Why the poor will always be with us.
-->
@Greyparrot
People are poor relative to circumstance, inheritance and innate incapability.

Poor should not just be regarded as a lack of money.

If we were a truly considerate species, we would strive to eliminate greed, rather than half heartedly attempt to eliminate poverty.

Eliminate greed and you would eliminate poverty.

Though I would suggest that greed is perhaps the necessity of evolution, and that in the bigger scheme of things, "the poor" do not  warrant concern.

Hence we are not instinctively altruistic, for a reason.

LOL.

How big is a buffer zone Doc?

Russia is the largest country in the World.

Don't they have enough room, to be able to create their own buffer zone?

Why do they need a bit of the Ukraine?

Where will they want a bit of next?

You heard the Russian buzz phrase "buffer zone" on TV, didn't you?

You old commie Doc.

And atheism is not a belief system.

Atheists do not except the existence of a GOD or any GOD, that cannot be unequivocally be shown to exist.

Therefore the concept of belief is irrelevant to an Atheist.

Whereas brainwashed theists, have to rely upon belief, because they have nothing else, other than old stories written by their naive ancestors.

@sadolite
See above.

Your getting older, set in your ways and are fearful and reluctant to accept change.....That's typical behaviour.

Or perhaps you think that we should still all be riding horses.

Now, the biggest change in our lifetimes was the advent of the technological age.....So did you resist this in favour of the Pony Express.

I expect not, because you were younger and more able to mentally cope with the change.

But now it's........ Electric cars?........ How preposterous, what ever next?......A gas guzzling truck never did me any harm.

And we will die very soon, and another bunch of non achievers that failed to  make it into the planning elite, will stand on the side-lines of evolution and whinge about change.

And the planners will plan and will continue to plan and in a relatively short period of time, everything will have changed beyond all recognition.

So you are in effect advocating anarchy again.

The thing is, that without planning and planners we would still be living in caves, fearful of every thing that moved.

Planning and planners is how human society has evolved.

And you're either a planner or not.

And if you're not a planner, then that's your fault and not the fault of the planners.

So you just become one of the millions that whinges from the side lines and always think that they could have done better.

#50

Not that you necessarily know how to debate decently Poly.

Sort of the pot calling the kettle black.

Because you are currently the single most abusive person in the forum.

You don't want to discuss decently, because discussing decently means engaging with people who might disagree with you.

And you will not tolerate people who might disagree with your unconventionality.

Fortunately their are a lot of active, decent, tolerant and less abusive forum users.

@oromagi
I agree.

But such is a Russian desire for power, not tempered with Western sensibility. Which doesn't necessarily mean that from a Russian perspective Putin's intentions weren't initially good.

We look at it from a completely different social view point, with little or no understanding of Russian society and how it impacts upon the necessities of government.

And for sure the older Putin has become a typical Russian megalomaniacal despot.

The good thing is, he doesn't look such a well man theses days. So we await his successor with anxious glee.

Love your prose.

The variable syntax, reminds me very much of someone else, but I can't remember their username.

Jaisha might suggest a female or a drag artist, perhaps from India.

Or it could all be an elaborate ruse.

Either way, it introduces a bit of temporary frisson to a fairly mundane Debateart.

Just done some scrolling, and it was Utanity that I was reminded of.

Nope.

The battery is just the container.

This is a fact not a feeling.

When the chemical energy held within the battery is exhausted, it ceases to produce electrical energy.

The battery remains intact.

And in certain circumstances can be recharged.

Not sure what paedophilia has to do with being an atheist.

In fact if anywhere, paedophilia is more associated with repressed theists, rather than open minded atheists.

And furthermore, such defamatory accusations need to be backed up with hard fact Poly, or one might find oneself with a hefty lawsuit pending.

So best not put any names to your salacious jibes and insinuations Poly.

Your extremely abusive attitude is also noted.

So, you have an atypical approach to theism and are surprised and annoyed when this is challenged within a discussion forum.

You also clearly have a  preconditioned negative response to the idea of atheism and those that question theism.

Considering such intolerance, it's no wonder that one might also consider how such conditioned negativity might manifest within your personal sphere of engagements.

Nonetheless, one apologizes for the somewhat jocular way of bringing such concerns into the forum.

How about encouraging people to not pointlessly drive about all day.

Watch cars on the highway, and you will see a string of five seaters all with just one person in them.

People always want to be somewhere other than where they are.

Maybe it's just a response to the old hunter gathering instinct.

Interestingly, prior to just 137 years ago, as a species we managed quite well without cars.

in fact, I can't think of any other species that is reliant upon motor transport.

In an evolutionary context, perhaps it would be more prudent to start discouraging the unnecessary, and concentrate more on the necessary.

Ah!....But the motor industry.

Normal People?

@Poly

As Yas suggests, most people "barely care" about politics....Other than blaming politicians for everything that is seemingly difficult.

