Hardest times of your life
Looking through my USBs, 'finally found my DDO file.
Some talks I had in the Topic: Record attempt at most posts,
On such a topic.
Not 'quite a copy and paste, but 'most of it is. Of a few different posts.

I've found for me, it feels nice to smile at adversity, or even give a laugh.
Though adversity doesn't really tend to appreciate it. Especially if your adversity is an actual person. Haha.
Either Gallows humor, or as defiance I'd suppose.
If I can laugh at a situation, I feel a bit more in control of myself than overwhelmed. So long as it's more resigned/accepting that the situation exists. Able to go about changing or enduring the situation without feeling so anxious or down. Not the hysterical laughter type.
Though sometimes it's also been a way for me to passive aggressively express anger or contempt, which isn't really a positive act. Counterproductive usually if getting along or cooperation is one's goal.
Well, whether with people in general it's not a great tactic to upset them intentionally.
Smiling in an argument/confrontation tends to do that with some.

Avoiding toxic peers can work 'sometimes, who they are, can make it easier or harder to distance yourself. But take what you can sometimes.
For people and places you can't, just have to be smart about what you say, mindful of what social interaction entails for better outcomes.

Doing what one 'can to improve their situation helps I think, even little bits.
If one sucks at their job, 'actually work to improve at it, until the failure or subpar performance isn't an embarrassment.

If one always puts oneself down though, like a river it becomes more and more entrenched as it digs a deeper stream. Takes time to dam up a negative direction, get a river coursing another direction, and even then it's going to take time for the water to cut a firm enough channel that it can flow easier in a more positive direction.

Same idea as you are what you eat, or as some Cherokee supposedly put it

The Wolf You Feed
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

People 'vary, on what their 'Rocks are I imagine,
Sometimes it's intensely personal, Pride and Ego in oneself, reviling such an ignoble end of giving up.
Sometimes  it's their Family, be it blood or people one has made a connection with. Whether a partner, a friend, even a coworker in arms.

Venting to people can help in relieving stress and anger I'd expect.
Which is good, as I expect people can only hold 'so much stress before it comes bursting out. Often in a terrible fashion.
It's not 'bad to bottle emotions up for a short time, sometimes there are events in life that we just have to get by first.
'As long as we find time later to let that stress out, so it doesn't keep building.
And there's positive and negative ways to do that.
Ways that are only short term and the stress is right back,
Ways that are long term and manage to keep the stress away, though they can be slow.

Personally I feel relieved sharing my trust with people I don't know, because they are incapable of effecting my life in any way.
If I tell them something bad, it's not going to get back to my situation. Well, unless people in my hypothetical situation know what forums I post on.
Though unknown people have biases, they don't have any about me. Meeting for the first time and all that.
It's nice that one doesn't feel tied down by people on the internet, by obligation, though it 'can happen. Usually doesn't I'd say.

Sharing with people one knows can be better other times, 'because we know them. Ideally someone that we trust, that has had our back before, and we theirs.
People who have the 'same understanding of your situation, or at least understanding of circumstance and situation. Sometimes with a slight different perspective than your own, able to show you something you couldn't see before.
People one actually knows in person, it's more intimate, facial expressions, body language, 'being there.

Generally 'does seem such a waste of life and potential, when I hear of someone's death.

I don't think freedom on DART is unlimited, but the amount of freedom we have, 'is something I value.
Societies often have taboos,
Having no one to speak them too, can hurt,
Having no way to question them, can impede progress in society.

Fair points.
But I've straws to grasp at.

I'm not trying to convince you or myself of the truth of the Bible,
But I do find it fun to puzzle over the Bible at times, or think on how X 'could work, or what use people see out of it.

I also think my knowledge of it is extremely poor, and a bit pretzel twisted sometimes.
While some other times, some other parts I easily cherry pick at face value.

