What kind of mother would go joyously bounding off in jubilation and excitement to tell her cousin the good news that she was going to have a baby from god that was going to be hunted down, betrayed and arrested and put on trial  and then beaten senseless and then nailed to a cross to die an agonising death?

And what kind of Mother would lose her holy god- given charge for four whole days and didn't even notice him missing at all for the first  whole day?

The New Testament tells us that in the time of his ministry Jesus is said to have raised only three people from the "dead".  The child mortality rate must have been high in 1st century Palestine so why only three?

If we are to take the gospels in order as presented in the New Testament, the first recorded instance come in the gospel of Mark 5:35-43 NIV

In this version  a Pharisee named Jairus in Galilee a synagogue leader's daughter has "died" and said to be only 12 years old. Jesus is said to have simply  took her hand , told her to "get up" and she was alive again.

In Luke's gospel it is a Galilean widow  living in Nain. Her son that was ready for burial. Jesus simply told  him to "get up" too and he was alive again. Luke 7:11-15.

Then in John's gospel we are told of Lazarus of Bethany in Galilee and a friend of Jesus had died. He was simply told by Jesus to "come out" of his tomb after being "dead" for 4 days. John 11:1-44

So what was so special (if anything) about these three particular "corpses" that they were important  to be raised from the"dead"?

Matthew 10:2

2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Was it a matter of days, weeks or a year?
The only thing we can be certain of is that at least 5 were gathered within 2 days.

The Torah (/ˈtɔːrə, ˈtoʊrə/; Biblical Hebrew: תּוֹרָה‎ Tōrā, "Instruction", "Teaching" or "Law") is the compilation of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, namely the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

These 5 books are believed to contain all the rules, regulations, laws and statutes of god. So why is it that these laws are considered to be " shit" by  some authors of the New Testament ?

I would be grateful for any answers.

Forgery of the Gospel of Mark? This controversy has been covered many times over the years.

It is now widely accepted that Mark’s contribution to the four gospels has been added to and rewritten in part if not totally embellished. Synoptic simply means; generally to speak as one. The synoptics relate to Matthew Mark and Luke yet Mark’s gospel omits stories the other so called synoptic gospels mention.
There is no immaculate conception, no virgin birth, no husband Joseph and astonishingly there is no resurrection!
So let us concentrate on just this one aspect that the whole of Christianity is founded on; the promise of the resurrection.

When we read Mark’s gospel today there is in most bibles the familiar ending of Jesus rising from the dead and appearing to his disciples  Mark16:9-20

But it is accepted that the original ending to Mark has no resurrection and it simply ends with the women finding the tomb empty and running away in fear and telling no one and that, as they say is that! Mark16:8

Indeed some bibles still have this abrupt ending at Mark16:8 but those that do have the extended embellished addition will notice that it is usually accompanied the with notes admitting that verses from Mark16:9-20 were added at a much later time and “do not appear in the original manuscript”.

Is this then also why in the bible we won’t read about Jesus the “raising” his great friend Lazarus in either Matthew Mark, Luke but only in John?
I have read that according to Jewish law that the soul leaves the body after three days and returns to god? But in this story Jesus hangs around down by the river for four days before returning to Bethany to call the "stinking"  Lazarus back to the land of the living.

When these gospels are read even summarily it is not difficult to notice that Matthew is always either taking away or embellishing on the other authors.
A good example can be read here:

The daughter is only “dying” in Mark but stone cold “dead” in Matthew.

The not so “dead” only dying daughter.

Mark 5:23He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”

Matthew 9:18
While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Note those word again “a certain” ruler.

A women touches Jesus’ cloak

Mark 5:29-31 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked,“Who touched my clothes?”
“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask,‘Who touched me?’”

Matthew 9:20-22 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Yes, even his disciples had to question that blinder. Interesting it is that Jesus didn’t know in this instance who had touched him, but can actually read minds in other parts of the bible.

And did you know, that Jesus gave his disciples the power to cast out demons? Matthew 10:1 & Mark 3:15
But by biblical accounts, not all demons!??
Matthew 17:19-20 & Mark 9:29

Yet we are told that the bible is easily understandable, unambiguous#55 and that the gospel authors are crystal clear on what they are conveying..#62
It is not until one realises that “dead” does not mean “dead” and that “demon or devil” does not mean possessed by an evil spirit that one can start to begin to realise what is going on in these ambiguous half stories that make up the gospels.

