A mandated reporter is a person who is legally required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the relevant authorities. Teachers and psychologists are some examples of people that are required to report any known abuse. The laws are in place to prevent children from being abused and to end any possible abuse or neglect at the earliest possible stage.
Historically, American law has protected a clergy-penitent privilege for a religious confessional that is similar to attorney-client privilege. In other words, clergy are not required to tell anyone about any abuse or rape they know about. Only seven states have laws requiring priests to report this information.
Catholic priests are not the only people who hear people's confession in religious contexts. Scientology uses a process known as auditing which allegedly helps people "rid themselves of their spiritual disabilities." Like priests they are exempt from having to report any abuse they've learned about in a confession or similar process, and do not have to provide testimony in a court of law.
A lot of people have come forward to report their experience of sexual abuse within all kinds of religious institutions. Many times people in the church know what is going on, but do nothing to stop it. A bill that started making its way through the California legislature last year would have made CA the first since 1999 to require priests to choose between violating the law or violating the seal of the confessional.
As predicted, virtually every religious institution fought back and the law was withdrawn. One bishop argued, "If any legislature can force believers to reveal their innermost thoughts and feelings shared with God in confession, then truly there is no area of human life that is free or safe from government. Another added, "Surely murder, theft, spousal abuse, child neglect and rape are terrible crimes. Would the state determine that priests are obligated to report these offenses to the authorities, should they hear of them in the confessional?"
Um... sure, why not?
The argument is that forcing individuals to choose between the most sacrosanct part of their religious beliefs and imprisonment is what the Bill of Rights was entirely meant to avoid. Do you agree, and if so do you agree to the point where that applies to clergy and confessionals from ALL religious denominations? For instance, if I said I shouldn't have to report child molestation that I know is occurring because of my devout Pastafarianism and belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, would that be acceptable? And if you don't agree, explain why you think the 1st amendment does not apply to rape or child abuse.

In post 181 HistoryBuff said the US has a relatively low tax rate for a first world country. In post 184 Greyparrot brought up a red herring about how our tax rate used to be lower. I pointed this out in post 185. When you say he "did respond" to what I noted I'm not sure what you're talking about. If you're confused by my point then I would refer you to post #186 where HistoryBuff explains why GPs response to him was in fact a fallacious red herring.
As for Grey's other points, some I agree with and some I don't, but I don't find him enjoyable to converse with so I just commented generally about the red herring.

I think GP's point was that we get very little back for what we pay in taxes.
Yes, that was his point but it's not what I responded to. It's true for some people.

@Greyparrot
The quote you highlighted was "the US has fairly low effective tax rates for a 1st world country." You responded by giving the marginal tax rates for 1913 and saying that tax rates were the same for everyone back then, plus there was no filing status. The way I paraphrased the fallacious red herring was accurate.
And note I didn't reference anything about whataboutism either just like I never mentioned anything about normalcy. You just make things up.

@Lunatic
Is there an ability that can tamper with OP's?
I don't know what this means, but there is no tailor in the game; there is no ability to manipulate how roles appear in the game once someone is dead. No trick, riddle, gimmick or word play -- I just want flips to be revealed the next day instead of once someone is lynched. I do this in 50% of my games. I probably won't always clarify there is no Tailor when I do it, but I just felt like doing so today :)

I don't want 11 other PMs asking me so I will reiterate there is no Tailor or ability to Tailor a role in this game :)

Rules and some mod notes:
Standard rules apply. No editing or deleting posts, no copy and pasting roles, and no outside communication from non mod created messages with other players in the game. Flips will occur the following day phase, but I will acknowledge there is NO TAILOR in this game.
Please ask me any questions in your private role PMs. I will not answer most questions publicly in the day phase. This is to avoid giving any potential game breaking information. I generally won’t answer questions about how the roles work mechanically, unless that role is already flipped and in the graveyard. I do this just to play on the safe side as a mod -- believe it or not sometimes even answering small questions can really screw over a scum team and it’s not fair to them. I will try to be consistent and as fair as possible while using my discretion about how to answer.
As far as roles go, your understanding of how a role works might not be the same as mine. I utilize role descriptions from all different sites, and sometimes I just take inspiration from the role and add my own tweaks to it. Sometimes I completely make roles up as an experiment as well. Sometimes my modding mechanics are not the same from game to game, i.e. if X-shot roles keep their abilities on being role blocked or not.
I will also not explicitly say if a player has been role blocked; I may utilize different phrasing if a night action does not go through. It all depends on the game. Everything is on the table, and I mod each game separately according to the specific vision I have for it. In this game I'm choosing to be pretty vague. If there are any questions on how a role role works that isn’t in the graveyard, I will refer you to this OP to make things simple.
All roles in this game were randomly assigned. Please do not try to analyze role PM structure or the timing of when you think someone is online or on Discord. I will not ban these kind of frivolous discussions, but I'm warning you that I may try to play games so consider this at your own risk :) I also gave scum options of fake character + role claims in this game, but you are welcome to focus on theme analysis if you wish. Good luck everyone!

