Xenophobia exists yes, but that is no reason to give other people's money away. Russians should have Russian money. Angolans should have 1st dibs on Angolans money. Why not?

If I were president of a country, not one red cent of my country would be given to any non-citizen as long as a citizen needed money. We (the US) give millions to foreigners while little American girls die in hospitals for lack of medical care funds. That is so wrong it is obscene.

We should not bribe any country. We don't need to. We owe them nothing. When America's money has been spent on Americans, and we have some left over, sure, give it to the foreign needy, but not until Betty-Sue is healthy, secure, and happy.

Neither of our opinions matter. Only the mods and the owner.

I have objective evidence that Max, and by default bsh1, would not have banned any of the people Mike did. Max did not even have a problem with hari. If that is what bsh1 means by laissez-faire, he's going to have to exercise his mod powers on me.

Max did not even enforce ToS. If that is what Mike wants here, that is his prerogative, but I think this time I will leave before going through another DDO. Why anyone would think "hands off" was a good way to mod after the clear example on DDO is beyond me.

Mods are not supposed to "juggle" members ideas of what an ideal Mod should be. He should mod regardless of those subjective ideas.

But everyone is innocent until proven guilty, so we'll see.

Thank you.
You're welcome.

It is interesting how your idea of an ideal mod contrasts with Smithers.
Yes. He believes a mod should do nothing, like AirMax, and as I fear, you do too.

What is interesting is how your idea of an ideal mod seems contrasts with Mike right now. I am betting against me, and hoping I am wrong about you.

I like Mike, so I will assume he made an informed choice. And if you make me eat crow, I will eat it gladly.

I wanted and asked for no bans on DDO. Not even for hari. Your info is faulty.

I want moderation, not bans. Bans are only a small part of moderation.

Finally, there is not only laissez-faire moderation style and too strict. Those are not the only 2 options, and I cannot see why people pretend as if it is either or.

Jesus told a few lies.....
It is impossible for God to lie.

...and it depends on what and whose "truth" sounds more truthful.
Jesus' truth sounds most truthful to me.

As Pontius Pilate said- "what is truth".
And Jesus said, I am the Truth.

I think I'll stick with Jesus, thank you. He is more than all the truth I need.

Sometimes I wonder if even deb knows what his problem is. It has something to do with religious groups, but what exactly seems to be a mystery, even to deb.

What is it that decides what a person's obsession will fall on? Is joining or being in a religious group not really obscure to be the subject of a consuming obsession?

It takes all types.

The fact is that they have given the American people nothing to vote for.

Examine closely the things they say and the contradictions pop up.

Republicans are old
Republicans want to cut social security

Republicans are religious
Republicans have no morality

Republicans pander to their base
Republicans pander to corporations

Republicans are populists
Republicans divide the population

They will lose again.

While I am glad we finally have mods, I am disappointed in bsh1. Not that he isn't an intelligent fair person, but because he was too much an AirMax man. All indications are that he will be just as much of a non-mod as AirMax was.

For example, I don't think he would have banned Z, Willows, Lunatic or hari the way Mike did. Basically, we have AirMax in all but every thing but the name. And that is the first step to sharing DDO's history.

With Mike knowing all this and still making him top mod does not fill me with faith. Let me be clear, I don't dislike bsh1, or think he will be deliberately unconcerned, he just is an apprentice of AirMax and sees AirMax's ennui as the proper way to mod. That is how he was thought.

Ok, now that I've alienated both mods, I will give bsh1 a chance. Clean slate and all that.

I hope both mods much success and little drama.

Talking to God

@Castin
    --> @ethang5
Does God respond in words?
That I hear in the air? No. But sometimes, say, as the voice of my mother? Yes.
To clarify, I'm not asking theists if you hear words out loud exclusively. They can be in your mind. Or I suppose they can even be words in a book, song, or movie it feels like God is drawing your attention to at the right time.

Do you mean God sometimes speaks in your mind with your mother's voice?
No. Like I pray to know which job offer is His choice and my mom tells me a story about my first "job" at 4 years old that makes God's answer clear.

Is it just a feeling or emotion, like a wordless sense of wellbeing or reassurance?
Yes, but not always. Sometimes He isn't pleased, and you can feel the distance and displeasure between you.
Sounds ominous.
As it should sound. It is a serious thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.

Like a rumble-of-thunder moment. Do you know immediately when you're doing something that displeases him?
Yes. Most times, before I do it.

To ask a further question, how complex can God's messages be while still remaining understandable to the human mind?
Far more complex than human language can be. Often times I find that He has answered questions I have not asked yet, or has already answered a question whose answer I am waiting for. Often, by His answers, you see how small and short sighted your questions were.

