Try to load all the activities for the past month or so. Most likely it's there because there are activities that haven't been marked as read.

I think you are right on all the points, I took a few shortcuts in order to be able to release something as fast as possible. I will try to fix everything.

And thank you, I couldn't appreciate more all the help from you!

I propose adding a gold modal for becoming the lowest ranked user.
Hahaha, Type1 is the only one that will ever have it :/

Well, it's a fair point but I decided to count from the domain registration date, not from the official release date. Not sure if that's the best choice but oh well. At least there's only 2 weeks difference between those 2 days.

Theres a glitch, where if you press post multiple times like I sometimes do because of a habit of mine, it posts a lot
I will try to fix it somehow but usually the website should be robust and there is no reason to click multiple times. Or is it slow for you?

Regarding the problem of last minute vote bombs, I thought of two workarounds...

First, would be giving admin the power to delete the votes anyway, even if the debater scores are not adjusted. Regarding if scores were also adjusted, I would not worry about perfection, executing the score adjustment formula again and ignoring that the scores have shifted would correct all but marginal cheated gains.

Second, what about adjusting the countdown clock when votes are cast at the last minute? It'd be short logic check along the lines of  IF(countdown<36hrs, 1,0) THEN SET(countdown)=36hrs ELSE nothing.
Yeah, you are probably right about the votes deletion. I could implement it this way and then at some point later add the rating recalculation too.

Regarding the second idea, I believe I was offered something like that before but there was some good arguments against it, which I don't remember. Could you please create a forum topic for that and see what folk would think about it?

You mean emails or on-site notifications too?

Can you allow us to find forums just like we can find debates?
I will see if I can do it, the problem is that implementing full text search for forums is tricky coz if the forum starts growing, it can potentially consume lots of space, more than I have available from my hosting plan and I'd have to pay outta my pocket again and I am not doing that.

Also I wanted to ask you guys help me attract people here to keep the community growing. If, for example, you are a member of some Facebook or Reddit debating groups, don't be shy to share the debates that we have here, we have quite a few good quality debates and I think it could easily attract some more smart people here :)

Yeah, moderation is extremely important and I believe we got lucky with our mods :)

Even if I decide to move on to some other project, I will probably just hand over the development to somebody else and the site will continue to live and evolve.

I didn't mention Kialo.com project and even though they have an extremely fancy website and somewhat similar idea, I am not sure if they will be able to monetize the service to the expected values so I have a feeling they may disappear at some point too.

The last haven for online debaters
I was doing my research on other debating platforms out there and accidentally I stumbled upon this small article here, which made me realize that what we have here is possibly the last haven for people that like proper online debating, because, if my research is correct, all other platforms are simply living out their last days. We all know what happened to DDO so this is not even worth mentioning, but there are also platforms like Qallout, DebateIsland or Edeb8*** and some other, that either stopped active development or even worse, they are on their life support and may get shut down at any moment. So what we have here is rather unique and I wanted to thank you guys for being here and for showing your support. We're not just another forum or website for fighting with trolls and idiots without any purpose to it, we've managed to actually build a good community of smart and decent people and I am proud of you folk :)

*** I talked to the owner of that platform a while ago and I believe he's working on a completely new version so there's hope for that.

2nd Poll: Should DART have ads to help DebateArt.com out and to pay for features?
$77 per year
Woooooooooooooo

If you want to help out, $3-4 per month is a good way of helping out. It’s not going to fully fund everything, but certainly helps cover costs. The main issue is simply time needed to implement features, raising page ranks and marketing.
Yep

Everyone needs to tweat debates
Especially since the account that I created there got banned after like a week and I can't post anything there, I freaking hate Twitter.

No ads, and the website seems to be running pretty smoothly as it is with updates on a regular basis.
He's not offering ads just for the sake of the ads, but for the purpose of covering the expenses on hosting and maybe buying some coffee to our mods.

I am afraid it's not gonna arrive any time soon, unless you guys are designers and willing to design the whole thing because otherwise design is the hardest thing for me ( that's why the site is so ugly )

Yeah, ads is an ugly solution, I don't like it either :/ But as an alternative, we could add fake buttons that would redirect users to some porn sites and those would pay us the referral reward.