Rev 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
apistos: Unbelieving, faithless, unfaithful
Original Word: ἄπιστος
Part of Speech: Adjective
Transliteration: apistos
Pronunciation: AH-pees-tos
Phonetic Spelling: (ap'-is-tos)
KJV: that believeth not, faithless, incredible thing, infidel, unbeliever(-ing)
NASB: unbelieving, unbelievers, unbeliever, incredible, unbelieving one
Word Origin: [from G1 (α - Alpha) (as a negative particle) and G4103 (πιστός - faithful)]

1. (actively) disbelieving, i.e. without Christian faith
2. (specially) a heathen
3. (passively) untrustworthy (person) or unbelievable, incredible (thing)

'Could be unbelieving and unfollowing in Gods message, constantly straying, even farther than those who follow his message and ideals, but not God.
Though maybe one can argue God 'is his message in a way.

Did ever any man believe in horsemanship, and not in horses? or in flute–playing, and not in flute–players? - Plato
One is tied to the other maybe, identified by and with.

  • Mark 16:16: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
14Later, as they were eating, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

Comes right before/ Could one argue he was specifically speaking of people of that time period and locations?
Who had already heard him speak, had already seen his miracles?
Ought to have had enough proof?
Yet still harbored hardness in their hearts against what he exposed as good actions?

  • John 3:18: "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
19And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”f

Condemned for how long though?
And are they condemned because the New Testament asserts Jesus and his messages to be the best if not 'only way to salvation and good.
And in following other paths, are likely to stray, though perhaps some more than others.
Though some perhaps would, even in the hereafter, have an easier time getting back on the path.

Some take the fires of hell, not to be literal, but of the suffering one will endure on an evil path.
Of the crucible that smelts out the impurities.

  • Acts 4:12: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved".
In the 'end, supposedly it 'would be God,
If we supposed someone lived life as a good person, but had never heard of the Bible or any there in.
They still would not end up in any deities court but God, as the Bible asserts there are no other Gods but God. I think.

Well, I'm not angry 'now either.
Nor when I believed or when I turned away.

I can see how my post #15 could have been viewed as my saying I wasn't angry with God, but was angry with other things.
But I wasn't angry at 'anything.

Good poems/rap verses/book excerpts (do not troll)
"Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved?
It may be answered that one should wish to be both,
but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved,
When, of the two, either must be dispensed with."
Machiavelli's The Prince, chapter 17

"Friendships that are obtained by payments, and not by greatness or nobility of mind, may indeed be earned,
But they are not secured, and in times of need cannot be relied upon."
Machiavelli's The Prince, chapter 17

"Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that,
If he does not win love, he avoids hatred."
Machiavelli's The Prince, chapter 17

Of course the Prince is a text for a certain 'type of 'ruler. And speaks of function, not the ought of morality.
Additionally, I argue he notes different 'kinds of friendship.

“People should be doubted.
Many people misunderstand this concept.
Doubting people is just a part of getting to know them.
What many people call ‘trust’ is really just giving up on trying to understand others, and that very act is far worse than doubting.
It is actually ‘apathy.”
― Shinobu Kaitani, Liar Game, Volume 4

This character holds such a view, out of love and regret towards his mother. In who he 'missed signs of her future suicide.
Myself, I don't think it's bad when we find people we feel comfortable trusting in life. I don't think it's always bad to take someone at their word, though it is also good to know what people say and think is not always the same. To be considerate.

Calogero: "Don't you trust anybody?
Mob Boss: "No.
Calogero: "It's a horrible way to live."
Mob Boss: "For me it's the only way."
Calogero: "Not for me."
- A Bronx Tale (1993)

For a mob boss, I suppose it might be.
Lot to envy in a more normal life though, I think.

“Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.”
― Alfred Lord Tennyson, In Memoriam

Maybe.

Stoicism vs Epicureanism
-->
@zedvictor4
Heh, Funnily enough according to Wikipedia, Stoicism 'was named after it's founder for a time.

"Stoicism was originally known as Zenonism. However, this name was soon dropped, likely because the Stoics did not consider their founders to be perfectly wise and to avoid the risk of the philosophy becoming a cult of personality."

Stoicism vs Epicureanism
-->
@fauxlaw
I 'have heard that Epicureanism separates good from bad pleasure,
But I'd 'think Epicureanism seeks "generosity toward others" as a means of 'obtaining more pleasure for themselves, rather than seeking pleasure for it's generosity toward others.
And the insistence of moderation, I'd assume to be about maximizing pleasure. I'd 'think Hedonists could and ideally would practice moderation, if pleasure was their goal, though it can be easy for some to fail in such an endeavor.

"Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant cursing you.
For you know in your heart that many times you yourself have cursed others."

'Also feels very Stoic to me.

'Is failure to worship worse than raping and murdering a child?

The Sheep and the Goats (Partial)
41 Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after Me.’
44 And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
45 Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’
46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Readiness at Any Hour (Partial)
47 That servant who knows his master’s will but does not get ready or follow his instructions will be beaten with many blows.
48 But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.

A Tree and Its Fruit (Partial)
21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’

I only ask because I don't know, these three example are one's I Google shallowly picked from vague memory, not examples I've read before in depth, or have looked at other people's views of them.
I suppose one also might get creeped out by the eternal punishment line, but I shrug my shoulders, action and reaction is an eternal truth of science (I think)
Something can be eternal, without our participation being eternal.
A person is eternally tortured by their own evil actions, until they change, maybe.

Are you angry with God?

@Mall
If I believed in God, no I wouldn't be angry,
When I believed in God, I wasn't ever angry with God, that I can recall.

If there is something more than this life, this flesh, something beyond perhaps many of our Earthly limits,
It's also beyond 'my imagination to conceive how it or we would function.
Would it be as vast the difference between a fetus and an adult human. .
. . .

I see the nature and nurture effecting people, the Causality,
Some philosophy books, some people I've talked with in life and online, some thoughts I've had,
I don't view it as 'good in many senses, to hate and hurt people, even if they have committed evil.

I love most myself and immediate family, from there, it bleeds out to that which is connected to me.
People aren't perfect, no matter any of my family members past sins, I want them to be better people, I am happy for them when they 'are better, are able to do right, and enjoy right.
. . . God, theoretically is better than I, possesses a deeper and greater encompassing love.
. . . But God is still something 'vague to me, and I can't speak well or say well of what their motivations are or extend.
The Bible speaks primarily of 'humans, I think.
. . .

If people could change and we know they had been changed, I would think it better, than them to suffer punishment.
. . .
But I forget what justice is,
People have various items and ends they measure, when determining justice I think.
I do not think Plato's Justice was the same as Hammurabi's.

If I 'push my ??? I am not better than those who are serving prison time,
I am perhaps more fortunate.

If a look at it more ??? then 'currently, there 'are qualities about my current and past self, that is maybe superior to the mean of people in prison.
Lot of crimes I've never committed, and am 'probably less likely to commit.

I wonder how many people put nothing jobs on their resumes,
They go to couch surf at their uncles farm for a year or something,
Probably looks better on a resume to say one 'worked for one's uncle on a farm for a year.

Maybe better find some nothing work to actually do on the farm,
If your uncle has three chickens, ask for some simple chores like that,
Then you can say one of your tasks was feeding your uncles chickes each day.

Course this is also one of the aspects that 'annoy me about job searches,
The pushing to 'exaggerate, to put on a tap dancing show sometimes, strive and struggle to impress.
. . . Course I'm also just lazy, in some aspects of life.

The advantage of Public Education is similar to Mass Production I suppose,
Basic layout that 'mostly works, and has many interchangeable parts to keep it cheap (Ideally).
Also advantage/Disadvantage of homogenization, giving society common values and perspectives.

Advantage to government in teaching the views that 'it likes, . .  Or that it's politicians promote to get elected, sometimes.

Why can't I play as evil in games
-->
@Castin
Heh, The Elder Scrolls, games where you can join 'every guild and become 'every highest ranking member.
At least Oblivion and Skyrim, I forget about Morrowind and have never played Elder Scrolls online.

I'd often join them in Oblivion, mechanically fun quests, fun dialogue and characters, jumping roofs, dropping elk heads on old men, good times.
Though I'd feel bad about some of the quests, so it'd usually be a character created 'specifically for 'just playing the Dark Brotherhood.
. . .

I've never played Dungeons and Dragons,
But they have that Alignment Chart,
Probably a lot of players and characters fit into Lawful and Neutral Evil, willing to play nice with their ingroup and fellow players, for the fun and benefits. Socialization there.
Then there's the Chaotic Evil, not as great a fit into a group, I imagine.

