I always wondered if Jews found it blasphemous to suggest that a divine angel could be capable of human sins like disobedience or pride.

Once one or more members have found out why Member X was banned, would they be permitted to discuss it with other people in threads?

Please vote.
I'm sure anyone could guess where my vote lies.

I think we just need a bit of policy change. When I made suggestions for policy change, I found bish pretty receptive and willing to listen. My suggestions were implemented surprisingly quickly.

No they aren't. What you DO to Tyrone while laughing at what he posted in spite of it, is the key.
Maybe. But I'm not interested in power and I think DART can do better.

People we can settle all this right now. Right now. I propose we all tackle sec in unison and pry the box from his greedy spiteful claws. He'll struggle but several people can hold him down and then the box will be ours. All ours. Open your eyes! What is he hiding from us? Why is he making us play this sick guessing game? Is there even a ball? What is in the fucking box? Omg, I bet it's a list of everyone who secretly hates us.

I guess I may not have my finger on the pulse of the community on this one. But I still think that if a member reports an offense, and the moderator responds with laughter, it could well compound the offense -- even if the moderator banned the offender and was simply laughing while she did it. I can imagine people being like, "If you're harassed on DART, don't contact the mods. They'll just laugh in your face because it's all a big circle jerk there where everything is a sick joke, even harassment."

I was simply suggesting that mods answer people when they ask why a member was banned.
I think I am more open to that than a public ban list, but I would want to avoid any call-out threads about the banned member, as that would constitute a personal attack. I think if it were done via the PMs, it would be okay. What are your thoughts on that?
I don't know how I missed this. PM's would be fine with me. They would meet members' desire for information and your desire for discretion.

What would you do if, say, a member posted a topic with a title like "why was Member X banned?" Would you be okay with answering that in the thread or would you PM the thread author directly?

You have to realize that the reason that you and every other human being with any sort of soul laughed at that video was because it was funny. An obviously white guy putting black crap on his face and acting as if he is black, even going so far as to act as if he's proven his point and calling his critics 'racists' is funny because it's farce. Reacting with laughter to absurdity, overconfidence, and delusion is just the natural human reaction to something like this; it's not funny because it's 'racist'. It isn't even 'racist'. The point of the video, and the reason behind its humor, is the overconfidence of the person in it. To get all 'snooty', the Greeks called this 'dramatic irony', because the audience is aware of something that the character isn't (namely, that no one in the audience is convinced that he's black), and so an emotional response is provoked (humor).

Only bitter people who want others to share in their misery can suppress that simple, organic reaction and replace it with this bizarre, mechanistic bitterness. They're the spiritual version of a neurotic who dissects every flower that he comes across, looking for some sort of disgusting bug, instead of just enjoying the scenery.
That's not a bad dissection of the video and the reaction it elicited. But there are going to be people who -- quite understandably imo -- don't want to see their moderator laugh at blackface. In any context. A member can get away with that, but the person in charge is expected to take it seriously.

So it's okay for a person to show low character if they loathe their low character? I'm not sure I agree with that, man. Especially when said person is supposed to hold a position of responsibility.

What about a mandatory public comment period for any changes to moderation policy?
I don't see how that could go wrong. Sounds like a fine idea. Though it obviously only assures member input on new policies, not existing ones.

Wow I really wasn't expecting them to be accepted that fast. Thanks for hearing my feedback.

I wasn't suggesting a public ban list specifically. I recall your concerns were that it would violate member privacy and amount to public shaming. Those aren't bad arguments. I was simply suggesting that mods answer people when they ask why a member was banned. Punitive actions carried out without any explanation always look suspicious and Orwellian.

But if we're discussing member privacy, I guess my perspective would be this:

No one is ever banned for something they didn't freely choose to post on a pubic message board. Every time we hit "create post", we are accepting the consequences of that decision. If the crime was public, why should the punishment be private?

@bsh1
Making a few concessions to transparency might save you a lot of grief.
I'd be open to doing that if there were some reasonable, concrete things that people wanted me to do to be more transparent. I am open to suggestions.
- Relax the mod PM rule so that it's only prohibited to post a mod's PM without notice if it exposes information about another user. In all other cases let people post mod PMs without having to notify you to give you a preparatory advantage.

- Consider locking threads instead of deleting them. Individual offensive posts within the thread can still be deleted. Destroying evidence and records always strikes people as suppression. Doesn't matter what the reasons are.

- Relax your policy of conducting mod actions "behind closed doors", so to speak. You do this to protect member privacy, but your problem is you're not on a forum that values member privacy more than transparency, you're on a forum that values transparency more than member privacy. Which means your priorities are at odds with the priorities of your base. Jmo. Start telling people why members were banned, if they ask. If this is already your policy, I apologize. I thought mod actions were currently private unless the subject of the action chose to share the information.

