Recently, there was a statement made that, had it been made outside of a mafia game, could have possibly warranted moderator action. In light of this, there is one issue that I feel deserves attention.

Should the COC apply to mafia games? If so, then to what degree? Should the whole COC apply, or just certain portions?

What do you guys think?

In short, for about a week, there will be a few questions open for the community to vote on.
Voting for this poll will be closed at 12 AM PT (UTC -7) on June 19, 2020.
Even though this is a non-binding un-official MEEP, it is sanctioned by the mods and the results could influence moderation policies and the implementation of future site features.

About MEEP:
As seen in the moderation overview

The Questions:
Below is an enumerated list of the content to be voted on. A brief explanation of each question is included as well.

1. Do you agree or disagree with the removal of the following clause in the new COC (the full document can be found here):

Subsection B1: The Chief and Deputy Moderators and Site Owner
  1. Conduct violations against the Chief Moderator, Deputy Moderator, and the Site Owner will not be enforced, barring certain exceptions
  2. Exceptions to PA.A1.SB.SbB1.PI are limited to:
    1. Plausible, repeated, or serious threats
    2. Hacking or attempted hacking
    3. Staff Impersonation
    4. Doxxing or attempted doxxing
    5. Life- or health-threatening cyberbullying
    6. Violating the privacy of PMs not related to issues of moderation
  • "Yes" indicates agreement with the removal of the above clause in the new COC.
  • "No" indicates disagreement with the removal of the above clause in the new COC.
2.  Are you for or against mods being allowed to vote in future MEEPs? Note that there are more than two options for this question:
  • "Yes1" indicates a preference for banning all moderators from voting on referendums.
  • "Yes2" indicates a preference for banning the chief and deputy moderators from voting on referendums.
  • "Yes3" indicates a preference for limiting the chief and deputy from voting, save for breaking stalemates.
  • "No" indicates opposition to this refinement.
3. Are you for or against votes being reported on (and possibly removed) after the voting period is finished? Note that there are more than two options for this question:
  • "Yes1" indicates a preference for votes being reported on (and possibly removed) regardless of whether or not the ratings are changed.
  • "Yes2" indicates a preference for votes being reported on (and possibly removed) only if ratings will be changed to reflect vote changes.
  • "No" indicates opposition to this refinement.
4. Are you for or against the implementation of a polling section in DART?
  • "Yes" indicates a preference for the implementation of a polling section in DART.
  • "No" indicates opposition to the implementation of a polling section in DART.
5. Are you for or against the implementation of advertisements on DART? Note that there are more than two options for this question:
  • "Yes1" indicates a preference for the implementation of pop-up ads, video ads, static banners, and text ads (text ads are like with sponsored links on Google).
  • "Yes2" indicates a preference for the implementation of video ads, static banners, and text ads.
  • "Yes3" indicates a preference for the implementation of static banners and text ads.
  • "Yes4" indicates a preference for the implementation of text ads only.
  • "No" indicates opposition to the implementation of advertisements on DART.
Voting:
This poll will use the same voting system as the previous MEEP.

A vote could look like this:
  1. Yes,
  2. Yes1, (the 1 signifying a preference for variant 1)
  3. Yes.
Like this (the missing 2, counts it as abstaining that question):
1. No, each change should be an individual question
3. Yes, we shouldn't even have voting rules.

Or even like this (a vote against 3, but abstaining from the others):
Wrong direction for voting, so no.

On June 2, 2020, the President of the United States did something that, if it had occurred at most other points in US history, would be widely known and condemned. If Obama or any other Democrat president had done what Trump did that day, the entire nation would be calling for his impeachment. What Trump did is not only reprehensible but downright unconstitutional. What he did that day transcends partisan politics in its sheer magnitude, and should make even the most diehard conservative hold Trump in the utmost contempt. I am of course referring to what happened at Lafayette Park in DC.

Given the proximity to the White House, that particular place has been a popular place to hold protests for decades, if not centuries. Almost every day, one could find some protest or another taking place there, with some people even deciding to pitch their tents in the park to protest. These types of public demonstrations are expressly protected in Section A of the First Amendment of the Constitution, and the continuation of a well-functioning democracy is contingent on the preservation of the fundamental rights to hold them. Nothing, not even the president’s word, is above the fundamental rights of all Americans written into the constitution.

