Nah, it should be working but as I mentioned somewhere, it may take a while since it's not real time, give it like 10-15 mins. It has this checking algorithm that runs the tests for the medals every once in a while so that's why there is this delay.

DART Twitter is Suspended
-->
@Vader
Yeah, I noticed it a couple of days ago... Fuck Twitter, I couldn't implement their auth system (that's why we have only Facebook and Google) and now it got suspended for God knows what. I even sent them a ticket asking why it got blocked exactly and they said due to the violation of the rules and gave me the link to the rules page, and I thought I was lazy... I am gonna remove it from the footer, I don't have patience to deal with them.

Well, it's not a big deal for me to implement it but let's do what I always try to do: ask other people. Could you please create a separate topic for that, explaining what you precisely want and how you think it should be implemented. And we give it some time and if everything goes alright, I'll add it to the list and implement at some point, probably after I merge some other forum categories into bigger ones.

How could you possibly forget task 4,908,018 on your site to-do list?
I know, right?

Btw, is the new private message option in the account tab also referring only to emails?
Yep

You mean all arguments by both sides? Then that's fine.

If it's only by one side, I still have a problem with it.
Yeah, all arguments from both sides. So if there are 3 rounds, then all 6 arguments have to be forfeited for the debate to be considered failed.

Oh I see. Well, notifications settings are EMAIL specific, there is currently no way to disable activity notifications :) So just toggle those and you should be fine :)

Also, please notice that you have to save the settings per tab. So if you need to change the settings in two different tabs, you gotta make the changes in the first tab, save it, then do the settings in the second and save them again.

@Earth
So mentions are only implemented for debate comments and forum posts, for the former, there is a setting called New addressed comment in the notifications settings -> "Debates" tab; for the latter, there is New addressed forum post in the notifications settings -> "Forum" tab. Those settings should allow to disable or enable the notifications. But let me know if they don't work.

If some notification is disabled in the notifications settings but you still get the emails, it's a bug. Can you please elaborate? What kind of emails are you getting?

Okay, so I have changed the implementation to the one mentioned before, all forfeits OR no casted votes make the debate failed and prevent the rating change.

Well, I can prevent the rating change only if all arguments have been forfeited or zero votes have been casted. What do you think about that?

@Wylted
What we want to change is not to prevent punishing for ties, that's how ELO works and if you tied with a player that has much lower rating than you, you lose your rating and the other way around, but we want to kinda disable this when there are no votes, so it's simple as that.

@bsh1
Yeah, it's pretty much the same formula from the ELO wiki and we already have it, just with some custom coefficients. We just need to readjust it for the edge cases when, for instance, nobody has voted.

Well, bronze is supposed to be something easy, getting to the third place in the rating is not that easy, so that was my logic. Regarding the situation with being at the first place, I am afraid I couldn't have implemented it even if I wanted to because I don't keep the records so there is no way to find out who has ever taken the first place.

New changes:

Well, I guess you have noticed the changes without me even mentioning them. This is the most simple version but it will be constantly developed, hopefully you'll like it :)

One thing to notice is that the medals don't work in the real time mode, there is a delay of a few minutes before they get awarded and it has a few nuances as well: for example, for some of the medals, which calculate the number of user's comments, posts and etc, they calculate only the instances that are older than 15 minutes, to avoid the situation when the user simply creates bunch of those, gets the medal and then deletes them.

PS The system has taken me some time and may have some bugs in it, so please, if you notice that something is not working correctly or not working at all, please let me know.

So my plan is the following:

Tomorrow I'll push a new feature, it's nothing super exciting but it's at least something new. Then I'll make some changes to the voting system and after that, I'll work on the admin panel for me and the mods, because at the moment it's a piece of crap.

And only after that, we could work on this part, but as RM mentioned, we do need to get away from the DDO's format as far as possible and hopefully make it better, considering the experience.

I don't think he meant that the process would be automatic.  Anyway, the bottom line is that I promise that the process of changing mods, if it happens for some reason, will be handled properly, it definitely won't be a surprise for the people here.

Yeah, nobody is getting the mod position automatically, not only there is no "button" for that, nor it's a process that should go blindly and behind people's back.

@bsh1
It's hard to tell off the top of head, I implemented it like 3 years ago. I just pretty much copy pasted it from wiki and changed some numbers, I think we have custom k-factor or something. I'd have to look into the code to recall what's what.

Yeah, I definitely like the ideas and I think they are rather easy to implement. I'll finish this new feature I am working on and then get back to it. But if I may ask, could you please create a separate topic for that to discuss the change? I don't want to go behind people's back.

@RationalMadman
Well, I believe that's how it's supposed to work according to the ELO formula I took from wiki. Look, I realize it's not perfect but hey, if you have suggestions how to improve or even change the system, please, go ahead, write the tech spec for it with all the formulas and edge cases and etc and we can discuss it with other people and implement it.

Oh for God's sake, rating system is not corrupt, it's just "naive", i.e. implemented in the most simple way.  If your rating went down after winning a debate, that's a just bug that needs to be fixed. Have some goddamn patience, I can't solve all the problems and develop all required features in a matter of 3 months.

I don't know anything about AirMax, I just read somewhere that it was a mod on DDO, that's pretty much all I know about him. Also I don't think I've ever had contact with bladerunner.

New changes:

1) Implemented a way for the mods to prevent specific users from voting on the debates.

2) Added 2 new fields to the profiles: country and native language. By default they are empty.

PS. I apologize for the multiple server restarts, I had to deal with some minor unforeseen issue.

A Primer on Moderation
I haven't read most of the topic though, just wanted to point some things out.

First of all, I distanced myself from the moderation because I'd simply be a terrible moderator. Not only I have no experience whatsoever, also considering where I come from, most likely I have completely different mentality so that wouldn't help too much either. But it doesn't mean I am not here, I am just trying to manage the bigger picture, if that makes sense. Regarding the current mods, I think the guys are doing a good job and I really appreciate their help and effort. Obviously, it's impossible to make everyone satisfied with everything and I think that's normal and expected. But if for some reason situation gets outta hand, which I doubt it will, then I will, of course, interfere.

Other options for "time for argument"
-->
@drafterman
Is it possible to do some analytics on the back end? What is the average time to post an argument based on the timestamps? Each participants' argument has a "published" date, you can just subtract one published date from another, then average out the deltas.

The current option for 12 hours seems sufficient. Unless we have people regularly posting arguments very quickly, I'm not sure I see the need.

Then again, if it's a simple coding change, it doesn't really hurt anything, either
Yeah, I don't think it would take me more than an hour so if people want it, then it's not a problem at all to implement it.

Other options for "time for argument"
@bsh1 suggested to create a couple of other options for the "time for argument" debate setting, specifically 30 mins and 3 hours, I like the idea and I just wanted to quickly discuss it before I start implementing it, to see if there are any objections or other suggestions.

New changes:

Implemented a button to remove private conversations. There is one thing to note though, when you delete the conversation, it deletes the messages only for you, the other person still has access to them until he or she decides to delete them as well

PS: The release required quite a few code changes so if something stopped working or working incorrectly, please let me know and I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

Live Debate!!!
A little bit off topic but believe me or not but I was considering the idea of implementing full blown system for real time video debates, do you guys think we should go for it? It may take a lot of time but it may be worth it if you like the idea.

I'd really like to be notified when someone votes on your debate
That's already been implemented. If you mean email notifications, then you need to activate them in the notifications list section of your profile.

Well, the difference is that DDO was making money and therefore could afford to pay for the storage and bandwidth and I simply can't, especially if it goes outta hand so to be honest, I am not that sure about the albums, maybe one day though.
