I was talking about JoeBob's role. "The next day, votes may only be cast for me and that dude I wanna challenge." If he challenges Barney and Barney is town, then we can only lynch one of those two town players.

Seems too harsh.
This opinion seems to be based on an arbitrary sense of what seems harsh, and you just criticized arbitrary cutoffs. I'm having trouble following your logic.
If there was a 10% chance that I would die to save a kid’s life (assuming I knew those odds in advance), then I would not take that chance. Everyone that saves someone from drowning believes they don’t have any significant chance of dying from saving another person.
That's not exactly the original scenario you presented, but would 10% would be an acceptable cutoff in your view? Again, you seem to be using arbitrary cutoffs after previously implying that arbitrary cutoffs are bad.

Because letting the child starve to death is letting die whereas killing the zygote is killing.
In the original case, you said "prevent one zygote from dying from abortion," so I assumed someone else is getting the abortion and I just have the option of stopping them. If I'm the one getting the abortion in this scenario, then yes, direct killing is more unjustifiable.

I was going to say it doesn't make sense to ask one person for a full claim until we get characters from multiple people, but then I realized knowing characters tells us the role too. There's still the risk that Barney has an important role, but I don't have a better plan, so I guess I'm fine asking him for a full claim or at least something to narrow down his role.

Starvation is a more painful way to go, but the zygote may have a few more years to live. But then I have to account for the possibility of a miscarriage and infant mortality, and both of those mean it's probably better to save the child from dying from starvation.

You also run into the same issue with the canoe, since you're necessarily going to be saying "Dad can't shove the kid out of the canoe unless there is at least an X% chance of the kid killing the dad."

One issue that I see with virtue ethics is that it's circular. According to virtue ethics, good actions are based on what a good person would do. But that's kind of putting the cart before the horse, because you can only judge whether someone is good or bad based on what actions they take.
