@AustinL0926
divisiveness is not the issue for me. Taking forever to decide is. I'd like to see a quick conclusion and take steps to ensure we find out 5 minutes after voting closes who won.   The reason for the new voting policy is fairness and perhaps tie breaking ideals can be removed from here and saved for a future president to deal with or for the site to deal with independently from me. I want more feedback from others before altering the proposal to accommodate your request. if a lot of people feel the same as you or very few people respond to this thread, I will alter the policy.

me and RM if tied would have had a runoff that resulted in another tie. Possibly anyway I had a few people reach out to me after the election regretting that they logged into the site too late to vote but thankful I won, but in general people don't change their mind.

I will implement your first suggestion and see if we can get some ideals on how to break ties. perhaps the last president can be a tie breaker vote or perhaps I can work with the mods to go around policy and ask them to begin a tradition of not voting until the last hour, so they can personally make sure the election does not tie.

I wouldn't be surprised if TWS and Roosovelt tried to get each other banned on the first day of the new policy as it's currently worded, lol.
I will modify the language thanks for your support.

I don't want to cross contaminate this thread but I don't find that result to be harmful to the site, not that I see it happening

Them making fair decisions is why I prefer to keep them as tie breakers because of their fairness. Do you have any suggestions to handle ties if the moderators aren't the ones doing the tie breakers?

Try to mention every issue you see with it at once. I have no problem doing 200 rewrites if need be but I don't want to unneccesarily do a rewrite if the opinion could have been shared earlier or if no changes will make the people advocating for the changes happy.

will swapping around that language help you vote for the policy when it is submitted for referendum or meep approval? To me they essentially mean the same thing so I don't mind switching the language around but I don't want to get into debates over minor things when the big issue is how terrible the current COC is.

+++Presidential Update 2/26+++
Dear members of Debateart.com,

I wanted to take a moment to provide an update on the progress we've made towards the goals outlined in my previous address. Firstly, I'm happy to announce that we have made great strides in phase one of our plan found here https://www.debateart.com/forum/topics/8762-presidential-update-1-52
, which focused on overhauling our moderation policies to ensure the smooth running of the site even with an influx of new members. We have submitted for discussion some future voting and moderation policies, and we're hopeful that we'll be able to implement these changes soon.

I also wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to tejretics for taking it upon himself to create a new debate tournament on the site. This type of initiative and dedication is exactly what we need to keep growing and improving as a community.
https://www.debateart.com/forum/topics/8867-tejreticss-restricted-topics-tournament

Lastly, I want to thank Mike, the site owner, for beginning the process of completely overhauling the site to make it better. This is no small task, and we appreciate the work that he and the rest of the team are putting in.

As we move forward, I want to encourage all of you to continue to share your feedback and ideas with us. Together, we can make Debateart.com the best platform for online debate and discussion.

Additionally, I am excited to announce that we will be working on creating a DART university to train interested members in the culture of the site, such as critical thinking skills, debating skills, and fallacies. If you're interested in helping with this project, please reach out to me.

Dart University is the only part of phase 1 that is left to be completed, and we have a whole month to get it done in order to meet the timeline mentioned in the first address. After that we will be moving to phase 2 and hopefully I can share with you a more detailed outline of what phase 2 involves in the upcoming weeks.

Thank you all for being a part of this community and for your continued support.
Best regards, Wylted

+++++New voting election voting policy community discussion+++
I would like to discuss altering the election voting policy in the following ways to be submitted for an upcoming meep or referendum. Feedback is appreciated so the policy can pass with wide site approval as opposed to merely winning by a slim margin.

This just refers to the voting process of the election and any other discussion of election rules should be done in another thread.

