Just give the site code to the mods. They already have special perms anyways
There's nothing they can do with it.

They have no technical expertise or minimal coding experience.

For instance, you could never have an abortion debate under these standards. Either the pro-life side is advocating for enslaving women or the pro-choice side is advocating for slaughtering children. For one side to be right, the other side must be advocating a morally depraved belief. They likely don't believe their belief to be morally depraved, but then neither do racist people, for example.
I'm fine with subjects/topics or debates on abortion. These are common anyway.

But it depends on the extremity of the resolution and how it is worded.

And those are great questions and counter-arguments that poke holes in my framework, it's something I need to reconsider and give a lot of heavy thought.

My answer is that it depends on the subject/topic, but we need to establish where the line gets drawn. There needs to be some kind of line that is drawn, or we end up with the possibility of evil people spilling poison into the ears of other people.
Some thoughts are just too evil, that they don't deserve to be acknowledged. No amount of fancy wording can change the fact that some things are just too evil.

We need standards. Yes, free speech is important I value free speech. But not absolute, unrestricted free speech. There have to be limitations.

@Lemming
My idea of a site wouldn't condone hostility or disrespect of any sort. If someone's beliefs were so morally depraved or taboo, like homophobia or a nazi.
They would just be banned. I prefer things be done professionally, formally. By the book.
Like whiteflame, only stricter and more aggressive. Firm, but fair.

Now Trump supporters calling for the deportation of illegals would be allowed, and so would liberals disagreeing. But I would reinforce my ultimate standard of civil discussion indiscriminately. Therefore, Trump supporters expressing derogatory beliefs toward women or people of color would not be acceptable. But I wouldn't condone people attacking them for these beliefs, but the said user would be warned to stop expressing such views, or they may be banned without warning.

Likewise, claims that categorize all Trump supporters as racist or misogynistic would also be dealt with the same way.

Now although me and Adaptable share the same beliefs and goals about site & policy reform. Our similarities begin and end there.
The differences are our methods and motives.

ADreamOfLiberty, Shila, Best.Korea, and Wylted would be perma-banned.
For me, it's not because I dislike those users or anything. It's because they are problematic people who were or are expressing extreme and taboo views or have crossed the line, which is not acceptable to me. But I would not condone anyone harassing them or being hostile.
I'm removing feelings from the equation. It's strictly business.

According to Adaptable, his motives are a little bit more personal and ideological. Which is completely reasonable and justifiable.
I admire someone with a mission that is passionate and remains true to their cause. I support his goals in this case and think he's a great guy.
But some of his views for total censorship, I believe are a little unrealistic.
I believe if it were up to Adaptable, his version of the website would be to remove whiteflame from his position as head-mod. Because Adaptable likely sees whiteflame as too passive and incompetent of a mod to lead this platform. (I could be misquoting. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

If it is up to me, I plan on reforming the site by using Adaptable's ideas for the new CoC, but I would keep whiteflame as the head-mod because I see him as a role model, and someone that could counter-balance unrestricted freedom of speech & complete censorship.
With Adaptable's policy ideas and whiteflame's enforcement, we would achieve the ultimate middle-ground and everybody wins.

But like I said. If I were head-mod, I would be like whiteflame.
Only stricter.

You do not have many users. How is becoming stricter going to help your site be active?
You are thinking my version is curbing the population to an already dying website.
My logic is full algorithm reset, with more global access to a broader demographic.

If you are returning, do not hand over the site token to anyone.
The moment you do, the site and its code is vulnerable to the mercy of whoever possesses it.

Even experienced coders like myself could make a syntax error. And then the whole site's functionality crashes. (This is common in big corporations, so do not make the same mistake.)
Please make sure that if you do hand out the code, it is to someone you can trust. ADreamOfLiberty is NOT the person for the job, We The Community, have already spoken out and decided against it.

Adaptable is incorporating my suggestion about wiping the site clean and starting over from a blank slate, and being stricter with the new policies.
His receptiveness to advice adds more credibility to his vision, in my opinion

EDIT: Granted, we don't have to blindly accept all details of his vision if they threaten or compromise certain universal values. In which case, we reject them.
But his heart is currently in the right place

In the unlikely event we meet somewhere on the internet after you're done sabotaging David, and you've been kicked to the curb or the website failed, I will never stop laughing and pointing.
Perhaps.
But if everything goes successfully and according to plan, you won't even exist here on this website anymore. But that may never come true, so don't worry.

I neither criticise the person nor their ideology...They are perfectly entitled to freedom of thought.

I simply question their ability to MODERATE, given their current state of mind.

And if you are a MODERATOR, the above example of moderation was a tad immoderate to say the least.

And if a long standing site member's opinion does not matter, then things have already taken a dramatic downturn.

I apologize for my original statement. You certainly have a point in that, I concede that you win this exchange.

