Do you draw from the Nag Hammadi texts?

What do you think, Cas?

True Gnostics should not be confused with the false Gnostics of ages past, as represented by the codices and tractates discovered at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in 1945. Neither are we representative of those Gnostics which early church fathers argued against in their efforts to establish a single church orthodoxy with its attendant ecclesiastical authority.

Think about it

I did . And we have incitement laws in the UK.  But you won't see the same  authorities clamping down  on the  "disgusting points of view" being taught in the UK Madrassas to  Muslim children as young as five.

‘You’re not like the non-Muslims out there,’ the teacher says, gesturing towards the window. ‘All that evil you see in the streets, people not wearing the hijab properly, people smoking . . . you should hate it, you should hate walking down that street.’
He refers to the ‘non-Muslims’ as the ‘Kuffar’, an often derogatory term that means disbeliever or infidel.

Interesting that this [potential] terrorist wasn't deemed a terrorist threat at all.

Religion hey.

It's f**king brilliant.

Panders to one group whilst condemning and penalising another.

Animal stunning and killing
You must stun all animals before you kill them,.......................unless you’re carrying out religious slaughter.
When you stun an animal, it must remain unconscious and unable to feel pain until death. Once you stun it, you must kill it immediately. You can use stunning methods that instantly kill an animal, for example using a gun or rifle.

Penalties you could receive
If you commit an offence you’ll have to appear at a magistrates’ court.
If you’re found guilty of an offence you could be either:
  • given an unlimited fine
  • put in prison for up to 3 months

He went on: “Jihad, jihad, jihad. Jihad is compulsory. Jihad is fighting by sword. That means this jihad is compulsory upon you, not jihad is the word of mouth but jihad will remain compulsory until the Day of Resurrection…”

And he lost two sons fighting Allahs' "holy war".

Abubaker Deghayes rolled out that old excuse saying he was only explaining the meaning of Jihad by the sword as" self-defence ".

In harrowing footage, the sickened dad's daughter, now eight, was heard pleading:  “Oleg, that's enough, I can't take it anymore. I want to go home”.
The 34-year-old was suspected of stabbing Sviridov, 32, to death in a Russian forest after making him dig his own grave.
He originally faced a murder investigation - but has now been told this has been dropped, sources close to the case say.

Did I mention that I was appointed as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Bangladesh Court?

No you didn't. And I find that particularly interesting considering that you ARE also a defence lawyer in the English speaking country of Australia.  And you would have had to ALSO have been also able to speak the Bengali language,  the national language of Bangladesh. This is  not to mention the fact that you would ALSO have had to have studied  Bangladeshi law.

So please you just keep em coming Reverend Munchausen.

@GnosticChristianBishop
My definition is above.

No one argued against it.

That is exactly my point. He- Tradesecret -  IS arguing that to know what evil is we first need to answer all of his own questions.

Here>>#2

Tradesecret wrote: Hence the real question underlying this topic is - what is evil and what is good?

And the question that flows from that is - who decides what is evil and what is good?

Is evil real? Is good real? Are they merely ideals that people attach to their understanding of perfection or its opposite?

Are these concepts really just adjectives - descriptions of ideological notions?

And further, given all of the theological qualifications and accreditations the Pastor & Chaplain Tradesecret claims to have, one would have thought after all of his some 40 years of studying scripture in multiple languages that he would have had answers to these very basic questions to be able to define the word - evil. So we can only wait (a very long time I suspect) for him to answer those questions that he posed to you.

Personally I have no problem with the KJV bible's own dictionary definition of the word - evil. As I have shown above> #3

What is your favorite argument for the existence of God?
-->
@Tradesecret
Everyone shares information.

That's correct. And you certainly have shared a mass of information about yourself. So much so that it cannot be avoided on almost any thread you join.

Not everyone collect it and uses it for their point scoring.

What points do you believe I have scored against you Reverend?  Haven't you thanked me over and over for "promoting you"  and "showcasing" your theological knowledge and expertise, and urged me to continue to " brag about you and all of your credentials"?

You really are dense aren't you. I don't collect it. It is all collected in one nice large brief on this forum, or didn't you know that. I access it and simply deploy the appropriate comment, your own comment to the situation at hand. A good memory recall helps, I will admit.

