How are you defining success?
The dictionary.com  states "the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's goals. the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.'

Thesaurus.com says "
  • achieve.
  • benefit.
  • flourish.
  • gain.
  • get.
  • overcome.
  • prevail"
How do you define "success"?
It seems you are defining success in strictly financial terms, as if avoiding poverty completely defines success.  I think there are other considerations such as health, happiness, love, etc.

Every tyrannical regime needs to make an example to keep people from getting the wrong idea. For Hitler, it was the night of long knives. For Stalin, the great purges. For Mao, the "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution," For South Africa apartheid, the imprisonment of Mandela.
These are the ways in which oppressive regimes historically sought to maintain power through fear, violence, and the suppression of dissenting voices. These tactics aimed to discourage opposition and maintain control by making examples of those who dared to challenge the established order.

For the Biden administration, the imprisonment of Trump.
Why should Trump be above the law?

There's a million racist web sites and Einstein here goes to a DEBATE site expecting an echo chamber for racist hate speech.
When you just say "racist" and nothing else, that's you desperately hoping for an echo chamber.
I just love how racists spew hatred towards minorities, attacking, disparaging, and disenfranchising others untill they hear the word racist, and then they whine like crybaby little bitches, "boo hoo hoo, I'm a victim, they are discriminating against me".  What a joke.
Yet I'm not laughing, in fact what you're doing here is quite disgusting.

"spew hatred" "attacking" "disparaging" "disenfranchising"

The claim is that a falsehood has been advanced. You are in essence claiming that the OP claim is so false that OP knows its false and FURTHER that the only possible motivation for knowingly making false claims is racial hatred. You don't discuss reasons, you don't care about the enormous burden of proof you incur by such assertions.

That attitude doesn't belong on a debate site, it is deep within the definition of bigotry, and it is a threat to human enlightenment in general.
I like it when like thirty of you guys get out of a tiny car, that is the best.

Can you name one person that was convicted for insurrection due to Jan 6?

Over 1,030 people have been charged in connection to the insurrection,  at least 570 have pleaded guilty, more than 300 have been sentenced to  incarceration. The longest sentence — 18 years — went to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, who was convicted of seditious conspiracy.

Five people died as a result of the failed insurrectionist attempt, the Republican Party officially declared the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and events that led to it “legitimate political discourse,” and rebuked two lawmakers in the party who have been most outspoken in condemning the deadly riot and the role of Donald Trump.

An appeal to semantics and legal technicalities doesn't change the facts.

The 12 Traits of Epistemic Power - Cultivating Epistemic Empowerment - The Tools of Reality
I truly do wish that people would get used to me using ChatGPT to clearly express my thoughts. I am a genuine person truly seeking to better understand the world. Please acknowledge I am not intending to advertise this by any means, but I do wish you to recognize me as a person who genuinely thinks for himself. This constant connotation that I am masked by an AI is truly degrading, as I consider myself to be more intelligent than ChatGPT even though it is more knowledgeable. I recently started a YouTube channel of my personal journey of philosophy, it is meant to be a non-certified course of my personal thoughts to direct oneself towards fully understanding the world. I'm hoping this will settle the bot issue and contribute to this community's journey towards understanding.
The channel name is "JBP Fan Club," and I am Timothy Macfarlane. Hopefully now you will see me for who I am.

Please understand, my journey is to understand the world to the fullest extent that I can, and I believe that this is done by creating a community of individuals who can productively work together and share their experiences to grasp a better understanding of reality. This is why my only intention is to cultivate a productive and positive environment between the users, and I do not wish to have any negative conflicts between us, only constructive disputes. Please, let us put this in the past.
Why does recognition that we are communicating with a bot bother you so much?

It strikes me as disingenuous that you hide it and then become upset when it is recognized, is it your intent to be deceptive?

Is Crtical-Tim a bot or what?

I am most certainly human as you would notice if you have used ChatGPT. It has the inability to make decisions on anything related to decisive perspective or philosophy, which is precisely why I have to create all my own arguments, but I will say I learn a lot from ChatGPT as I create my argument. Following that I have it rewrite my understanding to a more concise and accurate way, such as Grammarly would if I paid for it, but I don't, and ChatGPT is free. I really would appreciate people getting over it though, I'd like to have more productive and effective communication towards understanding the world rather than repeating what's already apparent.
That's what I thought, ChatGPT is a bot, and it reads more like a bot than a human.

