Makes little difference and has the advantage of engaging new debaters. So Yes/don't care much.
2. How much (or how little) should we enforce "special rules" of debates.
As lightly as possible within the realm of civil conduct.
I like it when we collectively reward superior persuasion and creativity but punish harassment. If somebody makes a good case for ignoring the rules I want the capacity to reward the case. I also want the freedom to say, "nope, contender violated rules and forfeits debate" as I see fit. All legit voters should be able to exercise that vote in any debate or the vote is corrupted. I think requests that some people not accept debates encourages new debaters to instigate without having to face the same challengers over and over. If debaters are just voting or taking debates vindictively or as part of a feud or whatever- the community should be the first to discourage, then mod warning, etc. IF mods feel that zapping a few vindictive votes might serve as an effective punishment without actually banning the user- then I think mods should feel empowered to try that technique.

In fact, he did it twice.
Here's my post in mid-June commemorating when RatMan was the first (and still the only ) to win the Profession Debater gold medal and complete the whole course of medals.
After that, DART added a few more medals and RatMan completed post-mortem in just the last few hrs. Amazing.
I doubt anybody else will get all the medals this year. Maybe next year. It is obviously a pretty stand out acheivement.

I like the game. Wait times are unhelpfully long since there's not nearly as much to talk about a standard game. As you say, probably the smartest move is to figure out your team first.

As a response to the recent addition of the GOLD MEDAL ACHIEVEMENT "Friend Of The Crowd," which requires participants to
"Receive 25 likes for a single forum post or debate comment"
(An occurrence that has no natural precedence or likelihood on DART),
I am suggesting this posting as one possible solution. Anybody can and should add a post to this topic that simply says "Hello, please like me" or something else to that effect. I ask that we refrain from any posts designed to make anybody else feel unwelcome posting here or anywhere on DART- no cursing, no pro and anti anything. The goal here is to get everybody to like everything ponzi-scheme style. Before you post, you must like every post before you. If there are more than 25 posts you can stop after 25 likes but I'd encourage every poster to continue liking.
New people! If you'd like some way to introduce yourself- just like everybody before you and tell us that you have arrived. Everybody you liked will already be in your debt.

Dr.F- to true believers and trumpists, any well-reasoned conversation must seem like a progressive atheist cabal . I don't mind being called either although the progressives and atheists I know think I fall well short of their societies. My religion is mostly just don't believe what you don't know.
Omar- I'm volunteering at the Telluride Film Festival all next week so now's your chance. Honestly, it is comers like you & pink & speed that gave me a sense of urgency about getting that gold medal- clearly it was now or never.
Ragnar doesn't have his gold medal yet and I consider him more deserving than me. Ragnar handed me my first loss on DDO years ago & I have been a fan ever since. I have no academic or formal debate background so I just imitate my betters and Ragnar is my favorite exemplar because of his clean prose, dry wit, and adaptability. I'm tempted to just offer Ragnar a debate to get it over with but my 9 year old nephew keeps asking if I'm still undefeated....so yeah, that's hard to give up.
At any rate, this shit is definitely going on my resume- highest ranked debater on DART, at least for a handful of late summer days.

AK-47's are designed to fire many times without needing cleaning- which ought not to be significant for hunting or self-defense but could be a decisive factor in a fire-fight- a military engagement, for example, or mass murdering while police try to stop you.

According to the FBI, PRO's claim:

RESOLUTION: Gun Bans are Stupid
PRO's resolution lacks any kind of specifics- no nations or law-making bodies are specified. No specific laws or restrictions are identified. CON is forced to conclude that PRO opposes all and every prohibition on firearms no matter the place or context or situation.
Therefore, PRO must show that all gun bans demonstrate poor intelligence no matter the situation.
CON's CASE:
If Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the principal architect of 9/11 were to request that a shipment of 50 AK-47s be delivered to his cell in Guantanamo, PRO must either demonstrate how it would be unintelligent for camp commander US Navy Capt. John Fisher to deny Mohammed's request (since such denial would be an official prohibition and therefore, a ban) or admit at least some gun bans are sensible in some contexts and situations.
PRO has cast the resolution far too wide and must now defend, retract, or limit the argument.
PRO's CASE:

What do we say? In normal games town is trying to eliminate specific people, and mafia is specifically trying to turn town on each other, but how do we even go about this? Leaders literally just flail around if no one is posting anything, and followers have to randomly choose out of 7 other people and hope they don't hit their specific leader...The thing is that no specific type of behavior ties someone to red, blue, yellow, so how are we able to determine who is who
