Day 3Morning
In the distance, a raven caws. Morning sunlight, diffused from the ever present cloud cover filters in through the cracks in the boarded up windows.

The issue wasn't your votes, it was you advocating for policy lynches 2 minutes into DP1.

Supa would not make the noob scum.
That's simply not true. Affiliation is determined randomly with no regard for experience.
That leaves only 5 town.
Hmm. So... 5 town, 2 scum.. and 1 noob (you). So you're saying you're not town?
Lynching a likely townie too quickly would be dumb.
You're not more likely to be townie and your reaction to completely normal pressure is starting to smell like scum.
You want claims in case there are roles.
Are you saying your state indicates what role you are?

Clearly GP is town because he's active in this game when he was lurking in the previous game as scum.

It's less fishing for CC's and more locking people to states before we figure out any link between states and affiliation (if any). Mafia is either going to have to risk a fakeclaim that later doesn't fit the theme, or claim their actual state, risking that there is a theme that outs them as mafia.
In this particular set-up, where the theme could be anything and character isn't indicative of role, mass claiming can only help Town. Can you imagine how it would hurt?

@ethang5
Why is it pressure? I feel none.In a game with only 8 people, lynching someone on no info just because you can is a sure way to lose, especially if you're town. You just moved up my list of possible scum.
Mafia is a game of information. There are only three sources of information in the game: how players behave, the results players get from using their roles, and the character/role PMs of each player. We don't have access to the latter two, so the only thing we can do is look at how players behave.
The only tool players have to induce behavior is voting. While any vote is, technically, a "vote to lynch" voting has more utility than just lynching. Namely the aforementioned pressure. I put my vote on you as an indicating that I want you to tell us what your state is from your PM with Supa. The pressure comes from other people adding their vote to the tally, putting you at a real risk of being lynched. Without the actual threat of being lynched, there wouldn't be pressure and therefore people wouldn't ever claim under pressure.
So, no, I don't want to lynch you, I want you to claim. But if you don't claim, then you risk getting lynched. This is rather standard operating procedure when it comes to Mafia, especially DP1. Forcing you to claim locks you down to that claim. If we later discover that some states are town or scum for a reason, it'll either clear you (if town) or condemn you (if mafia). At this point, the most important take-away is how you react to being voted.
You are coming off as paranoid noob. New players tend to be anxious and very reactive. They are overly concerned about getting mislynched by scum when town (and thus treat every vote against them as an attempt by scum to get them killed) or are overly concerned about getting caught by town as scum (and thus treat every vote against them as having been caught).
Thinking I'm scum because I voted you is typical noob behavior, even if it is completely and utterly flawed.
As far as Budda. He unvoted pie, then put his vote on you. Some mods require that players unvote before placing their vote on someone else (for reasons that defy logic). So you will typically see "Unvote VTL someoneelse"

I wounder if this isn't a situation that doesn't call for a mass state claim.
Any state can be justified for just about any role, so state claiming is safer than in other games. The difference between town and mafia states isn't yet apparent, meaning mafia can't be sure as to what a good fake claim is (or even if they need one), so locking people into state claims early is beneficial.
To that end, I am Texas.

Though I will say my PM has no justification for why my state is the role I am.

Ireena and Ismark escort the group to a former reading den with cushioned chairs and a small, but warm, fire glowing in the hearth. She brings some moth-eaten blankets while Ismark brings some wine and a small loaf of bread. The brother and sister then retire for the night while the group sleeps and keeps a look out.

That is the problem! Quite clearly there is a difference between an airline pilot and a balloon - and only an aspiring philosopher would deny it. The major difference (relevant in this context) is that if we were interested in predicting where a balloon will go and where a pilot will go, for a balloon we can pretty much ignore any 'internal states' and only consider outside influences such wind direction. But in the the case of a pilot it is 'internal states' that are paramount.
Yeah, and in the case of a pocket watch the internal states are paramount to predicting its future states, even more so than a human being. Ergo pocket watches have more free will than human beings?
Typical of such an internal states would be 'desires' - say a desire to to go Bordeaux. Which raises the question of what is a 'desire' made of. It is a desire a physical object? If so, I'd like to know how that works! but if a desire isn't a physical object, then there is no guarantee it is subject to ordinary causality.
Whatever it is, there is no indication that the human brain, or human desires, violate laws of causality or physics in any way, shape, or form.