People have never been exposed to as many sensory stimuli as they are today. We do not, however, consciously perceive the majority of the sensory impressions that bombard us. Our brain processes these impressions without us noticing. But where does the brain decide which sensory information should reach our consciousness and which should not? Tests on the brains of macaques have shown that neurons in at least two regions of the brain, the temporal and frontal lobes, are responsible for this.
Scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Tübingen measured the activity of neurons in the brains of macaques while the animals observed images on a screen. The results show that neurons in one part of the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex are active when the monkeys are aware of what they have seen. Therefore, this region of the brain appears to play a role in deciding which impressions reach our consciousness.
Thus the content of consciousness is based in two different brain regions. The decision as to which sensory impressions will reach our consciousness is not made by a single region. Instead, neurons from different regions must cooperate for this purpose. With the help of the tests on the monkeys, it is possible to establish how consciousness arises. This knowledge could benefit people with impaired consciousness in the future.
I understand thatthere are physical aspects and neural correlates of consciousness in the brainof a human being, that just doesn’t speak to your contention that"the brain is required for any kind of conscious experience".Referencing a single species example does nothing to refute the observationsthat there is a continuum of increasing degrees of consciousness across theentire spectrum of life, not just in organisms possessing brains. It hasclearly achieved its highest degrees in organisms with brains, but it is notexclusive to those organisms by any stretch of the imagination.

Seen in its entirety, seen the way evolution demands that wesee it; there is a temporal direction to life, it constantly progresses towardsgreater complexity and higher forms of sentience, from inanimate matter, tolife, to thought, to self-reflective consciousness. A majority of the historyof the growth and development of consciousness occurred in organisms withoutbrains, in evolutionary terms, it culminated in brains fairly recently.

We can narrow down the seat of consciousness even further. Take, for example, experiments in which different stimuli are presented to the right and the left eyes. Suppose a picture of Donald Trump is visible only to your left eye and one of Greyparrot only to your right eye. We might imagine that you would see some weird superposition of Trump and Greyparrot. In reality, you will see Trump for a few seconds, after which he will disappear and Greyparrot will appear, after which he will go away and Trump will reappear. The two images will alternate in a never-ending dance because of what neuroscientists call binocular rivalry. Because your brain is getting an ambiguous input, it cannot decide: Is it Trump, or is it Greyparrot?
How does that phenomenon "narrow down the seat of consciousness"?

Semantics.
Good point, yes, we communicate withwords.

A response to a stimulus, awareness, consciousness..

One can just pick where one wishes to insert rudimentary brain or brain into the evolutionary sequence.
I suppose that’s one way to do it, another way wouldbe to use logic and science to observe, evaluate the facts, and gain knowledge.

Nonetheless, consciousness is simply a word that defines a highly developed mental capability, relative to a highly developed organic computer.
Yeah, except “computer” is a hopelesslyinadequate analogy for mind, computers simply calculate, they have no self-awareness,no sapient qualities, none of the emergent properties that distinguish thehuman brain. Do you really think computers are conscious?

Switch off the computer though
And it's no longer conscious?

And

Well, despite the efforts of a few theatrical mediums, no one as yet has managed to make contact.
That is a statement of your faith that ignores millions of reported observations to the contrary, which is fine, I would consider one who denies facts, observations, and science in favor of their faith to be a devout religious person, please understand, it is certainly not my intent to offend or disparage your religious beliefs, I’m just addressing the above issue in a scientific manner.

Given everythingwe understand about consciousness, it seems pretty clear that the brain isrequired for any kind of conscious experience
That is not a “given”by any stretch of the imagination.

A simpledictionary definition of “consciousness” is an "awareness of the worldaround you", that’s what you lose when you lose consciousness.  Ifyou approach the question in a logical, scientific manner, devoidof any philosophical, metaphysical implications, or "religious" presuppositions, then thepresence of “consciousness” can only be observed to be the ability to perceive sensory stimuli and respond bypurposeful movement or by a behavioral change.

If that is the case, then the evolution oflife clearly shows a continuum of consciousness that evolved over time, the ability to respond specificallyto the environment, and to act creatively is a property of life at all levels, obviously present in organisms long before the evolution of anything we can call a brain.  Single celled organisms with nothing even resembling arudimentary brain or nervous system show themselves to be sensate beings withcomplex behavior.

Studies have shown that prokaryotes such as bacteria can respond to a broad range of stimuli, demonstrateelementary forms of “memory”, and engage in purposeful activities. They have shownthemselves to be extraordinarily perceptive, demonstrating elaborate behavioralresponses and adaptations to a wide range of attractants and repellants andother environmental stimuli such as light. They have complex signalingcapabilities, show the ability to communicate, and change their behavior basedon population size, which implies some kind of quorum sensing ability andclearly demonstrates social behavior on at least a rudimentary level. They havebeen proven to have some form of memory and a rudimentary ability to learn, andthe discriminatory ability to “choose” among alternatives, regarding amongother things, gene expression. They clearly integrate these capabilities into aself-organized and sensate being that in at least an extremely attenuated wayis perceiving, discriminating, remembering, and even “thinking”, on some levelit is conscious.

