Grahf focuses his energy and lashes out against Offallia again and manages to secure a hit. While the blade is lodged into her flesh, he imbues it with divine energy, causing her to retch in pain.

[Melee Weapon Attack: d20 (19) + 6 = 25, Hit!]
[Longsword Damage: d10 (3) + 4 + 3d8 (7, 3, 2) = 7/2 = 3 slashing damage, 12 radiant damage]

While Offalia is distracted, Eikka adds onto Grahf's radiant strike with one of her own. The bolt looks like it was about to strike her, but at the last minute, Offalia dismisses it with the wave of a hand.

Ismark fires a bolt at Offalia. While it hits, it does not do much damage.

Morgantha snarls something in an unknown language at the dretch. She then moves where she can see Grahf and flings her hands outward. Grahf suddenly finds himself shrinking... shrinking... shrinking. And with a sudden desire to eat flies.

[Grahf Wisdom Save: d20 (4) + 2 = 6, Failed!]

The Dretch races up the stairs and then lunges at Eikka with claw and tooth, but cannot penetrate her armor.

Bella steps up and tries to grab hold of Grahfrog, but he slips out of her grasp.

Grumbling about stupid adventurers, Offallia hops off of the stairs and slinks behind her sisters.

With something in range to hit, Roberts slashes at it with sword and sword. He secures a powerful slash with his longsword, but misses with his short sword.

[Melee Weapon Attack: d20 (9) + 5 = 14, Hit!]
[Longsword Damage: d10 (8) + 3 = 11 slashing damage]
[Melee Weapon Attack: d20 (5) + 5 = 10, Miss!]

Luraxt unleashes her burning hands, angling it as to not harm her allies. Though the Dretch manages to dodge most of the blast, it is still significantly scorched.

The spell appears to have no effect on the hag and she hisses at him.

You'll have to do better than that, deary!

Hearing the commotion, Grahf rushes down stairs and comes up behind Offallia. He attempts to slash at her with his longsword, but it slides off of her thick, greasy skin.

[Melee Weapon Attack: d20 (10) + 6 = 16, Miss!]

Eikka follows behind Grahf. She is unable to get close enough to attack in melee, so instead flings an eldritch blast from over the railing.

[Ranged Spell Attack: d20 (20) + 3 = 23, Critical Hit!]
[Eldritch Blast Damage: 2d10 (5, 7) = 12 force damage]

Ireena opts to stay with the children as Ismark goes down with the group. He leans over the railing and fires a crossbow bolt at Offalia, but it misses.

Morgantha steps forward to the barrel with the thick ooze. She raps on the side of the barrel. Bubbles pour up from the surface and out crawls what appears to be some sort of demonic pig-dog.

Bella closes her eyes and begins to concentrate. When she opens her eyes again, they are pitch black. She peers at Snerp with her eerie eyes. Sleep, little gnome, and I'll play all the tag you can handle. Snerp finds himself overcome with sleep, and slumps to the ground.

[Wisdom Save (with advantage): d20 (6, 14) = 14, Failed!]

Offalia spins and faces Grahf. Ooh, lookie at this one. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside? She rakes her gnarled claws across Grahf's hide, but leaves no lasting marks.

Roberts joins the group. Unable to get in melee range, he flings several magical missiles at Offalia.

[Magic Missile Damage: d4+1 = 5x3 = 15 force damage]

Luraxt also runs down, but can't get in range or sight of anyone.

(As of combat start, no one other than Snerp knows that anything is going on. So Roberts and Luraxt will really have nothing to do. Once Snerp acts, he will probably do something that alerts everyone else that there is trouble.

Also, check out the combat map. Except for Snerp, you're all on a different floor. So even if you're aware of what's going on, you actually have to go there to do something. You can't see or attack them from where you're at.

Eikka climbs up the ladder and passes through the trap door. You've reached the windmill's peak -- a domed chamber filled with old machinery. There's not much room to move around. Light slips into this attic through small holes in the walls.

Snerp heads down each floor successively, searching for traps or any other secrets. He finds nothing new on the third or second floors. He also thoroughly searches the first floor. The barrel holds glistening, greenish-black ichor. The cabinets contain bowls of herbs and cooking ingredients (flour, sugar, and another powdery substance). On the inside of the door are a dozen locks of hair. He also finds three small, labeled containers labeled: "Youth", "Laughter", "and "Mother's Milk." The chicken coop has three chickens, a rooster, and some eggs. The wooden trunk has tiny holes bored into its lid and has several hundred croaking toads. The stove contains pastries being cooked.

