Let the heretics and unbelievers consume each other in their strife.
I think that it is the believers who are "consuming each other in their strife".
You see, you sycophantic clown Atheist all agree, while Christians have continuously disagreed about one Christian doctrine or another.
No Mopac, it is the Christian family that consumes one another in their strife because they continuously struggle to be the right doctrine.
Look how many splits there have been and still are in the christian family.

Why bother correcting you on anything?
No surprises there then.. I said you wouldn't because you couldn't. But I have explained it, you sycophantic clown. Go back and read posts 1 & 7.
Still waiting for you to make a topic about how Jesus was a space alien,
Well the gods do reside above, in the heavens, space, don't they, Mopac? And it is written often that the god/s was often "coming down". Genesis 11:5 John 6:38 Exodus 19:11 Samuel 2:22:10 and many, many more verses professing that the Lord your god " came down"
Where was he "coming down" from? Mopac

That is part of the reason 2,000 years later, we are still talking about it
And another part of the reason is because on the surface the New Testament and the story of The Christ makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
This is why it is one of the most debated, discussed and argued over pieces of literature ever written. It simply boils down to Faith V Fact.

Why did he write what he did and not some other version, maybe where isaac is sacrificed?
I don’t know, start a thread of your own to ask your own questions. Meanwhile, while you have shown no interest in addressing the questions in the op you have offered once more your own conjecture offering your usual “maybe it never happened” - so we will never know - mantra.
I am not interested in your conjecture as someone who, by your own admission, is a fully blown atheist and doesn’t believe anything “written thousands of years ago”. So to offer us your ifs, buts’ and “maybes” I find slightly hypocritical.

@Mopac
I'm at least putting in as much effort as you usually do.
You are, and I sincerely appreciate that you do.
You will notice though that no one yet has explained away the obvious anomaly concerning god, his promise, and his reference to Issac being Abraham's only son when we know he had 9 others.
Keith Prosser has offered his usual conjecture but doesn't believe any of the bible anyway and still managed to ignore the pertinent points I have raised. He chose instead to give us his version of Babylonian history and concentrated instead on the "sacrifice" that didn't happen.
The resident theists have completely ignored the pertinent point of the fact that Abraham couldn't work out for himself that when his god ordered him to kill his "only" son, then this would mean that there wouldn't be any great nation "made of him" and in turn this would mean that his god would have or would have been breaking his godly promise. So yes Abraham was backward.
Maybe the question is too difficult or mores the case to inconveinient for the thesists to face. It is also likely that the theist have never even considered these facts because they have been steered away from such anomalous and awkward verses since childhood while being steered towards the fluffy verses of the New Testament.
When I was at school we hardly ever spoke of anything to do with the Old Testament, except the few "miracles" . Understandable considering that the OT in truth had nothing to do with Christianity except that the NT at times tries desperately to tie in the Old with the New via "prophecies"

Literally Abraham backwards.
The fact that Abraham couldn't workout for himself that when his god ordered him to kill his"only" son, then this would mean that there wouldn't be any "great nation" made of him and in turn this would mean that his god would have or would have been, breaking his godly promise. So yes Abraham Was backward.
This is far too deep for you to even consider simply because you are a fawning religious sycophant who simply cannot face stone cold facts.
If you had read my post on this thread closely , I have explained exactly what and why things happened this way. But you are unable to see it because of you religious bias.
AND: If my opinion of you is wrong , Mopac , then simply address the OP and put me right.

@Castin
God could give Abraham many sons after Isaac, so I don't think there's a whole lot of conflict between "kill your son" and "I will give you a great nation".
You couldn't be more wrong. and you have ignored the fact that god refers to Issac as Abraham's ONLY SON. And unless you understand the matriarchal and patriarchal system and culture from which Abram/ Abraham came from in Ancient Mesopotamia, you don't have a cat in hells chance of explaining this away.
That is why I am waiting for the resident theists to step in and explain it all for us. so far, one - Mopac - has failed and only offered a single Arabic word as some kind of explanation to this complicated tale.
Here is a clue for the absolute clueless.
Isaac prayed for her and she conceived. Rebekah gave birth to twin boys, Esau and Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when his two sons were born. Isaac favored Esau, and Rebekah favored Jacob.

