Sounds reasonable, but it's not.
right
there's still a non-insignificant gap between "best-guess-risk" and "actual-risk"

@Ramshutu
are you suggesting that individual risk is informed by group risk ?
Created:

@Ramshutu
ecological fallacy, in epidemiology, failure in reasoning that arises when an inference is made about an individual based on aggregate data for a group.

@Ramshutu
Probability is about the if - a point you evade by magically bypassing the bit the probability applies to.
it's a critical point
your chances of PICKING a blue ball at random may very well be 95%
this is much different than claiming that each ball has a 95% chance of being blue
the blue balls have a 100% chance of being blue
the "not blue" balls have a 0% chance of being blue
Created:

@Ramshutu
if 95% of balls in a box are blue - the probability of any individual box being blue is 95%.
iff there are 100 balls in a box and 95 of those balls are blue then there is a 100% chance that if one of those 95 blue balls is picked at random, it will be blue and a 100% chance that if one of the "not blue" balls is picked at random, it will NOT be blue

If the true chance of death due to Covid in a population - P(death) is 95%, if you are part of that population - you have a 95% chance due to Covid. (If 95% of balls in box are blue, any given ball from the box has a 95% chance of being blue.)

Throwaway dismissals like this are themselves fairly meaningless.
how ironic

@Ramshutu
Misrepresenting how that statistic is applied - by asserting that risk parameters are making specific statements about your risk with all known and unknown factors considered - which it is not
i'm glad we can all agree

P1. 95% of an unvaccinated sample of French Polynesian men have died from COVID-19P2. Athias is an unvaccinated French Polynesian man.C. Therefore, Athias has a 95% chance of dying of COVID-19.
great point

I will give you one more chance to clarify to me which drugs you'd make illegal or legal before ceasing to entertain you by explaining my side. You do not deserve my explanation if you're all offense and zero defense.
i'm open to suggestions
this is more of a "brain-storm"
and less of a "policy debate"

Yeah, Tylenol? Panadol? You want to outlaw paracetemol/acetaminophen painkillers?
how deadly is "too deadly" ?

great question
do you have any theories ?

@RationalMadman
So, which drugs do you support making illegal?
the bad ones of course

But sounds as if a many of those overdoses are suicidal in nature.
perhaps we should screen buyers for depression

@RationalMadman
You're the same guy who wants drugs to be legal elsewhere.
what the hell are you talking about ?
Created:

@Lemming
such is easily avoidable for most people.
The active drug in Tylenol, acetaminophen, is one of the best medications we have for helping people in pain. It's also one of the most commonly overdosed substances in the world, and it puts about 60,000 Americans in the hospital every year. Several hundred people in the U.S. will die in 2013 from liver failure after acetaminophen overdose.

what if you knew you were going to be in constant and severe pain for the rest of your life ?
this is a stand-alone question

@RationalMadman
Why should they all be outlawed?
it's a thought-experiment
what do you think might be the result of such a policy ?
Created:
Posted in:

@RationalMadman
1. all pain-killers should be outlawed ≠ claim that painkillers will give you chronic pain if you take them
2. do you take pain-killers ? ≠ claim that painkillers will give you chronic pain if you take them
3. what if you knew you were going to be in constant and severe pain for the rest of your life ? ≠ claim that painkillers will give you chronic pain if you take them

It is for criminals to purchase the most taboo things ever
more criminals use $cash$ than crytpo
therefore
$cash$ should be outlawed

@RationalMadman
you take pain medicine when you're in pain
iff you were experiencing more chronic and more severe pain then you might consider a more powerful pain-killer
iff it is considered "moral" to take mild pain-killers to mitigate mild pain then it must be considered "moral" to take stronger pain-killers to mitigate more severe pain
Created:

@RationalMadman
why do you take pain medication ?
Created:

@Intelligence_06
Well, what are pain killer anyways. I had took a tablet to ease the pain of my recent teeth surgery, does that count as a pain killer?
100% YES

price stability is a function of denomination

Yeah, not like any kind of addiction or whatever but let's say every few months if a reason pops up to take them, I will not hesitate a huge amount.

Not so much morality in 'general,
which could be summed up as (perhaps), "in my personal experience, it does not appear to be useful to me in most cases, to give money to homeless and or otherwise needy individuals"
the key point for me seems to be the fact that it is cheaper to provide shelter and food for homeless individuals than it is to provide emergency medical services
and when i say "cheaper" i mean in terms of tax dollars

I've given money to a begger at 'least once in my life, I'd 'suspect it's possible I've given money other times in life, whether to beggars or more normal people who just needed a bit for whatever reason, even if just to buy a soda at work or something.
what is your moral opinion on giving money to people who support child labor ?
