From a Materialist view will the future have Religion, and should it?
-->
@Critical-Tim
If you believe it then you believe it, I was asking if you believed it and why. Though, I'm glad you provided some further context. Do you think perhaps religion cultivates a common good and evil for society to unify and progress?
Religion is a complex subject like any cultural expression of mankind, like arts, literature, music, etc. I'd say religion sets the way humanity sees the world and depending on that society can progress or get stuck.

It's not a theory of mine, by the way. Max Webber stated that capitalism has its roots in protestantism, which means not all Christianity churches are the same. That would explain why latinamerica (where I come from) is fucking stuck, specially for the Franciscan order whose mindset is very marxist.

Do you believe that whether religion is based on truth does not matter, but what matters is how it inspires people?
I wouldnt say truth but facts. Religions are not based on facts but faith.

Specifically what social and economic indicators do you believe suggest certain religions are better than others?
There are many indicators everybody knows that tell us that, like the GDP per capita, gini.coefficient, happiness index, etc.

Are you saying education is driving people from their religious beliefs toward atheism, implicating that atheism is more intelligent, but also indicating that Atheism lacks the unity that Christianity provided, which will cause society to weaken?
Education means well informed, not more intelligent.

But yes, atheism lacks this human spirit that societies need to endure.

There are more Americans working now than before COVID hit.
Why don't you tell us the whole story? The employers reduced the number of work hours so not to fire employees. Besides, there are more americans working, yes, but in part-time jobs.

According to the experience, the increasing in part-time jobs is a signal of a coming recession.

@Critical-Tim
Do you then believe that a society's religion is dominantly responsible for its success?
It's not my belief, it's what many intelectualls point to, like Niall Ferguson in his book Civilization. It's not the only variable for success, but it's indeed important because it forges values and a certain attitude in people which can be decisive for any society's progress.

Do you think it is or isn't important for the religion to be based in truth, and why?
It's not about truth but interpretations. Maybe the creators of religions didnt intend to lie but to explain the world from their point of view which can look idiotic today. Christianity for example is based on how the followers of Jesus interpreted his words. It doesn't matter the stories and interpretations but how these stories have inspired people to live and thrive.

Do you then believe that Judaism is better than Christianity, which is better than Islam? By what metric did you evaluate?
Correlation between religion (differetiating between sects) and social/economic indicators. The advanced societies are western Europe and the US (protestantism), Israel (judaism) and eastern asia (buddhism). Things are changing for bad, of course, with all this woke culture (marxism which is atheist) but that's another story.

Everyone should understand, by the way, that the collective mindset in a country comes basically from the religion these people profess.

Do you then believe that Christianity provides something Atheism lacks, and what exactly?
As I said, Christianity has inspired people, it's what motivates them to thrive. However, I think Christianity is getting more unbearable today as a belief because people are more educated and the new generations are more critical.

As to atheism, it's just the expression of what I was saying, that Christianity is unbearable as a belief. Atheism doesn't provide anything in change.

Can you describe the new age movement and whether you believe it captures what religion has that you believe science lacks?
You said that religions are being slowly replaced by more secular beliefs, would you elaborate?
I would love to elaborate but I don't have time. There is a thread that I opened about it in the religion forum, you can check it out.

Do you think science could become a religion if people choose to believe in science?
Science is not a religion and will never be so. It's true that people nowadays believe blindly in what scientists say, but it's not a religion because it doesn't have the sociocultural component religions have.

What constitutes a better society and civilization?
In current social standards, there are indicators that tell us what society is better than others. And I'm pretty sure religions play an important role on it, just see the islamic countries.

Would society be better if everyone was religious?
I think it's not just a matter of religions but what is the role of religions on societies, I mean how people use the religion. It's a very complex issue, because for example christianity is present in several countries but not all the countries took advantage of it for their own progress. To me, the most efficient religion I've ever seen is the judaism because jews have outperform any other society in this world. Jews have shown that they can progress no matter what the obstable may be, they even survived the nazis which is very telling, and their religion had to do a lot with their survival.

Would society be better if everyone's religion was unified, and is it possible to ethically achieve this?
We really don't know. What I can say though is that religions should be as effective for people's lives as it is the judaism. Religions can tell the most illogical stories ever heard, it doesn't matter, what really counts is how people use it for their own progress, socially and economically. Being said that, the least recommended religion to me is the islam, I think I don't need to give further explanations.ย

Would society be better if everyone was Atheist?
No. As I said, religions should encourage people to keep progressing. I don't see atheism do the same thing. You can replace religions with another set of beliefs, like new age beliefs, but replace it with nothing would be useless. Even asians, who are thriving economically, believe in something (in Budha) even though buddhism is not a theistic religion (there is no god).

