Black diversity according to Joe Biden

@TheUnderdog
There is not much we can do about domestic radical ideologies except for what we already do: use our free speech to criticize the heck out of their free speech.

But for potential immigrants, they are not citizens. They do not have 1st Amendment protection. We have the right to be selective about who enters. I propose a lax system: all can enter as long as they share a love for our country and its values. This is a basic request that all civilized nations should have, or they will suffer internal strife. (Look at Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, etc. Some diversity in opinion is good for a nation, but diversity in basic national values is not).

And there is the difference between policy difference and value difference. Back when our national identity was not being attacked at all angles, Democrats simply held policy differences. They still loved America, capitalism and the American dream, they wanted immigrants to be legal, and they wanted to fight Communism.  Only recently has the rational left been destroyed and replaced with radical anti-Americans.

We need a return to sanity. We need the rational left back. And we need to get a handle on the foreign ideologies pouring into our nation.

She's got the right idea about the Constitution and the size of our government. However, I'm not sure how I feel about her immigration and criminal reform policy,  as well as her "One Giant Switzerland" military policy.  For example, she advocates for almost completely unfiltered immigration. I disagree. I believe it is within our rights as a nation to filter immigrants by ideology. If they do not support democracy and capitalism, as well as defend the American Dream then they should not be permitted entrance into our nation just to be a parasite on the system that they intend to destroy. If they support our values and want to fight for our legacy, I say welcome them all with open arms.

Just about everything else I agree wholeheartedly with her on.

That said, my research into Joe Jorgenson is preliminary at best. To summarize, I think she is better than Trump, but I'm skeptical of a few big things and would have to be convinced.

Traditionally, ethics has held back science.

For example, biology and medicine as a science had a hard time progressing until the era of Enlightenment, simply because people were horrified at the thought of dissecting a human carcass. It took people to get down and dirty to uncover the mysteries of human biology, and they usually did it with great controversy. It is good that they did it anyway, as without them we would still be using leeches to treat a cold.

This is not to say that in every case we should choose science over traditional ethics, this is just to say that in the past, ethics has held back scientific progress for better or for worse.  However, we are coming upon a time now when we may start having to choose ethics over science (cloning, genetic modification, using a fetus for study, weapons of mass destruction) for the sake of preserving our morality and possibly our species as a whole.

ok, but that's a bit like screaming "Teachers are rapists!!!". There are teachers that are rapists. Most are not. So saying it is extremely inaccurate. And making it about race makes it extremely racist.

You're the one who made it about race.

it was made to unconstitutionally search and harass people. It was targeted at minority communities. Therefore it was a policy designed to illegally harass minorities. Forgive me for not cheering for the government violating the constitution to target people of color for harassment because they thought they knew what was best for them.
As for it's constitutionality, I can't really comment because I don't know the nuances of the court case on the policy.  The rest of this I have already refuted.

i don't understand your disbelief. Racist people are fine with having people of color doing manual labor.
Only when they aren't competing against white applicants. Yet, out of the white applicants and the black applicants they chose a disproportionate amount of black applicants, and yet they are still racist towards black applicants? It's really a nonsense argument.

And when you drop the assumption that they are all doing manual labor (they are definitely not, we've had a black president for Pete's sake) the whole thing falls apart even further.

100% agree. Being a minority is not a credential. I mean look at kamela harris. She is awful. She still laughs about how she tried to arrest parents over truancy.
Yup, people should be judged based on merit.

Anyway, my main point with that is that if people find success running for office on the "I'm a minority vote for me" platform, then racism in politics is a very moot issue.

why would you think that? trump called mexicans rapists and still won. Racism (as long as you can hide it behind a veneer of something else) is fine with alot of people.
No, he didn't say all Mexicans are rapists. He said rapists are coming through the southern border illegally, and that is true. More specifically, human trafficking (and large amounts of sex trafficking with it). Whether you like it or not, criminal operations in the US are largely fueled by our open border with Mexico.

what about things like stop and frisk? That was a policy that was almost exclusively aimed at harassing people of color. The fact that this policy was allowed to happen at all, let alone continue to be defended to this day, shows you that racist policies are not unusual.
No, the policy was not made or aimed at harassing people of color. It was created to save lives. In fact, it saves mostly colored lives. Police in New York stopping colored people at a higher rate can be chalked up to a few things.

- Black people disproportionately commit crime, whether you like it or not. This means more witnesses report the suspects as black, more blacks get frisked and questioned, and police patrol black residential areas more. BJS shares more insight:
“From 1980 to 2008, the homicide offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000).”

- As preemptive caution. There is tension from previously stated disproportionate crime. Officers are killed by blacks at a rate 2.5 times higher than the rate at which blacks are killed by police. The caution is somewhat justified.

