly gay porn in my life. At least, on my own.

60-70% of men are aroused by other men.
I remember you posting some stat regarding to this which relied on 99% of pornhub users being male. I highly doubt that latter part.
I can also tell you Wylted refused a dick pic from me last night.

I think China's going to get rich and we're all going to be naked. Who's making our clothes for us for pittance then? We'll move the sweat shops to Africa and we'll be back to the good old days. The world of progress is one big balancing act. We need a super rich and a super poor, otherwise nothing much gets done. I did the maths on it on here before. Elon Musk's hour's work pays a sweat shop wage that builds 14 great pyramids. We'll send the immigrants to Mars.

I basically agree with Res. The trickiest part about it is that you can't really ever do a quantifiable good with things like this either way. Like Res says, if immigration makes America stronger, the rest of the world is worse off. If not, America dies. And that's the Holy All of it. I'd nearly throw morals out the window altogether with an idea instead to wring every last bit of technological innovation out of whatever empire currently is. That's an evolutionary escape. Raising someone up is chopping someone down. I don't really have much else to say about it.

What good discussion is there to be had by two or more individuals who do not intend to engage each other?
Obviously none. But we'll have to navigate their bullshit.

It's cool to see and hear that a website like that brought in people who didn't even have an outside interest in debate.
The whole world of people likes to argue. Sites like this will get those people too.

Yeah I had two weed-centric accounts before that. Got banhammered by Phil for comparing him to Hitler in some debate comments section. All in good fun.

I guess you don't see "I've" written in Harry Potter books or whatever I read at school. I was next to illiterate arriving on DDO.

@zedvictor4
Yeah but how did you find it? Actual answer.

@Lunatic
Are you older than me or am I older than you? 2008 seems early.
I'm fairly positive I googled "online debate site". I'd been having arguments in the youtube comments section like a fucking weirdo.
I was an outdoorsy, townie kinda kid. Got expelled from school first time around. This might sound hard to believe, but I remember learning that "I've" was a contraction of "I have" on DDO. Like 19 years old probably. And I'd been writing it "I'v" until I did.
I grew so much as a person on DDO. I never really debated or anything, was always more about broad strokes I guess, but I found books, movies, animes, ideas. Not sure I would be the same person today otherwise.

@Athias
How so?
It seems to me that it's literally not to all be on the same page. That does not seem conducive to good discussion.
I think I'd prefer strict and principled modding.

That's such a nonsense response. Let me sit you down for 15 minutes and I'll get you up to speed with my 10 years in university studying this shit.
If the science is fake, it's fake. We'll know. We'll be told by the people that have a clue.

If it is fake science, it is fake science. We'll have scientists and other learned people to say so.

@3RU7AL
I don't even really want to argue this with you tbh. I have a lot of dumb friends who follow all sorts of stupid shit on Instagram and Facebook. I've had plumbers harassing me about spike proteins and whatever other shit as if either of us knows what the fuck any of this is. The point of the vaccine was twofold: to protect you from covid and to stop the spread of covid.
MANDATORY VACCINES FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN INFECTED (AND RECOVERED) FROM TEH COVIDZ IS IDIOTIC
Now I don't know much about this, but every fucking person should have gotten vaccinated. There was a whole world of scientists and regulatory bodies behind this thing. There might have been a billion years of education between them. But we're here dealing with clowns waving about random shit they found on Facebook, never read a book in their lives. Give me a break.

I do not see myself ever getting married tbh. I'm hoping to have kids by accident and that the girl is bearable lol.
I saw Athias post something about promiscuity fucking with the ability to pair bond the other day, and I am definitely too far gone.

The immigration stuff is the same way. People aren't just cogs in a machine, real cultural differences (IE actual human diversity) only comes through stability and separation.
I don't disagree with you. But I guess culture is a tougher sell when you're hungry. The Mexicans aren't coming over the wall just for fun.