As I am sure all of you are well aware, there has been a wave of protests occurring across the US (and elsewhere) during these past few weeks against the actions of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd and who now faces second-degree murder charges. While it is true that some have been violent and resulted in looting, vandalism, and wanton destruction, there are many others (such as the one at Lafayette Square) that were peaceful. On the day in question, protesters held a nonviolent demonstration in the park. At the same time, Trump was delivering his “Law and Order” speech in front of the White House, quite fitting for what was about to do next.

At 6:35 PM, the President gave the order to round all of the protestors up and clear them out of the park. It is important to note that the DC curfew was at 7 PM, thus the protesters had every right to be there. According to reports, little to no warning was given to protesters ahead of time. The federal guards, secret service police, and law enforcement officers dispatched to disperse the protesters also received authorization/orders to hit them with tear gas, rubber bullets, and in some cases riot shields and batons. Even if you believe the protesters shouldn't have been there, nothing justified this type of action. Law-abiding citizens, exercising their First Amendment right to peaceful assembly, were subject to draconian policing tactics designed to counter violent riots, and which in this context would only serve to further incite violence. No one was spared from this brutal treatment – not bystanders, not the media, not anyone else.

So, what was the reason for President Trump to order the expulsion of these peaceful protesters who were exercising their constitutional right to protest? It wasn’t to protect the public. Instead, it was so that he could clear the path for him to walk directly out the front door of the White House, through Lafayette Park, and have a photo-op of him holding a bible in front of a church across the street. According to reports, the clearing of the park was coordinated so that Trump could end his speech in the rose garden and head directly to the church. The most ironic part of this is the fact that the president stayed outside for the photoshoot past the curfew, despite him making it illegal for anyone else to do the same. Then, to add religious insult to injury, the president also ordered that the priests of the church be expelled from the area so that he could stand there. When Trump got to the church, he turned his back on it. He didn’t pray and he didn’t reflect on his actions. All he did was take out a bible and make various poses for the camera. And the worst part was that instead of being used to show support for anything, the photos were used for a video montage set to music – a campaign stunt – the next day.

Nothing Trump did that day exemplified what a President is supposed to uphold, nor was any of it about reconciliation, progress, repair, or even amelioration or de-escalation of the situation. The sole purpose of what Trump did was to inflame, to “trigger the libs” while beating the crap out of innocent civilians exercising their right to protest. The actions of Trump on that day were those that one would expect to see from the tin-pot dictator of a Banana Republic, not the leader of the free world.

This isn’t a bipartisan issue. This is an affront to the constitution, and to democracy itself. For an issue that should be on the front and center of every news cover, why has the response been so lacking? Why haven’t we heard a peep from the gun-toting 2nd Amendment activists who weeks ago, claimed to be fighting for their constitutional rights against tyranny? Why has the right-wing media been so silent on this, despite constantly rallying against the so-called Deep State’s abuses of power? Where were all of the Republicans who claim to care about law and order, when the actions that Trump ordered were anything but lawful? If you care about a rule of law that applies to everyone, then you ought to be appalled and outraged at what happened on June 2nd at Lafayette Park.

According to the bible, God is omniscient:
Great is our Lord and abundant in strength;
His understanding is infinite. (Psalm 147:5)
This is a core tenet of the Judeo-Christian faith.

Also according to the bible, you can repent and be forgiven:
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
This means that you can choose to repent and be baptized. This means that you are ultimately a free being, and have the autonomy to choose your path (in this case, to repent and go to heaven, or to not repent and go to hell). This is also a core tenet of the Judeo-Christian faith. If this wasn't the case, then your entire future (including whether you go to heaven or hell) would already be determined for you, and there would be no choice whatsoever in that regard, as it would have already been made for you.

The final piece of this dilemma is the law of identity, the basic law of logic that states that A=A. That is, that A cannot be something that is not A.

With these three pieces, we can now formulate the dilemma.

P1: A=A. A =/= not A.
P2: Free will stipulates that if there are two or more outcomes for a being to choose, then each outcome has a non-zero probability of happening.
P3: God is never wrong.
P4: God's omniscience means that He knows everything, including all future events. If He already knows the outcome, and He is never wrong, then the probability for that outcome is 1, and the probability for every other outcome is zero.
P5: It can't be the case that an outcome has both a zero and a non-zero chance of happening. (from P1)
C1: Therefore, free will and God's omniscience are incompatible.