What are the pros and cons to society of people being religious vs Atheist?
Atheism is just a reaction to christianity mainly. At the end atheists are basically christian atheists.

Will society move past religion towards a more scientific understanding of the world, and would it be better or worse for society?
No. Science has deep limitations to understand the whole world. What I see is that religions are being replaced slowly but surely with more secular set of beliefs, like the new age movement or the buddhism.

Could science or another alternative fill the void that was once filled by religion?
As I said, the new age movement seems to be a good substitute, but it could be another similar.

Where did Morality come from.
-->
@YouFound_Lxam
Everything is relative and everything is in the mind. In the past, children sacrifice was considered morally good because people thought it would soothe the "madness" of the gods, until someday people realized that children sacrifice was all bullshit because it didn't work most of the time.

I remember a social experiment in a pair of twins that were seperated and raised in different environments, one was raised in a regular family, I guess he was taught the christian morality, and the other was raised in a criminal environment with no moral. The results were what we can expect, one ended up being a "model" person and the other a fucking criminal.

The conclusion I can draw from that is that morality is in an ongoing process of trial and modification according to the results. If it's convenient for humanity in a specific time, people keep it, but if not, people modify it at convenience. For example, it was thought that homosexuality was inmoral, but now it's not. Moral is not natural but artifical. Same with religions.

To tag along with this, most people from non French cultures do not recognize the French authorities as being legitimate. Many european thinkers saw this problem coming long time ago, and it's not just about people coming from third world countries but people with a diametrically opposed cultural background to the european one.

We are talking about people that don't feel french even though they were born in France, so they're incapable of integrating to the european society to the point that they despise french culture and Christianity (what a surprise!!). This is something that is not seen in other ethnic groups like latinos or asians.

Europe is going to implode thanks to the left policies and specially their useless woke culture.

Supreme Court allows certain businesses to discriminate who they will serve
-->
@Lemming
There 'are platforms that nearly everyone uses or expects others to use though,
Gmail for example.
I think Gmail is a massive service meant to be accesible to everyone, but in the case of a webpage like this one, is more like a tailored service for a specific client, in which case a professional should be involved.

As in my example, a lawyer can refuse to defend a determined person for different reasons because he should tailor a defense strategy to that particular client, and maybe the lawyer doesn't get along with the client so he can refuse to keep defending him, it's his right to do so. Another example, a hooker can refuse to give her services to a client for different reasons, maybe because he smells bad or has a too big dick, or whatever, it's her right to do so.

To me it makes total sense. I met some people that denied their services to other people, not necessarily gays, because they're free to deal with whoever they want. Example of it are the lawyers, architects, engineers, hookers, ... come on, as long as it's not a public service, they cannot be obligated to contract with a specific person.

What I consider a public service, though, is any kind of store accessible from the public space. So, if it's a bakery shop, they cannot deny their service.

I'm using "educated" as a way of saying well informe people, mainly in history matter. When you know the history of humanity, not just the western history, you will notice a lot of patterns among religions, which proves it's human-made.ย

But if you forgot for one moment the concept of the God religions pose, which is very annoying to me, you would notice that our existence needs a "raison d'etre", a cause, an inception, or at least a convincing explanation if you like so, something that science can't give because of its evident limitations. And by doing so, it's obvious that we, as educated people, would cast religions out in such search.

Plus, back then kids could buy porn. The older kid buys porn and brings it to younger kids. No one cared. Now kids can find porn in 5 seconds and still no one cares lmao
I've just said it's the responsability of parents to watch out what their kids do or not. Today it's possible to safely give a smartphone to a child using parental controls. It's not that difficult.

Ban the whole porn industry is absurd because it would affect everyone and everything.

What it's going on here, though, is that you're with all the fvcking Christian vibe (which looks pretty fake to me because you're a troll) so you're trying to convince us that porn is evil and we should get rid of it. ๐Ÿ˜†

I don't know if my experience can help in this thread, but I started to see porn at 9yo with my brothers and friends when internet didn't exist, at least not at home (early 90s). Where there is a will there is a way, so we always figured out how to get a vhs tape porn.

