Does it matter whether Jordan Peterson is a Christian or not? He recently had discord with a group of young, liberal atheists, and they sought to find fault with Peterson's ambiguity. It seems to me that he is an agnostic with Christian leanings. I thought Peterson made some very insightful points. Would you, if you are Christian, stake your life on God and His existence? If the answer is “no”, you cannot call yourself a Christian. One of the incredible things about religious belief is the fanaticism and willingness to sacrifice yourself for God. How can God exist when you aren't willing to give your life for Him?

This assumes God views the practice of slavery as evil. What passage supports this?
He encourages fair treatment of slaves, who had been around for a very long time. God hates sin, yet he allows us to do it (although, there are consequences). Slavery appears to be a similar matter. Its mere existence does not tell us that God wants it.
This is the etymological fallacy -- the idea words can be reduced to their etymology. I am using the common understanding of "condone" -- "accept and allow to continue." The words "you may" from God meet that definition.
You can call it that if you wish. I, for one, believe words matter. Words did not suddenly come to be. The languages they originate from, and are still used in, are important. It is not your understanding of the word that matters; it is the word according to its true definition. The English dictionaries, due to modern-day use of many words, are often wrong in their definitions.
Again, where does the Bible say slavery is a sin? And if it's a sin, why are you arguing it was beneficial to the slave?
It is accompanied by a set of behaviors that can be sinful. God would like us to give, not to take.
And are you really making the argument that God lacked the power to overturn common social practice?
God is not a dictator.
Cutting off the end of your penis wasn't too big of an ask, but "stop owning people" was?
Slavery was widespread. He asked the Hebrews to circumcise the infant males. It is a different matter.
Many of God's commands in the Bible are hard to follow and against the currents of common practice. Who can easily love their enemies? How many would really turn the other cheek if struck? Who would give their coat to someone who sued the shirt off their backs? Is it so easy to not covet your neighbor's things? Yet you're making the argument that God wrung his hands and said, "Oh well, they're just so gosh-darned determined to own people, what can I do? I guess I'll just bend my rules to their preferences..." No. This is not God's character in the Bible.
We can all do these things, if we decide to in our hearts. A man can stop owning slaves or participating in the ownership of slaves, and he can love his enemy.
Turning the other cheek is a very good message. Resisting the most base of instincts is quite revolutionary, and certainly good for the soul.
God also never intended us to murder, steal, and cheat. Yet we fell from the garden, and we began to do those things, and he told us it was wrong. But not slavery. Slavery he told us we could continue, if we practiced it with ethnocentric favoritism.
Slavery, as said above, can be accompanied by sin. God did not say we could continue to enslave; he commanded that there are rules the Hebrew must follow, and it does not say God would prefer slavery to exist than not. God gave us free will. What does this tell you?

Let them all do it. If chromosomes are the reason why they can't, then your religion is sexist and you should own that.
“Sexist” is a new word, and not one I pay mind to. Most of the words invented in the 20th century are trash. Sexist was invented by a feminist. Do you listen to feminists?
Yes, but the reason why I'm pro whipping is completely independent of the flammable Quran; I just don't want to spend tax money taking care of prisoners, so whippings is a good substitute.
Tax money is always being spent. What would happen? The criminal gets lashed and then sent on their way?
Are you saying your all loving and all powerful god decided that a pedo priest's free will is more important than the safety of the children he's raped? If so, then you are a NAMBLA supporter. If not, then you admit your god is fucked in the head. Which is it? Is this really the hill you want to die on?
Not his free will, our free will.
It is a blessing and a curse. It is not God's fault that the priest has become another victim of Satan.
Do you not want free will?
Become an atheist. It's more moral than Christainity; that's for sure.
Impossible.