@keithprosser
As usual Keith, you have skirted the issue of the main content and point of the thread.
This was the point why don't you try addressing them:
Are you not going to explain to us all why god calls Isaac Abraham's "only son" when it is common knowledge to anyone who has read the scripture that Abraham has ten, yes TEN!!!! sons? That will be 9 other sons.
Are you not going to explain to us all why Abraham, who it is said was made in the image of god didn't even question to himself the thorny problem of the promise god himself had made to him?
So far no one has been able to offer an explanation to this ambiguous tale.

@ronjs
Jesus was referring to the timespan Jonah spent in the fish, not to the state of his health.
If that is true, then there was absolutely no need to even mention Jonah.
Is all Jesus had to say was " I will be in the tomb for three days". You see Jesus himself doesn't even mention death (or the state of his health) or says that he will be dead in the tomb either does he.
"so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth”

So again Mopac. You are far too embarrassed to even adress this silly story about the Patriarch Abraham.
Are you not going to explain to us all why this story again makes no sense and just paints Abraham in a very dim and poor light?
Are you not going to explain to us all why god calls Isaac Abraham's "only son" when it is common knowledge to anyone who has read the scripture that Abraham has ten, yes TEN!!!! sons? That will be 9 other sons.
Are you not going to explain to us all why Abraham, who it is said was made in the image of god didn't even question to himself the thorny problem of the promise god himself had made to him?

God made a promise to Abraham that he would make of him a "great nation".
And I Will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12: 2
A promise, nice. All well and good.
It was prophesied to the patriarch Abraham that he would have a son and that his name should be Isaac. When Abraham became one hundred years old, this son was born to him by his first wife Sarah. Though this was Abraham's second son it was Sarah's first and only child.
So Sarah is the Matriarch 1st and official wife.
Then this happens.
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain will show you.” Genesis 22
Can anyone see the problem with this stupid story and how stupid and backward Abraham must have been?
The Question here is glaringly obvious and, as is usual with these biblical stories,it is also problematic for the devout theist.
Besides the barbarity of the request Abraham in all his lacking of any type of wisdom, didn’t stop to think never mind ask;
Lord, how are you going to make me a great nation when you have demanded that I kill my son, my only son?
And although the lord himself says that Isaac is Abraham's ONLY son, he isn't, and this is absolute claptrap to the casual reader unless one understands the bibles strict order of ascendency.
We know this god to be a cruel god from the story of Job where this god for a bet, decided to kill Jobs family and livestock and servants and tore down his house, to prove Job's loyalty.
But seriously, Would you sacrifice your only child if god asked you to?

Do you actually believe the population in general understood the concept of a coma say or even unconsciousness? You forget these illiterate people believed that it was god causes volcanoes to erupt and tidal waves to occur simply because the priests told them they had been very naughty? Do you believe this too?
I have no need to respond to your commentary,
And I would not expect anymore from a fawning sycophant such as yourself. I understand that these very basic questions I have added to my post are an embarrassment to you. But they are basic questions that my own children and grandchildren have asked yet you, in the 21st century simply cannot face these awkward questions never mind answer them
I am secure that you expose yourself as perverse,
being curious and wanting answers is not perverse you clown. jesus himself asked over 120 questions himself. How is it that he is not perverse yet I am, according to you.
and I don't believe that my words will lead you to repent.
Not while you fail miserably to adress these simply yet embarrassing questions, I feel I have nothing to repent for. Besides all my sins have been paid for in blood , haven't they? So what have I to worry about. Jesus still wants me for a sunbeam as far as I know. This is what my teachers told me when I was a child.
So it's vain.

We have to wonder why if as it was believed that the “end is nigh” , then what the hell was the point of giving to the poor?
But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
If Jesus had simply healed all crippled, and lame and blind and seen to it that "the poor" were given employment and a fair wage there wouldn't have been any need for charity in the first place.
Better still, god should not have created the crippled and lame and poor and blind people in the first place.

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come;glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Indeed , Jesus also begged his “father" to relieve him of his burden and was totally ignored.
. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me;
Which happen to be a jumbled up mess of contradictions, anomalous verses, meaningless nonsense on the surface and ambiguous half stories.
and they have received them,
And found them to be nonsense. For instance; why didn’t you, Lord simply eradicate all of leprosy instead of curing just a few lepers? And why did you waste a perfectly good miracle on “turning water into wine” when there were thousands of sick and crippled and about at the time, and thousands of women dying in childbirth.
and have known surely that I came out from thee,
Yes well, that's debatable. Ethang5 doesn’t believe they are god inspired words or that they came from god and he should know, shouldn’t he?
and they have believed that thou didst send me.
Not quite every one, that is just a lie and or wishful thinking.