Regardless, most violence in the black community is black on black. So ironically, you are accusing a policy of being racist when it disproportionately saves black lives.

these stats don't tell me where they work. If the Federal government hires all minority janitors that does not mean there isn't an issue with racism.

Let's assume all of them were janitors for a second. You're telling me racist people in power want to hire a disproportionately high amount of black janitors? You're really reaching here bud. If they were racist, they may hire a proportionate amount of black janitors, but disproportionately high? You can't be serious.

Anyway, when the sole platform of many campaigns is "I'm a minority vote for me," I think you're out of the loop on this one.

Let's use the US as an example, since that is the system that gets the most hate.

As you say, systemic racism is racism tolerated within or perpetuated by the government.

But the US system does neither. You act as if overt racism is not something that will get you fired before you even make it to a position of true power (with rare exceptions, which in a country on the scale of the US are easily outweighed to the point of insignificance). Racism is a campaign-killer in the US for a reason, and as for police, there is no evidence that officers target black civilians at a rate higher than their per capita crime rate.

You also ignore the fact that the US federal gov employs a disproportionately  HIGH number of minority Americans:
“The percentage of minorities in the Federal Workforce increased by 0.4 percent to 35.3 percent in FY 2014 from 34.9 percent in FY 2013, which is notably greater than the percentage of the Civilian Labor Force that is comprised by minorities (32.5 percent).”
Doesn't reflect systemic hiring discrimination to me.

i dont think the federal government is dysfunctional, do you?
To echo Pie and Greyparrot,  bloated bureaucracy and the blatant nonobservance of the Constitution does not help, but for the moment it is functional.

Problem is, the above problems are getting worse, as is partisanship. Something needs to change soon or domestic terrorism and civil conflict will eventually ensue.

Dickheads exist everywhere, and what goes one way also goes another.

How many people have been saved by non-dickhead police? Probably far more people than those who have had bad police experiences.

And are police the only bad guys? Not by a long shot. Take the BLM movement, completely disregarding the fact that officers are killed by blacks at a rate 2.5 times higher than the rate at which blacks are killed by police. Yet, they claim blacks are the victims of the police-black dynamic.

At the same time,  that doesn't mean there aren't brutal or discriminatory police. And I am sure you could make a reasonable argument that police tend to assume the worst when it comes to black suspects.

Stuff like this just reminds me that people see what they want to see. If you want to see systemic discrimination and brutality, that is what you will see; no matter what the facts say. If you want to think police are saints, then that will be your worldview as well.

As for me, I hold the position that everyone is flawed, but the system probably isn't out to get you. You're not that important.

@ludofl3x
Under Occam's Razer, I think it is much more likely for the universe to have a creator than for the universe to have created itself. Can it be proven? No. But it's reasonable. There are other happenstances that I think point towards a creator as well. For example, the moral code that humans follow, as well as the thirst for justice innate in our species. Consider biogenesis, it is unable to happen in our most advanced of labs yet we expect it happened on its own naturally?

There is an amusing quote that puts it in perspective.
"Imagine 10^50 blind persons each with a scrambled Rubik's cube, and try to conceive of the chance of them all simultaneously arriving at the solved form. You then have a chance of arriving by random shuffling of just one of the many bio-polymers on which life depends. The notion that not only the bio-polymers but the operating program of a living cell could be arrived at by chance in a primordial organic soup here on the Earth is evidently nonsense of a high order." - New Scientist, Vol. 92, No. 1280 on page 527

The assertion of a creator is a valid one, whether you believe it or not.

What is your favorite argument for the existence of God?
Definitely the Kalam Cosmological Argument.

  1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
  2. The universe began to exist.
  3. Therefore, the universe has a cause.
In order for the universe to have a cause, then, there must have been an uncaused first cause (a cause outside of time and space).

From here, you compare:

Atheism: Universe began, unknown cause (that will likely never be identified in any convincing manner)

Theism: Universe began, God was the uncaused first cause.

@RationalMadman
I think the way you tied the characters into ideology is interesting, and I would say parts of that are valid comparisons. I think probably the hard work > talent theme that Naruto and Rock Lee share is a great part of libertarian ethos and I would agree with you that the left wing ethos of community effort works similar to that of clans and certain squads. For further example, look into how the Uchiha prioritize their kin over the village, they have a close-knit community that feels as though the system is against them (you could potentially draw parallels to classism in Marxist theory). Obviously they are portrayed as having invalid grievances, but it's simply an example.

IMO, A lot of the comparisons are a stretch though, especially for something not intended to make political commentary (I also don't think the Right wing ethos is as Darwinian as you portray, it's more like as Fuegoleon Vermillion says in Black Clover: "There isn’t any shame in being weak, the shame is in willfully staying weak." )