Has anyone ever considered the New Testament story of the so called " certain false witnesses"?

After his arrest Jesus , it is written, was taken first to the home of Annas where he was slapped around and spat on then turned over to someone in a higher authority, Caiaphas.   But they had a problem. Under Mosaic law and the book of Deuteronomy, they had to have two witnesses to whatever the crime it was Jesus is alleged to have committed.

   According to Mark;
the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none”, Mark 15:55-56. KJV.

Then immediately, this happens:

Suddenly they find two “false” witnesses, who are willing to come forward and testify with stories that did tally;
“ And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands”. Mark14:57-58.KJV

Among the many other questions that the story of Jesus' arrest and trial raises, one has to ask,  why are these "certain" star witnesses never directly named?

"I was taught to hate Salman Rushdie at my Islamic school in the US, 8 miles away from Hadi Matar’s home"

"I attended a private Islamic school inside the US for six years. Salman Rushdie was universally reviled in my classes. One Islamic Studies instructor in particular spoke about him regularly. Rushdie was considered an “apostate” by some since he was born into a Muslim family yet didn’t practice the religion. He was hated by others for suggesting — even in a fictional piece of work — that the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings be upon him) message wasn’t the absolute, infallible message of a one true God. If you don’t believe that, then you aren’t Muslim, end of discussion: that’s what we were taught. And, according to many rulings from Islamic governments, apostates should be killed.

How is it that the USA, the land of the free allows this kind of teaching in schools that shouldn't even exist in the western world?  We have had these vile Islamic madrassa's here in the UK for many years now and it is common knowledge to everyone but our government that children as young as 5 are beaten senseless into hating the west and the none believer.

As is well known the author of the novel Satanic Verses Salman Rushdie  had a Fatwa (price) put on his head back in 1998 for committing the crime of Blasphemy. The western world was outraged then.

Now it appears that the world wide media seem absolutely oblivious why Rushdie would be attacked by a Muslim  from New Jersey USA and are still looking for a motive behind the resent attack on the author.

I have to bring up this most recent talk show of Bill Maher.
Listen here to what Maher has to say about Islam and more relevant, listen to what one of his guest Piers Morgan has to say in response to Maher's opening comments.

..... will keep you spellbound.

1 If you were accused of being a witch a few centuries ago you could expect to be persecuted, tortured, and burned at the stake. Heresy and black magic were simply not tolerated. But many of those who met a fiery end were totally innocent and died purely because of their religious beliefs.

2 According to science and history, there's no such thing as a witch. Those hapless souls accused of witchcraft and who ended up being burned at the stake had no ties whatsoever to Paganism, dark practices, or heresy. In fact, the only thing these witches, warlocks, and heretics were guilty of was that they weren't Protestant or Catholic.

3 Witch hysteria took off in the mid-1400s and continued until the beginning of the 18th century. Many innocent people were burned at the stake just for looking different or behaving oddly. The checklist for a suspected witch included innocuous things like having a wart, a hairy lip, a squint, or a birthmark. [and a big giant hooter that pokes in where it has no reason to].

4 Those unfortunate enough to possess the so-called characteristics of a witch were instantly condemned to a fiery and painful end, usually in full public view. It is estimated that 40,000 to 50,000 people were killed like this during this period in history.

5  However, some historians suggest this figure could be as high as 200,000 as many of the accused were torched away from the public arena.

There are 25 more reasons in the link for those that may be interested and  can be bothered to turn the page... I can't.

Muslims Protest ‘Provocative’ Film Depicting Mohammed’s Daughter
From early reading about this story it appears that the Sunni's and Sh'ite are in disagreement.

The Lady of Heaven is a 2021 British epic historical drama film directed by Eli King in his directorial debut and written by the Twelver Shia Muslim Sheikh Yasser Al-Habib, the spiritual leader of The Mahdi Servants Union. Produced by Enlightened Kingdom, the film bills itself as the first movie on the life of the historical figure, Fatimah, during and after the era of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In addition to 7th century Islamic history from the Twelver Shia perspective, the film links Islamic State in the 21st century and the origins of Islamic terrorism with historical figures revered in Sunni Islam.

