Pharsalus definitely belongs on the list of normative claims

So far,  everybody but Chris is claiming to be on this short list:

Alesia
Zama
Lake Trasimene
Catalaunian Plains
Carrhae
Actium

INFORMATION PLEASE: POST-VAX BREAKTHROUGH CLUSTERS
At the risk of provoking Wylted's anti-vax boner, I do see a trend developing that does not comport with my understanding of vaccine effectiveness and post-vaccination breakthrough risks.

I'm talking about recent stories like this:

  • Three TEXAS HOUSE DEMOCRATS who TRAVELED to WASHINGTON, D.C., TEST POSITIVE for CORONAVIRUS
    • All three lawmakers, whom the Texas House Democratic Caucus did not identify, are fully vaccinated, which helps protect against severe illness
  • YANKEE's COVID-19 OUTBREAK: AARON JUDGE AMONG six YANKEES to TEST POSITIVE; RED SOX GAME FRIDAY will be PLAYED
    • The rival clubs will play Friday following New York's six COVID-19 positives
  • MAY 18th- 9 VACCINATED YANKEES PLAYERS and STAFF TESTED POSTIVE for COVID— HERE's HOW that HAPPENS
  • POSITIVE COVID-19 TESTS KNOCKED NC STATE BASEBALL out of the CWS. WHAT about VANDERBILT?
None of this refutes the conventional wisdom- that vaccines are not 100% effective; that breakthrough cases in the vaccinated are rare; that vaccinated people get less sick than unvaccinated.  However, we are told that the variability in vaccine immunity is individual- that sometimes some immune systems just don't respond as vigorously as we'd hope.  If that is the primary variable however, then the rarity and randomness of breakthrough cases should prevent clusters of cases, right?

So out of a relatively small sampling of Texas Democrats who flew to Washington- at least 3 out of 65 vaccinated all get sick at once.  A 4.6% breakout rate.  On a 40 man Yankee's roster we've had 15 breakthrough cases since the beginning of May- a 37.5% breakthrough rate.

I suppose we don't have enough information yet, and some totally non virological explanation might yet account for these anecdotes (Everybody on the Yankee's lying about getting vaccinated seems possible tho not likely).  I'm just wondering if these breakthrough clusters might not be challenging our understanding of vaccine effectiveness.   Is there some virologic element I'm not considering?   Is plane travel amplifying exposure?  Are these breakthoughs associated with the Delta variant?

THEME ANALYSIS:

The Battle of Actium is a very useful claim in terms of theme if GP is to believed.

  • One possible theme split is Roman victories vs Roman defeats but a famous civil war battle, with no obvious Roman winner, in TOWN refutes this.
  • One possible theme split is Republic vs. Empire.  Officially, the Republic ends in 27 BC when Augustus in made Emperor, an act made possible by victory at Actium, but unofficially the Republic has been dead since Caesar crossed the Rubicon in 49 BC.  My battle is before this and so I'm willing to consider this but Actium is right on the cusp and not at all a clearly Republican battle.
  • One possible theme split is Naval vs Land battles but there were so few Naval battles that Naval would have to be scum.  A naval battle in TOWN refutes this.
  • One possible theme split is Punic vs. non-Punic.  No other series produced so many famous battles but Punic would have to be scum.  That's Cannae, Zama, most likely.
  • One possible theme split is Civil War vs non-Civil War but Actium is Civil War and my battle is not so this split is out.
  • One possible theme split is Eastern Empire vs Western Empire.  Actium was a battle in the East but long before the Eastern Empire.  Eastern Empire had few enough famous victories that it would have to be scum- Milvian Bridge, Catalaunian Plains
  • One possible theme split is pitched battle vs ambushes- scum would be Teutoberg Forest, Carrhae, Arbitus perhaps.

@Wylted
why do I keep seeing tik tok videos of people having uncontrollable shaking after taking the covid19 vaccines?
Tik Tok is Chinese spyware.  You want to stay off of that shit.

