Geophagy, or the intentional consumption of soil or similar substances, is a behavior that has been observed in many primate species, including monkeys. Some possible reasons for geophagy in primates include:

Do you know if fruit/vegetable eating primates tend to practice less geophagy when said foods are abundant?
Vegetables are high in cellulose. Fruit also have some cellulose, but not much.
Now, leaves are very high in cellulose.
So I would expect that monkeys which have fruit might not eat soil as much, but I am not sure.
However, monkeys who eat leaves probably have to eat soil.
Cellulose can only be digested by certain enzymes (cellulase) which are produced by bacteries which are found in soil.
Grass contains lots of cellulose, and cows also eat soil sometimes.
I would expect that any animal which eats food with lots of cellulose (like grass, weeds and leaves) also has to eat soil to digest that cellulose.

Okay, so smokers have done a lot of harm to society.
There is no any benefit from smoking, but there is plenty of harm.
Children of smoker parents are much more likely to have more disorders or become smokers themselves.
Children in society where smoking is common are also more likely to become smokers.
Smoking is self harm and suicide.

I thought only women have periods where their mood changes, but I noticed that I have significant mood changes every week or two.
I guess this kinda proves that I am female who has periods every week.
My mood cycles from "Life is great" to "Everything sucks", and this cycle seems to happen on a weekly basis.
Like, there are days when I feel great for no specific reason, and there are days when everything seems horrible for no specific reason.

Cellulose is a sugar formation which cannot be digested by humans.
Cellulose needs to be broken down into simple sugars to be digested.
Some bacteries are able to break down cellulose into simple sugars which can be digested then.
In soil, there are bacteries which can break down cellulose.
Thus, when monkeys eat soil, they consume bacteries in it which help break down cellulose from leaves they are eating into simple sugars to be used by body.
This simple yet effective method shows that monkeys arent eating soil just because of some minerals in it, but it is actually crucial for them to be able to digest cellulose in leaves.

Most people are simply bloodthirsty and have no understanding of Tao.
They have been killing "bad people" for tens of thousands of years, maybe even for millions of years.
So by simple natural selection, bad people should have disappeared or be greatly reduced in number long time ago, because most people make such great effort to kill them.
Yet today, we somehow have plenty of bad people.
Its because those who kill bad people tend to be bad themselves.
Lets face it, Hitler was bad, but that doesnt make Stalin or Mao good.
Its just bad guys fighting bad guys for our whole history and pretending its "good vs evil".
Nothing is achieved by killing one bad guy because you just make room for another bad guy to thrive.
One bad government replaces another.
One bad leader replaces another.
The point is to reduce evil, but people want "easy solutions".
Killing "bad guys" is easy, but it doesnt work because there is no good guys to replace them.
System doesnt focus on creating good guys.
Imagine if government took effort to make sure all young people become good. In just 50 years, crime would be almost completely eradicated because new generations wouldnt be criminals.
But government only focuses on punishments once crime already happens and once person has already become evil. At that point, its too late.
Now, maybe future will enable AI to raise people in a way which makes them completely good, because the current system is failing badly at producing even decent people.