Did the theatres showing this movie cave in?  If they haven't yet, it is my guess  they most certainly will eventually.

the beliefs and some  comments in this thread
#1 It's recorded in Matthew 10:34 that Jesus says:"Do not suppose I have come to bring peace to the  earth.  I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter in law against her mother in law a man's enemies will be the members of his own household."

Jesus, in my view[,………………………………...]
I think part of the answer lies in the type of sword Jesus is talking about. Obviously it is a metaphorical sword, but the Greek word here is a dagger. Not a great big swashbuckling broad sword, but a short dagger. #34

I don’t agree. There is absolutely nothing in the New Testament BIBLE that shows anything contrary to what Matthew 10:34 actually states and means. And, there are many other verses that clearly show that Jesus ‘ appearance in Palestine as a king returned to claim his throne and title would create conflict/war with Rome, it was unavoidable, which in turn would create division of opinions within the family. These difference of opinions would, as Jesus himself admits, set “'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter in law against her mother in law a man's enemies will be the members of his own household."
You see, there is no doubt that the reason for this is simple. Generations of Jews at the time had been Hellenised after centuries of influence under the Greek rule and their gods (weren’t even the gospels recorded in Greek?). So here we had an older generation still aligned to or hadn’t forgotten their Old Testament god Yahweh while the younger generations were not; “the children of Israel had gone astray”..
The BIBLE clearly tells us that Jesus’ “mission” was to unite those Jews that had been “lost” Matthew 15:24 under one god and one rule.

In short Jesus was building an army. And I believe there is evidence in the New Testament that does go some way in proving this. And, as with all ends of conflict, there would be the peace under one god and one rule and Jesus believed himself to be the man to bring this peace about. This is a recurring pattern throughout the whole of the BIBLE….. if not the whole of history. Many Jews were happy with the situation under Greek rule as were many happy under Babylonian rule so much so many decided to remain in Babylon and many were full and active members of Babylonian society. After some 70+ years many Jews prospered. It is easy to imagine that many second and third generation Jewish Babylonians had no interest in leaving. As were many happy with the status quo under Roman rule and didn’t want any self proclaimed pretender king upsetting it:

John 11:48
If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”

Luke 22:36King James Version
Then said he [Jesus] unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Indeed.

Just when you thought Nicola (wee cranky) Sturgeon  First Minister of Scotland couldn't get more stupid and creations, she offers this to Witches from days of yore.

"Today on International Women's Day, as first minister on behalf of the Scottish government, I am choosing to acknowledge that egregious historic injustice and extend a formal posthumous apology to all of those accused, convicted, vilified or executed under the Witchcraft Act of 1563."

So it appears that there aren't  more pressing and immediate problems for a first minister of a country to be concerned about when  the last Witch murdered in that part of Britain was over some 350 years ago.

Will it now follow that the ancestors of Scottish Witches murdered by renown  witch-pricker John Kincaid be looking for reparations from Kincaid's descendants?

Is the Bible written in English worth the paper it is written on? I personally wouldn’t want to see this ancient work destroyed.

I think it is well known of me by now that on the surface I find the Bible (New Testament in particular) to be a book of contradictory, ambiguous, anomalous, vague, enigmatic and problematic half stories surrounding a man that believed or was led to believe he was a rightful king and heir to the throne of Jerusalem and the power struggle that he had to endure in the times of ancient Palestine under Roman occupation and between the many other factions and sects that existed at the time. And not to be taken literally at all times. i.e. a man didn’t rises from a physical death to be alive again after being physically dead for three days.

Others think to the contrary. For instance, there are those that I have met that believe the Bible to be clear and concise in its presentation and self evidently true and without any ambiguity whatsoever in the way it has come down to us. Until of course they are posed a few simple questions which usually arise not just frequently from the Bible but just as frequent from their own commentary, and when pressed on such it appears that these very same people will resort to the default that one must understand Greek or Hebrew to even begin to understand a Bible that is written in English! But by saying so they do not seem to understand that they have, in just a few words, rendered the Bible written in English redundant, pointless and unreliable as any kind of “witness” source to the life and times of the Christ.