WASHINGTON, May 12 (Reuters) - The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously passed a bill that would ban U.S. federal workers from downloading the popular app TikTok onto U.S. government devices, Senator Josh Hawley, a bill sponsor, said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a similar measure in August 2020. Representative Ken Buck has introduced a similar bill in the House.
The app, which is popular with teens eager to show off dance moves, has come under fire in the United States because of concerns over its Chinese owner, ByteDance. TikTok has sought to distance itself from Beijing with mixed success.

Hawley called the company "an immediate security threat."

"This should not be a partisan issue and I'm glad to see my colleagues in the Senate act together to address Beijing's covert data collection campaign," Hawley said in a statement after the vote.

You can't moan about oh, the NSA is theoretically spying on me even though I have evidence while also ignoring the massive amount of data this app collects on you and sends to the Chinese government - which is well documented and not hypothetical at all.

Point proven, Lets just say we agree to disagree on every single subject that the human mind can think of and leave it at that. No need to respond to each others posts as we already know to just think the opposite of what we each say. Kinda like me and my wife.
I have found that I share some points of agreement with everybody on this site.  I am sure we can find some overlap- perhaps outside of politics.

@Wylted
I'm conservative oromagi.
Sorry, buddy, but you are not a Conservative.  No Conservative could possibly endorse Trump.

Conservatism is" the aesthetic, cultural, social, and political outlook that embodies the desire to conserve existing things, held to be either good in themselves, or better than the likely alternatives, or at least safe, familiar, and the objects of trust and affection.  The central tenets of conservatism may vary in relation to the traditional values or practices of the culture and civilization in which it appears. In Western culture, conservatives seek to preserve a range of institutions such as organized religion, parliamentary government, and property rights.  Adherents of conservatism often oppose modernism and seek a return to traditional values"

But you hate parliamentary government.  You hate the institutions of government and the establishments of power.  A real Conservative likes the establishments, like the conservation of power in traditional roles, perhaps even traditional families. If you are going to say that don't think America should be democratic that it should be autocratic (as you have claimed)  than there is no American Conservative of any generation who will let you in the door.  You use the word but you don't understand its meaning.

I feel like I am more likely to be killed by a democratic institution.  I've been reading a lot of leftist propaganda as well as seeing moves like cellphone conversations being monitored so the government can have fact checkers checking texts.
But your feelings are not facts and we've established that you exhibit bad judgement and deep ignorance about most subjects.  I don't think anybody should be persuaded by your feelings.

I don't think the country will be safe for me once the leftists are in charge, nor for my children. I feel like I have to support some sort of fascism or become a victim of leftists.
Well, the 20th century was chock a block with fascist experiments that ended in the greatest death tolls in history.  Not sure why'd you conclude you'd be safer with those retards.

Leftists are in charge right now and the excess mortality rate has dropped remarkably from the moment they did.  I think your fears are totally groundless and  quite silly.

Here is what happens. They get elected promising to take on the establishment. Then they make friends with other politians become part of the in group, and become a part of the ivory tower. Ideally they go to Washington and instead of becoming part of these social cliques, they remain true to their constituents.
But as we have established elsewhere, you have a highly radical and irrational perspective on compromise.  You believe that all compromise is corruption when America was explicitly built to run on compromise alone.  And this is reflected in your political perspective.  You have said multiple times that you think American Democracy is weak and evil and that authoritarianism is the only effective form of government.  You don't believe in parliaments or elections or the right to vote.

You critique democratic power cliques but you would replace them with establishments of one- Kings and dictators who might kill all those Jews you are so worried about.   The fact that some dictators might rather kill you never seems to occur.

I feel like your definition was accurate, but your interpretation inaccurate.

I was focusing on the part of the definition itinerary referring to closed social groups. Referring the establishment as a sort of elite Washington clique that is hard to Penetrate. Senate  is a relatively small group of people and at the top of the social hierarchy.
But you are highly selective of which groups qualify as closed social groups.  By every account, Trump's White House was run by a very small group of people divided into two camps fighting over access to the president- the Kushner Group and the Giuliani Group. But his closed social group is not establishment.  By all accounts, the Jan 6th insurrection was planned and orchestrated by a small closed group of radicalized Representatives and Senators- Hawley, Cruz, Gosar, Biggs, Brooks but these are not establishment in your book.  Mitch McConnell has been running the Senate for the last six years but your prefer to think of out of power Senators as establishment.  There's no consistency or value to your accusation, its just another doubleplusungood word you apply without semantic content to people who don't conform to your world view, like socialist or elitist.

