If you ban earthquakes, then only criminals would have earthquakes leaving law abiding citizens defenseless.

The solution to earthquake deaths is more earthquakes.

So obviously we shouldn’t have any restrictions or laws with regard to explosives.

Anyone should be able to go to Home Depot or Ace Hardware and buy all the dynamite, C4 and nitro they want. Because those explosives are relatively harmless on their own - it’s  only when people get involved they become a hazard. Freedom!
Oh good, we can shop at Nukes R Us now.

correct, if people obeyed God and repented, earthquakes wouldnt happen. if people put their house near a fault line, its not the earths fault that they live there.

There are more guns in America than people.
That's not what you said, you said "393 million Americans owned guns".

nonsensical solution for a nonsensical problem.
use your brain for 15 seconds. Guns dont kill people, people kill people.
Guns don't kill people, ammunition kills people,  at current consumption rates there is a four year supply of ammunition, if we outlaw guns it won't be long till they won't have ammunition.

if we get rid of guns they either get them illegally or use other means.
you cant stop murderers from murderering by taking away a weapon, you gotta do something TO the murderer.
Yeah, don't try to stop murders, wait for them to happen and then do something LOL.

jesus christ never killed anyone. so for the person to claim they are a christian (follower of christ) and they killed someone? they are a liar.
Christians don't do anything bad because when they do they automatically become an atheist LOL.

if you wanna troll post then expect troll posts back.

@YouFound_Lxam
Here is what happened:

A 28-year-old woman, who identified as a man shot 6 children at a Christain school in Tennessee and fatally shot three of them. This school was K-6 therefore considered an elementary school.

The woman was armed with two assault rifles and a handgun. The woman was pronounced dead by law enforcement at the scene.
Thank you for telling us what we were discussing.

First off, this would be considered a hate crime, given the person's identity as a trans-man, and it was targeted at a Christian school. Christianity fights against the transgender ideology, so it would be safe to assume this was the motive.
Guns don't kill children, transgender people kill children LOL.

As for why the suspect targeted children, that could be a sign of some sort of mental illness. Suprise, surprise...............
Gee, you think school shootings could be a sign of some sort of mental illness, really?

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) this is the first case in the U.S. of a woman school shooter. Now isn't that surprising?
Does no one connect the dots. The first woman to shoot up an elementary school identifies with the trans movement. Does no one see the correlation of mental illness, and the transgender movement.
The way you connect dots could be a sign of some sort of mental illness.

Now as for guns. School shootings are very sad. But the answer to that isn't more strict gun laws. The answer is to implement more officers and security for schools, specifically officers with guns to fight back against the shooter.
Evidence has shown that just an officer's presence can cause a threat to leave.
Thinking that the solution to gun violence is more guns could be a sign of some sort of mental illness.

If we were to take away guns from the people, that would cause more harm than good.
I mean think about it.
Stalin took the guns from his people.
Hitler took the guns from his people.
Mao Zedong took the guns from his people.
Fidel Castro took the guns from his people.
Hugo Chávez took the guns from his people.

In every instance where guns are taken away, or made completely illegal, bad things happen.
Yeah, that and in every instance where guns are not taken away, or made completely legal, bad things happen.

Is safe to say that most Americans who owns guns, use them, not to attack others, but to defend themselves.
OK, and they are defendng themselves from attackers using spoons, right?

2.5 million incidents involving guns in the U.S. are defense related. And most of those don't end up with death.
393 million Americans own guns in the U.S., yet you don't see the purge happening in the U.S. only a couple sad and horrible cases. We should do our best to prevent these cases with more defense, not less.
I see, you think there are 60 million more American that own guns, than there are Americans, so yeah, the solution to the gun violence problem is clearly more guns and more Americans,  but I'm thinking that thought process could be a sign of some sort of mental illness.

If guns were really that bad, and 393 million Americans owned guns, we would all be dead right now in America.
LOL, how do we defend ourselves from such wierd twisted logic?

I mean again, look what happens when you take the guns:
"According to the The Black Book of Communism, published by Harvard University Press and considered one of the best sources on class-genocide in communist regimes, 20 million people were killed in the Soviet Union under Lenin and Stalin; 65 million people were killed under Mao Tse-tung in Communist China; 2 million killed in Cambodia under Pol Pot; and 150,000 killed in Latin America, most of the victims in Cuba, ruled by Fidel Castro."
The more people killed the more guns are needed, if there were only more gun owners than people in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, bad things wouldn't have happened.