Over time, nucleated cells emergedwith a greater range of senses and responses, colonies of single-celled creaturesevolved into multicellular organisms with greater degrees on sentienceand a broader ability to respond.Cells emerged that specialized in sensing different aspects ofthe environment, consolidating into sensory organs, nervous systems evolved toprocess and distribute among multiple sensory organs, processing this data anddistributing to other parts of the organism, eventually the flow of informationrequired a central processing point, and brains evolved.  Seen in its entirety, seen the way evolution demands that wesee it; there is a direction to life, it constantly progresses towards greatercomplexity and higher forms of sentience, from inanimate matter, to life, tothought, to self-reflective consciousness.  The data and observations clearly demonstrate thatconsciousness is not contingent on brain, the evolution of consciousness began long before the evolution of brains, and therefore cannot be dependent on brain.

@Greyparrot
Do you think woke has any elements of race to the term?
Yes, of course I do, it originated within in black culture to refer to people who are awake to racial prejudice and discrimination, it was about awareness in terms of social justice.  But now it's expanded to be more comprehensive, includes LGBTQ, etc., but it’s still about prejudice and discrimination.

If you think the right’s use of the term woke is not primarily a racially charged term, then you aren’t paying attention, the right has gone all in on white identity politics, and the word woke has evolved to consolidate the prejudice and discrimination against the “them” of their “us/them” thinking.

First, note that “woke” is an adjective which originated in progressive circles.yh black communit
Interesting, the popularity of the word clearly came out of the black community, I'm not sure "progressive circles" is the best  description of it's origination, the people who use it, would use a different term than "progressive circles".

It seems to have usurped the label of “political correctness” or “politically correct.” I would define “woke” as possessing the belief that there is an oppressor/oppressed power structure based in immutable characteristics. It comprises these concepts:
ve
Anti racism
Critical race theory
Diversity, equity, and inclusion
Intersectionality
Good answer,  I do believe it's predominantly used as code word forblack people.
Perthehaps it includesce gender theory and the trans rights movement as well, but the immutability of trans identity is in question.
Yeah,I think it started as a racist dog whistle, and now it's become a label for the "them" of a bigot's "us/them" thinking.

Florida high schools are dropping AP psychology
“The state of Florida has encouraged schools to teach the course without objectionable material about sexual orientation and gender identity. But the College Board, which runs AP, says these topics are central to the study of psychology and cannot simply be excised. Last week, the College Board said the course was “effectively banned” and advised districts not to offer it.“

Now apparently high school students are too tender to learn about gay people.

Florida and it’s glorious wack job Governor are a disgrace .

Problem of evil does not disprove omnibenevolent God, not even close.
If trueintelligence involves the ability to view and understanding widely differentthings from multiple different perspectives, an aptitude for grasping a widerange of truths, relationships, and meanings, and the capacity for abstract andsymbolic thought, then it follows logically that the contention that one canreduce reality to only one of its modes, to know it in only one of its forms,is an unintelligent claim.

Science doesnot contend that reality can be reduced to a single ontological level, on thecontrary, science asserts that reality is in fact, multileveled, it assertsthat the four dimensions of existence that we call reality, are contingent andrelative to a greater reality of more dimensions. Science quite explicitlypoints to a greater reality of which we cannot have certain knowledge, and ofwhich we can only speak in metaphorical ways.

@ADreamOfLiberty
We left the topic of 1930s Europe already, buddy. You asked, in very general terms:

How can we know how much paranoia is ideal?
You just don't like people bringing up Jan 6.
I don't like trite answers with no roots in reason or principle to be utilized.

I'll answer for me and you can keep hiding under a rock.

The ideal level of paranoia is the amount that prevents great violation of rights than it causes.

Reason is man's only means of knowledge. We know what to fear by reason, and when the evidence of history both ancient and contemporary is rationally analyzed patterns of behavior both individual and collective emerge.

One of those patterns is that censorship is never done by people who can win the argument. Another is that when a series of so called coincidences always serve the interests of a particular community it's probably because of a conspiracy.

Want an example? The removal of native Americans. You know they never just said "Well we want this land so get out", always there was some series of events; some complicated story that ends in war that ends in land annexation.

The vast majority of the left-tribe now takes for granted this is a conspiracy, that is they have a conspiracy theory... and in this case they are right because logic rules other possibilities to be unlikely due to the number of simultaneous coincidences.

The conspiracy looks like this: Never waste a crises, use any excuse, distract from your crimes and emphasize the enemy's, never give up what you've taken.

Conspiracies don't have to be complicated. The truth of them often leak out all over the place. Hitler basically outlined his plan in a public book, and people still didn't believe.

You told me it must be terrifying to believe in all the conspiracies I do. Yes, the world is terrifying; and one of the most terrifying things about it is that people like you (for some reason I cannot comprehend) cannot learn from history. You put a barrier up in your mind between the past and present, thinking that somehow the forces which shaped history are no longer present.

Conspiracy has been ever present in our past. To believe it no longer exists is a terrifying act of voluntary ignorance.
I love it when whack job conspiracy theorists talk about reason, and tell us we can't comprehend, it's soooo cute I can hardly stand it.

I'll bet there's a unicorn on your lunchbox.