I have defined ESTABLISHMENT and you have not.  If you are going to tell me that my definition is false, you must come up with a definition that is supported by some dictionary and also contradicts my dictionary definition.  Otherwise, your definition of ESTABLISHMENT is your alone and no public argument is bound to respect it.

@Wylted
Oro just used the genetic fallacy.

Person a has religious ties and I don't like their religion, so those people cannot possibly have information that is accurate.
False.

The genetic fallacy (also known as the fallacy of origins or fallacy of virtue) is a fallacy of irrelevance that is based solely on someone's or something's history, origin, or source rather than its current meaning or context. This overlooks any difference to be found in the present situation, typically transferring the positive or negative esteem from the earlier context. In other words, a claim is ignored in favor of attacking or championing its source.

The fallacy therefore fails to assess the claim on its merit. The first criterion of a good argument is that the premises must have bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim in question.  Genetic accounts of an issue may be true, and they may help illuminate the reasons why the issue has assumed its present form, but they are not conclusive in determining its merits
However, I have based claim on merits that bear directly on the truth or falsity of the claim.

My claims are that when discussing election fraud in Maricopa County

  • Maricopa County newspapers  and local reporters are more reliable than websites based on secretive walled-in compounds in upstate New York that have no reporters on the scene.  Eye-witness reports and in person interviews are inherently more reliable than accounts that have none.
  • Likewise, US citizens are more likely to provide pro-American perspectives than foreign establishments
  • Likewise,  Free citizens are more likely to provide accurate information than citizens who have no control over their internet access, medications, sex life, etc.  It is reasonable to assume that these web posters are likewise controlled concerning content.
But you dropped all of those arguments on the merits regarding sadolite's sourcing, lazily arguing that if only you can find some likely-sounding fallacy (and there is always a likely-sounding fallacy for every argument) then you can simply drop all of my excellent points.  My argument stands unrefuted by you or anybody else.

If a cult leader tells oro that lions are heading for him and he sees lions heading for him in the distance, he will dismiss it as untrue because he doesn't like the cult leader
If a cult leader hiding behind a walled compound in New York sends me an email telling me that lions are attacking me and I look around me and see it isn't so I am going to believe my eyes and ears before the cult leader.  I know that doesn't make sense to you because  if a source of information has confirmed your biases on a subjects like politics or vaccinations or Jews then you feel an obligation to believe anything that source of information tell you.  So- even though you see no lions and it is not rational to believe that lions are attacking you, you believe anyway and quickly start inventing increasingly elaborate explanations for why you haven't been eaten yet.   Just as Trumpists invent ever increasingly elaborate explanations for why Trump lost the election.   I trust  and free and local information over corrupt and biased information.  You trust that which confirms your worldview over free and local information.  My way learns the truth far more reliably than yours.

@Wylted
This is the tell tale sign of somebody who thinks they are part of the establishment.   To be so stupid as to think that their are no deeply entrenched Washington elite is stupid. You have whole dynasties like the Bush's, Clinton's and Kennedies and other long time politicians
I agree that there is such thing as an establishment but also agree with Double_R that your usage sounds ominous without actually bringing any meaning.

The Establishment is "a term used to describe a dominant group or elite that controls a polity or an organization. It may comprise a closed social group that selects its own members, or entrenched élite structures in specific institutions. One can refer to any relatively small class or group of people who can exercise control as The Establishment. Conversely, in the jargon of sociology, anyone who does not belong to The Establishment may be labelled an "outsider"

Literally, anybody in power can correctly be called establishment.  You use the world as just another doubleplusungood in your context-free lexicon.  You have stated outright that you think that the establishment is a race of reptilian bipeds wearing jew suits who are controlled by an evil magic spirit.  Therefore, you have zero credibility on the subject of who is establishment.  You think that Trump who was born the son of the largest landlord in New York City, who dodged the draft and inherited hundreds of millions of dollars is not establishment or elite and Biden who was born the son of a used car dealer is establishment and elite.  In other words, you define those words however Trump tells you to define them.

