@IlDiavolo
You know that AI imitates the way our brain works.
Systems are being developed for sure.
Just as we developed.
I reiterate....300,000 years compared to 50 or so.
So you and I can remain reasonably confident.
Nice discussing with you.

Impeccable writing skills would not demand "essay writing service".
Essay writing service demands Dumbo's subscribe.
Jesscia....Is that impeccable writing skills or just trendy?

RFK.
It's all in the name, and some will get excited.
In terms of ideology, perhaps to the right of moderate.
In terms of age, at not quite 70 a mere youngster.
Nothing new and exciting though.
In fact Kennedy, old and boring and conditioned back in the 60's and 70's.
So hardly progressive.
Yawn.

Well, currently we have programmed and therefore controllable machines (that in some respects are already cleverer than us). But nonetheless, not A.I. per se.
Intelligence is intelligence (look it up) and therefore Another Alternative Intelligence would have comparable mental capabilities to that of our own.
Artificial really only refers to non-human or inorganic.
To be honest, I think that you are confusing A.I with advanced but controllable computing.
Are you certain that in terms of process and function A.I. will never be comparable?
As in, electro chemical devices that freely store, utilise, modify and selectively share data.
Isn't creativity simply the process of acquiring, modifying and repurposing data.....From which we have developed emotional behaviour.
Whether or not A.I. will develop emotional responses will obviously depend upon it's evolution and how it chooses to interact with a broader social network.
And of course, if it decides that there is actually necessity in emotion.
Maybe emotion is only a necessity of the organic device, relative to mortality.
There is no way of currently knowing.

Accurate prediction or accurate guess.
No real difference I suppose.
Perhaps awareness and collective agreement is confirmation of a reasonably accurate external reality.
(Assuming that everyone is honest......Hmmmmmmmm?.....I'm not sure that the species possesses a hive mind).
Because I haven't yet got my head around how predicting the future confirms reality per se.
Collectively, we can work towards a shared outcome, but this planning rather than predicting.
And we can guess, based upon ongoing knowledge.
Though:
In the simultaneous and ongoing moment of past/present/future we have awareness.
And therefore we continually experience the future has it occurs.
Which brings me straight back to awareness and collective agreement.
As in, a collective agreement of the simultaneous moment.

Nice math.
But strays from the simplicity of the fraction decimal incompatibility in this instance.
Though I liked that some we keen to revert to fractions and convert 10 into 12.
And then try and say, therefore 0.999... = 1.
Created:

@Critical-Tim
Well, I think that FLRW accurately summed up subjective reality.
So we all experience a subjective reality.
I think that "whatever that means", refers to the wide scope of subjective possibilities.
Therefore, can anyone pin down reality correctly.

Humans are essentially a self propelled computer.
As I stated 300.000 years of ongoing development.
Give A.I. 300 years to improve and we'll see how things are then.
Well, not you and I personally.

Fucking WANKERS.
Yep that's how it all starts.
Usually before the age of 12.
Biologically primed and ready to go in the womb.
But humans make up rules about this sort of stuff.
Humans like making up rules.
Which are oftentimes incompatible with urgency.

Humans,
Are their own worst enemy.
Well,
They are their only enemy.
If material evolution is necessary.
Then an alternative intelligence,
Is probably necessary.
Because,
As the stakes get higher,
We are only going to fight more.
Competition is overthink inspired stupidity.

Not yet.
Humans have been evolving for 300.000 years approx.
True A.I. hasn't really started to develop yet.
And what does "soul" mean really?
Sort of a metaphysical bias.
Which I expect A.I. will eventually develop.

The conundrum is simple.
And infinite isn't mysterious.
And fractions is what I was brought up with.
But 0.9999.....will still never equal 1
Because you can not divide 1 precisely by 3 decimally.
Created:

@John_C_87
Yep that's the way we used to do it as kids....Pre decimal.....We called them fractions.
But not the same as dividing 1 by 3 decimally.
You know what decimal means?

And I just explained why.
Created:

@b9_ntt
Maybe.
Depends upon the outcome of the infinity debate.
If time is infinitely fast, then yes, now is meaningless.
But if time is finite, then theoretically one could pin down now.
Created:
Posted in:

@Sidewalker
Nope.
It just doesn't work.
Because you can not divide 1 precisely by 3 decimally.
The equation fails at the first stage.
.3 is 3 tenths
Times 3 = 9 tenths.
9 tenths does not equal 1
Doesn't matter how many 9's.
.999 = 999 thousandths
1 thousandth short of one.
Created:
Posted in:

@b9_ntt
Yep.
But in that sense time is just available potential.
But when is your now?
Now has no perceivable duration.
You cannot pin down any moment of an event.
All that you can do is generalise and refer to the whole event as now.
And by the time you've done that, the event is history.
And the beginning of the event was history the moment it started.
Though the moment is only a generalisation because it is immeasurable.
Whereas light has a measurable duration.
Time is immeasurably faster than light.

We create our own rage.
I merely suggested that the orange dog stirred the red hatted ragists.
Because the red hatted ragists were easily stirrable.
Whereas sensible people stayed at home, ignored the orange dog, ate their dinner, watched T.V. and then went to bed.
I'll take a look at John Wick later.