Oh pulease,  this country is polarized between black and white culturally,
I don't dispute the influence of the narrative(s.) But "White" and "Black" are neither so-called "races," nor "cultures." They're narratives.
"Race", "culture" and "narratives" are only social constructs, as are all words, and as such, they have meaning.
and definitions and semantics don't change the reality of the situation,
All arguments are semantic.
Arguments tend to involve opposing views.

and  if we are going to get along, we need to recognize, understand, and accept that reality.
We need only respect each other's discretion to behave ourselves as we see fit.
Just look past the socially constructed categories and recognize that everyone is an individual.

why don't people consider being a christian who thinks the bible is not the exact word of God?
-->
@Tradesecret
by the way, jesus called himself the son of God in verse 36. for those who thought he didnt
The Bible says we are all God's children (1 John 3).

Jesus commonly referred to Himself as "Son of Man", it's unlikely He ever actually referred to Himself as Son of God.
The term "son of God" has more than one meaning.   To suggest it always means the one thing is a simplistic way of reading Scripture.

It refers in some places to the people of Israel. It refers in some places to angelic beings. It refers in some places to kings.

Jesus may or may not have referred to himself as the son of God.  He did call himself a son of man. Probably a reference to Ezekiel either as a man or a priest.

The Pharisees understood these different terms for the Son of God, but they also allowed it to refer to divinity.

Jesus was a Jew. He was not an angelic being. He was a son of David, and potentially a king of the Jews.  Yet the nation of Israel never crowned him even if God anointed him as king and as his Son at his baptism.   At his baptism, God the Father revealed Jesus as his son.  Whereas the prophet John the Baptist, who also was a Levite (probably a priest although this is inferred not testified to) anointed him with water, and the Spirit of God, descended upon him.  Hence, Father, Son and Holy Spirit witnessed this inferred anointing as priest and king.  A sweet and unusual combination of priest and king, Levite and Judahite together.

Jesus on numerous occasions did refer to himself as God. the I AM statements of John are obvious statements of this. The fact that he forgave sins was another. The testimony of the gospels also testify. And why is it he NEVER denied it either?
He denied it in Matthew 23:9,  Luke 18:19, and John 14:28.

Out of curiosity, do you view races to have different psychological tendencies, than one another?
Yes, I do. Different races have different experiential realities that result in different perspectives and different psychological tendencies.

I don't disagree with the conclusion that geographic longstanding groups of people have various tendencies myself.
We are shaped by our experience, culture, environment, and history.  If we are ever going to get along we have to try to understand each other,  and we can't do that by denying differences, we have to value differences.

But I suppose the question comes to mind, because any differences are often unspoken,
I agree, and I think it's important that we talk about it, as uncomfortable as that is, we can't be unified without understanding each other.

Same reason one disagrees with profiling in police stops I imagine,
Hispanic in Texas 'would be more likely to be an illegal immigrant I'd 'think,
But probability not a decent stop reason, for a reason I forget, (I'm rambling)
Racial profiling is wrong, illegal, and ineffective. It violates our Constitution's foundational premise of equal protection under the law to all and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. It's also ineffective. It polarizes communities and alienates law enforcement, hindering policing efforts rather than helping, causing law enforcement to lose credibility and trust among the people they are sworn to protect and serve.

Hey... yes.
I know, I was just joking.

That said, the Irish in that video are a bunch of Dublin knackers getting mad at the wrong people. It's the housing crisis is their problem and the corporate entities buying up all Dublin their actual enemy.

OP and Tommy Robinson are a couple of retards.
That I really know, it's why I don't respond seriously to anything he posts.

There's no devastation in any towns or villages in Ireland. I'm in a idyllic little town not far out of Dublin myself. That's a rough Dublin lot in that video. Nice company for you.
My best friend went to Ireland for his honeymoon over 40 years ago, he told me the small towns are just as idyllic as the movies make them look and I've wished I could live there ever since.  No offense intended, just a bad joke.