Why can't I play as evil in games

@Castin
Maybe one 'wants to be good?
Wants something beautiful?

Lot of achievements I never got in video games, because I don't enjoy being evil.
I gone on some killing sprees in some games, so long as I could save beforehand,

But I don't want to see that evil (Character Name) win the game, he's a boring jerk.
Or even 'watch them for long periods of time,
I wonder if people who enjoy horror movies, villain movies and shows, play villains more in video games.
. . .

I think playing good is often more rewarded by games as well,
The evil options can end up being over the top ham, or remove game content and choices that one 'wanted.
. . .

Some other times, when evil 'is rewarded with XP, items, gold, you don't 'need such to win or be strong in the game.
Evil is a lot more tempting for me in a game when it's vital.

In a spaceship game FTL,
Game can be pretty hard, every bit of money one can get, can be the difference between winning and losing,
I'm more tempted to be evil

Still, I usually don't.

Does it matter if there exist a "God"?
-->
@IlDiavolo
I 'frequently notice Atheists try to convince others that there is no god, only ever online though.

Which plays a bit to the argument some people have about Atheism being a 'lack of belief I suppose.
Not that there 'can't be Religions with Atheism as a central tenant, just aren't any around where I've ever lived.
. . . But I'm not convinced by Atheism being 'just a lack of belief.
Organized groups with Atheistic beliefs, in my view, just didn't end up winning the social movement in some places.

I don't really notice in person 'religious people, trying to convince others of Gods existence.
'Rarely 'rarely maybe, but depends on where one lives I suppose.
. . .

Course one 'could argue some Atheist rallies are less trying to spread Atheism, and more focused on getting their identity out there, obtaining political clout for people of their group.
. . . Not 'always though,

I'd say 'fanatics, atheist, theist, or agnostic, 'can be a worry.
. . .

I don't really see people not believing in God as a problem,
But I think it's possible that belief in God, following a religion or 'some organized set of ethics, is useful in ordering and cohesion society.

Atheist or Theist though, I don't think one is more righteous and moral than the other, by 'just that label.

Jordan Peterson and Christianity
-->
@yachilviveyachali
I don't think Christians quite existed in the Old Testament,
But one moment you're believing in God,
Then as soon as his prophet goes up a mountain, leaving you alone a moment, you're worshipping a golden calf.

I get your point though,
Though their depths of faith and actions faltered, arguably they still believed in the existence of God.

But you 'did have that earlier question,
"How can God exist when you aren't willing to give your life for Him?" yachilviveyachali #1

I'm not sure, but surely there are examples of people who 'believe in God, yet are not willing/able to give their lives?

"Would you, if you are Christian, stake your life on God and His existence? If the answer is “no”, you cannot call yourself a Christian." yachilviveyachali #1

People are also often fallible.
With so many examples in the Bible, of devout believers who have some error or another in their estimation of God, might give people pause in giving their lives up.

Jobs friends criticized him with many 'theories of why he was suffering.
Jesus criticized many practices by the Pharisees.
When Josiah heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.

I don't think faith, devotion, sacrifice, a following through of ones beliefs is 'wrong.
But it can also lead to massacres and 'supposed witch burnings.

Eh, I think 'sometimes it can be ego, by people who say they are Christian or say they are Atheist,

Other times, I think they 'value what they see as the 'truth,
Or what they see as lives worth living,
Lifestyles that are good for humans,
And they want to 'help other people.

God doing 'nothing? Slaves?
Eh, depends on your perspective I suppose,
Or one's hopes.

I think I'd be a better person, and more drawn to good, if I believed God existed,
But eh, I'm a former believer.

And even without belief in God, I see a lot of game theory in the Bible, and various other religious texts.

"Does it matter whether Jordan Peterson is a Christian or not?" - yachilviveyachali #1

To me, not especially.
But what people 'perceive someone as, does tend to color their reactions maybe.
Perceptions of their motivations.