I just repeat what you have said to remind you of what you have said and claims you have made in the past and when I see you using double standards and contradicting yourself..
And especially when you call others out for one reason or another, such as being ignorant and not understanding of scripture.  Or  for being"dumb as fuck" and "slime of Satan" or simply an "idiot".     You actually invite them- your own comments -  yourself.

Here is a perfect example of YOU inviting comments from YOUR OWN  back catalogue of comments:

Tradesecrete wrote: The irony of a religious forum where the atheist comes in swaggering like he knows everything

Stephen wrote: Not to mention the theist that "swaggers in" preening himself and parading all his qualifications and accreditations, in the false belief that these imagined qualifications and accreditations put him  at a higher ` holier than thou ` level than others...... on this forum.

Stephen wrote: Have a guess who that is, Reverend "Tradey" Tradesecrete?

Tradesecret wrote:

"I study the original languages, translate them to English",  #25

"I have my Hebrew teacher" #45

"But in my role as a pastor - which I also do, I counsel in pastoral care.  And yes, I am qualified by certified colleges with proper accreditation.  I am also a chaplain to our Countries Defence forces, a position I could not have without proper qualifications".  #20

"I do  understand Orthodoxy. I studied and was tutored by academics, scholars, and priests and fathers from the Orthodox Church". #91

"I counsel all of my clients never to answer yes or no. Why would I not take my own advice? Life is more complex than black and white - yes and no answers". #15

" I am a lawyer" #20
Stephen wrote: Some serious swaggering going on there, me thinks, Reverend "Tradey" Tradesecrete.
I mean talk about a gasconading Reverend.

Gasconading
To praise or express pride in one's own possessions, qualities, or accomplishments often to excess. the Baron Munchhausen was so notorious for gasconading about his purported exploits as soldier and hunter that his name has become synonymous with the telling of tall tales.

Take a look here and tell me what you think  Reverend Munchhausen?

Would you like me to show you the author of all of those claims? Because I can assure you it wasn't me that invented them out of thin air on your behalf.

@Yassine
This is what is known as the abrogation. i.e Muhammed says he was deceived and that these earlier verses were given to him in revelation by the Satan . The book then turns intolerant of,  and violent towards, the unbeliever - the kuffar
- Honestly though, where do you get all this stuff? I must know.

Yassine. You are no better than the Christian that goes into full denial concerning what their Bible actually says and I won't be going around in circles with you as I have done in the past . And neither will I play your tit for tat game of who committed more atrocities in  the name of their respective  so called ` religions` or god  because attempting to contextualise 7th Century Islam with 21st century Christianity is a none starter.

Sir William Muir (1819-1905) said; “the sword of Muhammad and the Quran are the most fatal enemies of civilisation, liberty and truth which the world has ever known... an unmitigated cultural disaster parading as God's will".
Winston Churchill 1874 - 1965: "Islam is as dangerous in a man as rabies in a dog".
William Gladstone 1809_ 1898  Quran, an accursed book, so long as there is this book there will be no peace in the world.
Winston Churchill 1874 – 1965 The religion of blood and war is face to face with that of peace. Luckily the religion of peace is usually the better armed. The Mahommedan religion increases, instead of lessening, the fury of intolerance. Propagated by the sword, and a form of madness.
Winston Churchill 1899: “Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.”
- You shouldn't be quoting Colonial war criminals responsible for millions of deaths as if some authority on mercy & tolerance.

Yes , well we all know who it was that went around the globe, colonising  and converting by the sword and well before the USA and a British Empire were even on the map. How many Muslim Empires were there 4? 5? quite large too weren't they.   Yes, I am sure the indigenous Spaniards, French, German, Yugoslavs and Indians just welcomed Islam with open arms.

And don't waste yours or my time by giving me that "in self defence" BS unless you can explain what Muslims were defending when invading the above mentioned countries.

We in the west only have a brave Polish King to thank that we are not speaking Arabic and kissing carpet 3 times a day.

The Quran is a vile book that preaches intolerance and death to anyone not Muslim. This is a stone cold fact. And please note, it is the book that I have a problem with and not  Muslims. Muslims to my mind are just as much a victim to Islam as anyone slaughtered and butchered and blown to pieces  in its name.

@Tradesecret
Is evil definable? Or not?

Until this question is addressed - or answered - probably the topic will not go too far.

You appear to be the most qualified , then why don't you address and answer it?

