Notwithstanding exaggeration.

Moon cycles is probably best bet.....Especially before the movements of the Earth relative to the Sun became an accepted fact.

That would put old Thusey in his seventies.....Probably a ripe old age for the time.

Women when they get beaten
Physical abuse and reprimand is an inherent and perhaps inherited modus operandi....Supposedly outdated....But seemingly unoutdateable.

Depending upon context, we are all, both enthralled by aggression and it's consequences, or appalled by it.

Our interpretations and opinions thereof,  can therefore have a tendency to be contradictory.

Philosophy is science is chemistry is an omelette..

Acquire, store, manipulate data, output and evolve.

Season well.

And a soul might be something or nothing at all.

Human essence, perhaps.

Interesting how  both you and Theweakerone, were not able to cope with my input into that thread.

RELIGION POLL #1: Resurrection
-->
@Polytheist-Witch
Myth is naive hypothesis.

"A story that can't be proven" in other words......People and places are usually taken from reality, but the introduction of super-nature does limit a stories chances of ever being proven, wholly correct.

A soul, as an independent entity, is also a myth........And also reliant upon super-nature.

Nonetheless....The soul as a physiological component, is perhaps it's own metaphor.

On a phenomenalness scale of 1 to 10.

Where does "fucking  phenomenal" come in relation to just plain old phenomenal?

1. Slightly phenomenal
2. Reasonably phenomenal
3. Nicely phenomenal
4. Phenomenal
5. Marvellously phenomenal
6. Supremely phenomenal
7. Erotically phenomenal
8. Fucking phenomenal
9. Rapturously phenomenal
10. Orgasmically phenomenal

Free will depends upon determinism
-->
@Sum1hugme
Choice is about as good as it gets.

Nonetheless.
One is either determined to make a choice or deliberately makes a choice.....Is that free will?
One never randomly chooses, as choice is by definition not random, but optional.

Even instinct is inherited.

Nonetheless.
The independent mass, is.
And it could be said that free will is directly relative to it's independence, rather than to its inherited functionality.

How do you quantify "indirectly".

I would suggest that evolution is development, and it's properties emerge directly, even if causation is random rather than predestined.

Is the claim that we have no free agency a cop-out?
-->
@fauxlaw
So how do you overcome the something from nothing principle?

A theist/deist will often just say, because a GOD is eternal.....Which really is, just avoiding a pertinent question that doesn't have an answer.

One might just as well say therefore, that everything is eternal...... And not bother with the GOD bit.....Still avoiding a pertinent question without an answer.

Though, A GOD principle (not to be confused with a deity) is either nothing or something, and also something from nothing, and perhaps also sequentially something.

But is there a satisfactory answer to the pertinent question?

I suppose that it could be said, that everything is an emergent property of evolution.

And belief is a deceptive and often a glibly used word.....Belief is based either, upon  an assumption, a lie, or certainty of fact.....Though if it is the latter then it ceases to be a belief.

Nonetheless, one does propose, rather than believe,  that evolution is an emergent property of a GOD principle, and a GOD principle is an emergent property of evolution.

And isms are/ were popular philosophical suffixes.....And achieve interesting intellectual discussion, but very little else.

Ismism if you like.

Well...Blasphemy is  obviously in a dictionary, and is as defined.

So I'm not sure at all, if blasphemy is necessarily, necessary or relevant when considering evolution.

And evolution being theoretical (just like religion), clearly allows for a variation in appreciation and interpretation.

And may I say that your own quaintness, is a welcome addition to Debateart.

@RatMan

No one is actually a "Flat Earther".....Everyone knows that the Earth is spheroid.

Some people pretend to be different.....And there's nothing wrong with a bit of harmless pretence.

It's when we stone people on the basis of pretence....That we should start to worry.

And make a relevant map, and Cube Earth would be ok..

And what does the underside of the disc look like?

And if one flew across the underside, would one be upside down or the right way up?

And how deep are the sides of the disc?

And how deep can the sides of the disc be, before it cedes to cylindricity?

And who controls the light switch.....LOL.

What say you Ratty?    (Wind in the Willows).

@fauxlaw
Yep...I get that.

Not a million miles away from what I refer to as the universal sequence....Whereby the GOD principle is that which re-establishes or reinitiates the infinite possibility of matter and existence.

But ultimate knowledge and material development, rather than a floaty about bloke.

Worship seemingly necessary though, as a means of moving knowledge forwards.

And us...No more or less the matter of the universe that we developed from.... Here to further the purpose and development of matter, to re-establish the GOD principle and reinitiate the sequence.

So do you think that there never was a beginning and never will be an end?

My assertion, was your obvious contradiction.

So, I don't need to substantiate my assertion.

As your obvious contradiction, obviously substantiates my assertion.

It's obviously there to substantiate, in black and white.

And rather than conflate, I was merely pointing out that G was (and still is in fact), vilified in just the same way as P.......Perhaps you're to young to remember.... Though a learned person should be aware of these facts.

I would suggest that your daughters ongoing behaviour was to a greater extent, dictated by the factors I cited above.

@RatMan.

"Fubnily enough"

People did once believe that the Earth was a flat disc.

But people did eventually work out, that the Earth was in fact  a spheroid.

Just liked sensible people, also worked out, that the Arabian Tales were a naive and illogical creation hypothesis.

Just like people have worked out and done all sorts of other things, that were never mentioned in Tales from Arabia.

What is real money?

Isn't money just a representation of something that eventually manifests as a reality.

No money, represents an inability to buy food, which eventually manifests as the reality of hunger.

Money represents greed, which eventually might manifest as the reality of a triple heart bypass.

We are also somewhat ordered by evolution, and conditioned by the past and limited by our physiology. So whether or not, we ever have total freedom of choice is debateable.

Yes, sexual expression is a choice, but it's also freedom.

So why are you not prepared to bestow choice and freedom upon Mr or Mrs P.

Selective morality relative to social trends and pressures, that's why......Exactly the same way that we used to treat Mr and Mrs LGBT.

But of course LGBT is now bang on trend, and social pressures have somewhat reversed.

Such is the fickle nature of humanity.