And where do you find this in the biblical narrative?
In the bible, where else.

Not atall. I am questioning the actions of this god in particular and the unreliability of the scripture. It is what I am interested in, it is what I do.
I have questions, lots of them and all raised by these unreliable scriptures.
Why were nations, men women and children ordered to be murdered simply because they had their own god?
This god, your god, is no better than the god of Islam is today who orders all and any who do not believe in him to be butchered. It was then, no different from Islam today. The one thing I can say for the Quran is that it makes no secret of its purpose, its intentions and its penalties for not converting. Whereas the New Testament hides a another story beneath it veneer of peace and love thy neighbour

I would be famous if I went back there by simply introducing a few ideas, like the screw, the viaduct and the lathe.
Well, then you would be seen as god to the literate backward peoples of the time. As were the Lords of Mesopotamia,
The ancient Mesopotamians were the first known to use many things we now consider essential. Here are just a few examples:
- Writing: The Sumerians developed one of the earliest writing systems in about 3,200 B.C. Although writing began as pictures, it quickly developed into a series of signs comprised of wedges and called “cuneiform” after the Latin word for wedge. Cuneiform was written using a reed or wooden stylus pressed onto the surface of a clay tablet. The earliest tablets are administrative records. However, cuneiform was soon used to record literary texts, such as the “Epic of Gilgamesh,” as well as for writings on other topics such as mathematics, astronomy, and medicine. Writing greatly facilitated the accumulation and transmission of knowledge between distant peoples and generations.
- Mathematics: Symbols for numbers were among the signs on the earliest written documents. The Mesopotamians were sophisticated mathematicians and were the first to develop the idea of place value based on a number’s position in a sequence.
- Time: The Mesopotamians were the first to divide time units into 60 parts. This concept lead to our 60-second minute and 60-minute hour.
- Urban civilization: One of the world’s earliest cities was Uruk, which by the year 3,000 B.C. had an estimated population of 50,000. People living in cities developed specialized trades, such as metalsmithing and such professions as scribes.
- The wheel: The ancient Mesopotamians were using the wheel by about 3,500 B.C. They used the potter’s wheel to throw pots and wheels on carts to transport both people and goods. This invention had an impact on ceramic technology, trade, and warfare in the early city-states.
- The sail: The Mesopotamians made sails to harness the wind to move boats, and eventually sailed and traded as far away as what is now India.
- Astronomy and astrology: From a very early time, the Mesopotamians had charted the movements across the sky of the sun, moon, planets and stars. They were able to predict celestial events, such as eclipses, using that knowledge. They also divided the night sky into 12 sections and named them for nearby constellations, the names of which come down to us through Greek and later Latin translations as the Zodiac.
There is an interesting display of Ancient Mesopotamian (Sumerian) artifacts in the Ashmolean Museum with an essay that states:
"many firsts" appeared so sudden in ancient Mesopotamia it was as if they had simply dropped here from another planet"
Indeed!

Take for example Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” We need only to look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement to know He was claiming to be God.
No we don’t. This Could simply mean “we are in agreement” and or compatible.
“You, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). The Jews understood exactly what Jesus was claiming—deity.
Wrong. What "the Jews understood" was that it was dangerous to them for any Jew to call themselves “Messiah”and “King”
. When Jesus declared,“I and the Father are one,” He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and essence. John 8:58 is another example.
Wrong. Explained Above.

It is tricky that one Wylted. As I have found out for myself.

I had the audacity to ask someone if they were “stupid” and I also had the cold never to ask someone if they were “backward”. I simply cannot imagine the permanent irreparable and psychological damage I must have caused, but I was warned via PM . But I have found in life that someone who acts or performs in a stupid manner are usually called stupid and or backward. I suppose we have so many stupid people and backward people using the internet that it were only a matter of time before word censoring became part and parcel. It is hard not to offend anyone these days.
I was told that these words “ constitute personal attacks”.
I was also warned against warning someone that I would report them if they insisted on disruptive behaviour on my thread?
Actually the words used in the warning was
“ threatening to report someone” Threatening!!!!!!??????
To which was added that it
“is entirely unacceptable and viewed extremely unfavourably by moderation”.
So to give someone a friendly warning that you will report them is taboo also.

And the scriptures make it very clear that Jonah was alive and praying inside this fish. LOOK>>>>>>From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me..<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< you see ALIVE!!! JONAH WAS ALIVE!!!!!!!