Will they be more more features. Like DDO, Polls might be a good idea with comments
There will be features, I am actually working on one as we speak. But folk, you gotta understand, this site is developed by a single guy so things take time and also the total income of it is -14$ after the expenses, so my motivation to work on it on my free time instead of reading a nice book or doing some sport is also not limitless and I frankly, I start to lose it. I didn't trash it with nasty ads, I didn't abandon it or anything like that but I can't even cover the expenses for hosting...

Also it may not look like it, but with every day this site gets more and more complex, it's probably more complicated than some small startups out there so it gets more difficult to maintain it and therefore more time consuming and I am doing all this stuff for free and it's also worth pointing out that some good devs in the US make > $100k annually, so I have some "alternative costs" by spending my time on this instead of doing some paid freelance work or something like that.

I am sorry for the rant but if you want new stuff, at least help me stay motivated by helping to cover the hosting expenses and buying some beer for our mods (that actually do a good job at keeping the site bots, spam and retards free). 3$ is probably cheaper than a cup of coffee in a typical US city...

On the leaderboard, show who's currently online at any given moment.
If I find an empty spot there to put this indicator. And hearing "please" sometimes would also be lovely, since I am working for free here anyway.

Perhaps add medals for ranking? Like silver at 1600, gold at 1700? (Maybe 1750? Tagged the current king of the hill for feedback)

I would say gold at 1800, but that might encourage the wrong behaviors.
Sounds like a great idea, I will definitely consider medals for ranks.

When clicking on the philosophy forum tab. The tab reads "Philosophy and worldviews".

Can you change it back to "Philosophy"?

Worldviews is already discussed in philosophy because philosophy is the study of stuff whether it be from a Christian, Atheist or spiritualist. Worldview disputes occur in Atheism vs Theism debates which are under the philosophy topic instead of worldviews.
Yeah, I guess that's easy enough

Broken Notifications

@mustardness
@TheRealNihilist
@Speedrace
There are a few gotchas about the emails that may clear the things. So, the most obvious one is that you have to enable the notifications ( if they aren't ) in your profile section. The next one is that the emails get sent only once in 5 mins ( I think it was 5 ...) per email type, so if somebody mentions you in 2 forum posts in a time period less than 5 mins, you will get the email only about the first one. And the last one, you should check the spam folder and make sure the emails don't go there. From my side, I believe I have done everything in order to prevent the emails from going to spam but I guess it can still happen.

Low Activity
Yeah, and Google is also not exactly fast when it comes to indexing, probably because it's a new site and it doesn't trust it.

But we have lots of "share" buttons, so if you want the higher activity, don't forget to share your favorite debates in Facebook or Twitter, that could definitely help :)

Also there's lots of Reddit and Facebook groups dedicated to debating, so we should get their attention too, somehow :/

As bsh1 said, only 3 people can delete your posts, bsh, Virt and myself and nobody apparently did it. But, if something like that happens, I believe you should get a notification like:

"SomeUser" deleted your post for the forum topic "Some forum topic"
Did you get a notification like that?

The issue is that it would probably take an experienced app developer around 3-4 weeks full time effort to implement an app, this is not including generalized design and HF issues. Even so, most people won’t really use the app, so this would be additional effort over and above mobile site development. As a result, it’s probably not worth the time or effort given that there’s a feature list that stretches to the moon and back.

But as someone who uses mobile exclusively, we know that there is work to be done on improving the site for mobile users.

Just to feel the difference, check out website called kialo.com, there are probably like 20+ employees working for them having annual 50k+ EUR salaries each and their website is still meh, considering the expenses. And even though we're not even nearly to being as fancy as they are, I still think we have something really nice here, considering the expenses of 30 EUR per month haha

@Caleb
Hi there!

Yeah I know that we need a mobile version but it's a huge effort which would take half a year, if not more, to implement properly so it's keep getting postponed. And obviously I cannot delegate that stuff to anyone else either, since we have 16 dollars of donation income, which doesn't even cover the hosting expenses. So basically, the best advice is what @K_Michael suggested, just get a laptop haha.