@Athias
I've always been able to distinguish between the voices of so-called "Black" adults and every other demographic (I can do this as well for so-called "Hispanic" adults) whether they were speaking English, French, Spanish, etc. In my opinion, it's not just "accent," which focuses more on enunciation and inflections,  or "Ebonics," which is just the content of speech;  It's more the tone and perturbation of their voices. (I could tell that Bryant Gumbel and Larry Elder were "men of color" before seeing their faces.)
What Athias said, in 40 years in business I've recognized whatever that distinctive tonal quality is hundreds of times, very rarely was I ever wrong when we later met.  Whatever that quality is, it comes through no matter the accent, enunciation, volume, pace, pitch, rate, rhythm, articulation, pronunciation, whatever other qualities a voice has, no two voices are the same, but nevertheless, there is something recognizable in a black person's voice that I can hear almost all the time.

That's almost 1.7 billion people,  a fifth of the total world population, where would you get them, where would you put them, how would you feed them, how would they make a living.   I don't really think 1.7 billion homeless starving people will increase the stock market.

truth is not arbitrary
Truth is not arbitrary, bu it is a "relational" term, it relates facts to the conclusions drawn from those facts. The current climate has called into question the very notion of truth by turning claims to truth into little more than power plays.  When people claim that what they say is true, all they are really doing is claiming status for beliefs that advance their agenda.

A correspondence theory of truth is natural, but a correspondence theory of truth calls for representation, and there are many different ways to represent reality, none of which are absolute.  The very nature and use of the word "truth” implies that it is referential to a dynamic; it refers to a relationship between some sort of conception and a reality presumed to be objective, and the very nature of the word dynamic implies it is subject to change with time, place, and progress.  That certainly raises the question as to whether absolute truth is even possible.

Truth lies in a relation between concepts and reality, and the nature of that relation depends on the concepts available, and on the extent to which reality can be depicted accurately in such concepts. It is possible that human language is inadequate to provide a comprehensive and fully adequate description of reality.  Why should the world fit our concepts exactly?  Concepts divide up the world, classify it, and systematize it in specific ways, but our language may not be able to state precisely the one and only way in which reality objectively exists.

The question becomes whether correspondence between thought and reality is even achievable since we are unable to step outside of our mind to compare our thoughts with objective reality.

What about Superposition, in an unobserved state, Schroedinger's cat is both  dead and alive, causation that is retroactively dependent upon  observation when the box is opened is not conventional causation .
This interpretation of quantum mechanics is nonsense.
OK, and which interpretation of quantummechanics resolves the superposition paradox again?

Schrodinger created the example of the cat to demonstrate it is nonsense.
No, Schrödinger's thought experiment was toillustrate the paradox of quantum superposition, he was demonstrating anexample of how conventional causation does not apply to quantum physics.

The only people who think the cat's life depends upon the box being opened are people who don't understand the  experiments and mathematics of quantum mechanics.
Schrödinger used it in conversation withEinstein, do you think Erwin Schrödinger and Albert Einstein are two of thepeople who people who don’t understand the experiments and mathematics ofquantum mechanics?

“If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.” - Richard Feynman

The state of the cat depends on the wave-collapse of the photon which triggers the Geiger counter. The wave collapse in turns depends on the electromagnetic wave encountering a locality where a quantum of energy could change state. The only "observation" necessary is the "observation" of a single electron in an electric potential.
Yes, and the underlying concept of the thoughtexperiment is the probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics, conventionalcausation is not probabilistic, it is deterministic.

"observation" was a poor word and people have been paying for it ever sense as they are duped by mystics, fake experts, and science-communicator-showmen.
Oh please, quantum superposition is afundamental principle of quantum mechanics, do you really want to call PaulDirac, Erwin Schrödinger, NielsBohr, , Louis de Broglie, Max Born, WernerHeisenberg, Wolfgang Pauli, Richard Feynman some of the“fake experts” of quantum physics.

The traditional interpretation of ThomasYoung's iconic double-slit experiment demonstrates that the photon not onlygoes through both slits; it simultaneously takes every possible trajectory, notexactly what I would call “conventional causation”.

What about entanglement,  nonlocality implies instantaneous data transfer where sending and recieving information at different locations at the same time (in a Minkowski spacetime), violates conventional causality as it is defined in special relativity.
No more than the wave collapse phenomenon itself, which could be described as "instantly" communicating from the point of collapse to everywhere else the wave suddenly disappears.

