Just takes too long. Site is all php and html. All you can get back is full page html on every request, then need to search that. 7k lines on every post.

So I was thinking forum post count is a bit of an abstraction away from real life. Word count however is something we see in a whole lot of places.
I wrote a script to get word count for people's forum posts. It's not exactly correct. I'm only splitting on spaces, so words split by forward slashes or colons will get by. Also, I suck at web development and the only response I could get from this place was html, so that was a pain. (Was gonna do debates and debate comments and questions too until I realised how much of a pain it was.)
RationalMadman has written 983,946 words on the DebateArt forums. That's roughly equivalent to 14 theses or 11 novels, or the entire Harry Potter series.
That's fun, right.

We're looking good, folks. Two strong white men at the helm and one auxiliary brown fellow.
Expect great things to come.

Your score is too high. I need more undesirables to post first so I can get a sense of the scale.
I guess I'll start with RM.
RM: 0

Non-participation in this thread is unacceptable btw.
I might also suggest to whiteflame that a speedy call on this election is in everyone's best interest.

I mean surely RM is Undesirable No 1, Mr President.
I don't think it would do others well to humour his current behaviour either.

Half the drunk these days. Twice the pervert lol. But yeah that was the good old days. Ain't what it used to be.
Nice to see you still kicking anyway. You were a fairly fierce combatant in the philosophy board as I remember it.

@zedvictor4
None of that means anything. I asked you a fairly simple question.
Isn't there redundancy in eating and sex being pleasurable if instinct takes care of our drive to do these things?
Created:
Posted in:
-->
@zedvictor4
So what's the point in these things being pleasurable then? Why layer incentive atop instinct?
Created:
Posted in:
-->
@zedvictor4
You don't think the fact of food being tasty takes care of that? Or sex pleasurable?
Created:

@zedvictor4
The necessity of procreation is instinctive, hence LGBTQ etc.
Says who? Sex is a pretty simple jigsaw puzzle to solve.

@K_Michael
Hunting is usually learned from the parents/pack, so captive-bred predators usually cannot be released to the wild.
That's a great point. Thanks man.

Birds building of nests is an interesting example. Birds are highly intelligent creatures, parrots, pigeons, crows and ravens being high up on any list you'll find on the question of animal intelligence. Why is some "instinct" necessary that these creatures whose physical advantage lies in being out of reach should build houses that are out of reach?
Here's a fun little video: https://i.imgur.com/LXbzy4V.gifv
That bird is very clearly aware of the cat's physical limitations.

@zedvictor4
Religion gets no credence as any sort of science. Instinct does.
Instinct is subconsciously stored operational information.
You've sure shown me.
I just think that along the way intelligence takes over. What's the need of both?
Created:

I can't think of anything that's more pseudoscience than the idea of instinct. I mean there's some parts that are obviously instinct or something just baked into whatever creatures: baby turtles running for ocean immediately after being born; generations of butterflies taking turns flying over and back between places; salmon, whatever they get up to. List goes on. And some creatures aren't much more than automata for sure. But there's so much else that sounds total bullshit. Social and solitary creatures for example. Polar bears living in conditions where food is incredibly scarce, forced apart for a chance at better hunting and because in hunger cannibalism is not unknown. Lions in the savannah, pushed together by all the other big monsters, elephants, crocodiles, hippos, other lions. Tigers solitary for no need of each other, kings of their jungle, their only competition being other tigers. All things that make a whole lot of sense. If you put humans in these animals' positions, we'd do the same of cleverness. But for the animals it's instinct. Then in captivity polar bears and tigers are plenty social. Some instincts.
We observed some crazy shit in nature and took an idea in it and applied it needlessly across the board. The idea also hinders adaptability massively.

@Barney
Curious what you were trying to get it to solve. I'm pretty sure I could direct this thing to write me pretty much anything. Just, ya know, easier to code it yourself sometimes.

@Barney
I use it pretty much everyday to help me code, it's becoming a real crutch already tbh. Stackoverflow recently banned answers by ChatGPT (actually what made me post it here, thinking you guys could ban it) for a supposed high rate of incorrectness, but that's just posturing. ChatGPT will be its usurper. The remembering context thing just makes it that you can drilldown to what you need so easily, it's like having your own dedicated Stackoverflow, ChatGPT with nothing better to be doing than answering your questions and writing your code.
But yes, it is fucking impressive. I've seen people convert whole websites to different languages with it. I've seen people build websites from scratch with it. It's doing half my job for me already tbh. At least, it figures out all the niggly bits. It is a seriously impressive tool.

@Barney
I kind of wish it could just be told to argue any side to something.
It seems a lot more careful these days. I had a lot more fun with it the few days after it was released. Could make it write anything at all.
The real power of it is actually as a developer's tool. This thing can code like nothing else.
Created:

@oromagi
I actually tried to do that but I copied and pasted the thing in full which was too much for it. But as I said, it remembers context. Maybe you could try pasting round by round and getting miniature evaluations in between.

@Intelligence_06
I pasted in Novice's first round in Novice and oro's debate and it made the exact same definitional argument oro and everyone else saw re: slavery is defined as humans owning humans, therefore animals cannot be slaves.
You should try it out, it's pretty nitpicky.

So are any of you using ChatGPT to write your debate rounds yet? I've pasted in a few rounds and asked it to write its own counters and they're seriously impressive. Keeps context too, so further rounds remain impressive/human-like.
Pretty sure you could bot your way high onto the leaderboard with this thing.

I mean Java is definitely the comfiest language. Python is lightweight, but it's like building in bricks and cement vs timber. So much in Python feels hacky also.
Again, no real clue about the merits of languages in comparison to each other. Python is interpreted, Java is compiled. Java is a more powerful language too. That means very little to me in my day-to-day. I just use whatever the fuck I feel like or whatever's supported on whatever VM I'm working on or whatever.
Created:
I know very little about the merits of languages in comparison to each other, but Python is object-oriented, I think even arguably the most object-oriented language as everything is an object, even the classes, which are factories. But yes Python is king for data analysis, scripting, and machine learning.
I personally think loops in Python are ugly, all this in range() and enumerate stuff. Java is a bit verbose and gotta use semicolons and no multiple returns from functions, but it just looks prettier and more solid to me. Classes are prettier too. None of this variable name mangling hackiness. C# also just feels ugly to use, probably because of the .NET and Windows Forms shit. But I fucking love pointers in C++. Apparently Java was invented to fix some security issue with pointers, and I don't know what those were, but I love pointers.

@thett3
As a tangent this is how I know the “woke” type people who are constantly attacking whites for having ancestors who did the things all humans did in those times, or for having difficulty pronouncing someones name actually hate white people. I feel bad making a factual statement about black crime rates for fear it might be misconstrued in a way that could hurt or upset innocent people while they feel absolutely no guilt about throwing out constant agitprop and blood libel.
It's not so difficult to understand. So much on the right is simply antagonistic. Have a look at the memes sadolite likes to post or that YouFound_Lxam's posts. I mean, I don't see anything like that on the left. Roosevelt is hateful, but a righteous fire sort, not a demonic sort. And your positions are reasoned and you're frustrated they won't be heard, but you don't think a lot on the right don't just have a whole lot of fun hating on trans, or gays, or blacks? How did you ever expect to be heard? Hate is loud.
Anyways, hello folks, and Merry Christmas.