I have plans tonight, so hopefully I can start the game tomorrow. At least two more players would be ideal. Warren? Ragnar? WaterPhoenix?
The theme will either be: Christmas, 2020 - A Year in Review, or WIFE Mafia a.k.a. Women I'd Fuck Erryday if it weren't for my WIFE Mafia.
Any preferences? I'm leaning toward Christmas or 2020 to be festive cuz I could do WIFE Mafia at any time :P

@ILikePie5
I think on balance mafia might have been a bit more powered, but keep in mind we didn't have a fake role claim for whatever that's worth. Supa gave us Cop which I thought was too risky to use in a game with a Dreamer and Bride. It did help that we could claim our real characters and such (I didn't) but not having to struggle for that should be standard for themed games IMO. I will say that including so many n00bs made this a difficult game for town which I really did believe from the start, though warren and Ragnar could have alleviated that had they participated more.
Town didn't play their best. Elminster getting himself mod killed for no reason helped mafia and so did people letting drafterman get away with not role claiming. I happened to be scum in this game, but I SWEAR I WILL LYNCH ANYONE WHO DOESN'T ROLE CLAIM WHEN THEY HAVE SUFFICIENT PRESSURE lol that is absolutely true even when I'm town. I don't even care if it causes us to lose to TP mimes or jesters or whatever. I hate that ish w/ not claiming. Ya'll let drafter get away with that for TWO day phases. Tsk tsk.
Anyway drafterman played smart to lay low. Had he gotten lynched things could have been different. I think everyone forgets in the end game how swingy things can be. Like if Mikal didn't get himself killed we wouldn't have had the numbers we did and would have had to utilize different strategies.

Inactivity caused town to lose, mostly because once drafter replaced Corey, the scum team was OP as fuuuck.
I resent this. I posted the majority of analysis in the game and came up with like 5 fake role claims all on my own lol pfft. Pretty sure we woulda done just fine.

That's true. I'm pretty confident MC is town now anyway because we know there is an extra killing role (Pie). Whether Pie is vig, serial killer or maf with an extra killing ability, we know he has the ability to shoot and nobody claimed Doc or Jailkeeper so a Bulletproof claim makes sense. I think I'm just wary about MC's sudden participation in Mafia although he's been MIA again this day phase so maybe I'm reading into it.
If you're telling the truth about him visiting Speed NP1, then we know MC is probs town because nothing negative happened to Speed. He didn't die, he wasn't role blocked (he used his ability on you) and he wasn't framed or anything because there is no Cop. So at this point MC is probably my #1 town read assuming you are also town and telling the truth about him visiting Speed. Obviously you could be lying, but coupled with Speed's flip + game mechanics I think you are both probs town.
Re: WaterPhoenix claiming Redirector, I'll refer you to my response to Speed about that. It makes sense for mafia to claim a role they can prove. Even if it's a potentially scummy role, it leads to their credibility. For instance Pie could be serial killer but his vig claim is believable enough because he's proven he can shoot. The Redirector claim alone didn't sell me on him being scum but coupled with other things I mentioned he's in my scum pile.
Re: warren, to confirm you only read him town because of his role justification?

Thinking more about it, MC has to be town. There's no way the town has no protective abilities when we have a known vig or serial killer who could kill along with the mafia. A 1-shot BP also makes sense because it allows the town to test a vig claim had Pie claimed before being able to use/prove his role. Hmm. It may be warren instead of MisterChris.
Created:
Posted in:
The reason I wanted warren's claim is because I wanted to know if he was a Jailkeeper, and if not, I would sus MisterChris a bit. On NP1 I was role blocked and on NP2 I was not. That means the mafia either targeted someone else who didn't have a role and therefore wasn't told they were role blocked (the way Ragnar allegedly targeted drafter and drafter wasn't told), OR, I believe the mafia had a 1-shot role blocking ability which makes sense with mafia JOAT.
In MC's favor, his other two roles are allegedly Oracle and Bulletproof. The fact that we have no cop makes it more likely there is an Oracle role in the game, especially a 1-shot Oracle considering Speed's Dreamer role was also 1-shot. A Bulletproof also makes sense when there's a chance for extra NKs (the mafia kill + Pie) and NO claimed Doctor or Jailkeeper. I find it hard to believe Supa wouldn't give town any investigative abilities or protection abilities which makes MC's claim a bit more believable. However that doesn't explain there being no role block last night unless mafia targeted someone without a role.
In that case, if the mafia did target someone without a role by accident I feel like it could have been Ragnar targeting drafterman. Again Ragnar claimed Motivator AFTER Drafter had claimed Beloved Princess, so if Ragnar role blocked drafterman not knowing his role (I guess drafter's refusal to claim hinted he had a role?) and then found out drafter wasn't told he was role blocked, the Motivator was a good fake claim because he knew drafter wouldn't get any messages.
This goes back to Ragnar being my #1 lynch preference, however I am open to considering these and other candidates. I want to hear from everyone before vtl.