Biden for example has been deeply entrenched in Washington for years and so many of them have lost touch with the average person. And denying this exists and no "establishment" are real is retarded.
Biden rode the Amtrak home every night for 30 years, shaking hands with everyone and learning the names of the regular commuters.  Trump flies by helicopter and refuses to shake hands on account of germs.  You don't know what establishment means- you only believe what you are told to believe.

The establishment is real wherever you go,
Even in a family, Mom and Dad are the establishment.  Churches and schools are establishments  When you say establishment you're really whining, "why aren't I in charge?" implying you have merited such responsibility, for which claim I  have seen no evidence.

first time playing but what does AWoL and scum mean?

My reads are posted relatively with

confirmed town above the town line
TOWN
then players listed from most likely town down to least likely
in DP1, the earlier join, the more town cred I give you
in DP1, early claims get more town cred
I try to link to relevant character and role info for new players
AWoL
players below the AWoL line have yet to join
in DP1, I tend to pressure these first
and will frequently join a policy lynch for no-shows
SCUM
players below the scum line are confirmed mafia
lowest name on the list is usually my top pick
for lynching

I do this list for my benefit first and the benefit of town second.
Sometime I play little games within the list to provoke players
I would encourage others to do their own read lists

My 2020 Election Hypothesis
  • High stakes- both sides realistically believed this might be their last chance at national power
  • Pandemic created a sense of crisis and urgency
    • But also translated into record mail-in voting
    • But also meant record number of people didn't have to work on election day
  • Trump is undeniably polarizing- not just politically divisive, but amplifying  real love/hate dynamics
  • High level of Federal monitoring for fraud and voter suppression after 2016
    • Most traditional voter suppression methods were subverted
  • Best election day weather in history- warmer, less precip than any other national election day.

Whats the best fiction book ever
Best ever is a useless qualification.

Most literary impact ever?  The Bible or The Iliad

Most literary impact on me?  LOTR  I literally learned to read grown up books because of Tolkien- keeping a dictionary handy to figure out which words were real English words and which were just imaginary words from Tolkien.  All of my love of literature, history, fantasy, sci-fi, dungeons and dragons, strategic gaming and more flows from Tolkien.  Gayness, even- LOTR is super gay.    I wrote the only fan letter I'd ever written and took it to the library to find out where to mail it just to find out that Tolkien was dead and the librarian had to comfort me while I cried.

Greatest English language tour de force?  I know I should say Ulysses but I'm going with Sophie's Choice.  William Stryron's power and command of language just blew me away.  Southern writers, man.

Most perfect example of an English language novel?  Forster's Howard's End .  Just the right balance of evocation and clarity.  Beautiful character development by dialogue.  A powerful condemnation of classism in a Christian society without once evoking class or religion.

Favorite book to recommend to others?  Moby DIck.  Moby Dick is shockingly modern, incredibly entertaining, endlessly fascinating, and ruthlessly existentialist.  A true masterpiece that doesn't get taught enough in US schools- maybe its too racist, maybe it's because there are no women characters.   Everybody should read it anyway.

What worthless dialogue, my sources are better because I think they are so they beat your sources so that makes me right. Pretty much sums up all debate sights.
"I don't see what I am looking at and this internet source proves it"
My sources are better because they have local reporters who actually know York county and Maricopa County and speak to the County officials.

All three of your sources get their information from the same source:  The Epoch Times

The Epoch Times is a far-right international multi-language newspaper and media company affiliated with the Falun Gong new religious movement

Falun Gong is a new religious movement.  Falun Gong was founded by its leader Li Hongzhi in China in the early 1990s. Falun Gong has its global headquarters in Dragon Springs, a 400-acre compound around Cuddebackville in Deerpark, New York, near the current residence of Li Hongzhi.   Life in Dragon Springs is tightly controlled by Li-  internet access is restricted, the use of medicines is discouraged, and arranged relationships are common.