VOTING POLICY (election)

  1. Voters must have a registered account on DebateArt.com that is at least 90 days old to be eligible to vote.
  2. Voters must have made at least 25 non-spam posts on the site to be eligible to vote.
  3. Voters must not have engaged in any serious rule violations, such as doxxing, plagiarism, or multiple account usage, within the 90 days leading up to the election.
  4. Voters must not be moderators or site administrators.
  5. Voters must be actively engaged in the site community, meaning they have logged in and participated in discussions within the past 30 days.
  6. In case of a tie, moderators and site administrators will have the final vote.
A policy such as above would create a more fair election process and in case of close elections will allow for an immediate resolution and finality to the election.

I think I mostly agree with this although I find “bad person
I specifically defined bad person in the post to remove the subjective nature of the term

That is possible I must admit that I found it rather vague and I can’t identify a thesis in your post, perhaps you could elucidate.
The thesis was that my mind can be changed and then I went through the steps on how to do that and used some examples of conspiracies that are popular in real life to illustrate certain points.

This was a response to you stating ideologues and conspiracy theorists can't be reasoned with.

If someone has a problem with the title or opinion of another, accept the position and debate.
If you can't handle other peoples opinions i'm surprised you have lasted this long with the different opinions in society.

The proposed policy mentions that no subject is taboo. The title changes would be things like a debate titled "niggers deserve slavery" would be changed to "African Americans deserved slavery" . It wouldn't be steps to change what the debate or thread is about.

Note I will edit the term discriminatory language out. The policy needs to be somewhat vague so it is practical to use but discriminatory language can be used by future moderators incorrectly.

If that was the case, 50% of the userbase would be banned on the first day.

I disagree. Some vocal users who created 5 threads a day might fall into that category but their threads and presence drowns out intelligent discussion

I am going to propose for a meep in the near future the moderation policy below among other things as part 1 of the plan that was outlined in the first presidential address.

This post is just about feedback on the proposed moderation policy so it can be altered to fit the will of the majority and succeed when offered as a MEEP.

The community's philosophy on moderation is split into two camps. Camp A wants a policy that will elevate the level of conversation on the site as well as guarantee a mutual respect among site users. Camp B prioritizes freedom of speech in regards to making sure no topic is considered taboo. Hopefully the policy we ultimately submit for the MEEP process will make both camps of people happy. Without further Ado

I also have issues with the official record being contradictory or having holes in it. For example with the Holocaust I seem to see stories of every prominent nazi woman being a sexual sadist. Clearly a ridiculous thing. I talked to a history professor who claims that this labeling of women as sexual sadists is incorrect, but doesn't explain how this obvious lie in the official narrative would need to be made if the events were true and actually happened.

Debating with fanatics, be they political, religious or those driven by conspiracy theories will ultimately be doomed to failure
I am driven by conspiracy theories and disagree. I will explain how you can change my mind from being less conspirational.

Premise 1- bad people in general are good at obtaining power due to morals not being a handcuff on them.

Bad in this context is defined as people who may have good goals but no moral hindrances to achieve those goals even when the goals are altruistic.

I have personally been close to powerful people who have shown me their dark side, but there are studies that support these people are less inclined to help a stranger in need for example, drive more aggressively etc. It's just much easier to get power if you aren't held back by normal morals.

Premise 2- these people behave in a type of silent agreement. They have similar goals and will not call out anybody pursuing their same goals for having an ends justify the means philosophy.

We can see this by looking at the collective effects of their policies. For example the numerous policies which are working in concert to slow population growth or reverse it such as the promotion of homosexuality, transgenderism which sterilizes children, euthenasia, abortion, bill gates efforts to slow population growth in 3rd world countries via more ethical behaviors than ones mentioned prior to that.

Conclusion- conspiracies happens as a result of collectively staying out of each other's ways for to meet similar ends.

You could prove me wrong in the following ways.

1. Show that the people in positions of power are either equally as moral as society in general which would require disproving studies I have access to as well as explaining how morality is helpful at obtaining power and money.

2. Show that powerful people working towards the same ends often will try to prevent people with a similar end goal from achieving that goal from unethical means.

