Thanks, ramdatt!

THBT: IF YOU WANT CONSTRUCTIVE INFORMATION on the CORONAVIRUS, LISTEN to ANDREW CUOMO

PRO has forfeited the opening round, forcing CON to define the terms of this debate

DEFINITIONS:

IF is "the most useless word in any language"

YOU is "the challenger for this debate- me, OROMAGI"

WANT [verb] is "to wish for or desire (something); to feel a need or desire for; to crave or demand"

CONSTRUCTIVE [adjective] is "relating to construction"

INFORMATION [noun] is "things that are or can be known about a given topic; communicable knowledge of something"

CORONAVIRUS [noun] is "a member of the family Coronaviridaews, comprising viruses which infect animals and human beings, and the genome of which consists of a single strand of RNA"

LISTEN [verb] is "to pay attention to a sound or speech"

ANDREW CUOMO (born December 6, 1957) is "an American politician, author, and lawyer serving since 2011 as the 56th governor of New York"

BURDEN of PROOF:

Wikipedia advises:

"When two parties are in a discussion and one makes a claim that the other disputes, the one who makes the claim typically has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim especially when it challenges a perceived status quo."

CON interprets the resolution to mean that PRO must prove that the Governor of New York is good source of information about construction for oromagi

ARG 1.1  WRONG STATE

  • Oromagi lives in Colorado
  • Andrew Cuomo is Governor of New York
  • Different states have different laws governing construction
    • For example
      • New building construction is not considered an essential service in New York and so is prohibited during the course of this emergency
      • New building construction is considered an essential service in Colorado, however, and is not currently prohibited
  • Since Cuomo's state doesn't have to worry about most construction projects right now, Cuomo is not likely to provide any information vital or even relevant to construction projects in Colorado.
CONCLUSION

  • Oromagi doesn't plan to pursue any new construction projects in the near term but if information regarding construction during the COVID emergency becomes necessary, oromagi will rely on Colorado State Multi-Industry Construction Guidelines provided on Google Drive by the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment
  • CON looks forward to PRO's R2 reply

Round 2
Pro

Con
THBT: IF YOU WANT CONSTRUCTIVE INFORMATION on the CORONAVIRUS, LISTEN to ANDREW CUOMO

  • PRO has forfeited BOTH rounds
ARG 1.1  WRONG STATE

  • extend all arguments
CONCLUSION

PRO has failed to prove that the Governor of New York is good source of information about construction for oromagi

VOTING

  • DART CoC advises:
    • Full-forfeit (FF)/Conceded Debates
      • "A full-forfeit debate is defined as a debate that has no argument presented by one side following the opening round, resulting in all subsequent rounds being forfeited. When this is the case, these debates are considered full-forfeit debates and are not moderated unless a voter votes for the forfeiting side. Similarly, a conceded debate is any debate in which on side clearly concedes the debate to their opponent. These debates are considered conceded debates and are not moderated unless a voter votes for the side that concedes"
  • Thanks to ramdatt for the free lunch
  • Thanks to all VOTERS for their kind consideration