"Would you, if you are Christian, stake your life on God and His existence?" yachilviveyachali #1

It depends, I vary in what I value.
. . . Take hunger as an example, some people get hangry, 'usually they would react X way, but when hungry act Y way.
Some days and moments I feel more brave or cowardly, more caring or less caring.

Maybe people not usually willing to enter the military, maybe even think they would not if America was attacked in a terror attack,
But theoretical don't always match reality experienced,
'Reading of an event, doesn't always hit as when 'there experiencing with all of one's senses.

The Bible, I 'think, is full of Christians who doubt, question, stray.
Gideon and the Fleece,
Peter denying knowing Jesus three times,
Jonah fleeing from where God instructed him to go.

Course such isn't the 'ideal, and maybe they are not 'being Christian in those moments.

Not that such 'always worked, there 'have been a number of blind rulers in history.

You could 'possibly blind a leader, and not get a death sentence.

Will AI make investing in higher education pointless?
-->
@sadolite
I don't think I'd say AI are going to make investing in higher education pointless, but 'maybe a lot less valued by regular people.

I don't really know where the near 'stopping point of AI development and ability is though.
. . .

Lot of employers still seem to have high standards for accepting people,
Or higher education being a bonus point, when they decide who to accept.

I also think current and near future AI is still pretty limited,
The problem of highly complicated many moving 'unintelligent parts.
Something in the chain breaks, grids to a halt 'maybe.
Helicopters break more than planes I hear.

While AI can 'do a lot, I'm not sure that means it does it 'better than humans 'currently.
Some people complain a lot about AI coding.
But technology 'does improve.

I'd 'also imagine AI does better smaller.
Sewing machine, 'maybe better than human sewing. Probably more cost effective.
Humans lacking a higher education, can manage an AI over a small task, I'd imagine.
Easy to learn a crossbow or a gun, vs a longbow.
Easier to learn a sewing machine than learn how to sew, maybe.
. . .

I still see higher education as being valued,
But maybe the number of high education jobs will drop,
Creating scarcity, which could increase the 'value of higher education.
Which creates more scarcity, as poor people can't afford the higher education anymore,
Which raises the prices more.
. . . Community colleges always exist I imagine, for medium education.
Government funded Higher Education always exist I imagine, quotas in society, of high education jobs people don't always want to do.

"The question is....can you do anything without money?" - Mall #1

Kind of maybe.
There's a lot f activities that don't need money in 'themselves,
'Some 'few places one can barter,
A number of primitive tools one can make oneself.

A person can have a garden without money, but the more diversity of garden one wants without 'buying the seeds, more effort it'll take,
To find someone willing to accept barter of items or services, or to find the plant or seed in the wild.

Problem though, is I'm pretty sure 'land usually costs money these days, and can be stolen by the government if you don't give them US currency.
'Maybe some loopholes, but I'm not a lawyer.
. . .

One 'could live a homeless lifestyle, or find someplace to 'hide their home illegally,
Foraging and hunting 'might be possible in 'some locations, depending on environment and population density.
Same with soup kitchens and begging.
Hard though, I'd imagine.
. . . Might also have to 'technically 'pay money for a fishing or hunting license, now that I think about it.

"Is there really nothing that is not at a cost?" - Mall #1

Well, Law of Equivalent Exchange, I suppose.
Can't even move our body without it costing 'fuel of some sort, food, water.

'Lot of materials in US, 'do cost US paper Currency though.
'May be some loopholes, such as gathering fallen branches.

"This includes things that are "free of charge", right?" - Mall #1

Well, I assume charity meals at some churches are free, not counting whether they give you a sermon first or not.
Though it probably costs 'them US Currency to put the meals together.

"Is taxation theft of your moolah?" Mall #1

I think so, but bit difficult to put together a powerful lasting country 'without taxes and various means of control 'maybe.

"Is the dollar worth more than your life?"Mall #1

Well the 'concept and 'system maybe.
If I was 'starving though, and didn't have money, I might find immediate food worth more. Even if it meant breaking the law.

'Lot of technology and society only 'exists due to dollar system though maybe.

I suppose it 'might be nice if some land was set aside for people to live 'without dollar system, but I imagine there is always something of value.
Herders and Nomads often owned animals, owned land.
'Sure some people say you can't own the land, but I bet various nomadic people's have killed other nomadic peoples to have the ability to nomad over there, or have somewhere with 'just them.