For example bill gates wants to slow population growth, showing him opposing abortion, gender reassignment surgery etc. I would need to also see the individual powerful person is not just a lone operator and it is normal to oppose those wanting the same ends as them.

3. You could also change my mind by showing that powerful people have less power than they project.

Just as an insight into how a conspiracy theorist picks up knowledge if it helps.

Since powerful people can control things often through a silent conspiracy than things like media cannot be trusted to so we would use the concept of "cui Bono" to determine the goals of those in charge.

For example studies on man made global warming can't be trusted because of ideology driving the scientists and the fact that contrarian opinions are hidden or cause people to lose their careers instead of being met with actual arguments and rebuttals. Typically the truth can win arguments and not need to silence contrary opinions.

I am not stuck on any belief. I just have an extreme distrust of those who have power, wealth and status because I think to get those things you have to be a bad person

@Intelligence_06
Xi is not at fault, it is just some at the regional level and even at inspecting agencies at a national level(especially on art works) really are terrible people(some of them are not only greedy, they are western spies)
While obviously both countries will have spies implanted in the other country, this is hard to believe that it will be common. It's got to be hard for America to get spies implanted in China since they will definitely be executed without a trial for even a hint of suspicion. While Chinese spies assuming they are using honey pot traps and the like can basically spy and the only punishment in the United States is likely deportation.

There is no way the United is getting a lot of spies in under those circumstances. We have more spies in allied nations like France than China, it is just these regimes use that paranoia as an excuse to hunt down people they view as threats to the regime. People who are undoubtedly good for the country and just bad for the regime but bad for the regime none the less

I wouldn't advocate switching to renewables. Not prematurely anyway. The concern is that the countries industrialization is stuck in the early 20th century instead of being modern.

China has traditionally made their numbers a competitive advantage which does not work in the modern age. It is why a tiny country like Japan outperforms them.

And you willhave another angle for criticism for that theyshouldn't have rushed
.I think it's more important to criticize what is occurring currently than finger pointing about past decisions. this is where I think we disagree. You think the CCP makes perfect decisions and I think that people are imperfect and make imperfect decisions and should always strive to be better. Criticism is a good thing, all governments should welcome criticism.

Oh, and let's not forget punishing Disney for exercising free speech.

It's actually pretty rare for republicans to punish businesses like that, it's usually liberals who use ideology to control businesses.

Basically though republicans want businesses to be politically neutral, Disney decided to not be politically neutral, and they weren't so much punished as they were forced to pay taxes like every other business in Florida is required to do.

If anything you can call it closing a tax loophole

  • I think the term “woke” has become pretty meaningless and is just another of those words with negative connotations that are used to dismiss opinions we may disagree with without having to engage anyone in debate.
I am going to disagree here. Those who are referred to as woke normally are the ones using "social justice" to avoid debate.

Bring up an argument and you are white splaining or man splaining. Use cancel culture tactics to maintain a bubble of just one opinion on social media platforms. Think it was 5 million people dead in the Holocaust and not 6 million than they use that wrong think to shut you up. Wokism is a crusade against debate.

It's not much different than the moral outrages of conservatives in prior decades who heavily censored television and comics.

Take a look at any woke movement such as fat acceptance and you can see exactly how it's most vocal advocates debate.

Being too heavy can lead to a lot of negative health outcomes.

FA woke person- well actually BMI was created by a white person for white bodies so it is racist to think thin is better. *proceeds to ban sensible medical professional from chat.

Perhaps woke is becoming meaningless as a catch all for anybody with leftist leanings, but I don't think it's there yet and can still be a useful term.

Men do tend to have a more competitive and aggressive nature though.
You know nothing about women. Even their friendships are competitions. I compete with my friends sure, but i don't revolve everything with them around competition.

Women are so competitive that they will even sync up their periods with close friends to avoid them stealing their man. They try to put dress their friends, out socially maneuver. While men just enjoy the company of friends.

They are ruthless and will cut down their friends the second they walk away, unless their normally state is interrupted by a patriarchal society.
