The fact that I did not mention demand does not mean I don't think demand was a key part of the equation. I should not have to explain to you that when I talk about the lack of supply, the fact that demand is returning far faster is the other contributing factor. That's common sense.

If demand had suddenly returned while Trump was still in office we would have seen the same phenomenon, which is why it's ridiculous to claim Biden's policies are responsible for most of the gas price hike.

No, because that's ridiculous. Gas price increases are primarily driven by the lack of supply which was obliterated during COVID. That's why every country in the world is experiencing a drastic rise in gas prices.

Firstly when you suggest that it is either socialism or capitalism you are not just suggesting a false dichotomy you are suggesting a dichotomy where none exists.

Socialism does not preclude capitalism. The forty hour work week, weekends off, social security,  Medicare and Medicaid, paid sick leave and maternity leave. These are all SOCIAL programs.

Secondly death is a feature of life and no one gets out alive. That doesn't mean we shouldn't care for each other in solidarity.

I cannot be sure without further discussion but I think you may be thinking of totalitarian regimes that call themselves socialist despite not actually operating according to socialist ideals. There have been many throughout history.

Totalitarianism actually has much more in common with capitalism. They both seek the same end goal of concentrating the wealth and power into as few hands as possible.

I am not arguing to dismantle all capitalism only that we consider the importance of wealth secondary to the importance  of human wellbeing.

Supply and demand shocks are temporary. That's why they're called "shocks". Is it your position that gas prices will go back up once the shock wears off?

The permits and leases you're talking about will add no value to the market for years. By the time that happens Biden could very well be out of office. If investors are looking that far ahead they're looking at far more than Biden, and what they're seeing is that the entire world is working towards moving on from oil.

This is far bigger than Biden, which is my point. You guys love to take small pieces of the equation and act like it's all about one man so you can pretend 100% of your anger towards the cause of 10% of the problem is justified.

Futures are a way to protect corperate interests from the market. The ultra wealthy are shielded fro the consequences of their actions in ways that we quite frankly can hardly imagine. An unregulated economy would not deal in futures. Futures are an attempt to subvert the natural ebb and flow of the market. 

Recessions, inflation, unemployment, these are all features of capitalism not bugs.

What do you think Biden can do right now to stimulate oil production? If your answer is a predictable "nothing", then put someone else in charge that can do something.

Perhaps... or perhaps there are in excess of 9000 drilling permits already not being used amd the industry is simply always willing to take advantage of any shortage (or supposed shortage) to aquire more permits to hoard against the future.

So your argument is that gas prices are high because investors saw Biden get elected and went into a frenzy, and if we elect Trump the investors will calm down and gas prices will return to normal. Is that right?

How has Biden decreased supply? Be specific and quantify how much it's decreased as well as how much this had driven up today's oil prices. I'll wait.

Oil companies control supply artificially in much the same way as the diamond industry. 

"Gouged" is presented Biden's word not mine. I am only reporting on the content of his request. I am in favor of comprehensive public transportation in place of personal vehicles to reduce the price the general public pays for fuel. 

Oil prices are not set by the president of the United states. 

If we assume that they are set by unfettered supply and demand as you suggest then the prices are exactly where they should be and having a different president would not lead to different fuel pricing. 

If we assume that I am correct and the woul companies artificially control the supply then prices are exactly where the oil companies want them and a different president would not lead to different pricing.

Unless you are arguing that the president can force the oil companies to lower their prices despite the market and/or against their will (in which case Biden was foolish to only suggest) then the prices would not be appreciably different.

1. Oil companies set oil prices not the president of the United States. To think otherwise is to misunderstand who is actually in charge of this country.

2. Biden made a request for the oil companies not to gouge the American people and the oil companies ignored this polite suggestion. History shows that corporations only adopt ethical buisness practices when they are forced too. Biden would have had to do more than request if he was serious about lowering fuel prices and I would not take you seriously if you suggested that he did not realize this.

3. Nothing. Trump is if anything an even bigger supporter of big oil. Process under the trump administration would be equally high (you might argue even higher but again the president of the United states does not set gas prices.)

And I'm glad he got our debt up to $30 trillion. Thanks Biden and Trump. Well, at least Trump got himself a $300 million tax break.
