Oh I see, I am sorry I didn't understand you from the first time. That's actually a damn good idea! I guess that's exactly how we'll do it for starters.

The problem is the absence of the interface for those admin functions and that's exactly what I am working on these days. But hopefully I'll finish those ( at least for the forum ) next week and that'll be a good start.

Yeah, I am working on those things at the moment. Tomorrow I'll release a new version with the "block" button among other things and then we'll get to the reporting stuff.

1. Allow Instigators to set character limits on rounds.
Will be there for sure, at least to some extent.
2. An interesting feature Edeb8 had was the ability to include "reply speeches," which are basically R4s except where (i) Con goes first and then Pro goes and (ii) the character limit is half the character limit of the rest of the debate -- the purpose of those speeches is exclusively to crystallize without any rebuttal or defense or offense.
Could you please elaborate a little on this one? What's R4? But apart from that, if I got it right, it sounds interesting and we may come to something like this at some point.
Regarding the voting system, I believe a few people have already mentioned pretty much the same thing and I'll surely work on it.

Yeah, the mentions is my main concern because it may be confusing if your activities start to disappear or point to posts in which you are not actually mentioned, not sure how to go around it to be honest.

Yeah the Elo system was written like 3 years ago and in the most naive way so we may need to discuss it and reimplement, I'll create a separate topic for it a bit later.

So the logic is that the argument may have 60k chars including formatting and 30k without formatting so it varies, maybe there is a better way to handle it but I haven't looked into it yet.
One thing to have in mind is that you can now paste all kinds of things into the editor, like text with ugly red background or huge font sizes or anything of the kind but eventually it should get stripped away when it goes through the server.

Well, truth is, there is no interface for that so I had to go to the database level and do it manually. Obviously mods will not be able to do it but I will add a way to edit the votes after 5-10 mins since they were created so there will not be need for that.

But that turns off the bell notification in-site too.
Are you sure? If that's the case then it's a bug.

I apologize but I am still not sure I understand you.
Ability to get notified by something on email and not on here.
You should receive email notifications and you handle manage through in the office, to disable and enable the ones you want.
Yes, that's weird to ask right?Also the opposite obviously. :) Your settings making it an ultimatum and I reserve email notifications for stuff i want a 'ping' to happen on my smartphone.
This part I don't understand. Settings make what an ultimatum? If you mean the emails, then you can disable them.

I am not sure that'd be cool from my side to disclose the exact details, even though the bastard created the topic here trying to sabotage me, but the big picture is that the guy suggested I ban some members here who he finds toxic or he will not tell good things about this site to some abstract potential users or whatever it was. The problem here is that his claims were not substantial so I declined and he didn't like it and here we are.
Hell if I know what's going on here.

But does it save what we type as we type it? That's the caching that was referred to here, not the freezing of profile pics as they get changed etc
You lost me. What do you mean? What should be saved when you type? By caching I meant exactly the profile pics, among other things.

@Varrack
You're talking about unread notifications right? I just clicked some of my old "you were mentioned" notif links and they still took me to the first page.
Nah, I mean the ones created after the update. The problem is that the old notifications had no stored information about the referenced forum post and therefore it's impossible to make them work but the new notifications have that data and work as expected.

Yay! So much more convenient with the mention notices, and now when I copy and paste something it doesn't delete the spaces between paragraphs so I end up with a big old block of text.
Yep, you wanted it, you got it ;)

1) Bumped the debate vote reason size from 3k to 5k chars.
2) Forum posts activities now should take you right to the posts when clicked on the topics (only the new ones)
2) Forum posts activities now should take you right to the posts when clicked on the topics (only the new ones)
3) Relaxed copy pasting into the editor, now it should be easier to do. It also comes with some drawbacks so we'll see if that's a good idea.

There should be notifications, will look into it.

Such a pathetic little thing. LOL
Last warning, mate. Stop it already. There's bunch of other forums where you can and maybe even encouraged to insult the other participants but this one ain't one of those and there's no need to turn it into anything like them.