. . . The people living without the Dollar System, might end up dying a lot more,
Dollar probably pays for a lot of medicine, hospitals, police stations, fire stations, public safety regulations, roads, education.

@LucyStarfire
I like such people well enough, especially if I think it's a fair vote.
A large reason I debate is to learn more, to improve as a person.

I like knowing more about people and what they value.
It's useful and entertaining to me.

I like sharpening my own views against the whetstones of views contrary,
And if my view should break sometimes, well, maybe wasn't the view I ought be carrying.

I 'almost wish the site had some sort of test one had to pass, before one could join.
'So many debates with forfeited rounds.

But of course, more bars to entry, fewer people that enter, I imagine.

Whether in a restaurant or a hospital,
I think customers are often willing to take something that is offered,
Whether they 'need it or not,
It's easy to say yeah, sure.
Though there 'are individuals excessively worried about their condition.

. . . Heh, I wonder if it's 'increased with technology?

Internet maybe allows more knowledge of health problems one 'could have,
But can be vague in diagnosis.

Then again, even in older era, people had a lot of stories and ideas of problems they 'could be experiencing, many now disproven,
And wives tales solutions.

Board or Card game about Debating.
When playing or negating a card such as circular argument, player must also play a situational or noun card, and give a verbal example a circular argument?

Every round the dealer changes, and they play an audience card? Audience cards have traits, and are give more points for certain arguments than others?
Or perhaps it could be like hearts in some way, once someone breaks hearts in some way?

Historical example card?
Example in TV? Book? cards?

In scrabble, words can be challenged.

What if? - The Purge
"let's just take the movie's logic, that some homicidal party took over the government and started the purge, the first one happening March 21st, 2021 at 7pm. What would you do?"  - Theweakeredge

I'd either cower in safety or rebel against the government.

"What do you think people would do in general?" Theweakeredge

In general, I think people would rebel.

"Do you think that the movie have an at all accurate interpretation of what would happen if people had no law to answer to?" - Theweakeredge

Don't know, I've never seen the movie.
People 'can get a bit crazy in riots, situations, or odd cultural norms.
They can get 'really viscous in 'long stretches of lacking law, I expect.

"Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, I should explain what the purge is exactly, maybe someone hasn't heard of it?"Theweakeredge

I've 'heard of it, seen it parodied a few times.

"How do you think this would affect America (substitute America with the country you live in) in general?Theweakeredge
How do you think this would affect the world in general?" Theweakeredge

I think it'd turn America and most 'any nation into a dystopia, such government evil.

There's also the theory that catharsis can at times increase aggression and make people feel worse.
Maybe it's 'how the person releases stress that matters, murdering and torturing other people, 'maybe not the way to go.

I think it can also be habit forming, 'maybe they wait a year until the next purge, but I'd imagine 'many act on their madness 'before the next purge.
. . . Course on another hand,
There 'are more real examples,
Cambodian Genocide, Rwandan Genocide, Nazi Germany.

Maybe many participants in Atrocities were able to distance or dissociate themselves from their actions, and live seemingly normal after. Humans 'can be resilient.

And tricky, wearing of masks, Dehumanizing, InGroup vs OutGroup.
But I've not read up on real life examples any, so couldn't say.

I wonder if school would be better if parents attended it with their kids and voiced their views on subjects.
Ethics, History, the use of various skills such as math.

Sure there's Parent Teacher Meetings and Parents Day Show and Tell,
But parents look awful divorced from their children's education to me.

. . . Not that most of them have 'time to attend school, but I wonder if it'd improve their kids education or not.

Life Boredom (help pls)
After thinking on it some,
I suppose older individuals 'could be at higher rates of depression,
And then when people get depressed they sometimes stop doing stuff, stop doing stuff that relieves depression, viscous cycle.

But sometimes one's friends or family are dying, some are divorced or alone, maybe they've retired or 'can't keep working, and working 'was their main go to, they never developed other hobbies.
Physical limitations, aches and pains, medical issues pop up sometimes, maybe there's worries about making a living or their futures.