You have not shown that Jews were chosen because of race.
Israelites are of Israel, you clown. This made them a race .
Jews or the word "Jew" is quite unlike the word "Christian" because it has a unique quality of defining a national Identity. Christianity in contrast is neither cultural or racial. Judaism has evolved by way of firm attachment and inherent birthright which although seemingly has its roots in Canaan has it's patriarchal origin in Mesopotamia.
So as much as you try to deny these racial verses from your gos, they are there to be observed in all their racial glory.
You make the mistake of many who failed to research the origins of this "religion".
Oh, and there is no mention of Christians in the Old Testament, nor Jesus the Christ.

it has to do directly with God. and with death.
I agree that is according to the bible. God makes that quite plain why we die. He altered our lifespan because he got fed up of HIS creation.
“Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years." That of course is if you believe the bible.
But this is more than debatable as three quarters of the world’s population do not reach past 60 years.
And of course there is the scientific evidence that says why we die.
It is the oxygen we inhale that has an effect on our telomeres.Oxygen has a decaying effect on human telomeres . Some humans have longer telomeres than others which give them a longer life span. The people on my father’s side have had short life spans of around 50 -65. On My mother’s side they seems to be long livers reaching well into their 80's’ 90’s.

Well how about this? Stephen Hawking is dead. And we are still debating the existence of God. I guess that means God = 1 and Hawking = dead.
And man and his sciences will be discussing and debating Stephen Hawking's work till the end of time.
For the record, why do we need to die?
Nothing to do with the thread really is it. Stop trying to divert. I am sick you doing this. Start a thread of the question and question your own god on the subject. I am sure I can find a reason given by your own god!!!
Here in case you purposely missed it is the op from stronn:
There is no God -- that's the conclusion of the celebrated physicist Stephen Hawking, whose final book is published Tuesday. The book, which was completed by his family after his death, presents answers to the questions that Hawking said he received most during his time on Earth.

Aliens. Aliens did it. Only explanation.
Stop derailing my thread with your rubbish!!
I'd say he was likely in worse condition than the others being crucified.
It is not mentioned if or not the others were scourged , but I think we can safely say they were considering they had take part in a rebellion against Rome, you clown.
Stephen wrote: Why did they spear his side if he was dead?
mopac responded: Why not? He was dead.
Then why? There was no need, he was pronounced dead. Tell me the explanation for the spearing after "death". Were the other two also speared?
Off the top of my head, him talking about destroying the temple and rebuilding it in 3 days.
Nothing to do with what I have asked.
Read the question again you clown; "Did Jesus even predict that he would be dead for three days?"
Also, him referencing the "sign of Jonah", that as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for 3 days so must he be in the earth for 3 days and rise again on the 3rd day. Oh you mentioned that one at least.
I did, and especially for clowns like yourself and for a very good reason. I also said :
"you should read that closely, because it mentions nothing about death at all".
So you have obviously not gone back and read the story of Jonah, like I advised, have you? That is because you have been brought up to be a self righteous clown who doesn't understand his own scriptures.
Look >>> "“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< SEE NOTHING THERE AT ALL ABOUT JONAH BEING DEAD, IS THERE?

So listen carefully,
Just like Jesus wasn't dead when they took him down and placed him in a PRIVATE tomb owned by yet another of his rich friends, neither was Jonah when he was said to be in the belly of a fish.

Don't get me wrong, christian. I have read and believe many (not all) of the violent actions of the god you call Jehovah/You'll see the jealousy of God. The wrath of God. It's called a reality check.
Yahweh. I don't need a "reality check".. The god you hold in your heart is the most violent of all of the gods. There is very little compassion or love where this god (the one that you have been worshiping) is concerned, in fact there isn't any for any other nation or peoples. This is why I have to believe that Christians have been worshipping the wrong god for over 2,000 years.
The only "love" that is mentioned by this particular god is the love for his "chosen people", IS_RA_EL.
It is you who is probably in need of a reality check.

God's anger and jealousy is not like its human counter part. Why would one assume it was?
Let's have a comparison between the anger and jealousy of a human compared to that of a god. We will see if your statement stands up or are you just pissing in the wind.. again and making things up?
We were created in the images of the Gods so this shouldn't make any difference. It seems we can love and hate and be jealous and racist just like this god admits to being.

Why are you asking me? And who said you should accept anything concerning the bible. Jayen asked about "god" and :Why should we accept the bible as an accurate description of some god(s) character?
@janesix wrote: Can God get angry or jealous, etc?
I have simply given what the bible says on the matter. She and you, can take it or leave it.
