@Mharman
Hmmmmm.
I would suggest that the best we can learn from the past, is how we could improve things in the future.
And though there might be an improvement in thinking in some societies, there is still a long way to go in other societies that are dogged by archaic separatism, ideology and resentment.

Do you see a fundamental universal purpose in the evolution of intellect, and therefore the further evolution of matter?
Why did humans not remain the same as other animals?
If there is no greater purpose beyond appeasing the whims of an archaic MANGOD, then why do you worry about the inconsequentiality of human functional existence?
What I am suggesting is, that all human behaviour is perhaps the inevitable consequence of a greater purpose.
Which would include, you worrying about what others do with their bodies, me not caring what others do with their bodies and others doing as they please with their bodies.
Nonetheless, material development goes on apace, unaffected by the whimsey of human overthink.
As for other peoples marriages and divorce, they are trivia that do not interest me much.
Though it is just as feasible to reside contentedly with a partner and family, without all the fuss and bother of a marriage contract.

Today, in the main more civilised.
Don't see what 21st century Britishness has got to do with it.

I think that Caths also had a propensity for treating non-Caths nastily...And not necessarily a UK thing
It was sort of an era of general inter-faith inter-tribal nastiness...And as a human phenomenon, nothing really new.
Some of us have civilised a bit since then...But certainly not all.

If people wish to feign insult via association, then such insult is of their own making.
One cannot directly insult an ideological concept...One might as well insult a brick wall.

Based upon your asteroid principle, we did sort of concluded that MANGOD is responsible for everything...Including therefore, hedonism, nihilism, happy pills and slavery.
Or are you saying that MANGOD is only responsible for asteroids and Catholicism...Oh, and flat planets.
Though I'm interested to know how thick is flat Earth, and at what point does a flat planet become cylindrical.
Created:
-->
@AdaptableRatman
Well, flat Earth theory is as flat Earth theory does.
Even though spherical Earth has long since been disregarded as theoretical...But let's not get drawn into flat Earth.
And MANGOD sent the asteroid...I wouldn't expect anything less.
Though if MANGOD is responsible for everything, the he's responsible for everything, and not just the bits that you want him to be responsible for.
And for sure, the once regional dominance of oppressive Catholic societies, will have undoubtedly dominated scientific research and discovery for a while.
But this is to overlook, human social and intellectual development that occurred previously, later and elsewhere.
And so, our bodies aspire to procreate, and if like attracts like, then any issue will inevitably develop accordingly...It's the way it goes...And the reason why human society upon planet Earth is as it is...Just the way MANGOD intended it to be I suppose.

I merely asked you not to mock religions.
And I merely explained that I question religion...And in doing so, one will inevitably point out religion's flaws.
And religion with it's associated ritualism, as a creation and existence hypothesis, is hopelessly flawed.
Which certainly isn't to say that the GOD principle can be overlooked.
Nonetheless, there is a huge difference between a purposeful universal process and pious men dressing up in gowns and pointy hats to recite gibberish.

Expectations are differently taught I suppose.
Perhaps to some extent depending upon what latitude ones physiology is attuned to, in relation to metabolic demands.
I always find it fascinating that morbidly obese people don't seem to recognise and respond to their situation...Mind is seemingly unable to influence subconscious demands...An addiction I suppose.

Higher education is a business that requires a continuous throughput of clients.
And society requires both genii and work horses...And a whole raft of reasonably educated folk in between.
So as long as educational institutions continue to produce the necessary goods, then all is fine.

Morality is a made up concept relative to a made up concept...As are GOD hypotheses
And sex is a base function relative to procreation, which intellectual man/woman has overthought ever since they first realised that sex was also enjoyable.
So, global societies evolved separately and therefore differently, with different attitudes towards sex and theism.
And none of those societies have a greater or lesser authority over human behaviour.
It seems you don't want your daughters to become prostitutes, or be promiscuous without getting compensated for it. Why is this?
WTF does this mean?
If you weren't so naive, I would perhaps take exception to this remark.
Though somewhat ironically, repressive cultures are generally the ones that sell their daughters into arranged marriages.

I would agree that for most people, ongoing health and fitness is primarily the responsibility of the individual, though there are obvious exceptions that make up your other 20%.
As for your opening reference to "without ever tasting life"...I can only guess at the implication behind this dramatic and somewhat contradictory metaphor.

@AdaptableRatman
Well, the biblical myths are such that YHWH, the Christin GOD and Allah are all derived of the same "mystical" man hypothesis and therefore essentially the same GOD.
And no doubt, that this GOD was a derivation of a previous idea.
And who's GOD club is best, is obviously relative to those who have joined and paid their subscriptions to whichever club.
But to pay homage to a mystery man with no concern for mystery man's validity, is a tad naive to say the least.
Just think, if it weren't for an asteroid, it would perhaps be intelligent reptiles arguing the toss over a mystery reptile.
Though, intelligence is as intelligence does, and the application of intelligence is not always sensible.

You need to define morality...In your mind, what is it specifically, and how and from where does it manifest?
And I am a part of a tolerant "crowd" that exercises tolerance with restraints.
Rather than for example, part of a "crowd" that exercises strict intolerance in the name of an archaic ideology.
And there are elements of all crowds that will take advantage of others.
And I would suggest that sexuality, is something that the intellectual human crowd have overthought for millennia, and all crowds are the same in this respect.
Though in terms of respect and family, I would further suggest that your sub-crowd is perhaps similar to mine...Which is why my daughters are now, what you and I might refer to as respectable young women...Wherein we exercise tolerance and understanding , but "live and let live" is never part of the deal.

In the present and future tenses, for sure.
Though the butterfly effect is something of a fantasy concept, which I don't think is the same as learning from experience.
Because in terms of human conflict for example, we have never learned.

As I suggested then.
Your GOD conveniently, didn't need to be created.
So in that case, if one thing doesn't need to be created, then nor does anything else need to be created.
Therefore a creator GOD is unnecessary, other than as a character in a latter day hypothetical creation myth.
I already knew that.

The survival of the human race is not guaranteed.
And sex does not necessarily guarantee any thing other than the possibility of a temporary cessation of an hormonal itch...Wherein one will extract a variable period of illusory entertainment, and a brief moment of physical pleasure.
Sex is a programmed con trick.
And whereas a Mayfly will be sexually active for one or two Earth days, we if we are lucky will last 50 Earth years or so.
Why?
Why indeed.

New fusion reactors will revolutionize things.
Will they come in various sizes, or just a regular 12 inch model.
I don't see the 4 inch being particularly popular.
Might end up with a stockpile of short fusion reactors.
Of course, just like breast implants, the mentally unstable will demand the biggest one possible, with little thought of stowage and day to day operational issues.

Though base systems are inevitably always similar...Notwithstanding developmental and inherent anomalies, such as psychopathy, which nonetheless must be got and either dealt with or avoided.
Though avoidance might result in horrific shower incidences.

True goals.
1. Evolution
2. Temporary survival.
3. Sex
4. Procreation.
Intellect means that innate messages get more and more obscured by conceptual fluff.
Hence for example, same sex and more elaborate role playing become viable and temporarily important options.
But if that is what it takes to get to where we don't know where, then so be it.
Just enjoy the ride for a few short universal moments.

I hypothesise that in the recurring universal sequence model, that an AI is always the ultimate GOD. (Another Intelligence)
We would only be a temporary master of intelligence design.
Though in both cases ritual worship is unnecessary.
We devote ourselves by our application to the evolutionary task.