KJV dictionary defines evil

Having bad qualities of a natural kind; mischievous; having qualities which tend to injury, or to produce mischief.
Having bad qualities of a moral kind; wicked; corrupt; perverse; wrong; as evil thoughts; evil deeds; evil speaking; an evil generation.
Unfortunate; unhappy; producing sorrow, distress, injury or calamity; as evil tidings; evil arrows; evil days.

So, looking at that it simply means anything not good.

May They Just As Well Condemn The Bible To The Skip?
Then there are people such as Preterists, those that believe that the Second Coming of the Christ has already taken place and had happened way back in AD 69-70 as written about in Revelation.

So doesn’t this completely do away with the whole last book of the Bible? What is  the purpose of this last book if the event had already happened over 2050 years ago. Can it simply be that Revelation only now serves as an `historical` record of an event that is alleged to have occurred all that time ago?

Did I mention that I was a significant partner with the United Way Charity?

Did I mention that I was appointed as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Bangladesh Court?

This was during the times I was also senior lawyer with the DHHS in Australia.

And did I mention anything about my musical talents?

I was quite a cool musician in my teenage years - in a little Victorian Band.

And that was when I did not have duties with the highland pipe band.

I played the drums - couldn't sing. I was not very good at singing. But I loved the guitar.

Did I mention that I was also quite an impressive sportsperson excelling in cricket - as an opening batter /  keeper?

I played AFL for a well known footy team and was a state champion in both table tennis and chess.

Did I mention that I was quite proficient as a tennis player although I didn't take it up until I was in my 40s. But still was able to win some of the local tournaments.

Yes and this is forgiveness offered to only those that agree convert.

And it is as Wylted suggests :

This is what is known as the abrogation. i.e Muhammed says he was deceived and that these earlier verses were given to him in revelation by the Satan . The book then turns intolerant of,  and violent towards, the unbeliever - the kuffar

Islam the 7th century ideology  will never be compatible with western civilisation for the simple reason Muslims believe  the Quran to be " the last unalterable revelation from god". i.e it cannot reform.

The Rushdi novel affair ( for which there is still a fatwa - bounty - on his head, $6 million the last time I looked) should have been a wake up call for the West, although there were much earlier warnings about the Islamic threat many years before.

I don't tell lies.

"Tradey", you have done nothing but tell lies about yourself since the day you landed here, right down to telling  pointless lies concerning your gender. Why? 🤷‍♂️

If I was to list all of the things  that you have claimed about yourself, freely on this forum to have done in your short life of 54/55 years, my 6 year old granddaughter  could work out that there simply isn't enough time for you to have done what you have claimed to have done.

here's  a few

I studied and was tutored by academics, scholars, and priests and fathers from the Orthodox Church".

🤦‍♂️

"I  know the bible backwards - and frontwards - in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic ",

🤦‍♂️

"I have been taught to memorise since a very early age. I have read the bible numerous times. I try and read the OT once every year and the NT twice a year.  I know it reasonable well and can even read Hebrew and Greek.

🤦‍♂️

I am a lawyer.  I often want judgment that says my client is innocent. #231

🤦‍♂️

....my qualifications obtained from a world class reputable university....?  Are you saying .....Melbourne University is not a real qualification? #31
🤦‍♂️

No, I don't charge students,  I charge universities when they request me to lecture to them.  #20

🤦‍♂️

I devote a significant amount of my resources in trying to prevent abortions from happening. I also devote a significant amount of resources to programs which enable people to adopt children. I also devote a significant amount of my resources towards helping people who are left in homeless situations and are expected to be looked after by the government and its welfare programs.

I provide resources to my local church as well who have significant means of assisting people in impoverished places around the world and locally.

If I did not do any of these things - I still would not be indirectly killing people.

I have responsibilities for things and people I have been put in place with and are connected to.

🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

 I am a pastor of a church with over 300 people#67

🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

"I study the original languages, translate them to English",  #25

"I am qualified by certified colleges with proper accreditation".#20

" my role as a pastor - which I also do, I counsel in pastoral care. "#20

"I am also a chaplain to our Countries Defence forces, a position I could not have without proper qualifications". #20

🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

It doesn't end there either dose it , Reverend "Tradey"?   Did I not mention your years of travel around the globe,  your lawyers practice, time in court defending clients, running the family farm, bringing up a family?