Yes of course. The instigator would have the option of choosing between that system and the 7-point one when they set up the debate. I know a lot of people who prefer select winner, so it would be great to have that -- a lot of us don't care about having points cast for conduct or spelling or whatnot.
Sure, I could give it some thinking and implement it if everything's okay but cannot give any promises when, unfortunately.
I agree with 1harder that they shouldn't go to either side. It just seems cleaner that way, and thatst what werew used to anyhow.
Makes sense to me. I'll also take a look into it and see how difficult it would be to change it.
Regarding the changes to make the positions more obvious and adding a way to select it during the debate creation, I believe somebody has already suggested it and it's on the list as well, so it'll be there, just give it some time :)
Created:

@Varrack
For voting, a Select Winner option would be great...I highly prefer that to the 7-point system (if you're unfamiliar with Select Winner, it's where all 7 points are awarded to one side or the other over arguments).
But it would be optional and decided by the creator of the debate, right?
I'm not sure what the character count is for vote explanations, but if it could be higher than 1k characters, that would be nice -- it was a frequent problem on DDO for us to run out of room when writing our reasons for our votes.
Pff, not a problem, I'll bump it up next release from 3k to 5k, hopefully that'll do it (tomorrow)
I just noticed that this debate somehow has a vote tally of 3-7, yet the sole vote that was cast only awarded 3 points to one side and 4 to the other...is this a bug/glitch?
Nope, the logic is that when it's tied, every participant gets the same amount of points so it's okay :)
It would be convenient if a debate clearly displayed which side is Pro or Con in a debate...often, I have to read through a bunch of text just to figure out who's on what side.
At this point, the instigator is always a Pro so that should help a little. How would you make it more clear btw? Suggestions are always appreciated :)

@RationalMadman
Well, it's not exactly a copy-paste, they have identical or similar names but different content nevertheless and it's only two topics, so it's nothing serious, at least at this point. But I believe I saw somewhere a topic that was created with the single purpose of farming the points, now that's different story and rather sooner than later, we'd need to be more responsible when it comes to things like that.

@RationalMadman
Please discipline this guy, he is abusing the ability to post the same-style topic in different subject areas to farm forum points:
He probably just wanted to fill some almost empty categories ( which we still need to merge at some point, I remember about that ). Don't really see anything "criminal" about it, or what am I missing?

I'm most eagerly awaiting a proper quote system, mention links that take me directly to the mention rather than the first thread page, and a notification dropdown list. But I know all that has already been talked over and is on the bulletin board.
Yep, I'll get to all that in time :)
On the topic of signatures, big sigs annoy me to. Just put a font size limit on it. And don't allow images in signatures, if you ever at some point implement image posting.
That's the problem, unfortunately it's really difficult to filter the content when you support rich text, it's kinda all or nothing. Most likely, for the starters, I'll just add a text only signature and then get back to it later to try to properly implement the rich text for it.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but votes should also probably be viewable from the profile page along with debates and topics. Forum posts would be nice too, but votes more so.

Someone's probably mentioned this before, but I noticed that if I log onto the site on a different device, it logs me out of the first one. Since I switch between mobile and my laptop frequently it's causing me to keep re-logging in each time. It's pretty annoying..would be nice to be rid of.
I will try to come up with something to solve this issue :)

Obvious suggestion no one has said yet:Forum signatures.
We'll need to think on this one, I don't really like those huge signatures that people sometimes create and which take too much attention and space. But maybe it's just me, I don't know. Anyway, we'll discuss it a bit later and I'll get to it.

I can promise you the sidebar is a huge 'good' thing you do not want to take away, if you really actually want your site to become an alternative to almost any social media that people would use to 'chit chat' you're gonna want the sidebar to help enable chatting to many people at once. I do understand this will be what happens in your 'chat' tab but I guarantee you dropping the sidebar is the wrong move while making it live is the right one.
Oh I am afraid you misunderstood the sidebar that I meant. I didn't mean the chat sidebar, which shows you all the people you have chats with but the office one, the one that has bunch of links to activities, favorites, debates and etc.
And the chat will be live, that's for sure

Hi and welcome!
I am not sure about the polls section, if to be honest. If we're gonna implement something like this, I imagine it's not gonna be exactly what they have on DDO. I have a few ideas how to improve it and we'll discuss it when time comes :)

Also, a "add friend" instead of "favourite" option could be good, but meh.
I will try to add "friends" functionality rather soon but I think "favorites" and "friends" are going to be different things anyway :)
Hopefully you'll enjoy it here :)