Suppose I am a god and I want to give some very personal guidance to one of my children. For instance, I want to say, "Laura, you must stop choosing men who treat you as poorly as your father did. You have the strength to break out of this cycle of self-abuse. Value and respect yourself. Don't be afraid to live independently of a controlling possessive partner. Stop defining okay and not okay by whether an abuser in your life is placated or angered. Take the new job offer, move out of Rick's apartment, and do not thrust a bad father upon your future children. I believe in you, I love you" etc.

Does God send messages this full or detailed?
Sure. But you're still thinking of God as if He is a life coach. God attacks the problem and not the symptoms. Laura's problem is not daddy issues or self-confidence. Her problem is that she doesn't know who she is. And she doesn't know who she is because she doesn't know who Jesus is. One good look at herself in the glorious light of her creator and her daddy issues and confidence problems would fall away.

This doesn't seem like something that can be expressed with a wordless divine feeling.
Because today, your exposure to Jesus and Christianity is mediated by hollywood, by people who don't know Him, and in fact hate Him.

Or would God not send a message like this because it's simply too heavy-handed?
It was kinda cheezy and family hallmark movie of the week, but I got your drift.

Is any sufficiently complex message something God would rather you realize for yourself?
I don't think complexity is an issue for a God who had His salvation plan completed 2,000 years ago. If it takes 10 years, God will patiently work with you on it.

If so, how do you overcome it?
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing come by the word of God.
What do you mean? By reading the Bible? Or listening to the gospel preached?
It is Romans 10.17. It means knowing the word of God. In Luke 17.5,  the apostles asked Jesus how to increase their faith. Observe Jesus's answer. I bet you've never heard an answer like that to such a question.

Is there a quality to "God's voice" that is immediately and fundamentally distinct from your own inner voice, so that you can always tell when it's supposedly God and when it's just your own mind?
Yes, but you must learn to recognize it, because your voice and God's voice are not the only voices in you vying for attention.
Are you referring to the Adversary?
Yes, but not only him. Satan is blamed for far more than he does. There is a part of me that wishes to rebel and oppose God.

Rom 7:19 - For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

Rom 7:20 - Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

Rom 7:21 - I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

Rom 7:22 - For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.

Rom 7:23 - But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Jesus saves us first from ourselves.

Nothing I can explain.
...followed by a lot of explanation.

You had no questions. You had no answers. But you felt your 2 cents was worthy. Thanks.

@Castin
Do you talk to God?
Yes.

What's this experience like?
Nothing I can explain.

Is it one-way, where you're sending God prayers, or does God ever touch your mind in response?
Sometimes it is one way. Sometimes He does touch my mind (soul) in response.

If there is a response, what is it like?
Different things at different times, but always divine.

Does God respond in words?
That I hear in the air? No. But sometimes, say, as the voice of my mother? Yes.

Is it just a feeling or emotion, like a wordless sense of wellbeing or reassurance?
Yes, but not always. Sometimes He isn't pleased, and you can feel the distance and displeasure between you.

Is there ever a doubting part of you that whispers that you're just talking to yourself?
When I was a baby Christian before I learned to recognize and trust His voice.

If so, how do you overcome it?
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing come by the word of God.

Is there a quality to "God's voice" that is immediately and fundamentally distinct from your own inner voice, so that you can always tell when it's supposedly God and when it's just your own mind?

Right, and I'm saying that even the initial cost is a barrier to implementation. That's why we "can't" have it.
Doesn't track D-man. If new schools can be built with separate bathrooms for boys and girls, new ones can be built unisex as that would cost less.

The cost is not the issue. Human nature is.

Both of you are correct. But you are talking about doing exactly the same thing as we are doing now, only with the country's wealth distributed evenly among its citizens.

That.is.not.what.I'm.talking.about.

Aint nothing free in this world. Someone always pays for what you think is free.
So true. But if I gave you 80 IOU's for your goat, nether the IOU's or the goat were "free". All we did was shuffle value around. You still have a goat, only now in the form of 80 IOU's and I still have 80 IOU's, only now in the form of a goat. No freebies ware given or taken.

Scrap all welfare and food stamp programs.
In my scenario, it is imperative that we do not disturb the existing financial structure. We do not scrap welfare, we do not make the million dollar IOU represent any of the country's wealth.

That is not what "tied to" means.
If that is not what you mean by "tied to," then I have no idea what you mean,
I've been trying to tell you that for several posts now. I do not wish to be rude but I can't keep addressing your inability to understand.

...because that is the only way that money is tied to wealth
No, it isn't the only way. But we are talking about money NOT tied to wealth.

If you mean something different, you have yet to define it.
You just don't know what "tied to" means. Here it means "represents". If, for example, the wealth of america is 100 units, (GDP) and the govt issues 50 one dollar notes, each note will  represents 2 units of that wealth. If the govt issues 50 more one dollar notes, the money depreciates because each dollar will now be worth only 1 unit of that wealth. This is all true, but true only because those dollars represent fixed wealth. If the country was to increase it's wealth (GDP), to say 200 units, those 100 dollars would again appreciate to represent 2 units of that wealth again.