I think whiteflame is fine. I believe in a fair, accommodating, and sensible approach to moderation of websites. He appears to be the most intelligent mod, and possibly most intelligent active user here. I do not know why a certain few are asking for stricter moderation. What can priests do that nuns can't (or vice versa)?
I have explained. Example: nuns cannot celebrate Mass. Only priests and bishops can celebrate Mass. Nuns cannot perform the sacraments.
How do you go 9 days without eating?
Water. Others have been known to survive for longer, if they have water.
If a religion administers prison time, then you are living in a theocracy (and theocracy is bad).
Yet, you think whipping is a good punishment.
So then (if she wants to be religious still), then she is going to need to repent. What does it mean to repent? Once a woman got an abortion, she will never be able to undo that.
You can (and should) ultimately say that if a woman has an abortion, if men do gay sex, then they aren't allowed in the church and should become atheists (as well as a lot of other sins) without the ability to ever repent and have this be sort of precedent for all future sins that would be against the bible. Advocating something vague like repentance is wishy washy and nobody likes wishy washy.
You like to be contrary.
They are only beyond redemption if they refuse to repent and seek God. Any sin can be forgiven if the desire for forgiveness and belief in God is true, which is why God is not evil. He may have conceived evil, but he wants us to choose good. By not conceiving evil and allowing Satan to choose the path he did, God would be denying us free will. He has always given us a choice. That there are consequences does not mean there is no choice.

You seem to think God engaged in carnal relations with Mary. Why?
God can make anything happen.
So pregnancy out of wedlock was not frowned upon back in the day?
They were betrothed. St. Joseph was a righteous man who was Jesus' earthly father, and seen as such. He and Mary married after the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, before Jesus was born.

If the world is one nation (which I support happening), then who is doing the invading? It's like Ohio building a military because they're worried Michigan would take the Toledo strip.
It isn't one nation, and never will be.
But, who would invade the US? China? If China won't invade Mongolia, then how could they invade America?
Any country could if you no longer have a military. Maybe Britain will want you again?
Mexico? Canada? Russia? Russia may do it to stop you from ever being able to meddle in Ukraine again. Israel? They need US to have a military, which is why they may invade.

How does he lead them?
How do you think?
Well, if the pope is a heretic, then why would god select him to be the pope?
Why did God let Satan tempt Adam and Eve?
Get ordained (what does that mean?)
Priests may also devote time to charity. Nuns are more likely to be involved in charitable work and education, although priests will visit Catholic schools in their diocese. The duty of a priest is primarily to provide pastoral care and perform the sacraments. My priest celebrates Mass five times a week, hears confession once a week, and is there for those who need him to provide spiritual guidance at any time of the week. He told me of the pilgrimages he has embarked on over the years too.
What is the duration and intensity of these policies? Do you believe the punishment for abortion should be voluntary starvation, nursing roleplay, frioslomber, frioshowers (which many people do voluntarily), and long distance runs?
I don't know. I have fasted for nine days on two separate occasions, and for seven days on another two occasions. In fact, I have done every one of these. They are quite mild punishments. The punishment for a woman who has murdered her baby should, I think, be more severe. Prison time? She need not give consent to this. In the end, if she fails to repent and embrace Christ, it will be Hell.

Why would I say that?
You say the state is wasting money when they are put in prison. What is the alternative? Your 50 lashes? The Islamic countries that administer lashes include time in prison.
Because soldiers and the military put young men to death.
It is the government who puts them to death, and there are times you have gained from this. When conscription is not mandatory, it is the choice of the soldier.
I am afraid your nation would be invaded if you had no military. The world is not a benevolent place.

Therefore, he is God's messenger that implements Christain political views as time goes on. Otherwise, what's the point of a pope?
He is leader of the Catholic Church, who may influence, but no longer has a hand in implementing views in matters of politics. “His point” is that he preserves thousands of years of tradition and leads the many Catholics of the world.
I know, and they are heretics.
They say Pope Francis was the heretic. His casual approach to the papacy was frowned upon. Pope Francis said the priests can now bless homosexual couples. This is heretical and very controversial. A homosexual couple are living in sin, and should receive no blessing. I believe they should only be blessed if they are abstaining from the homosexual lifestyle, despite their urge to participate in it. Participating in it means they have betrayed the word of God, are not listening to God, and are willfully continuing to sin. How can we bless this mess?
They should be able too. What are the differences between a priest and a nun (other than gender)?
Sex is the correct word to use.
Priests are ordained and oversee pastoral care, perform sacraments, and provide religious instruction. A nun may pray as much as a priest. They are expected to pray and spend considerable time in contemplation. Nuns may also be involved in education and charitable work. If we consider the history, the Church believes it has no authority to allow priestly ordination of women. Jesus' disciples were male. St. Peter was male. It is logical for there to only be male priests.
What are the specifics of the bolded part?
It would be voluntary penance. They would not return to the Church if they did not feel immense guilt and shame, and were not willing to do penance. Doing penance is good for us all. They could fast for long periods, help the sick and the needy, sleep on a cold, hard floor, have cold showers and baths, go running until they can no longer stand, and so on.