Unless you can find a logical error in this syllogism, you must make the choice between free will and God's omniscience. Neither choice bodes well for Christianity or Judaism (or any other religion that holds both of these to be true).

If free will is the case, then God is not omniscient, which goes against the core tenet of God's omniscience, as described in Psalm 147:5 (and verses like it).

If God's omniscience is the case, then there is no free will, which goes against the core tenet of repentance and man's free choice to repent, as described in Acts 2:38 (and verses like it).

I invite anyone to take a shot at this.

Hey DART!

I'm planning to make an un-official MEEP/opinion poll to gather the community's stance on various questions that I have thought of and/or seen floating around in the forums. I am hoping that it will be posted sometime next week.

Even though this is a non-binding un-official MEEP, it is sanctioned by the mods and the results could influence moderation policies and the implementation of future site features.

In this thread, I will be previewing some of the questions to be voted on and discussed, as well as inviting all of you to suggest additional questions and refinements. Please note that there is no guarantee of any of the community-raised questions making it in.

Below are questions s I already intend to include:
1. Do you agree or disagree with the following clause in the new COC:
Removal of the harassing the moderators is ok rule (don’t worry, we’ll still have thick skin).
2. Are you for or against mods being allowed to vote in future MEEPs? Note that there are multiple options for this question:
  • "Yes1" indicates a preference for banning all moderators from voting on referendums.
  • "Yes2" indicates a preference for banning the chief and deputy moderators from voting on referendums.
  • "Yes3" indicates a preference for limiting the chief and deputy from voting, save for breaking stalemates.
  • "No" indicates opposition to this refinement.
3. Are you for or against votes being reported on (and possibly removed) after the voting period is finished?
4. Are you for or against the implementation of a DDO-esque polling section in DART?

Again, feel free to make any suggestions!

I'm back. (Although I guess everyone has forgotten who I am by now... oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Before I explain everything, I gotta say, I miss you guys. How's life during *COUGH* *COUGH* coronavirus? Mine's is... well, it's pretty good (gives me an excuse to stay indoors all day lol). If you're wondering where I've been for the last few months (I hope at least some people have been...), in short, I took some time off for personal reasons.

To be more specific, in January (I think), my wifi went down for around a week (it didn't go down, but it was slow to the point of not being able to load anything). This period allowed me to self-reflect, as in the days prior, I had a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right in my life (I don't know what exactly, but it might have had to do with the fact that I tended to procrastinate on many things, became generally averse to talking to other people IRL, and was somewhat overwhelmed by various academic and social pressures even before my internet went down). So I distanced myself from this site for a few months, during which I managed to get my life back in shape through external help and internal motivation, and even managed to get accepted into UofT (which I am really proud of, and surprised at the same time). I've also learned to manage my time better and space my activities throughout the day appropriately, though it might still be a while before I seriously debate again (in hindsight, starting multiple debates through a busy schedule was not the wisest decision I made lol). Also, I know that I probably blew my one and only chance to become a mod, but oh well, I'm back on this site and hope to be active again!

PS: I wonder how many conspiracy theories popped up around my disappearance lol, I hope RM's still rockin' it ;)

On a cold, chilly Christmas night, a night where the homes were usually lit with festive cheer but now lay dormant, Drafterman wandered around the town square, waving a butcher’s knife around in self-defense, paranoid as a result of the events that took place over the past three days.

“COME AT ME!!!” He yelled, “I FEAR NOTHING!!!”

Suddenly, a shadowy figure emerged out of the dark alleyway behind drafter. As Drafter turned around, the figure tackled him to the ground, knocking the knife out of his hand. The figure, revealing himself to be Virtuoso, then grabbed a handkerchief laced with chloroform and smothered Drafter with it. Despite fighting valiantly, he grew ever more sleepy with every passing second, eventually succumbing to the chloroform.
When Drafter woke up the next day, he found himself neck-deep in hard-packed snow. He tried moving his arms and legs, but found that they were completely stuck. All around him were signs of mayhem. Bits of frozen, bloody flesh still lay scattered throughout the terrain. The burnt-out crisp of Lunatic’s pyre sat there, behind the eternally t-posing figure of Speedrace’s crucifix, which seemed to be staring right into Drafter’s eyes. It was high noon, and the church bells were silent. Drafter took it all in, knowing that this would probably be the last thing he ever sees. It was almost tranquil… in a deluded way.