Ireena kneels down next to Snerp and places a hand on his shoulder. This is a tragedy, to be sure, but you acted bravely and with the best intent. That is all we can ask for. None in this town have shown bravery in the longest of time, such that me and my brother have despaired that our father would never be laid to rest.
With you here, I feel that may change. She places a small kiss on his forehead before standing back up.
Ismark: This valley is dark and full of terrors, it is probably best we discuss this further under the light of the morning.

Ismark sighs and looks down. I have heard rumors, of course, but never saw any direct evidence. This village lives in constant fear of Strahd and other evil beings. We are mostly concerned for our own survival. That someone would give away their child is... not unheard of.
Ireena, confused: I don't understand, if she wanted the children alive, why would she kill this one?
Ismark: I don't know... as far as being the town leader, that's... a recent development.
Ireena: Out father was the leader. And he did his best to protect us and this village, much to Strahd's annoyance. A few weeks ago he began assaulting the manor, sending all sorts of beasts and creatures. We held off attack after attack, so forgive us if we were not as involved in local politics as you deem appropriate.
Three days ago, the stress of the attacks was too much and our father suffered a heart attack. So yes, technically, Ismark is burgomaster now.
Ismark: But we can only deal with one problem at a time. Strahd's real goal is Ireena. For some reason, he is infatuated with her, and I want to get her out of here-
Ireena: I refuse to leave while our father is unburied!

(@Earth: What's off is the fact that the outside of the building shows signs of attack, the windows are all boarded up, and there is a dead body in a coffin in a side room).
Ireena rolls her eyes at the fawning and sheathes her sword. Seriously, Ismark. This is who you find?
Ismark smiles sheepishly and holds up his hands. Just wait! They're great adventurers. You should hear the challenges they've overcome just to get here.
Both Ismark and Ireena look at Eikka with horror, at the revelation.
Ismark: Is... is that child dead?! What was it doing in her cart?

The hole in the door is covered up and a few seconds pass before Ismark slowly opens the door. He smiles as he recognizes Roberts, Grahf, and Luraxt.
Ah, good. You've returned and brought friends.
Ismark looks around before letting the group in and swiftly shutting and barricading the door. The interior of the mansion is well furnished, yet thefixtures show signs of great wear. Noticeable oddities arethe boarded-up windows and the presence of holy symbolsin every room. The burgomaster is in a side drawingroom on the floor-lying in a simple wooden coffin surroundedby wilting flowers and a faint odor of decay.
Behind Ismark is a woman clad in ornate armor with a high-collared cloak draped around her. In her hands she wields a long sword. She regards the characters silently as they pile into the house.

The group regains their composure and begins heading down the south road. At the end of the road, a weary-looking mansion squats behind a rusting ironfence. The iron gates are twisted and torn. The right gatelies cast aside, while the left swings lazily in the wind. The stuttering squeal and clang of the gate repeats withmindless precision. Weeds choke the grounds and presswith menace upon the house itself. Yet, against the walls, the growth has been tramped down to create a path allabout the domain. Heavy claw markings have strippedthe once-beautiful finish of the walls. Great black markstell of the fires that have assailed the mansion. Not apane nor a shard of glass stands in any window. All thewindows are barred with planks, each one marked withstains of evil omen.

The only direct evidence, ie. observed in laboratory-- of simple-to-comlex or complex-to-simple or lateral evolution is with bacteria. Or at least that is last understood back in the 90's.
I disagree that only directly observed evidence in a laboratory is of note here. But if you want examples of observed speciation, we have plenty. Check out all these suckers as well as all of these.