According to a 2020 report by the Los Angeles magazine:
Both Shen Yun and Epoch Times are funded and operated by members of Falun Gong, a controversial spiritual group that was banned by China's government in 1999. [...] Falun Gong melds traditional Taoist principles with occasionally bizarre pronouncements from its Chinese-born founder and leader, Li Hongzhi. Among other pronouncements, Li has claimed that aliens started invading human minds in the beginning of the 20th century, leading to mass corruption and the invention of computers. He has also denounced feminism and homosexuality and claimed he can walk through walls and levitate. But the central tenet of the group's wide-ranging belief system is its fierce opposition to communism.
In 2000, Li founded Epoch Times to disseminate Falun Gong talking points to American readers. Six years later he launched Shen Yun as another vehicle to promote his teachings to mainstream Western audiences. Over the years Shen Yun and Epoch Times, while nominally separate organizations, have operated in tandem in Falun Gong's ongoing PR campaign against the Chinese government, taking directions from Li.
Despite its conservative agenda, Epoch Times took pains until recently to avoid wading into partisan U.S. politics. That all changed in June 2015 after Donald Trump descended on a golden escalator to announce his presidential candidacy, proclaiming that he "beat China all the time." In Trump, Falun Gong saw more than just an ally—it saw a savior. As a former Epoch Times editor told NBC News, the group's leaders "believe that Trump was sent by heaven to destroy the communist party."   Falun Gong extensions have also been active in promoting the European alt-right.

So, all of your information on the subject was filtered through a  secretive foreign cult leader which is why your sources fail to note that the audits have no basis in law and fail to report that most of the resistance to these audits is Republican (naturally, because they want recounts in places that are historically Republican but rejected Trump and voted Biden).

My information came from local reporters- US citizens who are permitted to get on the internet and take medicine when they feel sick, and consequently, are probably more likely to tell me what's really going on than a foreign cult leader might.  Yes, a very Republican-leaning newspaper in Maricopa County is a better source for information about an audit in Maricopa County than a Chinese cult on a compound in NY.  Yes, a Harrisburg based reporter for a Republican-leaning newspaper in Pittsburgh  is a better source for information about one Pennsylvania State Senator's illegal request for personal custody over Pennsylvania ballots than a Chinese Cult on a compound in NY.

I think you had to search pas  a lot of real reporting to find those three cult-generated non-reported stories that confirmed your heavily manipulated bias.

Yes, objectively, definitely, my sources are way, way, way better than your sources.  My sources are American.  My sources are free.  My sources are local.  Your sources are not any of those things.  Don't you mind having your opinion manipulated by foreign cults?

Trump's financial manager was indited on fraud - maybe justice for the conman we let run a country for some reason? I guess we'll see.
We'll see.   I think the most important development is that Trump keeps at least two sets of books and the SDNY and the Feds have the real ones.  That makes it almost impossible for Trump to deny knowledge.  The charges themselves are pretty small beer and I wouldn't think enough to shift Weiselberg.  Somehow I can't see America putting Trump away for fraud or financial stuff- I think 40% of the country automatically forgives him any of that no matter the details.  The real threats to Trump are if Maxwell has real dirt(Wolff's new book has Trump totally panicked on that count) or the Russian kompromat somehow goes public.

Trump will (most likely) not participate in crucial political decisions in the future seeing that it is not of great probability that he will even win the 2024 Republicans.
I hardly think that's decided yet.  Trump just got 70% at Texas CPAC with DeSantis coming in second at 21%- that pretty much keeps him in charge of the GOP until the 2022 elections, unless he attempts another coup or gets indicted himself.  If Trump believes that serious heat is coming, he's going to want to run as the best way to immunize himself from legal trouble.  Plenty can get it in the way of that plan- health concerns being the top of that list but we'll have to wait and see.