Finding no secrets, Snerp begins to return to the group when, suddenly, three disgusting looking hags suddenly appear -- as if out of thin air!

The bones are in fragments, bits and pieces as a result of the grinding process. The cabinets and chest on the third floor contain nothing, but Roberts finds six pieces of jewelry hidden in the mattress.

Earth lets the boy and girl free. The huddle in the corner. Are you going to eat us, Mr. Monster?

Floor 3

In a rotting wooden closet are three crates, stacked one atop another, with small doors set into them. Next to the closet is a heap of discarded clothing. A ladder climbs to a wooden trapdoor in the nine-foot-high ceiling. A moldy bed with a tattered canopy stands nearby.

The whimpering is coming from the crates.

Floor 2:

The floor is covered with old bones and white dust. The dirt-caked windows allow very little light to enter this eight-foot-high chamber, most of which is taken up by a large millstone connected to a wooden gear shaft that rises through the ceiling in the center of the room. A stone staircase continues up, toward the sound of whimpering.

The ground floor has been converted into a makeshiftkitchen, but the room is filthy. Baskets and old dishwareare piled everywhere. Adding to the clutter is a peddler'scart, a chicken coop, a heavy wooden trunk, and apretty wooden cabinet with flowers painted on its doors.In addition to the clucking of the chickens, you heartoads croaking.The sweet smell of pastries blends horridly with astench that burns your nostrils. The awful odor comesout of an open, upright barrel in the center of the room.Warmth issues from a brick oven against one wall, anda crumbling staircase ascends the wall across from it.

The group finds a nearby tree to hitch their horses.

Ismark: I will stay here with Ireena. From your description, this is likely to be a dangerous encounter and I am not going to put Ireena into unnecessary harm, and will not leave her out here by herself; This would be a perfect distraction for Strahd to come and steal her away.

The group cautiously approaches the windmill.

This onion-domed edifice leans forward and to one side, as though trying to turn away from the storm gray sky. You see gray brick walls and dirt-covered windows in the upper floors. A decrepit wooden platform encircles the windmill above a flimsy doorway leading to the building's interior. Perched on a wooden beam above the door is a raven. It ops about and squawks at you, seemingly agitated.

Behind the windmill is the forest, at the edge of which is a ring of four squat megaliths. Crows can be seen circling around the stones.

Ireena sighs: It's something Donavich told me before we left the church. He told me that Kolyan wasn't really my father. He said when I was very young, they found me on the outskirts of the woods at the foot of the pillars of Ravenloft. I had no idea where I had come from and didn't even know who I was. Kolyan adopted and raised me as a daughter, but never told me the truth.

Ismark is suprised by the revelation and puts a hand on Ireena's shoulder. I never knew and as far as I'm concerned you are my sister and I will protect you from Strahd or die trying.

As they chat, they continue along the winding road. The Old Svalich Road transitions here from being awinding path through the Balinok Mountains to a lazytrail that hugs the mountainside as it descends into the fog-filled valley. In the heart of the valley you see a walledtown near the shores of a great mountain lake, its watersdark and still. A branch in the road leads west to a promontory,atop which is perched a dilapidated stone windmill,its warped wooden vanes stripped bare.

On their horses, the party makes there way down the Old Svalich Road.

You follow the dirt road as it clings to the side of a mountain and ends before an arching bridge of mold encrusted stone that spans a natural chasm. Gargoyles cloaked in black moss perch on the corners of the bridge, their frowns weather worn. On the mountainous side of the bridge, a waterfall spills into a misty pool nearly a thousand feet below. The pool feeds a river that meanders into the fog-shrouded pines that blanket the valley.

Next to the pool, down far below, you see the Vistani encampment you left. The party pauses to briefly take in the view before continuing on...

Even here, in the mountains, the forest and the fog are inescapable. Ahead, the dirt road splits in two, widening toward the east toward Ravenloft. There you see patches of cobblestone, suggesting that the eastern branch was once an important thoroughfare. The western branch continues into the heart of the valley.