Course, higher risk doesn't mean certain outcome.
People can depressed at all stages of life I'm sure.
Teens, school or family pressure, social confusion, body confusion and hormones, developing world views.
Mid life people, Mid Life Crisis, job, family, money.

Eh, if you're worried about old age, just consider the possible dangers, then safeguard against them as best you can. Develop the vision to see ruts, then avoid them.
. . . Just don't hyperfocus on it, that's how one could get Hypochondria, I imagine.

Yeah, I'd figure young or old, there is much the same.
Maybe some physical limitations older you get, but one can stay in shape, practice less rigorous physical activities. Or enjoy nonphysical activity.

I guess if someone 'really liked their job, or certain expensive hobbies, it'd make sense to work till one drops.
But I'm fond of cheap thrills, and enjoyments unrelated to work, myself.

Barring someone with a photographic memory, I'd figure memories for 'most people get a bit fuzzy after a while,
That doing something a second or even a third time, can still be a fresh experience.

Though with 'moderation, I don't 'think people get too bored of activities,
It's when one gorges on an experience for an extended period of time, that a sickness of said experience, can sometimes seeps in.

But hey, I can listen to the same four minute song all 'day sometimes,
Or the same food for lunch for a week or two before wanting a change.

@Speedrace Topic

I suppose second opinions are a option, when one doesn't trust an expert,
But still probably better to get your second opinion from a certified or proven expert, than one with outlandish theories, no track record of success, or certification.

To my view, it highlights the 'error of multiculturism in a nation.
The lack of common bonds,
Even bonds that 'ought be, don't appear too tight to me.

Independence Day for Instance, to 'my view means the most to the 'descendants of those who carried it out and 'lived in such times.

A shift of Demographics, people with their own heritage and venerated pasts, 'above that of their 'adopted country.
. . .

Course I admit immigrants 'can be patriotic, often are, often are 'more than people who's families have been in the country longer.
I couldn't guess statistics though.

There sure are a 'lot of Month and Day Observances, not to mention all the holidays.

I don't know about 'other countries, but we didn't have 'that many at the start I think.

I suppose I can understand 'some of them, at certain times in America's history.
Used to be a lot more Christianity I think, people probably thought having some time off on Christmas for their religion was awesome.

Though I gotta say, at a certain point, just seems to be 'too many,
Makes them all feel a bit diluted.
. . .

Though I don't 'think their 'intention was divide and rule,
I think they just thought there are a lot of people and groups who deserved recognition.

As you say, might be hard to expand the number of users on this site.

I suppose we're lucky debating is such a 'financially cheap hobby and common in humans, even if they don't always cluster around Debate Sites.
Lot of debate in social interactions, in decisions, in newspapers, and TV.

Though even more expensive and niche hobbies stick around a while I think.
Some people still have model trains and model tracks, though I don't think the hobby booms as much as it once might have.

Problem
"site seems dead..."
Is a fair point,
Which I'd imagine why some users think it might be easier to start the site or another with a blank slate.

'One way the site is made attractive, is activity,
But a 'trickle of new users who tend not to stay, means the site never gets to attractive levels.

While if the site 'was at attractive levels, having only a trickle of users could 'work, as 'enough would stay around to keep the site attractive.
There's some 'simple analogy to this I'm sure. . .
Ah, Easier to keep an object in 'motion, for example, than to 'start up motion in an object.
. . .

Wave Option 1
The solution then, I'd imagine, could be a 'wave of users.

I 'have considered literally paying X many people to use the site, to make X many well thought out Debates and Forum posts.
Some people work pretty cheap, but cheap is relative,
And if one hires people in fields or hobbies related to Debate, the chance of them sticking around increases,

But 'still, it would cost money and be a gamble.

Wave Option 2
I have seen some YouTube channels and Reddit groups do mass activities, experiments,

We 'could try to organize such a Mass Activity or Experiment on DART,
But once the time runs out, be in a month or a year,
Questionable if they would stick around,
Or how well they would 'behave on DART.

They 'might just see it as an opportunity for Trolling and Lolz, so to speak. People in such activities often do.
A danger in organizing waves of mercenary uninterested people, is you could create a long term troll problem.