Furthermore instantaneous communication does not violate conventional causality or the mathematics of general relativity.
Nonsense, the finite speed of informationtransfer is foundational to the mathematics of the Theory of Relativity,without it you don’t get Lorentz transformation and the mathematics of the Theoryof Relativity falls apart.

If you have heard that traveling faster than the speed of light means time travel it is almost certainly due to the flawed analysis linked to in post #22.

So now Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking are two “fake experts” that don't understand Relativity?

“People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” - Albert Einstein

“Time travel used to be thought of as just science fiction, but Einstein’s general theory of relativity allows for the possibility that we could warp space-time so much that you could go off in a rocket and return before you set out.” - Stephen Hawking

The error that allows for the twin paradox is identical to the error that leaves some to believe that a moving reference frame has access to the past. Consider this simple example:

Relative to Earth a ship travels at the speed of light and sends a signal back to Earth at the speed of light. Following the false projections shown in the link above would imply the message was received exactly when the ship left Earth. As if moving back to Earth undid the time spent as well as the displacement.
The “twin paradox” of Relativity is a matterof time dilation rather than superluminal signaling, it results from thedifference in the elapsed time of the two twins, and it demonstrates Relativity’stheoretical violation of conventional causality.

It is (or should) be obvious that the message sent back travels only at the speed of light as seen in Earth's reference frame. The error implies that a ship traveling at the speed of light looks behind itself and sees the past and not only that it can send objects and energy into the past by shooting them out the back. The ship doesn't perceive anything behind it. It has been redshifted to darkness (no waves are catching up). It has NO information.
The asymmetry in the paradox is that one twinleaves the other twin’s reference frame and comes back, theoretically, one twinis now younger than the other, the actual paradox relates to which twin isyounger.

All i’ll say is quantum physics doesn’t entirely play by conventional causation.
I'm asking for the scenario which doesn't play by conventional causation.
Here's a couple:

What about Superposition, in an unobserved state, Schroedinger's cat is both  dead and alive, causation that is retroactively dependent upon  observation when the box is opened is not conventional causation .

What about entanglement,  nonlocality implies instantaneous data transfer where sending and recieving information at different locations at the same time (in a Minkowski spacetime), violates conventional causality as it is defined in special relativity.

End the vaccine mandates!
-->
@TheUnderdog
There are no current vaccine mandates in NYC, the last to be removed were City Emplyees and school staff, removed early February, all others were removed more than a year ago.
Oh; if the mandates are gone, victory.

There are very few vaccine mandates in effect nationally, and they are almost all for health care workers only.
I don’t think someone who spends nearly a decade in post secondary education should be fired from their job over not wanting to be vaccinated.  Especially since over 99% of the people that get COVID survive.
Health care workers are the most likely to contract Covid, and the most likely to spread it to the most vulnerable people, I don't see why "not wanting to be vaccinated" trumps that.

Do you think giving a speeding ticket to someone even though they don't want to go the speed limit is reasonable, especially since 99% of people who speed don't kill anyone?

I hope the mandates are gone, but plenty of people online have wanted there to still be a vacciene mandate on Quora, so I'd figure I don't want people losing their jobs over not being vaccinated.

I live in the Northeast, and no restaurant or anyplace else is asking for vaccines to enter anywhere at this point.
I live in the northeast as well, and most northeast places don't have a mandate, but NYC does and a few smaller cities do as well.  NYC's unemployment rate could be a lot lower if they don't force people to get vaccinated.

Proving Atheists Wrong.
-->
@oromagi
Atheism is too simple:
Atheism turns out to be too simple.
If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning.
Just as if there were no light in the universe, then therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark.
Dark would be without meaning.

  • Here, you are plagiarizing Mere Christianity by CS Lewis.  Please give the credit due to the person who actually wrote the argument you are using.
Word for word:
“Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.” - CS Lewis

The Domino Example:
  • That is the Islamic Kalam Cosmological Argument, popularized by Craig in 1979.
He could have given us the link on this one, and the actual author did in fact identify it as the Kalam argument.

I wish I had a dollar for every genius that has posted the first cause argument without realizing it applies to God too.

Saying "God did it" is no more explanatary than saying "evolution did it".