Just like most of the time, most people barely "care about" religion.

All that politics and religion are, is intermittent brain activity squeezed in between all the mundane day to day survival stuff.

What generally constitutes most  "Normal People", are one's with a head, with two arms, two legs, and all internal systems functioning reasonably appropriately.

Obviously exceptions apply, but these are not most people.

Of course, a debate website will attract certain people, who are interested in airing their intermittent brain activities amongst fellow similarly interested parties.

Hence a concentration of politically and religiously dedicated brain activity.

So who want's to talk fluffy kittens then?

SOOOO.

The instinctive need is to reproduce.

But we soon learned that sexual stimulation was both physically pleasant and mentally rewarding.

And we also learned that there is more than one way to achieve sexual satisfaction.

Worrying about how we and others achieve sexual satisfaction is just an associated hang up, relative to another set of contrived and inherited data.

Stuff like GODS and social morality.

I always think that it's more perverse to continually worry and think about what other people get up to.

And the more moral and righteous someone becomes the more perverse their fascination with other peoples sex lives becomes.

And the more sexually repressed they become, the more perverse they become.

Devout Roman Catholics for example.

Choir Boys a go go, as it were.

World population 7.9 billion and counting, so currently nothing to really worry about.

So stop worrying about all those blokes living together and adopting puppies.

And all those butch women with short hair and trousers.

DINKIES are good for the economy.

All that you need worry about is Mrs Sadolite and the young Sadolites.....(Assumption)

What constitutes an organized religion.

No.

Organised is organised as opposed to not organised.

One could argue that everything has to be organised, or is organised to some degree.

All religions must have been organised to a certain degree.

I think that a better topic for discussion would perhaps be:

In terms of it's organisation, what constitutes a sensible religion.

Of course, the answer would always be the same.

There is no such thing as a sensible religion, despite the complexity or simplicity of it's organisation.

There is instinctive behaviour,

And then there is acquired behaviour.

And then there is the Egg producer, female.

And the sperm producer, male.

And then there is a conceptually inspired society, that enjoys recreational sex a lot.

And todays societies (not all) have acquired a tendency to regulate child output, and concentrate more on recreational sex.

And people have come to realise that recreational sex does not have limited options.

In fact they realised this a long time ago.

Hang ups, just like everything else are simply transferred and acquired information.

And sexual pleasure is a consequence of evolution.

As all good Jews should know.

The Tetraktys, is an ancient symbol that links Heaven and Earth.

As I'm sure that said trucker, just like the Nazis, was trying to point this out.

The Third Reich's adoption of the Tetraktys, (albeit at a jaunty angle) had a specific meaning and context.

It was in fact the Allies who promoted a negative attitude towards the symbol.

As descendants of the Allies still continue to do.

Vilification of the trashcan, could be regarded as blasphemy against the King of Heaven.....(Purely speculative).

What is your definition of  "Normal People" ?

There are currently,

Approximately 7.9 billion physically similar individuals,

With 7.9 billion different  versions of similar data stored within their organic databases.

I would say that this is about as normal as people are going to get.

Left and Right is just something that interested parties ramble on about from time to time.

In reality, and for most people there is either a tough existence, or a relatively easier existence.

I do not believe anything that cannot be unequivocally proven.

Though, if something can be unequivocally proven, then belief is unnecessary.

So as far as I am concerned, any theist who says that they believe, is actually saying that they cannot unequivocally prove the basis of their belief.

Belief:

1. An acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.

Synonyms.....guess . speculation . surmise . fancy . notion . suspicion . presumption . assumption . theory . hypothesis . postulation . inference . extrapolation . projection . approximation . rough calculation . rough idea . guesswork . guessing . surmising . imagining . theorizing.

Exactly my dilemma.

We think and we assume.

And rigged up to a monitor, a real time electro-chemical process relative to a given thought could probably be detected.

So we could easily prove that the process is existent.

Though whether the relative internal image or narrative is existent separate from the process is less certain.

And for sure I think that an imagination is a thought process, variously defined.

Basically just internal data processing.

In fact sitting here typing this text, I seemingly, simultaneously think, imagine and type.

The bible probably contains some facts, therefore some truth.

The bible probably contains some fantasy, therefore some make believe.

Thereby we end up with a mythological basis for both a naive creation hypothesis, and a socio-political mandate.

And devolved religions and religious books are just more of the same.

There are other books available now, perhaps harder for the average citizen to understand, but nonetheless more pertinent to understanding  universal truth.

Though repressive politically motivated data transfer regimes are keen to hang onto the old guff.

And the there's Poly.

Well.

In so much as we think therefore we are,

Imagination is an internal electrochemical thought process that occurs.

And thus we might conclude that to imagine, is a logically and physically consistent process.

Though whether or not, the illusory outcome of this occurring process is existent, is perhaps one for the semanticists to argue over.