I think it's parents' responsability to take care of what their children watch or not, because at the end the service is paid by them and there are plenty of available tools to achieve that, so there is no excuse to ban a vital service like porn.ย  ๐Ÿ˜

how to reconcile 'eternal punishment' with God's love

@DavidAZ
You hit the nail on the head! The new-age and Christian world today are very similar. Love everybody, just have good feelings, don't make waves, etc. It is very "Hippie". (Not sure if they had that where you are from.) The truth is that true Christianity is different than most ways of life.
Similar output, different means. And it's not hippie, a hippie is a dirty lazy junkie.

New age is honest, it doesn't need to threaten the person with a terrible punishment of eternal fire. Even a shrink can tell that new age is better than the sadistic ways of Christianity.

The idea of alien life is very fun to think about and super fun to hear stories of abductions and visitations and UFO sightings, but in the whole scheme of things, it doesn't erase God out of the picture.
I would die to see that, specially when these aliens show their skills to cure and make miracles, they're going to be the new God for the ignorant masses.

Maybe that's the reason why they don't show up yet, humans are not ready for that revelation.

how to reconcile 'eternal punishment' with God's love
if you have low vibrations and are sinful, you will experiences low vibrations and consequences to sin, and a less fulfilled life.ย
This sounds like the new age movement which states that all our emotions can be explained by our vital energy vibrating at different frequencies, being the energy at low frequencies corresponding to bad or dense emotions like sadness, hatred, fear, and so on.

According to these new age principles, it's highly recommended to die vibrating at high frequencies which means we should be loving, happy, and thankful just before we die so to come back to the universal consciousness (also called God), otherwise we would keep wooble around as suffering souls.

Having said that, I can go right ahead to heaven if I get really conscious about my bad deeds, no matter how horrible it was, and repent me. In other words if I wake up "spiritually" and vibrate at high frequencies, I can go to heaven.

So, if I was a killer, an abortist, a fornicator, a rapist, a thief, in short, a real mother fvcker, and if I repent for all what I did and feel true love before dying, I go to heaven. It's quite similar to what Christians state but more straightforward and sensical.

What do you believe?

Whoโ€™s fault is it that so many people are seeking asylum in America?
-->
@Greyparrot
The United States has been involved in the ongoing instability in Venezuela through various means over the years. One significant aspect is the imposition of economic sanctions in response to human rights abuses, democratic erosion, and corruption. These sanctions have targeted Venezuelan government officials and entities, as well as the country's oil sector, impacting its economy. The U.S. has also expressed support for opposition figures, recognizing Juan Guaidรณ as the interim president and calling for democratic reforms and free and fair elections. Diplomatic measures, such as withdrawing recognition of the Maduro government and coordinating efforts with international partners, have been taken to address the crisis. Additionally, the U.S. has provided humanitarian aid to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Venezuela. A troubling trend with modern American meddling is that democracies seem to need more intervention proportional to that country's oil reserves. Venezuela, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Ukraine...

@Tradesecret
We don't need indisputable evidence like an alien footage or a face-to-face interview with those beings to confirm alien life, it's just a matter of comparing testimonies and findings from ancient civilizations, and all of them point to the existence of human-like beings that come from the sky which is nothing more than an alien civilization.

And I understand your worry and fear. I know that these findings could trigger a collective panic among believers and even worst an existencial crisis. So, we should be prepared because the UFO phenomenon are more common than ever and that could only mean that these aliens are planning to show up sooner or later. Even Pancho (the pope) is suggesting the existence of aliens, so I don't know why you refuse to accept the unavoidable.

Would extraterrestrial life discovery sway or even cramble christianity?
I've been watching a meeting about UFOs held by the NASA a while back and it certainly made me meditate on the implications of the extraterrestrial life confirmation for religions in the near future, specially for christianity which is the dominant religion in the western society.

The NASA didn't confirmed anything yet but they promised to investigate more so to give a convincing explanation for that phenomenon, even though we all know that alien life is almost a reality from every point of view. As a matter of fact, the Vatican has already been ahead of the curve in discussing about the subject, maybe knowing that it would have deep implications on the number ofย  church $$$ memberships $$$.

As to the way this discovery would impact on christianity, it's well known that there are lot of biblical passages that suggest the participation of extraterrestrial beings in the jewish history in which they are confused with angels and even with God. For example, according to the bible the prophet Elijah was taken to heaven by a "chariot of fire", but who knows if this wasn't a chariot but an alien aircraft or UFO as we know it today and Elijah was in fact abducted?

So, most of the nonsensical stories in the bible could be explained by the intervention of an alien civilization in the fate of the earth. It's also said that aliens are actually more evolved human beings that did put the human seed in this planet and once in a while they come over to see how we're getting on. Being said that, there is no need of religions.

What do you think? Is Christianity in danger?
