I'm 100% in favor of brainstorming moderate solutions to gun violence. Brainstorming makes a good forum topic but a terrible debate subject. Good brainstorming evaluates even half-formed or stupid ideas for potential solutions. Good debates do the opposite- delegitimizing any ideas not already well supported.

You concede that Trump was a racist in many prior circumstances but insist that your opponent establish that Trump is racist today. So if Trump tweets out another Trail of Tears joke or calls Warren Pocahantas today, will you just wait until early tomorrow to declare Trump's slate clean? Your hedged approach to the subject suggests to me that you also believe Trump is racist: change my mind, racist today, BoP on Con. If you believe that Trump that is not racist and have good arguments to defend that position, I would encourage you to make a debate that asserts just that: Trump is not a racist, here is my proof- let's see how Con disputes my position. I think you will find more takers for that debate because I think that would be a very difficult debate to win.

I'm usually more interested in strategy than tactics or equipment. I've been thinking about something along the lines of "Hannibal lost the Second Punic War at Cannae" kind of topic.
I like this topic because it has to do with public policy and is a subject I've never really researched. I bet the questions involved in fighter jet design and engineering are fascinating. If I was debating this, however, I'd be tempted to go after the weakness of "better than." Better for who? Not better for ISIS fighters or Yemeni villagers. And aren't we comparing apples and oranges? The F-35 is an air/ground attack vehicle, the F-22 is an air/air attack vehicle. The F-22 is designed to beat a plane like the F-35.