**THONK**

Drafter winced at the pain he felt in the back of his head. Then, he heard the crunching of snow behind him. As it got louder and louder, the chuckling of Virtuoso could be heard. Then, he came into view of Drafter, proudly squatting in front of him with the biggest grin on his face.

“Welp, it was nice knowing you ;)” Virt said, patting Drafter’s head.

“So you did all of this?” Drafter asked

“Well… I did receive assistance from the Grey martyr (bless his soul), but yes, I did plan all of this.” Virt responded.

“You BASTARD!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO ANY OF THIS!?”

“I’m on a mission… but also for my own amusement.”

“YOU MADE US KILL SUPA AND WATER!!!”

“Well… no. They brought it upon themselves, really, and you helped in that respect.”

“YOU MOTHERF*****!!!”
“It doesn’t even matter anymore. You can swear all you want in heaven.”

“YOU’LL ALWAYS BE ON SANTA’S NAUGHTY LIST!!!”

“Do you think I care? Lol”

Virtuoso then sat on top of Drafter’s head, and farted.

“>.<” Drafter responded.

“You know, my superiors always said that I needed to improve my aim. What better time to do it than now.” He then took a snowball, compacted it to the point of it being solid, and placed it in front of Drafter’s face, right under his nose. Drafter, showing discomfort, tried to get the freezing cold snowball away from his face, but to no avail.

“Hehe.” Virtuoso laughed, “this is the least uncomfortable thing you’ll be dealing with today.”

Drafter was noticeably shivering at this point, both from the cold and from anger.

“With that out of the way,” Virt said, “lets get onto it!”

All Drafter could do was stare at Virt coldly while Virt proceeded to make many, many hard-as-ice snowballs. Virtuoso took his sweet, sweet time, and by the time he finished making snowballs, the sun was setting.

At this point, Drafter had already zoned out to a better place. Recalling memories from better times, Drafter had tears rolling down his eyes, accumulating in a frozen mass on the bottom of his neck.

“HEY! THINK FAST!” Virtuoso said before slinging an iceball towards Drafter’s head.

“OW!!!” Drafter responded. An egg-sized lump formed where the iceball struck.

“Get used to this Drafter, cuz its the last thing you’ll ever feel.” Virtuoso said as he slung another iceball, which elicited another scream of agony from Drafter.

Virtuoso threw another one, and then another one… another one… another one… and each time, Drafter’s screams got quieter and quieter, until it turned into mere moans and groans, and then nothing at all. By the time Virt went through all of his iceballs, Drafter’s head was a bloody mess, with his skull smashed in.

“Welp, my job here is done ;)” Virt said, as he wandered into the sunset, whistling to the tune of “Silent Night”.

On Christmas Day, the townsfolk woke up, not to the sight of presents under the tree (Santa noped right out of town after he saw what happened last night), but to a gift that no one ever wished for, nor wanted: Speedrace’s corpse doing an eternal T-pose on a crucifix with a bullet hole, smack dab in the middle of his forehead. The town was utterly silent, not just because of the horrid sight, but also because there were only 3 people left.

I apologize for the delay, as I had an unexpected issue to deal with IRL. Without further delay, let's move onto DP2.

As the sun rises, and the townspeople awaken to the cries of the roosters, a horrid sight afflicts them. To the town’s dismay, a burnt-out pyre with the charred skeletal remains of a corpse bounded with scorched rope occupies the center of the town square. As the townspeople look around, they notice that Lunatic was absent. Eventually it dawned upon town that Lunatic had been burned at the stake. Outraged at this horrendous act, the townsfolk sought to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, no one knew who had committed this act.

Newton's Flaming Laser Sword (yes this is a real thing) is a philosophical razor coined by Australian mathematician Mike Alder in 2004, which states that:
what cannot be settled by experiment is not worth debating.
Since God exists outside of the observable universe, there would be no way to observe God. There would also be no experiment we could do to prove or falsify God's existence, since God exists independently of the universe. Given this, according to NFLS, God's existence is not worth debating. Also, since there is no experiment to prove or disprove God, the notion of his existence is unfalsifiable, and therefore unscientific.

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

To those who wronged me, fuck you. To those I wronged, fuck you too because you must have been a really big asshole to deserve such treatment.

