@PREZ-HILTON
We just need to draw in people who can counter their narratives. Trust me, you don't want these people off the site and I forums where they hear no alternative philosophies, it's dangerous. For every Ted Kazynski on the site, their should be a ray kurzweil. For every David Duke there should be a Jordan Peterson to show them they are wrong.
Correct.
The big industries think the solution to extremism is censorship. But all gatekeeping does is remove the person and create a power vacuum that will eventually be replaced by someone worse. It doesn't actually get rid of the ideology.

I guess it's just that the idea of debate is such a fiercely competitive environment. (Not that women can't be interested in competition, but it generally tends to appeal more to men.)

I apologize for all these chickens refusing to show up to the debate. Feel free to penalize them as you wish.
At least me and my opponent will make it to the Tournament. Here is our debate.:

Wassup, Novice.
Let’s settle this over a debate.
Generally, I’m against noob-sniping, but I’ll make an exception by having you as my target.
Pick 3 Resolution titles and which side you’d like to be.
Waste my time and you’ll regret it after losing all your Elo.

You were the only one that expressed interest, so I updated the description. Those examples alone won't be sufficient enough for me to win the debate and the BOP will require me to submit more evidence.
Debate gets deleted soon if no one accepts because of the upcoming tournament and the limits on debates at a time.

Oromagi, what subjects are you most knowledgeable in?
Was wondering if you’d be down to debate sometime. I can be Pro or Con.

The two that interest me are.:
- The Value of Positive Nihilism.
- Do the benefits of psychedelic drugs outweigh the risks.
I'm taking a break from #2, as I'm burnt-out from the discussion of drugs, but the first option is very fascinating.
Tomorrow when the drugs debate is over. Let's do it.

@AustinL0926
Nobody knows at what point Barney reached 1700. And inbetween the time he was 1700-1790, the “noobs” he was debating could have had a high rating, which significantly raised his Elo.
His opponents’ current rating is unreliable because it’s not an indicator that their ratings weren’t higher during the time of debating because their rating could’ve tanked from future losses.
So yes, while it is certainly possible to level up to 1800 by relying primarily on noob-sniping, it is difficult and timely. Getting to Novice or Oromagi’s level by relying mostly on noob-snipes requires a god-tier amount of patience and freetime.

@AustinL0926
I agree with the concept of seasons. Honestly, it's kind of annoying to see all the people sitting at 1700+, considering that every single one of them got there only by noobsniping and winning over half their debates by full forfeits. The only exception is whiteflame, who won over 80% of his debates legitimately. I'd like to see a solution that doesn't disadvantage new users too much, while also discouraging excessive noobsniping.
Most of the ratings that get people to 1700 are unearned because of noob-snipes and forfeits.
But any advances at that new starting point are perfectly earned because you earn very minimal elo from any noob-snipes once you reach 1700. That’s when noob-snipes officially plateau.
You’d have to triple the noob-snipes just to consistently increase rating as rapidly as before.

I had two victories over you in the past week.
At the very least, I should be able to claim your Elo.

3) It's also intentional, the idea was that the voting shouldn't be too long or too short for rated debates. Kinda like a way to standardize things.
Limiting the Voting Time may back-fire.
Debaters like RM and Novice may suffer from this. Waiting a month to get votes derails the competition because it slows down the rating, so you never get a good idea of who is currently at the top.
1) I believe there was some logic for the first point but honestly, I can't recall, maybe it's time to revise it. But it's not a bug, it's intentional.
That will sabotage people like Mall and Public-Choice because people they don't want keep accepting their challenges, which restricts their ability to choose if they want to debate certain people under high-stakes circumstances.
- Mall can no longer issue direct challenges to people if they are rated, which sets him up to be noob-sniped by me and Novice.
- Public-Choice can no longer debate pro's like Barney or Oromagi without the risk of a regular person accepting the debate and losing because of Public's advantage.

No worries.
I'm just experimenting, identifying new problems with the changes, and pointing them out.
- You can't name a Contender if you create a Rated Debate.
- The option to challenge someone directly is no longer on their profile.
- Rated Debates don't allow you to choose 1 week, 2 week, or 6 month Voting Times.
There might be more that slipped my eye, but these are the new ones I've noticed.

He keeps aggravating me with his nonsense about how your big vocab can’t beat him because he’s an authority on this subject.

@Melcharaz
Votes on unrated debates are essentially useless.
While I'm sure they can be used to provide insight or advice to one of the debaters, the only real value any votes have are on rated debates.
At the moment, every vote you make is pointless because I don't think there is an option to make rated debates rn.

Which part's insane, specifically?
The cultural beliefs on scamming.

@Stephen
She never once or rarely discussed her paganism. And by her own admission she was a "self made Witch" without a coven. She did once tell me that her "gods" were aliens from another planet which I found interesting but the conversation didn't get any further that.It was probably a case of that any decent conversation with her about her own beliefs was getting in the way of her wish to continually abuse other members, which seemed to be her favourite subject above all.
Berating her would become routine for me if she stayed longer.

The problem is that in Indian culture (and this is seriously true) scamming is actually a part of it, they are one of the only cultures to genuinely go 'you should have seen that coming' when someone gets scammed.If you think I am lying, I would like you to research the rate of scamming being in India vs the rest of the world. As in international scamming organisations tend to run their scams specifically through India because the repercussions there are the most lenient on the entire planet.To learn to cheat in India is to learn how to survive. If you don’t, society will treat you as an imbecile who never grew up. Like the freelance writer.The working principle is this: If you don’t exploit, then you will automatically become the exploited. What happens then is that since everyone is cheating everybody else, all this cheating cancels each other out in the final sum. No one really gains. But it’s something we are habituated and genetically inclined to do, like the way we drive. It’s a mix of nature and culture.Yes, he is American by nationality but there is something to consider about why he felt it was okay and why it is so extremely prevalent. I am aware how extremely controversial what I am saying is and I don't really care.This is not about race but you can brand it that way, I wouldn't say this irl unless around people I really trusted. It is a fundamental part of most Indian cultures (there are different castes and subcultures there) to see those that get fooled as stupid and deserving of it, it surely carries over to how they raise children abroad even as immigrants. It is actually present throughout all of Asia, India is just most prevalent at the frequency of it in terms of how often scams occur there. It is changing in the current generation, there's definitely a growing sensitivity and empathy in the latest generation there but it is still very harsh to the naive.An American person of Indian ethnicity was probably raised with this harshness in mind. I wouldn't be surprised to find plenty other who run scams in US whether social media slave labour Dhar Mann schemes or not. The question is what could have been done differently in schooling or whatever to make this guy get empathy for his victims of scamming earlier, to me that is the crucial thing to answer.
Yooo, that's insane.