So is there at all any point to reading, never mind studying the Bible written in English? A Bible that those who have said that is clear and concise but suddenly insist that the Bible is fathomable and understandable only when one is tutored, trained and learned in the ancient Greek or Hebrew languages?

" a tradition that has gone on for at least 5000 years"!  This would make their gods old, very old. Ancient in fact.

Thousands of people including Pagans, Druids and Witches, gathered at Stonehenge in England's county of Wiltshire, Tuesday, to attend the annual Winter Solstice ceremony, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year. Hundreds of Druids attended the Winter Solstice ceremony, many of them in traditional costume, while performing ceremonies with music and dances around the prehistoric monument, with many participants touching the ancient stones for its 'healing energy.'

Meet King Arthur Pendragon

Isn't it nice that they can continue this ancient religious practice without the fear of persecution by Christians ?

Does it give them strength that they believe they otherwise wouldn't have?

Is it  a social support structure that they cannot find elsewhere?

Not being an American I obviously do not know US law. But I am reasonably sure that had this racist hoax happened here in the UK there maybe further charges, i.e. behaviour likely to cause a riot/public disturbance or  behaviour likely to incite an affray.

And lets not forget this was a racist hoax against white people, i.e. a hate crime .

Can a bible story really get more silly?

The  Philistines had captured the Ark from the Israelites and it had been in their possession some months and had caused al kinds of damage to the local citizenry; they simply didn't know how it worked or how to use it? So decided it must be returned.

1 Samuel
And the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the Lord? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.
3 And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
4 Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
5 Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.   King James Version (KJV)

God's failure to learn from his own mistakes was one thing but to keep from his mother the cruel and violent demise and failure of her son's mission on earth was nothing short of out-right cruelty.  It does beg the question had god chosen the right "messiah"?

God's promise to Mary mother  "blessed among woman" of Jesus seems clear enough on the surface when we read:

Luke 1:30-38
"Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

So although the "Blessed among women" Mary " is a bit perplexed by it all she joyfully rushes off to tell her cousin Elizabeth the "good news".
Nice . 🙂
But apart from the fact the bold underlined above failed to come to fruition it raises the question why didn't god inform the "blessed among women" that her son would have to endure such a violent torturous scourging and be nailed to a cross to suffer an agonising death in front of her own eyes?

John 19:25

"Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene". (was every woman called Mary in those days?)

And is it not the Christian belief that the death of Jesus the "messiah" was foretold and prophesised about in the Old Testament? If this was certainly the case, how come Mary Jesus' mother didn't know the fate of her son sent from god?

The Sermon on the Mount is all about receiving one's reward for keeping all of Jesus' commands, yet doesn't this fly in the face of what else is commanded in the scriptures about doing and giving while expecting nothing in return?

And as I mentioned recently, to be  offering compensation for these things, rather than teaching that true morality only takes place when you want to do what you are doing, is educationally and developmentally debilitating.

The sermon on the mount on the other hand does not teach that we should do good things simply because it is the right thing to do.

Jesus offers these rewards:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus , it has been agreed by some Christians  that Jesus resurrected as flesh and blood man.

So a recent question I have posed is- how did Jesus enter the closed and locked room?

"On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”John 20:19 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+20%3A19-20&version=NIV

I have heard a few reasons as to why god is said to have become flesh and not once have I been able to understand why this "incarnation" had to happen and even why it  should  be believed.

The common shout from Christians is that god,  became flesh to understand "human suffering"  . But this simply cannot be in any way true ...unless we ignore the awkward fact that God as god, understood human suffering perfectly well?  And we know this because THE BIBLE says so.

 So let us first blow the "human suffering" argument out of the water by highlighting what god himself has to say on the matter while he is still god;

Exodus 3:7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering".

So we see right away, that god didn't need to go to all the trouble of sending anyone in any shape or form and that he could clearly see (and we have to assume understand) that god was well up to speed on the matter.

