16 isn't much older than 14.

I wonder if it was a 30 year old man with 12 year old girl, would people still defend it like this?
Clearly not, since people voted to make age of consent laws specifically for girls. Courts ruled it had to go both ways.

if it's a strategy, it's a pretty bad one, considering we're going to lynch him by default lol
It's basically WIFOM. The more we suspect the strategy is bad and he wouldn't use it, the more useful of a strategy it becomes, etc. It's not a great reason for a sus, but it's the only one we have, and the WIFOM logic (however weak) doesn't apply as much to the new players.

Yeah, I'm not advocating we lynch a nonresponder until the last possible moment.

Yeah, WyIted has been in games before, he's less likely to forget about it. If anyone is using their absence as a "strategy" hoping we'll ignore them, it's WyIted. The others might have just forgotten, and if they are scum, they'll probably fail their night actions anyway and we don't need to worry.

It's creepy that someone would exploit a power imbalance to sleep with their 12-year-old student.

they find it disgusting and creepy
Lol, maybe because it is? And this would mean the female teacher (a woman) should know better.

I agree that no one so far looks "scummy." As much as I hate the idea of lynching an inactive, going without a lynch the first day or lynching someone townie seems worse to me. If WyIted isn't back by the end of the day phase, he's my top lynch. He should know better. If he shows up before then, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt provided he gives a full claim.

Women can't relate to that
Plenty of teenage girls sleep with their teachers.

Makes me feel as if he's looking to try and push an agenda on someone early on.
When I wasn't aggressive last game everyone tried to lynch me for it. Almost couldn't use roleblock.

all actions are wrong as there is always power imbalance
There's degrees of power imbalance. Kids are super impressionable, and they have to listen to adults basically all the time.

At a certain point, Chesterton's fence applies. The law indicates that significant problems arose, at least for a large amount of people, to impose age restrictions. I would weigh even a small risk of psychological trauma as more pressing than sexual pleasure.

@Best.Korea
However, your argument was that adults know better so they get to decide
Adults (by majority) decided to make age of consent higher than 12.
Created:

@Best.Korea
Even now, as an adult, I wish I had sex at an early age.
You don't know what the psychological effects would have been though. People can also wish they did drugs as a kid, but that's way different from actually having done it.

@Best.Korea
This is an appeal to law fallacy.
As soon as the term "rape" was brought up, we were discussing legal terms.
did 12 year olds become dumber in the past 300 years, or is law self contradicting?
The law changed around the time we banned child labor and got stricter on child abuse. If we made a law to prevent exploitation, you should at least suspect there was a reason to go to that trouble.
Created:

@Best.Korea
health from sex depends purely on the age of the person you are having sex with
No, but it's a significant factor. Teachers especially have explicit and implicit authority over students. And even if the odds of abuse are low, the risk is big enough that it's dangerous.
indoctrinates them into feeling shame
The law does not require anyone to shame statutory rape victims. But an adult can easily shame them into having sex due to the power imbalance.
Law bans that too. 30% of sex offenders on the sex offender's list came on the list as children, some as young as 8.
It's nowhere near as strictly enforced on minors.

@Best.Korea
If some woman let me fuck her back then, sure I would unless if she was ugly.
Yeah, that's why the law exists. Because kids are very impressionable.

@IlDiavolo
May I know what this trauma is about? You said it as if it were a rape.
It's statutory rape.
I wish I had been raped, then.
Ok, but that's not a reason to loosen rape laws.

Sex is much healthier than pot, thus the comparison is invalid.
Not sex with their teacher. They can sleep with someone their own age.

It's like the lottery, not everyone will win it.
It's like the lottery but with the risk of psychological trauma later. If 12-year-olds are too young for the actual lottery, maybe they're too young to sleep with an adult.

Last year I met an old man that told me very proudly about his sexual encounter with a teacher when he was 13. You should have seen how his eyes were shining when telling me his story. He said that he remembers this moment as though he did it last night and was very thankful to "God" that this happened to him because it was very beautiful.
Maybe this is true, but why did you have to describe it in the fakest-sounding way possible lol

Sex is a basic human need
Plenty of people survive without sleeping with their teacher.

any evidence of rape
It's statutory rape, legally

Here's a video from a scholar explaining why the assumption of univocality is not practiced in critical scholarship
That's still one guy. Also, just because scholars adhere to one thing in scholarship doesn't mean they don't have personal religious beliefs that differ.
I think univocality is an assumption we all find ourselves slipping into, that we can't help but treat the Bible like it speaks from one point of view
Well, that's because most of this is said when arguing between or against Christians who believe the Bible doesn't contradict.

Yet you are not banning porn.
Plenty of places are banning it for minors. Also sex is a bigger deal than porn. If we're banning pot for minors, banning sex with their teacher seems reasonable.

Most 12 year olds are horny.
Plenty of them want cocaine, alcohol, and hookers. If you support freedom, better let them have all of it.

Yeah, but gambling your student's psychological state for sexual pleasure seems pretty bad to me. She could just date someone her own age.

Austin's first post comes off a bit scummy to me. Maybe it's just because of how many times I've played with him specifically. As town he tends to start with posts that move the game forward, whereas when he's scum he's more likely to make posts that try to avoid any suspicion. i.e. "just checking in" or "Pie SOP claiming makes sense" which contributes very little.