If they do, then that's heresy. How DARE they challenge God's messenger!
He is not God's messenger; the pope is not divine. He is successor to St. Peter, Bishop of Rome, and head of the Catholic Church.
A number of figures within the Church were opposed to Pope Francis: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/oct/27/the-war-against-pope-francis
But can nuns become priests? No; there is the sexism (which is fine if you own it; I'm a sexist with who I date; I don't date men). But they're cowards about their sexism. That's the issue.
Can priests become nuns?
Cowards relent. The Catholic Church has not relented. “Cowards” are the Protestants who have forsaken God and betrayed the Faith.
Same reason why a Muslim can support someone who doesn't pray 5x a day. Your religion doesn't restrict me; it restricts you. I think anyone that has had an abortion should leave the Catholic Church; I want there to be more atheists in the world via people leaving religion.
Yes, the female murderers of children who get themselves pregnant and then destroy the life they chose to create should leave, and never return unless they do a long and grueling penance.

They don't like thinking; they let the pope do their ideological thinking and they blindly accept it without question even if the pope contradicts himself or is hypocritical (selling all you have and giving to the poor while sitting on a golden throne for example).
This is wrong. The priests, bishops, and cardinals can disagree with the pope. A number of cardinals opposed Pope Francis in some areas. He was a controversial figure.
The pope doesn't prosecute the r@pe that happens in the church. Could you imagine if 4% of a private school's teachers r@ped kids? They would be out of business. The Catholic Church gets away with it and the Catholics don't consider it a deal breaker
What do you know about pedophilia in the Catholic Church? I ask a sincere question.
If you call a Catholic a sexist, then they will deny it while they don't let women become priests.
A woman can become a nun if she is devoted to God and wants a role in the Catholic Church. Nuns do important work.
If a Catholic likes Biden and I say Biden has dementia, they say it's false, and I then say he has cognitive decline, then they accuse me of moving the goalposts. Homie; you knew what I was talking about. Don't act dumb. Biden isn't going to take the SAT anytime soon. He shouldn't have been there. Does he randomise their soul and brain partly or predestine all of it?
“Random” isn't a good word to use. In Old French, it means rush, speed, and force. It began to be used in the 14th century in Middle English.
There are only two entities that influence what we do; God, and Satan. The bad comes from the influence of Satan. God made us into beings who are capable of deep thought and reverence for Him. God was with us before Satan; He made us. How can something be random if we always follow God, which He tells us to do? To say it is random is to suggest there is no God, or to suggest that Satan is interfering with us.
God does predestine, but he does not damn to Hell without granting the chance of salvation through Christ. He can know what we are going to do, and we can still have the choice to change what we do.

They are not official RCC saints but eastern rites tend to say they are.We believe they got redeemed over time. Remember Adam is said to live to over 900, that is a huge amount of time to get redeemed. We do not definitely canonise them as saints how Eastern Orthodox do.

Why do you think God is random? This is something you have conceived in your own head. It has nothing to do with Catholicism.
God does not damn anyone to Hell, unless there is “a willful turning away from God” and “persistence in it until the end.”
Adam and Eve were not persistent in it until the end. God did punish man, but it is believed they were redeemed. Adam and Eve are venerated as saints in the Catholic Church. At no point have I said that man is forsaken by God or damned by God. You, on the other hand, believe God to be random. How can you accuse others of heresy when this is your belief?

Catholics literally reject the idea God damns or predestines sin. It is in our Catechism. Your boyfriend is the heretic.
How is he a heretic? What has he said on this matter? I have not yet shared it with you.
God's omniscience is different from damnation that one cannot escape. There is something wrong if you reject that God knows the past, present, and future. Catholics believe that God is all-knowing. It seems you believe that He is not.
God intended man to have free will, and part of having free will is that Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Then, they came to know evil. God told them not to, but was acutely aware of Satan's evil and the possibility that Adam and Eve may eat from it. He still offers salvation. It is up to us whether we choose it. Catholics believe in Hell. God does not grant salvation to all of us, yet will still give us a chance of redemption. None of this means he is not omniscient. I believe God knows whether I will get run over today or not. I have free will; it is my responsibility to either increase or lessen my chances of being run over. God still knows.