"By the time I had reached 17 I decided for myself that religion and God was nothing more than a story - perhaps invented to enslave the masses. I passed through various stages of political theories such as socialism, anarchy, and communism. I used various substances and I experimented sexually in a variety of ways. I attended uni, studied law, economics, psychology, and chemistry. In other words, I did what lots of other people have done throughout history. I played about with mysticism, and spirituality - got into dungeons and dragons, Ouija boards, and seances. traveled the world, met lots of so called spiritual people in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Tibet, Mexico and Lesotho". https://www.debateart.com/forum/topics/332-so-you-just-chose-your-religion?page=2&post_number=50

And you have the fkn nerve to say this about atheists!:

Most atheists I know are impractical and airhead.  Many end up in prison, for theft and sex related crimes, mostly kiddie crime. Many commit suicide and or are on drugs and alcohol. Not too many get married, or if they do - are on to their 4 or 4th marriage. Many are gay or lesbian. #33

#32 And Atheism is one of the most arrogant positions I have come across - it is not dissimilar to the Leftwing progressive position.

You obviously lie -

I have nothing at all to lie about Reverend "Tradey".  And neither have you, but you do,  and often, you can't stop. I honestly believe you are ill.

Take up thine bed and walk...... and get well soon.

Do you  accept the King James Version Dictionary definition which defines the word _ perfect _ when used in the Bible as ;

PER'FECTadjective [Latin perfectus, perficio, to complete; per and facio, to do or make through, to carry to the end.]
1. Finished; complete; consummate; not defective; having all that is requisite to its nature and kind; as a perfect statue; a perfect likeness; a perfect work; a perfect system.
As full, as perfect in a hair as heart.
2. Fully informed; completely skilled; as men perfect in the use of arms; perfect in discipline.
3. Complete in moral excellencies.
I don't trust you.
I don't care about your personal insecurities or paranoia, Reverend "Tradey".

You turned it into a fkn song and dance from the moment I asked it, Here>>#24  instead of answering you replied  with 14 !!!! fkn questions of your own HERE>>#26 and is all you have done since is evade, swerve stutter, stumble and play your own cretinous games and shown  yourself to be  the contradictory clown of double standards that you are..

As far as I am concerned you haven't answered the question and have clocked up yet another failure.

and let me remind you again, Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures, REVEREND "Tradey". Matthew 22: 29:

You see, King James Version own Dictionary definition which defines the word -perfect as shown above also shows you once AGAIN to be in error and exposes your complete and utter lack of Bible knowledge HERE>> #89  :

although you just cannot stop telling us how Bible savvy you are,

"I have been taught to memorise the bible since a very early age. I have read the bible numerous times. I try and read the OT once every year and the NT twice a year.  I know it reasonable well and can even read Hebrew and Greek "#52

But you must have believed that claim on its own wasn't enough to impress us all with so threw in this pile of bullshite for good measure:

"I  know the bible backwards - and frontwards - in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic ".

My, look at that. you added "Aramaic"  that time!

Well  now anyone reading here knows by now that both of your above claims are nothing but the purest of sparkling gold plated bullshite.

You will never be a honest person , Reverend "Tradey", no matter how many  qualifications, accreditations and titles  you have awarded yourself. The hole that you have dug for yourself is just too deep.....

Do you  accepted the King James Version Dictionary definition which defines the word _ perfect _ when used in the Bible as ;

And as per usual, you provide us with a wikapedia source.  Ok.  I can see that is about the extent of your source

Yes Wikipedia, the same Wikipedia that you bemoan and decry when anyone else uses it as a reference source.  HERE>> #182

Let me tell you Reverend. I learned about this hypothesis when I was still at school, and decades before Wikipedia was even dreamed of .

AND ONLY NOW do you say that you knew about this "theory" so what were your sources. Lets see them and be sure they predate Wikipedia.

Even your wikapedia reference indicates that mainstream scholars find it highly unlikely.

Who knows,? Its a hypothesis , you bible dunce. It also shows where this particular hypothesis originated too.

Now lets us see your sources pre Wikipedia?

I notice once again you fail to produce such a source.

You asked for a source. I gave you a source, did you miss it?

HERE YOU GO>.#23

Seriously!?  After all of your years of studying ancient Greek and Hebrew manuscripts and translating them into English, you are telling us that you had never , ever come across this hypothesis?