Duchamp's Fountain should be exhibited in the bathroom

Do you think that an urinal won’t be considered art if it is being used in the bathroom?  The thing is: In my opinion, a Urinal is an artwork even if it is to be peed on. An artwork that is usable is better than an artwork that is unusable. So what?
I think placing Duchamp's Fountain in a bathroom is failing to understand the ironic juxtaposition of the installation.   It's like saying let's remake Caddyshack but this time set in a bowling alley- you've missed what made the thing famous in the first place.

Could some other urinal installed in a bathroom be art?  Sure.  I've seen very decorative urinals and urinals painted to look like gaping mouths that were quite disturbing.  But putting Duchamp's Fountain in a bathroom is missing the point, killing the joke, and disrespecting the artist's intention.

You think I care. I could careless who it benefited. The fact it’s happening is concerning to me.
Classic doublethink.  Trump tells you that the election is fraudulent so you are required to be concerned but you can't prove that anybody but Trump committed any election fraud so you are required to not care who benefitted.  Your thought process is officially knotted.

The New Hampshire Union Leader and literally thousands more prominent Republicans, the heart and soul of the Republican party less than 10 years ago all gone because they wouldn't suck Trump's dick
That’s where you’re wrong. They’re establishment hacks that have been screwing over the country for years, along with the likes of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi
Everybody's establishment except King Trump.  More of that Orwellian doublethink.

the egregore doesn't have a name that I am aware of.

tetragrammaton=YHWH, so the answer to that question is yes

There was a certain Jewish messiah that lived in the 17th century that the Jewish mafia follow and the egregore probably began with him gai ing wide appeal in the Jewish community
So the world is run by a couple of thousand lizard people who are living in Turkey, pretending to be good Muslims but are actually secret Jews inhabited by the Evil magic spirit YHWH.  Sounds rather  far fetched to me.  Also, why do you have problems with Israeli Jews and Miami Jews if all the bad ones live in Turkey pretending to be Muslims?

When will you ever realize that RINOS are no longer the GOP lol.

Arizona is RINO country.

It’s literally the same thing on the left. Progressives under Bernie vs Pelosi and the Establishment.

Trump and the Populists vs the likes of McCain and Romney with the Establishment.
and George Will and Dick Cheney and George W Bush and George Bush and Steve Schmidt and Chuck Hagel and William Cohen and Michael Hayden and Colin Powell and Tom Ridge and Bill Kristol and The New Republic, for fuck's sake, and the Wall Street Journal and Christine Todd Whitman and Condoleezza Rice and James Comey and Robert Mueller and Richard Armitage and Brett McGurk and John Bolton and Peggy Noonan and Anthony Scaramucci and Omarosa and Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski and Ben Sasse and Lincoln Chaffe and James Mattis and Jeff Flake, for fuck's sake, and Bob Corker and Joe Walsh and Charlie Baker and Larry Hogan and John Kasich and George Pataki and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Marc Sanford and Rick Snyder and John Paul Stevens and Michael Steele and Max Boot and Rex Tillerson and Michael Cohen and David Brooks and George Conway and David Frum and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dan Coats and Caitlyn Jenner and Bret Stephens and Pete Wehner and Ann Coulter, for fuck's sake, and Charlie Sykes and Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman and The New Hampshire Union Leader and literally thousands more prominent Republicans, the heart and soul of the Republican party less than 10 years ago all gone because they wouldn't suck Trump's dick.  It would have been easier and more honest if Trump had just formed his own party and left the Republicans alone.

Also oromagi

Here are several examples of election fraud.
Notice how he only includes examples done by Republicans when there are countless…in inner cities done by Democrats.

This what we call selective media.
I took my list from The Heritage Foundation's list, hardly a Democratic source.  I only counted cases affecting the 2020  presidential election ballot.  That is, The Heritage Foundation has not found one definite case of an illegal vote for Biden. Plenty of Democrats convicted of fraud in local election, faking illegal signatures on ballot measures, etc but no votes for Biden.    I've remarked on  this a couple of time over the past six months and looked everywhere.  There has to be some real cases of fraud favoring  Biden's direction but I honestly cannot find a single one and, at this point, would feel better seeing at least one.