Another of the reasons given for this "incarnation" is that  god as Jesus was sent to forgive our sins. Why?  And again this shite can also be blown out of the water by THE BIBLE!

Isaiah 45:21-22. God as god says;  “Turn to me and be saved,  all you ends of the earth;  for I am God, and there is no other".

Jonah 3:5-10. " When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened".

So we can clearly read,  god as god on both these occasions was forgiving sins before he is believed to have "incarnated" as Jesus on earth. And as a point of fact, Jesus as Jesus was also forgiving sins before he was crucified so that blows the "crucified for our sins" clean out of the water too.

So can a single one of the Christian fold here give a valid and factual reason why god had to "incarnate" as a human being here on earth.

There are few passages from John gospel only indicating that Jesus is god.

The other gospel  refer to him as being  only a "son of god" which is nothing more than a title of the times, and today as a matter of fact.  Indeed, the whole nation of Israel were said by god to be his own and special children.   Also Jesus is clearly called   the "son of man".  So who is making Jesus out to be a god?

Why are the other gospels silent on the matter of Jesus being a god? And doesn't all of Christianity rest on this ambiguous claim.

..... the desperate and needy theist!

Woman prays for her dead sister and she comes back with a revelation, saying  ` Jesus is in love with me`.
It is such as shame, but as usual this miraculous revelation was revealed and  told by a practicing Christian on the Christian Broadcasting Network, which to my mind contradicts the whole point of the lost sheep.

With Adam and Eve the failure is that they disobeyed god. But god created these pair. I didn’t. Yet I am told I will suffer in hell for three reasons.

(1) I apparently have inherited their sin.

(2) I don’t believe Jesus was god;

(3)It is doubtful that even Jesus believed himself to be a god either?  So then his master plan for the creation of man was a complete failure.

Then mankind become so corrupt by his actions and multiple sinful ways that he sent a flood to wipe them from the face of the earth. Another fail.

He confuse human language after the destruction of Nimrod and the Tower of Babel incident so that they could not effectively communicate with each other. Another failure.

Matthew 13: 40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mathew 13 comes well after these previous disasters sent onto the shoulders of mankind by god,  and it appears that god still hadn't corrected a single one of his own previous errors, either!?

Why so many failures if god is said, and seen to be by millions, to be perfect? How many goes does he have to have before getting it right, before we are sent to the flames to face much gnashing of teeth in perpetuity?

Matthew 17:12-13
"But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”  Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist".
John the Baptist denies  this claim made on his behalf:

John 1:21
They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

We take this to mean that Jesus brings peace to the world.  But then we read:

Luke 12:51
Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

Matthews gospel presses the point further, when we read:

Matthew 10:34-36
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.  For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
   a daughter against her mother,
   a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’

Matthew 26:62-64
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”.
Caiaphas died.

Matthew 12:40
" For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".
From this instance, we are to assume that Jesus was talking about being dead when he was placed in the tomb before rising after three days.  But Jonah wasn't dead as we are to believe Jesus was  when Jonah is said to have been swallowed by a "huge fish". Indeed Jonah was quite well and alive all the time and appears to have been quite happy during his time in the gut of this "huge fish" happily praying before being vomited out onto dry land.  Jonah 2:1-10

Does this then mean that Jesus also was not dead when he was placed in a rich man's private burial tomb by his other secret disciple , Joseph of Arimathea?

On these occasions Jesus was either alone or only there were only two present at the time?

Jesus is tested by Satan alone.
Matthew 4:1-11
Only two present

Jesus prays alone. Matthew 26:38-45

Stay here and keep watch with me.”
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

Jesus speaks with Pilate alone. John 18:33-38

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate.

Indeed Mr Pilate, what is truth?

But how did  these gospel writers  know the words spoken when they were spoken in the absence of anyone else.?

Anyone that has taken the time to read these scriptures will know that they ever hardly agree on anything at all.

But one would expect that of all the events in the life of Jesus, the crucifixion would be the one single event that they could't confuse. After all, Christianity is built upon the belief in the  crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus so how come there are so much inconsistency between these  ` eye witness accounts `   concerning such a pinnacle moment in the life of the Christ.