As it currently stands, anyone is welcome to participate. David and everyone else in the server are the people calling the shots.

But it was mutually decided by Adaptable, David, and myself that ADreamOfLiberty will remain excluded from participating.

This is not personal in anyway. Moving forward, we have to do and guarantee what is in our best interests and the good of the site.

Not sure that a pseudo-Trumpian, born again evangelist as moderator, is particularly conducive to the necessities of moderation.
You can criticize Adaptable all you want. Your opinion does not matter.
These attacks on his character are not objective criticisms at all, these are your own personal feelings of bitterness.

But if that means depending on Liberty, or relying on his qualifications to help? Perhaps it's better to just let the site crash and burn.

I have programming experience ( a lot ) and my experience tells me that the owner being the programmer is just about the only way this kind of thing is going to work.
If there is a 15k annual income (for whatever reason) you can just barely afford pay for per change contract work.
There are a few other options:
1.) Use an off the shelf system and don't mess with it
2.) Fork an open source codebase and commit yourself to understanding the open source contributions (pull requests). Do not underestimate the difficulty of automatically deploying a new codebase.
I repeat: Do not let it become the personal project of a single (unpaid) volunteer. That kind of thing destroys friendships. It's thousands of man hours of work.
You're out, Liberty.

I'm going to be very direct here. You are not welcome on the team.
You will not be participating with this project anytime.

There's something that doesn't add up about the history or beliefs though.

Historians claim that Hinduism predates Christianity by many centuries, and hinduism is polytheistic.

And if Jesus is God in the flesh, then is Krishna meant to be a parallel since he is an incarnation of Vishnu?

@David
Yes, I fully agree with Adaptable. And I wish to show my support as a gesture of good will towards Adaptable, David, and the rest of the mod team.

This flew over the heads of many other people, but we don't have as many active mods nowadays. oromagi has been gone for a year, blamonkey will be busy over the summer, and Vader will be going to London for schooling. Barney and whiteflame are alone and have been carrying majority of the burden of responsibility.

David's return evens this out in my opinion.

(This is misworded. I understand the mods are busier IRL, and this is not a criticism in anyway.
This is meant to show how hard that Barney and whiteflame have been working. The mods who are less active now have contributed a lot, and I am grateful for what they do and have done.)

No I am out. I was clear you chose a side. Idc how petty you see it. I have standards and understand what loyalty and character is.

You are looking at it the wrong way.
I am neither a friend of yours or FishChaser's, and I am not taking sides in this particular beef. If I get involved in this conflict between you and him, it is only as a mediator and that is all.

I asked FishChaser to stop on your behalf, and he continued. So I removed him from The Tournament as a courtesy and respect to you.
Not out of moral obligation or loyalty.

As for the current Tournament, your name will remain as a contender. Your refusal to participate is an option, you will have five rounds to change your mind. But if you fall behind on the points you could have made, you will lose.

Anton Chigurh failed his primary mission.
In the movie No Country For Old Men, Anton fails his primary mission. His primary mission is to return the stolen money to its rightful owner, but he never gets to Moss in time and the money is retrieved by The Cartel. Meaning Anton failed.
Although the movie makes his success or failure ambiguous, it is my belief he failed.

In the book, it's clearly different. He wins and returns the stolen money to its rightful owner, and got a promotion.

As a Mormon, what are your feelings on Catholicism? I've been studying christianity lately and it would seem currently, that if I did end up converting. Catholicism remains a strong option. I went to a local Barnes & Noble the other day and bought The Catholic Bible from the category section labeled study bibles.

You're important. Your actions and contributions up to this point make his words meaningless. Nothing he says about you is even remotely true, he is The Bad Guy for doing all of this. I am 100% on your side and I have your back on this.

He is doing all of this to trigger you. Him triggering you and getting you to complain is giving him the validation he is trying to get from you. He tries to poke the bear with whiteflame too, to test the limits. And whiteflame doesn't take the bait.

Have you ever noticed that the only person to get the better of Wylted mentally was IWRA of all people?
Can you guess why?

Stoicism vs Epicureanism

Most of the comments I thumbs up are yours, and Savant's.
Sidewalker has a lot of good takes, but if I had to take a guess, I believe yours would be the highest as far as the ones I click like the most.

Are epicurean methods better for avoiding pain in your opinion than stoicism?

Your point about orthodox christian churches is slightly accurate, I've noticed. A lot of the teachings are strict about eliminating passions, and seeing passion as a sin. A lot of the monks starve themselves as a means of fasting.

I am of the belief that stoicism leads to nihilism and perpetuates suffering, but I was unsure if this was just my personal bias or a common feeling. I have only learned of epicureanism recently and I was intrigued. The fact that it is at odds with stoicism is fascinating.
I occasionally look in rubreddits to see what stoics think of epicureanism.