My point is that authority figures who say “Listen to the science” are in danger of using a catchphrase in place of actual leadership. They are in danger of implying “Obey me without question because… science.”
They'll tyrannise us with right course of action then. If a thing is assailable, it's assailable.
We have a lot bigger and realer problems in science denial than dreams of tyrants you're having.
Created:

@cristo71
I'm not so sure you have a point. You made some little mention of ideological agenda and maybe the person isn't using the science properly. But what's your point? If scientists overwhelmingly agree that we should all get vaccinated, and of course neither you nor I is a virologist or chemist or whoever the fuck cooks this shit up, why shouldn't I say listen to the science? Scientists are effective leadership in things scientific. It's next to obey me, so what? They've got PhD's, they can speak authoritatively.

@Athias
- Is this technically feasible?
It should be very easy to implement. It's just a WHERE clause.
To those who bear objections to this proposal, I ask that they explain their objection as well as the reasons for it. It may also be useful if you make it a bit more clear your understanding of this proposal.
It sounds utterly dysfunctional. I guess depending on how much it's used, but it seems like it's making work in relating to people on this website. This is sitcom shit. "Can you please tell your father..." "Tell him your fucking self."

I’ve actually been trying to figure out now for a while what causes people to pick a specific “side” to begin with and I’ve pretty much got nothing, other than some inherent personality differences
I remember you told me a story once upon a time about your old neighbourhood being rolled over by an immigrant wave. I genuinely felt for you then and I think any politics that doesn't never knew a home itself. I think the right makes more sense than the left really. Some of it touches on racist sentiment, but why shouldn't it. It's a hyper-individualistic world. One side would make their politics around coddling some group of people. The other side knows nothing of this group, resents being made out the bad guy, sees gangster rap and gang violence. Politics of resentment, it makes sense. I'm not saying that's yours. Yours is definitely a fuller politics. But those are my ideas of the American right.
There's one part of the left then that's a politics of the plenty. I think you and Double_R are both good dudes. His politics wouldn't deprive anyone of anything he has. Yours knows it's not so simple as that. I would say that's the entire difference between you.
There's more of the left though. I really don't even know where to start haha. There's something suicidal there. I had ideas about it before, but I can't properly remember them. Maybe I'll come back to you.

The answer is a combination of site rankings, usership, etc: Chicken and the egg.But it’s the wrong question.
If edeb8 is appearing there, it's a freebie.
I arrived on DDO first day after googling something similar. People like to argue, they'll search it out. DDO had pretty considerable traffic and I don't remember much marketing.

I agree with Ramshutu. I come on here to read thett's and oro's and some choice few others' posts. The rest of these threads are an ugly bore.
@Ramshutu
You're a programmer, right? Why doesn't this site appear on google search? If you search "online debate website," DDO is there, Kialo is there, even edeb8 is there.

@Wylted
With how liberal European nations are, I just assumed it was a worse problem outside of the United States.
I'm suggesting that being a liberal country is less a factor than being a divided country. I think liberal countries will largely maintain a homogeneity despite politics if there's no real flexing of a political muscle in it.
Created:

So my idea is that a culture of politics plus some few real and contentious issues fosters in people a practised affront and which is then a doorway to all sorts of silly shit.
The issues then would be guns, healthcare, and black people generally. There's reasonable arguments and viewpoints around all that stuff, maybe.
But then you get this practised affront in people, and that's basically a golden ticket to believe whatever the fuck you want. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory shit. World of pure imagination.
And then you got dudes chopping off their dicks. People identifying as dolphins. Whatever other silly shit. I hold that America is the silliest nation in the entire world, and entirely down to culture of politics.
It's a Pandora's box kind of idea, I guess. What you guys think?

Funnily, I was reading through your posts recently and came upon a G.K. Chesterton essay. "With the red hair of one she-urchin in the gutter I will set fire to all modern civilization."
In contrast, Rand writes erotica around her "heroic man". I think, anyway.