Tiberius Julius Abdes Pantera (/pænˈtɛrə/; c. 22 BC – AD 40) was a Roman-Phoenician soldier born in Sidon, whose tombstone was found in BingerbrückGermany, in 1859. A historical connection from this soldier to Jesus has long been hypothesized by numerous scholars, based on the claim of the ancient Greek philosopher Celsus, who, according to Christian writer Origen in his "Against Celsus" (Greek Κατὰ Κέλσου, Kata KelsouLatin Contra Celsum), was the author of a work entitled The True Word (Greek Λόγος Ἀληθής, Logos Alēthēs).
Celsus' work was lost, but in Origen's account of it Jesus was depicted as the result of an affair between his mother Mary and a Roman soldier. He said she was "convicted of adultery and had a child by a certain soldier named Pantera".[1][2] According to James Tabor, Tiberius Pantera could have been serving in the region at the time of Jesus's conception.[1] Both the ancient Talmud and medieval Jewish writings and sayings reinforced this notion, referring to "Yeshu ben Pantera", which translates as "Jesus, son of Pantera". Tabor's hypothesis is considered highly unlikely by mainstream scholars given that there is little other evidence to support Pantera's paternity outside of the Greek and Jewish texts.[3][4]
Historically, the name Pantera is not unusual and was in use among Roman soldiers.[3][5]

I studied and was tutored by academics, scholars, and priests and fathers from the Orthodox Church".
"I  know the bible backwards - and frontwards - in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic ",
"I have been taught to memorise since a very early age"

My arse. Stop telling fk lies. Or simply tell your other persona to stop telling lies in your name and on your behalf.

Did you miss the brilliant  2 minute Python sketch from 1979 that ACTUALLY alludes to the  bastard son Jesus who's father was a Roman hypothesis?

Another,  he is himself educated in Greek that also makes the claim that for one to understand the NT Bible in English one has have been schooled in the Greek language while also telling us that:

“no one takes the Bible as“100% accurate”.

And have made comments such as :

"I would have translated the Greek words differently before putting them in the bible so as not to confuse people like you. You see the Greek language is highly contextual".

So when we consider that both the above mentioned - the High Priest & Bringerofrain  are qualified in the field of scripture and ancient Greek language, does not their learned and experienced opinion seriously damage the reliability and the credibility of this so called holy scripture?

And what level of credibility were they given by the church in the early church?

Irrelevant, Reverend.
And it appears once again that all of your years spent kneeling at the feet of those academics has been totally wasted on you.

Tradesecret wrote: "I studied and was tutored by academics, scholars, and priests and fathers from the Orthodox Church".

Why does only one mention his 12 year old trip to Jerusalem?

Ah yes. An absolute wonderful story of how the BOTH parents to  none other than the son of god managed to lose their holy charge - a gift from god himself -  for three days!? They didn't even notice that this immaculately conceived child was missing  until after traveling a WHOLE DAY before they even realised he was missing.!

I never said I did not know about this theory.

Behave yourself Reverend. You didn't have a clue.  If you had you would have simply attempted to debunk  it instead of asking for  my "sources".

Interesting that Monty Python's Life Of Brian actually alluded to the - Jesus as “a bastard son of an adulteress” describing Jesus as “ben Pantera” (son of-Pantera)  a Roman centurion hypothesis that I posted about above #18 & detailed here >> #23.

It appears that the " Jesus, bastard son of an adulteress was fathered by a Roman soldier” theory hadn't been missed by these Oxford and Cambridge educated comic greats either.

Relative to the Priesthood I hold, it is not a matter of what I consider. I am an ordained High Priest.

 The same "High Priest" that  is also versed " in Greek"  then brings the "integrity" of the English Bible into doubt with this comment;

" Frankly, I'm shocked the book[bible] managed to have enough integrity left in it when monks and such finished their agenda and still managed to give us an inkling of truth"#79

So when we have figures of such high status telling us that they are "shocked" that there is any remaining integrity at all in the Bible and only just enough to leave only an "inkling" of truth, does this not add to the pointlessness of the ancient scriptures written in English?

I asked you to define the word perfect when the word is used in the bible.

You say  "only god can be perfect" yet the bible says different, and this is why you were afraid to commit yourself to a definition  because; as  Jesus once said,
“You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures", Reverend "Tradey".

King James Version's  own Dictionary   definition of the word - perfect. Your favourite bible according to you.

But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.2 Chronicles 15:17

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.Genesis 6:9