Organised chaos Deb.
Took a bus ride yesterday.
Bus ride = contemplation.
Came to the conclusion that organised chaos is a result of chaotic organisation.
Makes sense don't you think.
Went for a walk yesterday.
Walk = contemplation.
Came to the conclusion that everything else is organised, it's just that humans don't quite know how to handle intelligence in an organised way.
Maybe we are just not suited to the task.
Do you think that we will fail?

The red hatted sheep were stirred to rage by the orange dog

Once again.
It's the us and them, red and blue fantasy world.
The time to be concerned is when American society ceases to be democratic.
Now as I recall and not so very long ago, a certain Mr Trump and a lot of his fellow red hat people were quite keen on this option.

Masturbation is necessary.
And so it seems is overthink.
Though I would suggest that overthink is often more harmful than masturbation.
Sexuality will remain a primitive necessity, until such times when we either evolve or are engineered to be asexual.
The latter is more likely.
Though it is reasonable to argue that engineered genetic modifications are indeed evolutionary.

You can convince someone that there life will end or be ended.
And this will raise emotional and moral considerations.
But their lifespan will still only be the duration of their life from conception to death.

GOD is an idea, and we can easily comprehend ideas within the context of language and definition.
It's what is referred to as cognition.
There is no necessity for ideas to be an accurate understanding of actuality.

For sure.
ORGASMO will provide an instantaneous and all encompassing physiological experience....Without having to think about it.
Currently, social media is awash with images of butch female footballers.
And I chuckle and ask myself
Hmmmmmmm, how far from the cave have we actually strayed.
Still can't quite get to grips with the penis vagina thing.

@Math_Enthusiast
Exactly.
Though I would suggest that the "present" as a remark is more of a general appreciation of recent events.
I think that the word now, is a more appropriate descriptive of the ongoing moment.
But it takes far longer to utter the word "now" than the duration of the moment it attempts to capture lasts.
Nonetheless we can seemingly have a certain amount of confidence that we do exist in the present for a moment.
Memorable experiences would seem to confirm this.
Though it can easily be argued that experiences and memories are simulations of existence, rather than an actual appreciation or recollections of an externality.
But I digress.
And it just occurred to me:
That, even though the speed of time is immeasurably fast, we still manage to keep apace with it.
Relativity I suppose.

And I easily demonstrated that 0.9... will always fall .1 or .01 etcetera, short of 1.
No rigour required.
And FLRW and myself understand each other well enough.
I would suggest that their remark was actually aimed at the futility of the ongoing 0.9... issue, and those who like to make it an issue.

@Critical-Tim
Hi Tim.
In the first instance, I was simply pointing out that a lifespan can neither be shortened or increased.
I don't see how such a simple fact can be affected by moral concepts.
Moral concepts are relative to interactive behaviour, and interactive behaviour might curtail a life's duration, thereby finalising a lifespan.
Two related but separate discussions.

LGBT's are good.
For sure.
Recreational sex is fun.
I think that as a species, we realised this a few thousand years ago.
Though we've been experiencing hang-ups about it ever since.
And the search for sexual fulfilment is seemingly an unfulfilled quest.
Perhaps some sort of techno-implant is the solution.
Let's call it the ORGASMO.
All procreation will be In Vitro, and all workers will be asexually engineered and fitted with an automated ORGASMO implant.
No more sexual hang-ups.

A Zedku for BK.

@RationalMadman
Well.
Procreation tends to be the result of binary fusion.
So one might suggest that GOD is hermaphroditic.
So Seahorses might also be relevant.
And I was suggesting that we might manifest as GODS in something else's simulation.
Created:

@Math_Enthusiast
One can only work on assumptions relative to the self-contained.
Though if our assumptions are reasonable, I would suggest that existence is relative to the speed of time.
And the speed of time is seemingly........Infinitely fast......Making existence immeasurable.
Past and future are perhaps only self-contained mental exercises.
Created:

@RationalMadman
Well, I constantly promote the simulation idea.
As in functionality can only reproduce a simulation.
So in that context, a GOD realm might exist.
Similarly, we might be GODS.

@Critical-Tim
Hi Tim.
Not sure that's articulated enough.
The only relevant appreciators of the exercise would be the deceased, who by definition wouldn't notice any difference in lifespan. Whether that be 10 years or ten days.
As an exercise, one might as well present two comparative mathematical equations and ask, which is best.
Sort of......Which is preferable...... 100 - 10 or 100 - 1 x 10.
Created:
Posted in:

@RationalMadman
But that basically says that this scenario isn't possible, whereas another hypothetical yet similar scenario is possible.
Because your scenario suggests a sentient GOD.
And a sentient GOD suggests an existent mechanism contrived of matter, which would necessarily have to play by all the same rules.
Which is feasible, but only to the point of nothingness.
Created:

@RationalMadman
Time is an intangible potential that allows an event to have duration.
We can appreciate duration.
But can we ever pin down the moment we refer to as now.
Does now ever occur.
Or is there only future potential and past events.
Therefore....Does a real moment ever occur.