That.is.not.what.I'm.talking.about.

Is it an economic law that increasing the price of a product will cause a fall in demand?
Sure. All other things being equal, higher price results in less quantity being demanded.
No. Not for some things. Does this mean the law is broken or that the law isn't a neat little bow all either black or white?

I'm not saying that economic laws are simple, only that they exist.
You are saying human nature is simple. We agree that economic law exists. You just apply it to things it doesn't apply to.

And there are other factors besides economics that play a role in people's behavior.
Thank you!

But if you think the large-scale effect of introducing IOU'`s with the value of 10 times the current money supply cannot be predicted with some accuracy by economic theory, then you are mistaken.
I do not think it cannot be predicted with some accuracy, but I know economic theory has to be applied correctly, and I know economic theories are not physical laws.

So if supply and demand stopped working, that would not be a reflection of a fundamental change in human nature.
Why would supply and demand stop working? Sorry, I think we've reached an impasse. I think I'll thank you for a hearty and civil discussion and bow out.

Neither do we. Did you think we were advocating it?

Not if you consider the savings in cleaning staff and materials, and space and water usage, and security. No one meant it would be free, but would cost less.

Universally? No.
But sometimes yes? Glad to you you confident enough make such decisions for others.

I had no reason to assume you would actually answer him.

I would.
OK. But then it makes it even more curious that you didn't.

Your disagreement with my answer is immaterial to the question.
You son asked why. You did not tell him why. That is fine, but you cannot pretend it answered his question. So you are right, regardless of any "disagreement" of mine, you did not answer the question. You responded to it, but did not answer it.

Your son will grow and answer the question for himself.

Actually the purpose of my excercise is to demonstrate that inflation is imaginary. If you have both systems going, normal money and this digital IOU's, it becomes clear that inflation need not be, because money need not be tied to anything.

Bitcoin could do this, but was limited because the authorities would have shut it down had it tried to.

The girl's virginity is tied to the wealth of America by her and the man's act of placing a dollar value on it .
That is not what "tied to" means.

They are both agreeing that her virginity is worth X dollars of goods and services.
That doesn't mean her virginity becomes part of the wealth of America. It doesn't increase the supply of virginity or reduce the demand for virgins.

Economic laws are descriptions of human behavior...
That definition of "Economic Law" is narrow enough to be incorrect.

But do you really want to advocate for a policy that assumes human nature will change?
You are confusing your misunderstanding with my argument.

That is what it would take for economic laws to cease operating.
Economic laws would not cease to operate, you just  incorrectly think economic laws are like physical laws.

I see economic laws as reflection of human nature.
You are incorrect. Tell me, Is it an economic law that increasing the price of a product will cause a fall in demand?

Human nature cannot be summed up in a neat little law, and we have suffered through economic depressions and collapses thinking that it could.

Breaking them requires human nature to change.
Untrue. Breaking them does nothing to human nature. You think this only because you have "tied" them together in your mind. They do not describe how things are, but how things can be.

We will have to agree to disagree.

In your opinion, what does money represent?
It can represent all the wealth of a group like a country or countries, it can represent a single thing like gold, or fish, on a tiny island nation, or it could represent itself, as in, the value it "represents" rests within the "money" itself. As in the days of gold coins.

Now we have digital money that represent nothing at all except what people THINK. It has no inherent value. It is not divisional units of any wealth anywhere. Tomorrow it could be worthless based solely on what people think.

Inflation is real the way a human perception is real. It is real only because we think its real. It is not real the same way gravity is real.

This fact allows me to see that we are not as restricted by economic "laws" as most believe we are.

Though the title of the thread is ending poverty, that is not aim. Poverty itself is just like inflation, it exists only in the human mind. It does not need to exist. It isn't a physical law.

How can something be exchangeable for some of those goods and services, yet not be tied to them in any way?
If both parties feel that thing has value. So a Chinese girl may "sell" her virginity for dollars. How is her virginity "tied" to the wealth of America? It isn't. People (some men) just believe it has value.

And this is the point on which my argument is understood. We have economic laws, but they are not like the laws of physics. They do not describe how things are, but how things can be. They are made by man and are not irrefutable. Physical laws are discovered, not decreed.

But if you are unable to see that, of course you will treat economic "laws" as if they are phsycal laws, and few breaking them as you would view breaking physical laws.

Sometimes education itself can be a roadblock to more education.

For those of us there long enough, DDO was once an awesome place. The communities, the banter, the healthy competition left you feeling involved, excited, and part of something.

It is sad now that some of the very people who contributed to it's demise, will now pontificate about what killed it, as if they share no blame for its sad state today.

I'm glad for the new opportunity. I only wish Mike had been a member longer so he would have a more complete grasp of where we went wrong, so he could build in safeguards now against those things.

I do wish DDO well. And the best to AirMax. And to those members who decided to stay, a working site one day. But as for me and my house, we will serve Dart.