We have a man, nailed in one place, he is not moving around he is static; so anyone standing there simply couldn't get anything wrong about the events that occurred in the short space of time  between being  "nailed" on the cross and allegedly dying .

Looking first at what led up to this barbaric execution we have Matthew & Mark telling us that Jesus was tried AND sentenced by the Jewish priests of the Sanhedrin.
Luke says that Jesus was tried by the Sanhedrin but not sentenced by them.
Yet according to John Jesus doesn't even appear before the Sanhedrin at all!

Jesus then is is taken to his place of execution to be crucified. Or was it as Paul suggests, a gibbet? Or was it as Peter, the betrayer and denier  three times of Christ who says his master was hung on a tree?

The same confusion and inconsistency is there concerning what the Christ had to say with his very  last  ` dying `breath, too.
The writers of these scriptures who  we are expected to believe were also Jesus' close disciples cannot even remember their master and teachers dying words correctly either!
So don't be surprised to read that  Mathew & Mark have  Jesus quoting psalm 22 as his very  last breath slips and wheezes from him.

But Luke has Jesus' last dying breath as quoting psalm 31.

But for you that don't like or accept this as "gospel truth"  how about John's account that simply has Jesus saying  `I am thirsty ` and ` it is finished `.  (why would anyone give vinegar to a thirsty man?)

Then we have Joseph of Arimathea going to ask Pilate for the` body ` of Jesus so he can bury him. Pilate is shocked to learn that Jesus had died so quickly and asks for a second opinion.   But why was he surprised? Jesus had by all account had already been beaten to near death before being hung on a cross, gibbet or tree. He had also been  the speared in the side. it is also said to be an act of mercy to quicken the death of people crucified by breaking the legs. But Jesus hadn't had his legs broken.

According to Matthew Jesus had foretold that ;

"For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".

But I'm afraid that Jesus'  abacus  must have been missing a bead or two and he had got his maths a little askew. Because according to the gospels, Jesus died on Friday and ` rose` on the following Sunday and so spending only TWO nights " in the heart of the earth "/
And there is the fact that Jonah didn't or hadn't died before being "swallowed" .

Marks gospel tells us that when some of the women that Jesus used to mooch and sponge off went to the Tomb that they merely saw a man in a white robe inside.
Luke tells us that it was two men in brilliant cloths that suddenly appeared by their side out of thin air.
Matthew, one shouldn't be surprised,  as usual has to go one better adding sound effects and miraculous visuals:

"There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men".

And to think the very foundation of Christianity relies on these confusing inconsistencies.

Revelation 13

And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

(A) Who is the "dragon"?

(B) where did he get his authority to grant power to anything or anyone considering everything in the universe was created by god, and god is in charge,  so THE BIBLE says. Colossians1:16

(C) What/ who is the beast?

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him". Revelation 12:9

I see.

So are we to assume this casting out was from heaven? As told to us here>> :Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! " ?

Morning Star, now that rings a bell. Yes here we are:

Jesus  calls himself;

(Revelation 22:16)  "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."

Well that is interesting isn't it. Are there  two people with the title "morning star"?

We know from THE BIBLE that Jesus himself   claiming  to be the one of the holders of this title. Is there another?

So it appears at least that we have Jesus with the titles Dragon, Serpent,Satan, Devil and Morning Star & Son of dawn.

But the verse says "4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast:" Revelation 13

Is god in control of his own creation or not?   And why would Jesus AKA Dragon who was  " worshipped" and had the titles Dragon, Serpent,Satan, Devil and Morning Star & Son of dawn, even think it a good idea to unleash a beast that  THE BIBLE states:

5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

Why did god allow -  his son by all accounts- to give power to and  release such a great beast onto mankind and himself. What is the point and what was the purpose?

 ......it simply makes no sense!

This is a question that has niggled at  me for years but I have never once read a convincing answer  explaining why he had to die ?

By all accounts it stems back to the Garden of Eden and "original sin", but this doesn't explain why Jesus had to die for forgiveness our sins.

God- being god could just as well have said  - `ok Stephen all that was in the past and you are no more responsible for what those pair - Adam & Eve -did back at the beginning no more than you are responsible for the slave trade that I am still allowing to happen over a quarter of the globe' , - but he didn't. Why?.