But, it 'could provide enough activity to keep the site rolling and attractive to the trickle of people earnestly interested in Debate.

@Castin
I remember finding Debate.org, because it had all those polls and opinions that happened to pop up when I Googled obscure questions.
I'm not sure their success can be replicated though,
There's already a lot of other established websites that answer questions,
DART also might not have the online 'presence that Debate.org had in popping up on Google searches.
Debate.org might have had a luck moment in internet history.

I've never glanced about at other internet options for debate,
So I couldn't say how 'popular debate 'is with people,
Or if others are more successful than DART, what they 'DO or 'ARE than makes them more successful than DART.
. . .

One method I might suggest is Networking,
Trying to get all roads to lead to Rome/DART so to speak.

3RU7AL for instance, has a number of references to DART on his Discord, that it is 'possible sent some traffic to DART.
The more roads and signs one has, in content of similar nature, more traffic one gets.

Barney has that one Wiki he's working on,
Another opportunity for a road/sign,
Though I'd 'imagine he'd prefer 'several debate websites listed, since he might want roads leading to 'his site.

I'd 'imagine though, that different debate websites vary in what they offer, that it might be worthwhile to them 'and us, to promote one another on each others sites.
Like that 'book in Miracle on 34th Street,
Stores admitting to customers that 'they don't have what the shopper wants, but they know a store that does.

Second method that comes to mind is YouTube,
But I 'think some people have already tried to make some forays into YouTube promoting DART, I'm not sure how much 'success they've had.

But to me, it sounds a lot of work to make decent videos that attract people.
. . .

But this is all conjecture from someone with no experience in gaining followers or advertising,
Third option I suppose is toss money at advertisers, but I'm doubtful DARTs community overflows with money or willingness to part with money.
. . .

Image
I 'do think some users have a point, in arguing DART can be 'unsavory for a number of people,
I 'am doubtful many teachers of High School and below would introduce it to their students,
Though 'Colleges 'might.

Young people are often questioning themselves and life, good potential as users.
'But, I think if 'too much focus is made on making the site squeaky clean, one is focusing on attracting a 'minority of users, instead of the majority.

"How do you become one flesh with multiple people? Or become one flesh with someone and then dump them?" - Savant #2

Their child is one flesh, half of each.
I've no idea what the original writer meant though.

Course, in Genisis you have the whole made from one of man's rib thing,
Or Mathew, talks about how no one ought then separate said flesh/marriage in divorce.

Biblehub says
"In Hebrew, the term translated as “flesh” (basar) can refer to a person’s entire being-physically, emotionally, and relationally. Thus, “one flesh” carries a sense of full, inseparable unity. This concept is not momentary; it reflects an ongoing state of identity shared between husband and wife."

Oaths and Unity, sticking together can be pretty important to people, 'especially back then, I'd think. Useful for surviving in the world.

Maybe, I don't know what Personal Messages might have gone about.

If mistakes were made, I suspect they were made at the start, rather than the end,
Maybe there could have been more conversation and agreement on the Moderation vision and plan.

I admire RM/AR's 'energy and amount of activity,
But their interpersonal style and vision for DART, is not the one I think I would use or encourage in other Moderators.

I think a Mod should be polite, objective and follow the rules laid out by the site.
Even better if they are able to read a room and apply the law tactfully.

I think Savant could end up doing rather well, they also bring to mind other additional qualities, interest in debate, possible an amount of free time.
Lot of votes on debates, assumably a good understanding of debate fundamentals.

I 'like debate, but I've no deep education in it, and none formal.
Not that I know 'what education others have, but assumably 'some were in debate clubs in school or college.

Personally I engage with voters in my debates, whether for me or against me, out of curiosity, and a desire to learn.

But yeah, one 'does see debators at times who harass anyone who votes against them.
I don't think they're that 'common though,
They're 'also easy enough to deal with, ask them to stop, block or report them if they spam too much of an annoyance.
As bsh1 says in comment #2,

And it 'is better to have better education than worse, even if exceptions of success exist.
Still, individual effort is important, though how individuals come to try, might also be something we can encourage.