The other voice in my head: Dude, it’s supposed to be a sombre departing speech where you apologize for past wrongdoings and they will give you 25+ likes in return wholeheartedly support you on your journey in life. At this rate, you’ll actually be gone from the site er- I mean reprimanded by the mods.

Me: Ok, FIIIIIIINE. I’ll actually make this one good. I want the Friend of the I MEAN I WANT TO LEAVE DEBATEART.ORG ON A POSITIVE NOTE OH YEAH OF COURSE I DO IT’S NOT LIKE I WOULD FAKE MY DEPARTURE FOR 33 LIKES, UNLIKE A CERTAIN *COUGH* RAT *COUGH**COUGH* NOT MENTIONING ANY NAMES HERE

Anyways, where was I again? Oh yeah.

For those I didn't wrong but you still detest me, I couldn't care less. Like, I know that this looks copy-pasted from RM’s “departure”, but it’s not. Like, I actually don’t care about what you say to me, RationalMadman I MEAN OTHER PEOPLE WHO I SHALL NOT DISCLOSE.

For those who do not detest me, I want you to understand that my quitting of this website is to do with seeking a more private life. By private, I mean that I hate talking to other human beings and instead find solace in the comfort that RedTube brings to me. I am becoming an antisocial pornoholic at first glance, but a happier, more self-fulfilled person in the long run.

I also decided not to do the moon landing debate. This is not because I am a lazy procrastinator who goes on RedTube all day (AND I’M NOT), but because I found the TRUTH. You see, I moved to Antarctica years ago with my family because they were penguin hunters. Being raised in a family of penguin hunters, my brother and I were trained from a young age how to hunt penguins. On one fateful expedition that happened yesterday, my brother and I were hunting this golden penguin who was very elusive. My brother readied his net and charged at the penguin, but at the last second, the penguin pulled off a SIKE and broke my brother’s ankles. With his ankles broken, my brother hopelessly tumbled off the edge of the Earth. At that moment, I had an epiphany. I finally realized that RM was right all along and that he was in fact trying to save my brother. I will never forgive myself for this. I now understand that NASA was conspiring with the penguins to kill my brother by brainwashing the vast majority of the people on the flat Earth to believe that the Earth is round so that no one would believe my story. I am also now aware that the Moon is a hologram projected onto the sky by NASA + Illuminati to summon werewolves at night to silence all those who oppose them. Believe the Earth is round, that we landed on the moon, that everything is fine or that everything is not. Make your own mind up, but remember, disagree with NASA and you will end up as werewolf food.

I genuinely am sorry for what a cunt I've been even just yesterday on the website. I mean seriously, I left Wylted and the others hanging in DP1 of the Pizza Mafia. WHAT A CUNT MOVE!!! I may end up seeking professional help but I doubt it, considering that I once made a psychotherapist go so insane that he ended up in a mental asylum. This is not me denouncing debating itself as a bad thing but I do think once you get too into it, it can begin to alter you as a person and make you have an unstoppable urge to  write satirical spinoffs of someone else’s VERY GENUINE parting speeches.

I am not saying that I regret all my rivalries to be clear. In fact, the opposite is true. I love RM (no ho-... oh wait I can’t say that? Ok then). I'm saying I should have been empathetic to my enemies and their victims instead of deciding that my role was as a one-time Grammar Nazi who pointed out RM’s obvious spelling error (aka “bullying”). I am a healer and lover, that was my role all along but what I've been doing in life so far is anything but that. All I’ve done is torment others on the forums with my god awful jokes.

I hope you all genuinely forget about me over time but given how much controversy I expect this thread to generate, I'm sure it will take a few months to fully eradicate my relevance to the site as the dude who really clearly wasn't actually meant to be that great of a debater but I hope eventually you all fully forgive, forget and move on with your lives here and IRL never thinking twice about me. But before you do that, DON’T FORGET TO SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON, HIT SUBSCRIBE, AND RING THAT NOTIFICATION BELL FOR MORE QUALITY CONTENT!!!

Just curious as to how high I can set the character limit in a debate. I'm planning to create a large-scale debate on a topic that would require many characters, and I want to know what the maximum is. Thanks!

So this is how it works. You post F, and then like every F post before yours. The more likes the F chain is, the happier RM's spirit will be ;)

Since DDO has a section where people can vote on specific issues, I think that DART should have one as well. It would allow people to vote on subject matter itself, without the influence of the debaters' performance.