Odd it is that he was making "new"  covenants every once in a while but never included a pardon for the past.

We are called to  "wash away our sins"  by John the Baptist yet when we undergo this ritual,  we , it seems,  still need a man to then suffer and die for our forgiveness for sins that have already been "washed away" in the baptism ritual.

Matthew 5:44.    But I say unto you, Love your enemies.
Matthew 5:39.    Turn the other cheek.
Luke 6:27.    Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you.
Ephesians 4:32.   Forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
Matthew 6:12-14 And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us........

..............and on and on it goes, love  and forgive, love  and forgive. .  That is until we get to Judas, where we read from the lips of Jesus god himself his dire warning of vengeance.:

"BUT WOE TO THE MAN BY WHOME THE SON OF MAN IS BETRAYED! GOOD WERE IT FOR THAT MAN IF HE HAD NEVR BEEN BORN". [ now hurry up and betray me Judas, quickly]  Mark 14:21

We can just feel and see the warm compassion and forgiveness in those words of vengeance can't we?   We can also see all those verses about Love and forgiveness go flying clean out of the window too.

Acceptable to Christians that this vengeful warning may be, and as contradictory to the fluffy nature that the scriptures attempt to portray Jesus to be, Christians  have to realise that everything that Judas did, was all preordained by god himself , if we are to believe all the prophecies were being carried out. According to Christians and the Bible,  this is what " must" happen  and Jesus "spoke plainly " about what "must"happen too. Mark 8:31-32. So why the  vengeful threat towards Judas, who didn't seem to flinch at the thought of the woe's that awaited him?

We can pick up the story at the last supper where Jesus announces in his usual cryptic fashion that he is about to be betrayed by one of those that dips his bread in the dinner bowel.   Which at that point could have been any of them considering this is  how a meal was eaten in those times, ie. everyone dipping  bread into the same bowl of what ever was on offer.

The protests of  "not me Lord"  "who is it Lord" and " I would never do that to you Lord " are aplenty .  Then-we read that Satan entering Judas and Jesus instructing Judas to go do what he is about to do  and to do it quickly.John 13:27. All preordained see. So why the vengeful threat to his betrayer?

As an aside:

Odd  isn't it that no one present asked why Judas was leaving the party at night in the dark.  There are various excuses made for Judas' sudden disappearance but as usual they simply don't stack up. It is said some thought he was going to buy supplies for the supper, ....that they had already eaten.

But  among those things that should stand out is the fact that Satan has entered Judas...... and no one recognised it!?  Do the heavily relied on Old Testament for prophecies mention anything about Satan being involved in Jesus' betrayal? NO.  The only 'prophecy' that is said to foretell of the betrayal that has been latched onto is Zechariah 11:12-13.

So here we have Judas being warned about doing what he is about to do, and on Jesus` word  he goes out into the night to do what he had been instructed to do. But he will wish he had never been born when he does so.
Why hadn't a single one of those present recognized a demon when they seen one and cast him out?   nearly 100 of his disciples had only recently been bragging about how they had cast out demons after being endowed with superpowers.Luke 10:17

And nowhere, in the whole of the scriptures will anyone read of anyone praying for love and  the forgiveness of Judas...............Or Satan, come to think of it.

Just about an hour ago the Catholic Church decreed there would be no blessing for same sex marriages.

saying :  "ruling that partnerships between homosexuals are “not ordered to the Creator’s plan.”...

While the decree said " the Christian community and its Pastors must welcome with respect and sensitivity persons with homosexual inclinations" , the unions cannot be blessed.

The ruling comes just days after the Popes return from visit to Iraq.   Pope Francis, is the first sitting pope to visit Iraq (the land of Abraham)  attended a meeting in the wilderness with the  powerful, Shiite Muslim  religious cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.  God only knows what they had  to discuss out there in the desert but I am reminded  of the pointless biblical story of god  via "the spirit" sending Jesus - his son-  into the desert to be tempted and propositioned and to come to some kind of agreement- that failed by all accounts..

Who knows what they discussed, there were only two present at the time, is all we have of the account is some made up nonsense where Jesus prevails, well he would wouldn't he?