The Book of Isaiah says: “Remember the former things long past, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like me, declaring the end from the beginning. And from ancient times things which have not been done, saying ‘my purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all my good pleasure.”
God is omniscient. The Catholics know this. They believe God knew the human would sin.
Pope John Paul II said: “Heresy is the obstinate denial or doubt after the reception of baptism of some truth which is to be believed by divine and Catholic faith.”
I am not sure you have spoken much with your Catholic boyfriend/husband.
I will speak with him about this particular matter after Mass. His family is Catholic; thus, he has always been Catholic. He can speak Latin. He may not be your kind of Catholic, as he is an ardent supporter of the Crusades. The Reconquista, and crusades in Europe and Middle East, are seen as great feats by him. For Christianity, they were. Of course, it is unfortunate they did not keep the parts of the Middle East, including the Holy Land, they had gained.
He also believes divorced couples should not be given Eucharist, is strongly against homosexuality (he believes it to be abhorrent), and has great respect for the priests. Although he felt Pope Francis was too liberal, and criticized him, he was still saddened by the death of a pope.
Considering he has been Catholic for 45 years and had devout Catholic parents, I will assume he knows more on what I have said.

A “furry” is something that many of the respectable do not know the meaning of. You are a man who wants to penetrate animals, whom you cannot procreate with, and this is why you fixate on the pagan gods who had animal features.
I told you the reason Anubis had a jackal head, yet you ignore. Understand that the reason was not because the male pagans wanted to put it in him. It was spiritual. That said, all the pagans were confused and led astray by evil. The Greeks worshipped gods obsessed with sex and consumed with jealousy. It is not important to the ordinary man. The furries are not important to the intelligent man.
Humans are animals. Generally when they pretend to be another species I find that less attractive and more cringe the farther they take it.
Humans are the second-highest creation. They have sex with other humans; they produce offspring with other humans.
I disagree with all types of promiscuity. I assume you would not want to marry the animal you desire? They are numerous animals that you do not intend to settle down with? It is a deviant behavior, worse than other deviant behaviors (apart from pedophilia), yet still driven by lust and sex to the same degree.
and Adam choose to turn them down as companions, look how that turned out :)
Satan would have tempted Adam with or without Eve. Her silliness made it happen sooner, but the human was meant to fall prey to Satan.

I think Egyptians thought this way, and their ancestors thought that way, and their ancestors all the way back to homo erectus.
They were gods, not humans. Do you think the Egyptians went around thinking their fellow man was a jackal?
It seems your dislike of the Church is due to your sexual preoccupation with animals. Is that why you care more for the pagan than the Christian? Is a human more attractive to you when they pretend to be an animal?
In other words, it's natural and endemic to the species. The archeological record permits not other interpretation (save for a primordial culture so powerful it is present in all samples).
Animals live alongside us. God chose to make the animal too. Are they intended to be gods or our lovers? They are not. We are also not meant to pretend we are them.

Anubis was an Egyptian god. The reason he had a jackal head is that jackals scavenged the dead. The pagans did have gods with animal heads or animal figures. What of it? Do you think the Egyptians dressed this way? Anubis had a symbolic meaning. I suppose you are confusing symbolism with reality, and a modern-day phenomenon appearing to occur among the ordinary folk of present societies, influenced by science fiction and fantasy culture.

Humans have always been doing this. It's call animism when it's in history.
The idea of animism has only been around since the 19th century. This isn't a long history.
One species out of thousands, it takes a special kind of mindset to think you're unique in every way. You abstract qualities, pick a species which you think aligns with an abstraction axis, and now you have "the spirit of the wolf" or such.
Animals do not care about the abstract. Their concern is living and dying.
Give oral tradition and priesthood some latitude and pretty soon the animal spirits are gods with animal heads and bodies.
This sounds like a fantasy of yours.
At the same time people identify with the abstract qualities and because of cultural binding identify with the animal.
Beyond wanting to stay alive and caring for the offspring, few of us identify with the animal. This does not mean animals are inferior. I am a vegetarian. I suppose it does not mean much, as the vegans say it still harms animals. They are still used for dairy. I have only consumed meat once, when my paternal grandmother fed it to me when I was four.