Just off the top of my head. I don't know how reasonable or concrete they are. But they were honest attempts at actionable suggestions.

When you ban someone, people don't want to hear "that's classified", they want the scoop. When you send them a PM censuring their behavior, they want to show it to people as it is and say "look guys, do you think this is fair". And even when a thread totally crosses the line, they still want to read it for themselves.

I wouldn't isolate myself from the non Christians, that defeats the point of me being here.

See, bible studies are impossible on the religion forum because it will inevitably turn into a topic about the validity of the bible.

The point would be so that Christians can get their theology in order, maybe help eachother be more effective in the common forum.

Instead of you know, it all being drowned out by those with strife on their agenda.

Make sense?
Yes, as it's pretty much what I said.

And I wasn't suggesting that you would isolate yourself from non-Christians.

They clearly should get together. But no, they refuse to team up in a liberal vs conservative forum simply because of the small matter that Shapiro is disgusted by Milo on every possible level.

I find theist-to-theist discussions interesting but don't get to read them very often because atheists come in the thread and turn it into a theist/atheist battle. It would be a bummer if there were private topics that were free of that problem but I still didn't get to read them. 🙁

But it's not a big deal, and I really understand why theists would want such a thread to exclude atheists like myself. Sometimes you just want the other side to fuck off. More than "sometimes" in the case of our religion forum, I'm guessing.

You are both of course always welcome on any of my threads but barring any questions or comments I believe that we have explored this topic to its natural conclusion and I shall concentrate on those who are still on there way.

I can certainly understand the desire for an origin story for Satan. Without one, you have a rather large unanswered question. Where did the greatest evil of all time come from?

The evolution of Satan through the centuries is pretty fascinating. "Greatest evil of all time" isn't really an accurate description of how he's always been thought of throughout the world.

If you hadn't banned the Tyrone impostor or done anything about the thread, you'd just have a different group of people bitching that you let things get out of hand without taking action.

But bish, I notice that the decisions of yours that get the most heat in general are the ones that involve censorship or secrecy. People are naturally suspicious of what you withhold from them. Note that through all these criticisms, your explanations and reasons haven't mattered to people as much as your actions themselves. Making a few concessions to transparency might save you a lot of grief.

I'd rather have group private chats. If it's a conversation I'm not allowed in, I'd rather not see it at all. It's their business and doesn't concern me. If there were private topics in the forums, to everyone who's excluded it's basically just a sign that says "this is our club, you're not invited".

So are you like one of those people who's not a troll but is sort of generally pro-troll? A connoisseur of trolls, if you will. "Ah yes, a fine Chateau le Troll, 2018 -- excellent year, perfect harvest. Note the pleasing banned aroma."

You know in the thread where spacetime got banned I laughed so hard there were tears. Sometime after the fifth multi account and the imgur link to the virgin/chad meme, I couldn't breathe and I thought I was dying.

Oh not again. I expressed my disapproval of the toxic atheists' behavior on DDO multiple times damn it. Btw, expect to encounter the same shit in DART's religion forum, minus the blatant personal attacks. So... progress? *weak clapping*

The "Yeshua should die" debate title obviously crossed the line if that's what you mean, though I still don't understand why Yeshua invited it across the line. But even before Wylted posted the debate, Yesh seemed to feel personally attacked, and I was wondering why. From what I could see people were just disagreeing with her on healthcare and human rights.

The Mystery of Dyatlov Pass

The Dyatlov Pass incident refers to the unsolved deaths of nine ski hikers in the northern Ural Mountains in the Soviet Union (now Russia) between 1 February and 2 February 1959. The experienced trekking group, who were all from the Ural Polytechnical Institute, had established a camp on the slopes of Kholat Syakhl in an area now named in honor of the group's leader, Igor Dyatlov. During the night, something caused them to tear their way out of their tents and flee the campsite while inadequately dressed for heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures.

After the group's bodies were discovered, an investigation by Soviet Union authorities determined that six had died from hypothermia while the other three showed signs of physical trauma. One victim had a fractured skull; two others had major chest fractures. Additionally, another team member was missing her tongue and eyes. The investigation concluded that an "unknown compelling force" had caused the deaths. Numerous theories have been put forward to account for the unexplained deaths, including animal attacks, hypothermia, avalanche, infrasound-induced panic, military involvement, or some combination of these.
What's your theory?

You need:

- an explanation of the initial threat that drove them from the tent (avalanche, animal, etc)
- a timeline of events, fitting the clues and evidence, that explains what happened between their flight from camp and their deaths

I've always been in the "they heard an avalanche" camp. But figuring out the order of events that happened afterward is trickier, not to mention the counterarguments against avalanche.
